Can't move photos or folders inside Lightroom

Dragging photos or folders doesn't work properly. I've tried dragging the image and the border of photos but neither works. Occasionally, I can move photos, but more than 50% of the time it doesn't. I've been having this trouble since using Lightroom a couple of years ago, but now it fails more than it works. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I think the main reason we photographers try to move the pictures by clicking on the frames is that we are trained to avoid touching the picture itself not to leave any fingerprints.

You are right there! Intuitively I wasn't clicking over the image because from the first time I started using a camera my father drilled into me: Don't touch the negative except on the edges. To this day I cringe at people touching their monitors because of the finger prints they leave behind.

can I move photos in bridge to lightroom?

Steve, you have a few misconceptions.
First, you do NOT want to be using both Bridge and Lightroom on your photos. One or the other, but not both. You are opening yourself up to confusion if the information in Bridge doesn't match the information in Lightroom, and secondly, its more work to use both. Use one or the other, not both.
ACR do you mean converting a picture to a Raw image from say a JPEG image?
ACR is the image editing part of Adobe Bridge and Photoshop. The goal is not really to convert RAW to JPG (although you can do that). The goal is to edit the RAW and maintain maximum quality.
So basically Bridge is a way to view your photos in one place and then be able to get them into PSCC in my case and LR.
If you use Lightroom, you don't need to use Bridge, and in fact I would say, you shouldn't use Bridge. You can import your photos into Lightroom, or open them in Photoshop, without ever using Bridge.
There are a gazillion and a half tutorials on-line about Lightroom, I suggest you view some to eliminate some of your misconceptions. For example, these are very good: Getting Started with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 | Adobe TV

  • I upgraded to Lightroom 3.4 and can't move photos into collections or files

I upgraded to Lightroom 3.4 and can't move photos into collections or files

To move a photo into a collection, you point your mouse at the photo(s) (not the gray rectangle around the photo) and drag it into a collection.
You can't move a photo into a file. Perhaps you meant something else?

  • How to move files between folders within Lightroom 3?

I would like to move a file from one folder to another within Lightroom 3 (let's not discuss why). I searched the threads but couldn't find the answer (maybe I missed it). When I click on a photo within grid view then drag and drop that file onto a different folder in the folder panel (to do the move), a little plus sign (copy) appears and a copy of the file is placed in the second folder. If I try to delete the photo from the original folder (to get the move), both copies of the file are removed. I've tried holding down all sorts of keys on the imac but cannot get the move to work. Ideally, I'd like to move a group of photos but cannot even move one. Does anyone know how to move files between folders in Lightroom 3?

Your suggestion works. Thank you for posting it.

Try selecting the photos, right-clicking the target folder and choosing
"Move Selected Photos to This Folder".

  • Can I export photos from iphoto to lightroom?

can I export photos from iphoto to lightroom?

Not very knowledgeable on iPhoto are we?
The problem with iPhoto is it copies and or moves all your photo into it's database structure which is just a pain
It moves nothing. It can copy, or reference the images.
Even Picasa is better then iPhoto as it actually displays RAW images.
As Keith says, iPhoto work with every format that the OS supports - in other words all the same ones as Aperture.
iPhoto doesn't even support Adobe DNG format.
    Going for 0/3 ?
As for migrating from iPhoto to Lightroom:  Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.

I can't move photos from iPhoto to my secondary hard drive or to a burn folder.  I have never had a problem with this before.  This is something new.   They will not drop into either folder.  Nothing happens.
I checked my secondary harddrive and there is plenty of memory.
I emptied my burn folder but the photos still will not drop into it.
I created a new burn folder, no luck with this either.
230 photos is the maximum size of the events I am trying to move from iPhoto to save elsewhere.
I have shut down and restarted my computer.   No change. The photos still will not drop out of iPhoto.
My Mac Computer Storage shows that I have 62.2GB free out of 249.2GB (movies, photos and contacts taking up the most space)
My Lacie External Harddrive (2TB capacity) shows that I have 1.79TB available.  It shows that 207,729,520,640 bytes (207.73 GB on disk) are used.
I have never had this problem before.  It is usually very easy to move my photos from iPhoto.
I am not a computer expert (I work in surgery so don't have a need for lots of computer knowledge) so please explain in simple terms.
Thank you so much for any help you can provide.
    I really appreciate it.

YES Terence!  Thank you. Exporting allowed me to move my photos from iPhoto into the Burn Folder on my desktop.   But that doesn't explain why I'm having to go that route now.   Have I done something (accidentally changed some setting) on my computer that will not allow me to just click and drag anymore?   I really liked the convenience of the click and drag option.
I don't have the time tonight to export and burn a lot of CD/DVDs.  I'll try that tomorrow and make sure my photos are moving properly.  I also need to export photos to my external hard drive to make sure that route is working.
Wouldn't you know that my Apple Care Plan runs out this Wednesday?!  I need to make sure everything is working properly before that expires.
Thank you so much for your help.   I really, really appreciate it.

  • Can I move photos from one computer to another using Vault?

Can I move photos from one computer to another using Vault?  I use an external hard drive as a vault for my Imac and I want to import photos to my Macbook pro.  I have aperture 3 on both units.  Can I just plug the ext. drive into the laptop and import from the vault?

You can't import from the vault but you can restore that vault onto the MBP. This will restore the complete library that is contained in the vault.

  • Can I move photos around in iPad?  There are some photos in camera roll, are those the ones I took with iPad?  Then there are some that are imported-I guess those are the ones from my camera.  Can I combine them into different albums?  Thanks

Can I mover photos around in iPad?  There are photos on the camera roll-are those the ones I took with iPad?  Then there are the ones labeled as imported-I guess those are the ones I took with my camera?  Can I combine pictures from both into one album?  Thanks.

At the moment no, you cannot move photos between albums in the Photos app directly on the iPad - but with iOS 5 (which will be free to download) in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device.

How can I move photos from pictures to my external hard drive? I have copied all photos, however it won't allow me to paste the photos.  The paste button is grayed out.

Do you want to copy some pictures to the external drive, or do you want to move your whole iPhoto library? The latter will free up hard drive space on your start up disk; the procedure is explained here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2506
Note this is not the same as a Time Machine backup.
If on the other hand you want to copy some photos from one drive to another, you can just drag and drop them from one location to another. This is a true copy, the originals will remain intact.

  • Hard Drive Failing, Need to Move Photo Source Folders

How does one move photo source folders from one drive to another in PSE11 without loosing the file links?

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
