Can't log new user onto Mac Mini Server

I can't log a new user into Mac Mini server.  Have added the user to the Workgroup Manager, and am now trying to use the password created there for log-in on user computer. Any advice?

Do you have Server Access Control Lists (SACLs) configured?  If so, you will need to add this new user to the appropriate SACLs before it can connect.  As an example, when I create new users, I need to add them to the File Sharing SACL or they never see any available shares on the server.

I have a Mac Mini with OS X Server 10.8.5 and Server 2.2.1 and have a problem to share the public folder.
When I enter the Server application to indicate that I want to share the public folder on the network and assign user I get the following message appears
And I can not share the folder.
If I go from my i-mac get mac mini server view and access the public folder, but I can not open any of the files there.

  • Please help. Can no longer connect to my Mac Mini Server

Up until two days ago, my iMacs were connecting to my Mac Mini Server normally. All of a sudden I could no longer transfer files without being prompted to type my password. Enter password and nothing happened, then got an error message stating that I don't have permission to do that. Now, a day later, no acces to my server. Has anyone ever experienced this? Can anyone please help? I've read the Mac mini booklet but doesn't have any troubleshooting info. Thanks in advance.

    Hello MrHoffman,
Thank you for the advice. I went into Terminal first and typed in your command and this is what resulted:

  • How many users on Mac Mini Server?

    Good morning,
Apple's recent changes to the Mac Mini line have thrown a wrench in a project plan I've been working. One part of the project needs a quad-core computer (FileMaker Server) and so I'm having to either search for an older model or switch up to a Mac Pro.
The other part of the project involves bringing a Mac-based server in for directory and user services, including mail.  I had planned to use the high-end Mac Mini Server but that option was removed. The office I'm supporting is about 15 people (usually a little less on the network) and most of their work will actually be done against the other computer running the FileMaker Server-based application. I was not expecting a big load against the Mac Mini Server. But these changes got me wondering, what are others' experiences with Mac Mini as a server for 12-15 people? I'm happy with qualitative and quantitative data, but I would like to know which is which. In general:
For how many users have you provided directory and user services (built in to the OS) using a single Mac Mini?
What were the specs of the Mac Mini (year or model, speed, CPU config, RAM)?
         Other thoughts?
In essence, I need to understand if people have successfully used dual core processors as Mac Mini servers in environments of 12-15 people. I've done it using a 2012 Mac Mini Server with 5-6 and the loading seems to support further growth, but would like real-world experience.
    Thanks.

Dutch Apple employee told me that Mac OS X 10.6 Server has also Windows Terminal Services equivalent.
    But this is not !
Not yet (?) available in Snow Leopard Server.

  • How can I create RAID 1 on Mac mini server just now from box.

I bought my Mac mini server two days ago and decided that 1Tb + 1Tb HDD are very good for RAID 1 (mirroring).
Thinking - doing ... Open Disk Utility, try to change and create RAID. Nothing. Try to reinstall OS X - recovery part are on disk all time.
Does anybody can help me to create what I want and how to do this with minimum energy. Thanks a lot.

Start from an Internet Recovery which boots you into it's own Recovery Partition. From there use Disk Utility to put your 2 drives into RAID 1. Reinstall OS X from the Internet Recovery once you have done that and install everything else as you need to.
Be aware that RAID volumes do not have their own Recovery Partition so you will need to either have an external drive with an RP to boot into else you will need to use Internet Recovery each time (which is around a 650MB download).

  • Can I install Snow Leopard on Mac Mini Server hardware?

What I would like to do is buy the Mac Mini Server but I don't need the server OS. I want the desktop OS on the Mac Mini Server. Will installing Snow Leopard on the server hardware be just like installing it on a regular Mac Mini?
Or should I just wait and see how Lion shakes out?

