Can't open iTunes- Runtime Error

I have recently been trying to open up iTunes, but I can't. I get an error saying...
"Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe
This application has requested to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."
Is there a way to fix this? Thanks

Try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Can't open iTunes, no error message

I have the itunes icon on my windows but when I open itunes it will pause for a bit with the hourglass thing and then nothing. I looked in my task manager and it doesn't show anything running. I don't get any kind of error message, any ideas???

Does Quicktime work, if not does it give an error message.
    If quicktime works then:
A couple of things to try, spyware can sometimes do this so do a scan. There is a free spyware scanner here:

  • Can't open iTunes-getting error (-3212)

I just used iTunes w/i the last week. Opened iTunes yesterday & it gave me a box that read "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. An unknown error occurred (-3212). Make sure your network connection is active and try again." My brand new iPhone (as in yesterday) was plugged in the usb when I got this error. I closed the box & tried to open the iTunes store & it would either give me the error or it wanted my password which I have not had to enter before because it was saved. I don't remember my password, don't use the old email it was created under & I have locked myself out trying. I am going insane because I am clueless what has happened. Anyone have any ideas?

Kept searching discussion board & found solution. McAfee for some reason changed firewall access to blocked. Changed to full access & iTunes now opens with no problem. Next issue is password problem. Still need to figure out what to do there.

  • Can not open iTunes, get error message 126

Unable to upgrade iTunes to lasted version.  Got error message about a missing file.  Tried to uninstall and reinstalled, after deleting Temp folder from C drive, but still get error message 126.  Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

    Hello mvguillet,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with installing the latest iTunes update.  I recommend following the steps below:
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
I understand that you have already uninstalled iTunes, but when you get to this step, it is important to uninstall iTunes and the related components in the order listed in the link for that step.

  • Can't open iTunes - has error message - Hope someone might be able to help

I had everything working about two weeks ago. I was able to download my CD's on the Nano.. Then my computer had to be reloaded with XP.. Lost iTunes..... I reinstalled it at least three times, but it will not work, even downloaded the new edition.....comes up with the following:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Etc....
What am I doing wrong? Please advise if you have had the same problem..
    Thank you.

Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly, or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • I installed the new Quicktime (7.7), but than was an error. Now I can't open iTunes because error 2095.

I wanted to install the new Quicktime but than it came an error. I started iTunes but it came just:

QuickTime is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.
but I don't wanna uninstall it. Will be my Database be away?
    Can somebody help me please?!

Hey Jack- Where did you find QuicTime 7.7 for Windows download?  I can't find v7.7, all Apple website links lead me to QT 7.6.9 as I noted here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3239439?tstart=0

  • Can't Open iTunes-Quicktime error

When I last tried updating my iTunes I had to cut the installation short and ever since I haven't been able to start iTunes. It tells me that Quicktime was not found and to reinstall iTunes. I've tried reinstalling iTunes many times but it doesn't work. My computer says I have Quicktime so I don't know what to do. Please Help!!

I experienced this same problem and struggled with it for two weeks. I had uninstalled and reinstalled many times. I had even installed Quicktime and Itunes as standalone products but still could not get past that error message or the "find Quicktime.msi" message. What finally fixed it was uninstalling (again) both Quicktime AND Itunes. I recommend backing up your music files just in case. Info on how can be found on the Apple website. Then go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and read about and install Windows Installer Cleanup. After installing it, run it and select any Quicktime, Apple and Itunes products only. You should include the MobileMe and Safari programs, as well as anything that is related to Itunes. If you are unsure, verify them first before selecting them. Once you know, select the programs from the ones Windows Installer Cleanup lists one at a time or hold down the Ctrl button and select multiple programs. Just be sure you are not selecting a program not related to Apple, Quicktime or Itunes. Once that is done, restart your computer and download Quicktime as a stand alone product (not with Itunes). Then download Itunes as a stand-alone product (not with Quicktime). I did not select Itunes as the default player, but I don't think it will make a difference. It FINALLY solved my problem. Apparently I had bits of the programs still on my computer after removing them, and it was messing up the new installations. Good Luck!

  • Can't open iTunes. Error messages says: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item." Help?? (Windows 7)

I have tried uninstalling iTunes and all of it's "Apple counterparts" (like Quicktime, Bonjour, etc)

    Hi
Some required information are needed for us to help you.
    Hi NabeelOmer,
We wonder if you have taken any action such as system restore after this issue occurred.
You might also try this command to restore your access control list.

Visual Studio is a very invasive program and which provides the ability to enumerate projects and solutions for system, user should never try uninstalling it manually without any guidance.
Visual Studio made changes for your whole system, if the file has been moved or deleted this error would occur.
Since you mentioned that you get this error almost everywhere even in control panel. We suggest you repair/reinstall your Visual Studio first and check if it could be fixed.

  • CAN'T OPEN iTunes, get message "can't open Error (-50)?

Can't open iTunes, get error message (-50)?

The 50 when launching iTunes can indicate a damaged Apple Application Support. So first I'd try a Repair install of your Apple Application Support.
Restart the PC. In your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select Apple Application Support, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does the repair install go through okay? If so, does itunes launch without the (-50)?

    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
