Can't open camera RAW image in CS4/Bridge with Win 8.1.  Worked fine with XP

I upgraded from Win XP to 8.1 and got a new computer in the process.  I'm using CS4, and I think that works okay, except it does not recognize a RAW file.  Bridge won't open thumbnails for RAW files, and if I try to open one it doesn't open it in Bridge; it goes straight to CS4 and that says it's 'not the right kind of document'. It doesn't matter if the file is on the hard drive or on a Canon card in a reader. Bridge will display thumbnails for JPG files and open them in CS4.  It will not show the thumbnails for TIF files, but it will open them in CS4. How do I fix this?

I did all that, in the order you recommended.  I downloaded, expanded and installed all three updates. I then checked the start page for CS4 and it is at 11.0.2. I also rebooted, but Bridge still won't display thumbnails of RAW files, will not open a RAW file in Bridge but sends it to CS4 which still says it is not the right kind of document.  If I try to open a RAW file in CS4 directly, I do get thumbnails, but it won't open the file.  On a more positive note, I called a friend who also has CS4 and who also recently bought a new computer.  However, his is a laptop with Win 8 Professional. He had not tried to use Photoshop since he got the new laptop, and he discovered that he had the very same problem. However, downloading the updates fixed him right up. My new machine is a desktop with Win 8.1.  What do I do now?

Cannot open camera RAW images from Sony DSC-RX100M3 camera.  Working on a Mac with Photoshop CS5 and Camera Raw 6.7?

    Bruce,
When I made the transition to digital some 8 years ago, I had tremendous help from a number of well documented websites, among which:
    http://www.luminous-landscape.com
I think a lot of stuff there to get you seriously going. Another one is:
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com
I sold all my film based stuff, except a Nikon F3 and a handful of lenses and a Paterson developing tank.
The Nikon suspiciously smells like foam mirror damping strips chemically decaying.
I sold my enlarger over the internet. The word "enlarger" caused me to be on SpamCops blacklist for a while.
I'm in this since the seventies, and I think you'll be as amazed as I was at the possibilities and control you have. And no more bags with $300 worth of film that's consumed in one shoot.
Jump in both feet! you won't be sorry. And these forums are the best help you can get.
    Good luck,
    Rob

Can't open camera raw in Bridge as broken circle is greyed out.  Why

    Not a clue.
I have no idea what you mean by "broken circle" and no clue as to what platform you're on, Macintosh or Windows, exact version of the OS, Bridge, ACR and Photoshop, what type of machine, RAM, etc.

    •  If using Mac OS X (10.7.4), do the following:
    (1) Mac OS X (10.7.4):  Restart Mac, download and install OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo).
    (2) install Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 4.06
    (3) If trouble continues, use your Mac's  > Software Update... menu command to see if newer updates are available.
    (4) If trouble continues after all Apple Updates are applied, contact your camera manufacturer for suggestions.
    •  If using Mavericks, restart Mac, download, and install the latest Digital Camera RAW Compatibility update.
Use your Mac's  > Software Update... menu command to ensure your Mac software is up to date.
If the trouble continues, contact your camera manufacturer.  They may have software for translating their RAW files.

  • Opening Camera Raw file in CS3 Bridge

I have CS3 Bridge and CS3 Dreamweaver instaled as well as Photoshop CS2.
I want to open Camera Raw files in CS3 Bridge. The Bridge Help file says:
"Select 'Edit Camera Raw Settings' in Bridge General Preferences to open Camera Raw dialog box in Bridge" (as opposed to opening in Photoshop.)
But my Bridge General Preferences has no such checkbox option. When I open a CR file in CS3 Bridge, the file opens in Photoshop CS2.
How do I get the file to open in CS3 Bridge.
    Thanks, CMA

I had a problem with this previously and came up with the following:
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF and hold down the shift key, Camera Raw will not be scheduled
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image, the image will always schedule Camera Raw if the Bridge menu item Edit/Preference/Thumbnails has Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF checked (Bridge JPEG and TIFF Checked).
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image and Bridge JPEG and TIFF is unchecked and the JPEG or TIFF image has previously been processed by Camera Raw, Camera Raw will be scheduled if Camera Raw Preferences dialog has Always open JPEG files with settings using Camera Raw or Always open TIFF files with settings using Camera Raw checked.
If I am in Bridge and double click a TIFF image and the TIFF file has layers, the TIFF file will not schedule Camera Raw.
In Photoshop Preferences (Edit/Preference/File Handling) there is a check box titled Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files. I checked the check box and opened a JPEG image in Photoshop Camera Raw was scheduled. I clicked Open Image in ACR and then saved the image in Photoshop (JPEG saved in Photoshop after passing thru ACR). I then Unchecked the check box and opened the JPEG file Camera Raw was not scheduled.
The only action I see for the Photoshop File Handling check box is to either schedule or not to schedule JPEG images. I do not see any related action for TIFF files in Photoshop. My expectation is that TIFF files will open in Photoshop not ACR.

  • Since installing Photoshop CC I can't access Camera Raw from the program Bridge.

Since installing Photoshop CC I can't access Camera Raw from the program Bridge.  When I try, I get a message that says, "Camera Raw editing is not enabled. Camera Raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature."  Is Photoshop CC a qualifying product?  It has been opened a number of times, but it doesn't solve this problem.

