Can`t open any DVD files, not playing CD's and DVD's
Ok, about a week ago I left my MacBook with a music CD playing. When I returned, my MacBook didn't showed the cd. I've tried ejecting the disc and playing it again, but it seemed that computers always have something against me! Now, after too much attempts to eject the disc, i did it. But, now the machine does not recognize and read any disk. Only the HD, but not cds, not dvds, and, not external hard drives. Really help, i'm sick of always the same!
thanks by the tips, i tried them and worked. but, again, the problem grew and now, the optical drive could make nothing. not read, not eject (even with the terminal command), not recognize nothing(not my external disk from 1 TB, this is another problem.) i'm completely sad, because don't want to change my mac right now. however, any help is completely accepted.

Just upgraded to Lion, can't open any pdf file downloaded from the internet that was fine with Leopard before. I just got a black screen when I clicked on a pdf icon on a given internet site, and same happened with several sites that I visited. How can I overcome this obstacle ?
Try two things with Safari not running:
1) Launch Adobe Reader, open its preferences, select the Internet category, and check the values under "Display PDF in browser using". If it's checked, try unchecking it.
2) Look in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins (at the top-level of your boot volume) for something names AdobePDFViewer.plugin. If you see such a file, try moving it to a folder named "Disabled Plug-Ins" (if such a folder exists) or onto the Desktop.
Then see how things work. -
I recently downloaded the most recent version of snow leopard to my imac. Now I can't open any pdf files. I just get a dark gray screen when I try to pull one up. Has anyone else had this problem? Please advise.

When I try to open .exe files I get an error message that says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." I've gone to control panel > tools > folder options > file types and tried to set "exe" to "application," but that doesn't seem to work. Funny enough, I am able to open other types of programs like pictures, videos and PDF files, and if I open an html file directly I can open Firefox, but I can't open firefox.exe directly. I would like to run an antivirus or malware-check program but, of course, I can't open any .exe files.
I am running Windows XP SP3 on a Lenovo Thinkpad T61.See if you are able to download DDS and save it to your desktop.
Disable any script blocking protection
Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS.txt will open.
Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
Save both reports to your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet. Some instructions for disabling AV are HERE.
Please include the contents of the following logs by copying and pasting the text of each into your next reply:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt
* NOTE: You may need to use another computer to download DDS to a CD or USB flash drive and transfer it to the Desktop of the computer with the problem.
Based on what shows up in those logs I will post additional advice.

I can't open any excel files after installing Snow Leopard. Is anyone else having this problem?

Most users who have had a problem opening Office files with the iWork apps after upgrading to Snow Leopard have the problem fixed by updating to the latest versions. For iWork '08 that is Pages 3.0.3 & Numbers 1.0.3. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.2 & Numbers 2.0.2. I don't use Keynote, but it should also be updated. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work. -
Can't open ANY pdf files. Updated to 10.1.8--still "Access Denied."

I am currently unable to open any PDF files.
I recently did a clean re-install of Windows 7 (restored my Toshiba Satellite to out-of-the-box state).
After that, I restored all of my personal files from an external HD.
Now, every time I try to open a PDF, Adobe Reader gives me the following message:
"There was an error opening the file. Access denied."
The only solution I've been able to find online has been this:
Edit > Preferences > General> Clear "Enable Protected Mode at Startup"
Also,
Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced)> Clear "Enable Enhanced Security"
Neither of these has fixed my problem.
I also updated to the lastest version--10.1.8--with no success.
I also re-downloaded and installed PDF Creator and its companion, PDF Architect. Curiously enough, I can't open any PDF in that program either. I'm not sure if there is some global setting I'm missing or something.
Access to these files is critical to my work, so any help is appreciated!

