I can't launch Safari. When I right click on the icon, the "Application not responding" is grey and no matter what method I use to Force quit, I get no response.

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Can't launch Safari due to error message

I can't launch Safari anymore. It says it is missing some important resources and I have to reinstall Safari. I have done so, but it still does not work.
    Here is the error message;
The procedure entry point SQLite3_wal.checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll.
Can someone please help me? I have rebooted my computer, uninstalled Safari and reinstalled it without any luck.
    Thank you very much

Just so you are aware, Apple no longer suports Safari for Windows.
If you don't want to use IE, try Firefox for Windows >  Mozilla Firefox Web Browser
Much more user friendly than Safari.

  • Can't launch safari anymore.

I can't launch safari anymore. Not sure when the problem started. When I click on the icon, I get a message that says "safari.app is not supported." I installed OS X 10.5.3 today, and the problem is still there. Any suggestions?

The only thing I can remember doing in the last few months (since I last used Safari) was the regular software updates, including upgrading to Leopard from 10.3. I am pretty sure I used Safari successfully after upgrading to Leopard, but I'm not sure.
I also synched a palm device using Missing Sync in the interim (since last using Safari).
BTW, you can't imagine how frustrating it is to try to fix the problem without a usable web browser

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

  • Can't launch Safari after upgrade to 10.5

Dang Upgraded to Leopard (OS 10.5) from 10.4.11. When launching Safari, it refused to start and sent me error message "PithHelmet version xxx.xx.x hasnt been tested with Safari 3.x so it won't launch."
After that, I have disabled and removed PithHelmet from the system. No go. I have tried indtalling new version of Safari after deleting ALL Safari files: No go. New Safari won't even install. It says "System need to be 10.5.2 or later" but I DO have 10.5.4 now!
What on earth can I do?

This is a common mistake, so you should take note to avoid doing this in the future. Just because a program isn't working for you is not a good enough reason to delete it, especially when you have no idea of the ramifications of your actions, which you and many others who have done this obviously didn't. You've created a lot more work and frustration for yourself, and you solved no problem.
If you want to install Safari, you cannot use a download, so you might as well trash it now; it will not work no matter what you do.
Instead, you need to do this, exactly:
    1. Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
    2. Navigate to the Optional Installs folder and open the Optional Installs.mpkg file. This will let you install Safari 3.0.4. When that's done, quit the installer and eject the disc.
    3. Reboot your Mac and download the 10.5.4 Combo Update and install it again. When finished, use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions, then restart your Mac and try Safari.

  • Can't launch safari 4.0.3 in Leopard, 10.5.8

every time I try to launch safari, the icon bounces in the dock for almost a minute, then stops and a dialogue box pops up and says "The aplication Safari quit unexpectedly, Mac OS X and other applications are not affected" I have reinstalled safari, and repaired permissions, and made sure that all software updates have been installed

Start by performing a bit of maintenance:
Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.

By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Can't launch Safari after Software Update

I can't start Safari anymore and I don't know what to do. In short, click on the dock and no bounce. Double-click on the icon within Applications and it doesn't launch either. These problems, I'm guessing are a result of the combination of objects delivered by Software Update yesterday. Based on the log below, I installed the following:
    2006-05-29 22:05:53 -0700: Installed "Pages Update" (1.0.2)
    2006-05-29 22:05:58 -0700: Installed "Apple Intermediate Codec" (1.0.1)
    2006-05-29 22:06:12 -0700: Installed "Keynote Update" (2.0.2)
    2006-05-29 22:06:52 -0700: Installed "GarageBand Update" (2.0.2)
    2006-05-29 22:07:42 -0700: Installed "iPhoto Update" (5.0.4)
    2006-05-29 22:08:04 -0700: Installed "Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2" (2.0)
    2006-05-29 22:09:01 -0700: Installed "QuickTime" (7.1)
    2006-05-29 22:09:43 -0700: Installed "iTunes" (6.0.4)
    2006-05-29 22:10:02 -0700: Installed "iPod Updater 2006-03-23" ( )
    Additional problematic behavior includes:
    (1) other applications saying OS X is not 10.3.8 or higher
    (2) can't launch Software Update from the Apple menu or from the "About This Mac" window
    (3) can't see the system version in "About This Mac" (shows the serial number instead)
    (4) can't run a bunch of other apps (Dashboard, iMovie, iChat, Sims 2 University)
Any clues? Am I in the right forum?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    (3) in About This Mac click on the serial number and it should cycle through the Mac OS version, build, and serial number. Run Repair Disk Permissions then run Software update again. There might be other updates available. After each update run Repair Disk Permissions.

  • Can time machine restore in new HDD?

if i backup my mac os in an external hdd with time machine and then ill change my mac hdd, can time machine restore my os in new hdd?(for example by Recovery Disk Assistant)

Naming it the same tends to make things easier. Time Machine can backup your entire OS as long as you haven't excluded anything in System Preferences/Time Machine/Options.
Another option is to make a bootable clone. You should have more than one backup on 2 different drives since hard drives do fail.
Clone  - Carbon Copy Cloner          (Often recommended as it has more features than some others)
    Clone – Data Backup
    Clone – Deja Vu
    Clone  - SuperDuper
    Clone - Synk
Clone Software – 6 Applications Tested

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the bottom of the computer, inside the battery compartment, or on the BIOS startup/setup screen. Please do not include the serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and post it here for our review.
If your computer came with Windows 8, it may be possible to install the SSD and run your HP Recovery Discs successfully. If successful, your SSD will be partitoned with an OS partition and other partition. If this doesn't work you may be able to download Windows 8 OEM and install that, however your computer will have no HP customization and you won't be able to install any HP value-added software.
If your computer came with Windows 7, it is unlikely that your will be able to run your HP Recovery Discs successfully on the SSD. You may be able to download and install Windows 7, however your computer will have no HP customization and you won't be able to install any HP value-added software.
In both cases you may be able to "clone" the factory hard drive to the SSD.