Thanks Indy, I already had proceeded the installation according your tip. Just an objection related to the updates: I was able to install the OS updates only while in target mode, as when I made 2 attempts to update the version 10.6.6 to the current one (10.6.7 - the combo one and the MBP version too) it was not permitted. I had to plug the FW cable into the MBP again and update the Mini's OS (using the special MBP version of 10.6.7) in target disc mode. I want to use the Mini as a media server and intend to install Windows 7 on the other HD which now hosts the server OS. However, according to one poster (Sven G) there are some problems (I don't know exactly what they are) related to Boot Camp software. Have you any information about these problems?
I have maintained both OS (standard and server) living side by side on the Mini, is there any problem with that?
Again many thanks, you were succinct, right to the point, and your tip just proved itself correct.
    Cheers
    Marola

  • Can't Log Any Users Onto My Domain Except the Administrator Getting The Following Error "The user profile service failed the logon"

    Hi All,
I am currently completing a project for college which involves the creation of a domain, OU's, GPO's etc within a virtual environment.
I am using Windows Server 2008 Enterprise running this on VMware however after having completed and tested all my GPO's now none of my users are able to log on to the domain and keep getting the following error message "The user profile service failed
the logon" "User profile cannot be loaded".
I have tried to a lot of different options prior to posting which include:
Creating a new user account/s in case the previous user policies were corrupt the same error message is shown.
I also configured my DC to allow users to log onto the DC in case this was a network issue but the same error still exists.
My Administrator account always logs onto the DC without fail and applies all the GPO's as it should.
I have rebuilt my servers twice now at this stage and the same problems keep happening at first it was just confined to users within a single OU but now is Domain wide any suggestions on what I can do.
    Thanks,
    John

    John,
Since this is a project, you may have experimented with various settings in multiple Group Policies, so I would recommend you run the Group Policy Modelling Wizard, as it will show you all the GP settings down to a specific user on a specific computer, plus
tell you which Group Policy sets and which settings, and thereby perhaps find where the problem occurs.
Please mark as answer or vote
    as helpful when
    it applies. Thanks!

  • New User to Mac Mini - upgrades

I am about to purchase a Mac Mini from an acquitence whom I trust. He has only bought this a few months ago, and is upgrading his system.
The one he has is the smallest of the models and I am wondering if I would like to upgrade it, is it possible? Also, if not suggested, can someone give me layman terms on what it would be capable of as far as storage of music or pictures, and how fast it would be? Sorry, I am being very generic in questions, I just don't know too much about hardware. I appreciate the feedback.
    Thank you.

Well, those are better specs than my Mac mini, which is a couple of years older. You can get by on 2GB of memory, but you may experience faster performance with more, particularly if you have several applications open simultaneously. The hard drive is not super large, but it should also be fine unless you are going to store a ton of videos and/or big graphics files.
You can upgrade the memory and the hard drive - those components are not terribly costly, and if you are slightly handy, you can do the job yourself. You have to pry the two halves of the Mini to get inside, but once you are in, it is an easy matter to replace RAM (up to 8 GB) or the hard drive (which, by the way, is the smaller 2.5" size used in most laptops. • Can't create new users after GroupWise is moved from NetWare to Linux

    Hi,
I moved GroupWise (Version 6.5 SP 6, single domain and single office)
from NetWare 6.5 server to SUSE Linux Enterprise server 9. It seems the
GroupWise server is running oaky. Existing users are able to connect
their mail box and send and receive messages. But I can't create new
    users on the GroupWise server.
I used ConsoleOne installed on the Linux server to create new GroupWise
users. It seemed that I was able to do it. The new users appear on the
NDS and the GroupWise File IDs were assigned for these users. And I was
able to add these new users to distribution lists. But the users DB
files (userXXX.db) were not created under /grpwise/po/ofuser on the Linux
server and they cannot connect to the server. Old users cannot find them
    in Novell GroupWise Address book.
Does anyone how to fix the problem?
    Thanks in advance!

This clearly sounds like your domain (which is the part of groupwise
which you admin against) doesn't/can't talk to the postoffice, so the
change you made (to the domain) does never get to the PO (which is where
the addressbook of your other users come from, and is what is
responsible for creating the user DB). This seems very likely to be
caused by your move not being done properly, and old information (either
path or IP address) for the PO still being in the domain and/or domain
    database.
So how's the domain linked to the PO?

  • Has Apple ditched Mac Mini Server?

