Can't open doc in Pages iWork 9 / SL 10.6.6

Hiya,
Already read dosen of similar topics but can't find my case.
So I installed iWork for work with doc files and the first one I can't open. It writes Unknown Error/ Invalid import. I've tried another, light doc - it was successfully opened. Maybe the first one can't be open because it has a lot of graphics, tables, etc?
What do you think, lads? Any solution?

OK, Pages can't open it but TextEdit can, but then I tried it in LibraOffice and found out that it had pages in both portrait and landscape orientation. That is probably the reason to Pages being unable to open it. It also had these typical long tables with cells spanning over several pages but that wouldn't give the error message.

I have Pages 2.0.2 which I used to open and send .doc files...recently...after I was told by someone in this forum that it was OK to get rid of an old 'Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive' folder since I didn't buy it after the trial period, I have found that when I create a Pages flyer and export it to Word, it doesn't show any text or graphics anymore....
Since I have already flushed the trashed Office folder I sincerely HOPE that I wasn't misinformed and have lost this capability to translate Word in and out of my Mac....

The fact that the .doc icon 'has even changed' is a consequence of deleting the Word folder. The finder used to have an association between those file types and the Word application that is no longer present.
When you installed Word, part of that process was to associate .doc file types with the Word application so that the Finder would automatically open files of that type with Word. Hence the message about the trial expiry.
A standard part of OS X is that you can take any file and drag it to another application. If the application will open that file type (which Pages will in this case) it will open it.
If I understand you right, you are exporting a file from Pages as .doc and then trying to re-open it in Pages. My questions remain.
1. Did you ever try that before with this particular document that is giving you trouble?
2. Have you tried another Word document maybe created on a PC to verify the import into Pages is working?
3. Have you tried exporting something different (maybe simpler) from Pages as a .doc and opening it?
I'm not 100% certain but I thought that there was an uninstall program that came with the office test drive. It might be worth installing it again and running that uninstall to properly remove all traces of Office. I'm sceptical of the possibility that this is causing you problems but it's worth trying.
I'd also recommend that now is a good time to do a backup.
Finally if all this doesn't yield anything, reinstall iWork.

they are wpd files from around 2001-2003 that my Dad emailed me and on a PC was easy to simply relabel as .doc but despite this I cannot open in pages or convert to pages.
Please can you help me?

In fairness to Pages, only apps that can handle Word Perfect docs of that vintage can open them, either. W
As Viking said, changing the extension does nothing to the file structure & metadata of the document. At one time Mac people didn't bother with the extensions, because they were simply a visible indicator of the app that made them, and the Mac would get that information from the file itself.
Since you changed the extensions, some Windows apps may still use those extensions to tell them the file source. When they try to open a .wpd file as if it were a .doc file, they will get very confused.
You can try to open the files by using the Menu> Open command, with the setting of "all files." IF and only if the app can handle .wpd files, then maybe it will open it & ignore the extension.

Pages is available for MAC OSX and iOS, it doesn't run on windows at all. You can, however, use the iCloud version from within your browser (www.icloud.com, assuming you have set up an iCloud account).
Pages will open an MS word document, but converts it to Pages format. It can be reconverted to Word upon export, but some functionality may be lost (going either way).

Can not open any web page in Safari

can not open any web page in Safari on the IPad. All other wireless features work fine.

If this does not work then try a reset ,
Reset your iPad by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPad will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.

Sorry! Something went wrong - I can't open my icloud pages file anymore

I can't open my icloud pages file anymore. We are two collaborators working on it and she told me the file was freezing. I have said she can reload the file but it didn't work. Then it was my turn. I have tried from desktop but also from Ipad. The Pages app now crash when I want to open this same file. When I load my icloud page, I see the file, it is here, with the last layout, but can't open. I need to recover that document, it's important to me. Is there any assistance @apple to do so?

I have exactly the same issue !! On "Pages", "Numbers", "Keynote"
- Macbook pro retina 13" late 2013
Icloud.com tested with Chrome, Opera, Safari, Iexplorer .. same problem
Try to reset "Documents and data" from Settings >>> "Could not reset Documents and Data ; there was a problem.."

Haveing problems with Safari. It gives me an error message. Safari can't open the web page, because it can't establish a secure connection to the server. It only seams to have a problem on https sites. Any help would be apreciated.

The "s" in "https" indicates the site is a secure server--usually a site that will require a password. Connections to secure servers can be blocked by parental controls. Are you using any parental controls, either through OSX's settings (in System Preferences) or third party parental control software (such as Netnanny)? If so, check the settings to make sure they will allow the connection.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I don't know if this will help but I had a similar problem that started yesterday. I have two macs. Once can't open MS Office files from the other Mac but can open Office files on each Mac. Drove me nuts for about 2 hours today - on the phone with Apple twice and Microsoft once. Finally found a similar post from 2007 that suggested to turn off and on file sharing by unchecking the "Share files and folders using AFP", on both computers and rebooting. That fixed it.
Funny thing, it was only with Office files I created since updating the software last week. Old Office files opened fine.

To make a new document, go to File > New From Template chooser and choose the type of document you wish to create.
To add a new page to an existing document go to Insert > Sections > Blank.

IRIVER Story HD - "Can't open doc"

Hi!
I'm perfectly frustrated.
I connected my new iriver story HD (EB07) to my Adobe ID, which is activated too on my win PC.
I see the reader in ADE and all the books on it.
I can download books I bought or lent.
I can copy them to the reader.
But I cannot open them on the reader! I get the error message "Can't open doc." Nothing else.
I tried to de-install, re-install, de-activate, re-activate, remove files, copy/paste, try calibre... always the "Can't open doc."
Free books can be opened.
I tried to contact the iriver support - no answer. I wrote a ticket to adobe, no answer. I called the local adobe support, got the tip to de-activate and re-activate, but it didn't work.
Does perhaps anyone of you know the device and the error message and how to get over it?

Indeed, I had two problems:
1) the missing files. this I could solve by doing a system reset (but I came to this solution by myself, I simply tried, as I didn't get any support neither from iriver nor someone else).
2) not being able to read epub-books on my iriver
No, I could'nt really solve the problem yet.
ADE and my reader are not compatible, as adobe themselves told me...

BTFON connects but I can't open any web pages

I'm away from the address where my home hub is so I've been trying to use BTFON. I can connect fine but I can't open the landing page or any other web pages due to DNS errors.
I've checked that my DNS settings are set to automatic and it seem to be picking up the correct servers (192.168.22.22 and 192.168.22.23). I also get an IP address starting with 10. I've tried clearing my browsing history and disabling my firewall/anti virus software but still haven't succeeded.
Anyone got any experience of this sort of issue?