  • Can't boot MBP. New HDD worked for a day, back at square one

Out of no-where my MBP froze after bring it out of sleep mode. I held down the power button and when turning it on it stuck at the grey spinning circle screen. I tried:
    1) reset PRAM
    2) booting to recovery partition and repair permissions and disk.Disk repair failed, can't recall the exact error.
    3) booting to 10.7 CD that I made from my Lion AppStore download and repairing permissions and disk. Disk repair failed, can't recall the exact error.
I had a spare drive lying around so I opened it up and replaced the drive. Booted to the Lion DVD, formatted the drive and install Lion. Everything installed no problems. After the install I downloaded all of my applications and starting restoring all of my data from a backup drive. After getting almost all of my things set up to my liking the machine hung. I held down the power button and then pressed power again to turn on the machine. After the Apple logo screen the dreaded flashing question mark came onto the screen.
I can take either of these two HDDs and place them into an enclosure and read/write data on the disk without a problem so it seems unlikely that I had two bad (flaky) HDDs. I tried inserting my 10.6 and 10.5 install discs and holding D before the grey screen to start the hardware diagnostics tool but it just boots onto a black screen with a white cursor in the top left corner. I'm afraid to let it sit at this screen too long because the machine gets pretty hot near the display hinge.
    Any ideas?

I tried that earlier but I guess I didn't wait long enough. I wasn't factoring in that the load time would be slower booting it via USB. If it's just that cable that would be great. It's ironic if that's the problem because I replaced that cable 6-8 months ago because my sleep indicator stopped working. I may have the old one, if not I'll order one since it's only a $30-40 part and let you know if that resolved it.

  • Can't Launch Safari

Tried deleting all preferences and caches and restarting Safari..but it didn't work. Says "The application Safri wuit unexpectedly. The problem may be caused by the TastyAppsAVPlugin plug-in. That plug-in does not exist on my computer. I've tried Spotlight and manually going through files for it. Some additional information - I've tried manually configuing the proxy settings of the network to have access to certain sites. The attempt failed and I cleared all of the numbers I entered in the proxy protocols back to original(it had nothing all in them if I remember correctly.) Didn't touch the bypass settings for hosts and domain.
Did any of the following actions prevent safari from launching?

Back up your important data and do an Archive and Install.

Available disc space? Control or right click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop. Click "Get Info". Under the General tab you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is at least 10% available disk space, 15% is better.

  • I can't launch Safari Public Beta on my XP box....

Hello world, after I installed safari on my PC for the first time, and I launched it. I receive the error messages. "Safari Web Browser has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and I always press "Send Error Report". I hope the future Public Beta 2 may be different from the beta version I used.

... not that this question would be of any immediate help, Harry ... but is this the crash happening on the same PC where you were getting the similar crash with your iTunes 7.2.0.34?
is anyone else who was getting the iTunes 7.2.0.34 crash described in the following document:
iTunes 7.2 for Windows doesn't open
... (the version of this that was fixed in 7.2.0.35, that is), also getting Harry's "Safari Web Browser has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" message with the current public beta?

  • New HDD question

So I just bought a new HDD for my Powerbook and I am going to install it myself. I am pretty confident in my ability to physically install it, but I am unsure of the software end of things (being I am a switch over from Windows). I have the original disks that came with it. What do I do once the new hard drive is installed? If you could simplify that would be great cause I'm a complete Mac n00b. Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
So I just bought a new HDD for my Powerbook and I am going to install it myself.
You don't say which PowerBook G4 15" you have, but you will find step by step directions for installation here. Select you PB in the list then navigate to the directions for Replacing HDD. In addition here are few tips you may find helpful:
    • Print out the ifixit directions as well as the screw guide ahead of time.
    • Be sure you have the right tools. You don't want to damage the screw heads or you may never get them out. And the Torx screw driver is critical.
    • I use small medicine cups one for the screws in each step. I nest them so that the last ones out and the first to go back in are on top. You can use an ice cube tray, egg carton, dixie cups etc. (Some users report cutting up the screw guide and placing the applicable section in each container. One user reports printing a full page picture of upper case with all the different size screws, after keyboard, and poking the screws into the correct positions on the page as they were removed.)
    • Be very careful pulling out leads. Hold the lead as close to the plug as possible and wiggle (the plug ) to loosen its grip. Don’t hold the wires and pull as that can damage the cable, or worse, in some instances pull the wires out of the plug. Indeed, some users have pulled the socket off the logic board! Use needle nose pliers or tweezers if you can access the plug, or nudge the plug with a small instrument to help loosen its grip.
    • Use force gently in removing parts. Separating upper and lower case takes some doing. Use a plastic tool (spudge) so as not to leave marks.
    • Refer to the screw guide when reassembling computer. Putting longer screws in the wrong place can perforate the circuit board.
Once you have the HDD installed you will need to format and erase the HDD prior to installing.
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing a Hard Disk Drive
    • With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
    • Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
    • Select language
    • Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
    • Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
    • Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
    • (where available) Click on Options button
    • Select Apple Partition Map (PPC Macs) or GUID Partition Table (Intel Macs)
    • Click OK
    • Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
    • Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
    • Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    • Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
    • Select Erase tab
    • Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
    • Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
    • Click Erase button
    • Quit Disk Utility.
Your HDD is now ready for either a fresh install of the OS and restoring from backup, or, if you have a previous installation that is sound, you can clone back to your new HDD. Post back for step by step directions.