Last year I got a Mac Mini Server 2012. It was a fantastic server with 2 HDDs embedded! I have been waiting for an upgrade version.  Finally the new Mac Mini series launched a couple of days ago.  However, I couldn't find or customise a new model of Mac Mini Server to buy.  Did I miss something?  Or I have to DIY myself?
By the way, my current Mac Mini Server's Server app (version 3.2.2) can't be loaded after upgrade it to Yosemite.  There is no update indication from the App Store.  Does it mean that I have to pay to buy Server 4.0.1?

I also think the OS X Server is a good offering, and it has improved with Yosemite too! Better view over access, monitoring of reachable services, SMB3 support for Windows sharing and such. I run it off a Mini Server 2009 still! Had to replace both drives once but otherwise a solid server. Wanting to replace it soon I was sad to see the Mini Server go, especially upgradable RAM and quad core processors. the closest alternative now is oddly the 21'' iMac w 2,7MHz processor and 8GB RAM and 1TB disk and a thunderbolt array for extra storage. Weird looking data center .
Or find an unsold Mini Server at a retailer...

  • Mac mini server won't load after creating RAID0

After creating a RAID0 stripe set and tried to re-install Lion server back on my new Mac mini server, it failed at the end of the installation asking me to try to run the installation again, I tried three times with the same result.  So I tried to boot from a USB Lion image but it won't recognize it, I even tried to boot from a USB Snow Leopard image and it won't recognize it either.  What else can I try to bring my Mac mini server back.

Have a look at this thread guys, it should help sort out your problems.

  • Mac Mini Server Interference

I just purchased a new 2012 model Mac Mini Server.  When it is powered on, my office mate's desktop PC's wireless mouse and keyboard experiences significant lags.  When I power down the Mini, the lags go away.  I have attempted to turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, but neither cause the lag to cease.  Any suggestions on what could cause this and how it could be remedied?
    Thanks.

Hmmmm, this is one of te strangest things I've run accross, but my first guess given the things youve tried, is a Ground loop on some A/C circuit!???

  • Mac Mini Server with Snow Leopard - PARTITIONS

I may be mad but was wondering - why does the mac mini server create a partitioned HDD? I want to use the 1TB with out a partition - am I right in thinking that to solve this I simply delete one of the partitions (obviously the one that is empty)? I need to use the whole HDD and intend to back it up using a Time Capsule. Can anyone advise?
    Many thanks

The mac mini server comes with 2 physical 500Gig drives. It's not one drive that's been partitioned so you can't delete it to get 1 TB. What you can do is define a Raid 0 set in disk utility so that the 2 physical drives look like 1 logical 1TB drive.
Here's a little overview of Raid:

  • New Mac Mini Server, two Hard drives, Can I install an older Mac OS on the second drive and switch start up disks to run PowerPc applications?

New Mac Mini Server, has two Hard drives, could I install an older Mac OS on the second drive and switch start up disks to run PowerPc applications?

I haven't purchased a Mac Mini at this time and I may not if I can't use it as a non server. I need to update my system I would be better off buying a new Mac with Snow Leopard the last app that will run Rosetta. The Mac Mini Server has a quad 2.0 processor and 4 GB RAM and two internal hard drives and should out perform my dual 1.25 G4. I can run PPC apps on my G4 but it is 8+ years old and seems to be getting noisy. I don't want to tie myself to another old machine. I want a machine that will work with Intel Apps I was hoping that the two hard drives would allow me to boot from the second with Snow Leopard and use Lion on the first drive to be able to keep up to date with all my other universal apps and Mac OS up grades. The application I use the most is my CanvasX app with drawing & vector effects, text & typography, sprite technology, painting, image editing, and multimedia tools are all in this one app but will not be updated to run Intel apps. I am frozen in time because my most valuable Application won't be updated and Apple has cut me off by not supporting PPC in Lion and onward; Apple used to backward support but I guess that they are no longer as user friendly and concerned with a happy user. I have always been a loyal Mac user and I will not migrate to Windows under any circumstance; I hate windows!
    Thanks for your prompt response,