I am having this exact same problem and just upgraded to Windows 7...many people are saying to update the Plug In for Camera Raw to 4.6, but that is not working for me to see it in Bridge or Camera Raw.

I installed CS3 on my windows 8 laptop. Why can't I open my raw images in camera raw? Worked fine on my old XP computer

If in photoshop cs3 you go to Help>About Plug-In and click on the words Camera Raw, what version does it say?
Which camera are the camera raw files from?
After you downloaded the Camera_Raw_4_6.zip, you unzipped (extracted) the file and then copied the Camera Raw.8bi to
    Program Files x86\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats (windows 8 64 bit)
    or
    Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats (windows 8 32 bit)
replacing the existing camera raw 8bi?

  • Opening  camera RAW images in CS2...  It won't do it!

I'm trying to open RAW images in CS2. When I try to do it, an error box pops up saying that it's an unknown file type(.nef). I've even tried using the software that my camera came with, but that won't let me either.
Also, the image RAW dialog box doesn't even come up when I try to open a raw image... Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Ok, I figured it out. I had to get a dng converter that was up to date.
I'm able to convert them to a negative now so I can upload them to P.S.
    Thanks for your advice!

  • Cannot Open Camera Raw images in CS2

    Hi
I am running CS2 and PSE 8,but cannot open Raw images in CS2
My camera is an Eos 5 MKII
Camera Raw in PSE is 5.5.
I would like to open the Raw files into CS2.
    Any Help would be appreciated.
I am using the latest firmware from Canon.
    Thankyou
    Keith

Raw files are unique to each camera model and manufacturer. There is a 'model' field and 'manufacturer' field whose values are checked as any RAW format file is opened and if the program opening that file does not have the codes for processing that specific camera's RAW file, most programs will throw a error message and not precess that file.
For Adobe image editing programs you need to have the an ACR plugin version that provides the code for your camera model.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras list the various cameras supported by Adobe photo editing programs and the version of the earlies ACR plug-in that supports that camera.
For the Canon Eos 5D MKII you will need ACR plug-in version 5.2 or better.
Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications list the program versions of Adobe image editing programs, the ACR plug-in version shipped with the program and the latest ACR plug-in version that that program can use.
The last ACR plug-in version for CS2 is 3.7, so you can not directly open the CR2 or RAW image from this camera. You could upgrade to PhotoShop CS5, the most current version of PhotoShop, or download a copy the free Adobe DNG, Digital NeGative, converter and convert your CR2 files to the Adobe DNG format and then open the DNG file with your copy PhotoShop CS2. You could also open the file with Canon image editing software and transfer the image as Tiff to your copy of CS2.

  • Can't open Camera Raw (CR2) files in Photoshop CS3?

I can't seem to open Camera Raw CR2 files in Photoshop CS3, my CameraRaw plug in version says it's 4.6 - any help appreciated.

Have you tried opening up out of Bridge? If that doesn't work you may new need to download a new driver from Canon. All my peripherals are Canon and I am always having to download new drivers everytime I update. Fortunatly they are really easy to find on Canon's site.

  • I can't open Camera Raw from Bridge

Why is it that I can not open CR from Bridge. I can see it in Plug ins. I don't see any reference to CR in Preferences. Why is that?

What version of photoshop and operating system are you using?
What kind of file do you want to open in camera raw?
If you right click on a camera raw file thumbnail in Bridge, do you see Open in Camera Raw?

  • Can't open Camera Raw in Bridge

One thing I noticed is that with CS5, when I choose Browse in Mini Bridge while in Photoshop, Bridge opens in the background. In CS6 when I browse in Mini Bridge, regular Bridge does not open, although I can open Bridge directly from Photoshop. The other strange thing is that I can open Camera Raw from mini Bridge, just not from regular Bridge. I get the same message as others get, that Bridge's parent application is not active and that I must launch a qualifying product at least once in order to open Camera Raw. I searched all the files I downloaded and installed for "trial" but nothing came up. Is there a certain file name or extension I should be looking for? Or is there some other way to solve the problem?
    Thanks

Yes, but when I open mini bridge in CS5, I can see Bridge open on my taskbar at the bottom of the screen and I can click on it. In CS6 I can't see bridge open anywhere when I open mini bridge. It is like there is a separate version of bridge running invisibly or something. I don't understand it.
It sounds like your on a PC (Windows).  Windows only allows one version of Photoshop and one version of Bridge to run are ang given time.  There are also Preferences in the Bridge Advance setting to start bridge at log on. When this option is check Bridge stays open in the background and may be hidden. So if Bridge CS5 is running and you start Photoshop CS6 Bridge CS6 will not be able to start. So make sure the check box to start Bridge is not checked in both Bridge CS5 and Bridge CS6

  • Open camera raw greyed out in Bridge

I reinstalled my CS3 Photoshop and Bridge after replacing my hard drive in my Macintosh Pro desktop. All works well until I tried to use Bridge to open camera raw. "open camera raw" is greyed out and there is no way to open those files in Photoshop.
Everything in the rest of the software seems OK.
Thanks for any advice from you folks.

Bridge: Apply all CS3 updates in order, bottom to top.
Photoshop Version CS3 (not CS3 International), Start from the bottom with Buffering Extensions, 10.0.1 update, and you can go all the way to Adobe Camera Raw 4.6
If you have a camera models beyond what's supported in 4.6 and your OSX is 10.7 or later, download the 8.7.1 DNG converter.