LaurenI updated from within the Adobe Reader X program (Help > Check for Updates) and it tells me: No updates available. Installed: Adober Reader X (10.1.8) MUI
Is 11.0.5 something I would have to access another way?
Also, I'm still not sure if that would fix my problem. It seems most people with the "Access Denied" error had it fixed with the very first 10.1 update, and I have 10.1.8, so I'm not sure what's causing mine. -

yvesWe all have the same issue with not being able to open "zip" or "txt" attachments, I just sent customer support an email asking when we will get some type of list showing the reported bugs and some type of change list when they issue updates. We need to know what changes have been made when they issue OS updates.

I have adobe 9.2 version. Every time I try to open an pdf file my internet shuts down and I get the message " Adobe 9.2 stop working". I am not able to open any pdf files and it is driving me crazy. Is there anyone who could help me. I have windows vista. I use this to operate my business.
From where are you trying to open these files - from an Internet link, or from a document stored on your local disk?

Can't open any iWork file anymore after upgrade !
Hello, I just upgraded my Pages, Keynote and Numbers from iWork '08 to the new Mavericks versions. I can't open any file anymore! I got the message that these files are to old and I have to save them first with iWork '09 applications which I do't have! Help please.
Finally got my hands on iWork 09 and converted all my files individually!
The iWork guys can still learn something from Microsoft with respect to backwards compatibility! -
Can't open any PNG Files in Fireworks MX2004
I am unable to open any png files with more than one element in them - eg. text and images.
I get a Could not complete your request 'internal error message'.
I've re-installed fireworks but this hasn't helped.
Please help - this is driving me mad!Thank you - this seems to have worked. I checked out the font I used in the document in 'Font Book' deleted it, re-added it and validated it, re-started my computer and am now able to open png files again. Can't open any PDF file with Adobe Acrobat XI Pro
I have tried to open multiple Acrobat files but none will open. I get a FATAL ERROR message saying: "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server." I've created documents in word and publisher and am able to convert to pdf format but after the pdf file has been created I cannot open to view and I get the error message. Please help! Thank you!
No I am thinking that the problem is with Acrobat XI Pro. Because as previously noted I can create a Word document and save as a PDF, the PDF document will be created by Acrobat XI Pro but will not open with Acrobat XI Pro, which normally happens automatically upon creating the PDF file from say Word, Exel, Publisher, etc. When I try to open with Acrobat XI Pro it give me the FATAL ERROR message saying: "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server". Since I could not open any of my PDF documents with Acrobta XI Pro, because I had Acrobat XI Pro as my default PDF creater and reader, I installed Adobe Reader, hoping that it would allow me to view the PDF documents that I had just created with Acrobat XI Pro and it did. The problem is that I cannot open Acrobat XI Pro to creat or edit or add PDF restrictions on a PDF document straight from Acrobat XI Pro, but I can create a, say Word document, and save as a PDF file. Before installing Adobe Reader I could not open, see or edit the just created PDF file created through Word it is just now after installing Acrobat Reader.
Also worth noting.
I have been told that this same problem happened sometime ago with Adobe Acrobat X Pro (Vesion 10) and that the problem was fixed by editing something within the registry. Does anyone know anything about that? Thanks! -
Adobe Reader 9 installed but can't open any pdf. file now
I have been successfully using the Acrobat Adobe 8 with no problem until trying to download the Adobe Reader 9.
I run on Windows XP. Ever since downloading Adobe Reader 9....I can no longer use Acrobat Adobe at all. I can not
read or open any Acrobat Adobe files .pdf no matter what application was used in creating them or rather they were created by me or someone else.
I get the error message that Adobe encountered a problem and had to close. Someone PLEASE help.Repairing Acrobat after removing Acrobat Reader worked for me in the past. I would try that first before removing Acrobat.

I have photoshop cs5 and after purchasing a nikon d7100, photoshop will not open any of the nef files like it did with my nikon d90, I contacted support and they assured me after update that issue would be resolved...still not resolved, any suggestions?

Then please check your version (Photoshop > About Plug-In > Camera Raw).
As you should see your version is not up to the task.
You can either buy a license for a more current version of Photoshop (CS6 is still available) or switch to the … Cloud License model or use the free DNG Converter.
