Can't open my own Photoshop EPS file

I'm using ID CS3.
I created a clipping path on a photo, and from old force of habit, I saved it as an EPS instead of PSD (don't know if TIFFs can include clipping paths).
Now I can't open the EPS in Photoshop. I get the "Could not complete your request because the parser module cannot parse the file" message.
I can place the EPS in InDesign, and it looks okay (clipping path works).
Two questions: does the error message mean the file is damaged? Should I worry about using it in ID?
If not, how can I open the darned thing in Photoshop??
I don't think I really need to edit this image, but I wanted to resave it as a PSD or something else that won't give me any grief if I try to open it again in the future.
Should I never save a Photoshop file in EPS format? (Oops, that's three questions ...)
TIA,
Marlene

I swear I'll never save a Photoshop file as EPS again. I never did get that file open.
But your comment about the hard edge that a clipping path provides made me think (and zoom in on the clipping path at a zillion percent in ID). That edge DID look hard and sawtoothed.
I ended up creating picture frames in ID that "clipped" the images as necessary, but that technique won't always work.
If I had left the PS clipping path intact, would it have actually printed out with the hard jagged edge? I suppose I could print it out on my LaserJet and possibly answer my own question ...

  • How can you open a PSDX Photoshop Touch file in PS cs6?

I've looked at some video and they talk about downloading a plugin for CS5x and that one isn't needed for PS CS6 w/ the ACC. I can see the psdx file but PS will not open it saying it is the wrong file type. Do I first need to export the file from PSTouch as a JPG? Can someone direct me to a specific Help Resource URL please. Thanks.

Sometimes Adobe Help and Adobe TV is not up to date or at least not very clear to me. So here is the simple answer after playing and experimenting with PST. I am unable to save or export any image OUT of PST except as a PSDX file and PS CS6 will not open a PSDX file without a plugin. Following the instructions on AdobeTV and/or the help files in PST tells you to download a plugin AFTER signing in to the Cloud, but there is no download link as per the example. SO..... to get a PSDX file to open in PS CS6 do the following.
    1) Open the Adobe Application Manager
    2) Select the Touch Apps Plugins
    3) Allow it to download and install
    4) When complete open PS FROM the Windows START menu. You will think something is wrong because it will be minutes before it opens. Everything is ok it just takes a while for the plugin to register with PS CS6 the first time.
    5) You can now open PSDX files in PS CS6.
As for the usefulness of PST..eh I guess it's ok. Like most things related to Adobe Cloud Apps and Services it needs help. The one advantage I can see is that I do not need a seperate app to open a NEF file other than that..eh, I've seen better apps. With that said let's not forget that Adobe IS trying and will get better with time and money. Look at it this way, when PST first came out it only supported iPad then it was worked on to support Android 8.9" tablets now it works on 7" Androids. Eventually, it will be a lite version of PS where you can work on the file both in PS and on the go without having to save your layers as individual files and some other features and functions it currently lacks.
Stay with it Adobe eventually you'll have a superior product worth the $10 if not more. You can do it guys, I have confidence in you. You've come a long way since May, tech wise, it's just your marketing people that drive hype too much so that us loyal users have too high of an expectation.

  • InDesign CS5 (Mac OS 10.6) can not open its own file

I need guidance to open an artwork file that in one hour I have to send to the print shop. InDesign refuses to open its own file.
    Any clue? Adobe, please help.

Re: InDesign CS5 (Mac OS 10.6) can not open its own file
    Bob and Peter
Thank your for helping us out. It was really necessary to ask a coworker to open the file and export it in InDesign markup language.
Three hours later than expected, but it's done!
We are stuck here. I'm a Master Collection user of CS5, using only Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Bridge and Acrobat Pro. (I don't know why I bought the Master's). My coleague former Window user, got a Mac in May and downloaded the trial version of Design Studio Standard Collection of CS5.5. Before expiring, we purchased its license and filled it in the active trial version.
A couple of months ago we noticed that were missed Plug Ins on his version and contacted Adobe who instructed us to download the whole files again. We never did because it is a pain to get rid of the missing parts of a pre installed trial version etc.
I will ask Adobe to send a CD disk for his version.
    Regards,
    Junia

  • I can't open a 32-bit HDR file made with Photoshop HDR in Lightroom.

I can't open a 32-bit HDR file made with Photoshop HDR. I saved the file in Photoshop with the maximum compatibility-option on. In Lightroom the file doesn't show a preview and an exclamation mark in the upper right corner. Anybody an idea why and how to solve this problem?

As I said, the files must be saved in TIFF format in order for LR to recognize them.

In Photoshop CS5 I have updated my raw-update that was suggested by my updatebutton in my photoshop. But I still can not open my new camera srw-files from my samsung nx300.

You cannot open Raw files from the Samsung NX300 in CS5.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
You need Adobe Camera Raw 7.4 or later which is only compatible with CS6 or later.
    Some choices:
    Upgrade to CS6
    Join the Cloud
    Join the CCPP
Free option: download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all Raw files from the NX300 to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5

  • Linking Photoshop EPS Files with Clipping Paths

    I'm running InDesign CS4 6.0.3 on a dual 2GHz G5 with Mac OS X 10.5.7.
We have a workflow that involves Photoshop EPS files being placed in InDesign with the object's clipping path set to Photoshop Path.  If the link is updated or relinked, InDesign no longer restricts the image to the boundaries of the path—either on screen or on export to PDF—even though choosing Object -> Clipping Path -> Options still shows the type set to Photoshop Path.  The only way that I have found to get the clipping path to fully apply to the image is to change the type from Photoshop Path to None and back to Photoshop Path, all while the Preview check box is on.  I tried different combinations of turning the Apply Photoshop Clipping Path option on and off at the time of initial placement and at the time of relinking with no effect on this behavior.
Assuming that using a format other than EPS and using transparency rather than clipping paths are not in play at the moment, my questions are:
    1.  Is this a know issue with InDesign CS4?  If so, can we expect a fix soon?
    2.  Is there anything that can be done on the user side that is less cumbersome than the workaround described above?

    @Mark
Photoshop PSD is fine for all raster work. But if you have vector masks, vector shapes or text in the file then saving as PDF would be the better option, you can choose to remove the white background when importing the PDF in the Show Options of the Place Dialog box.
And that's null point anyway, as soon as you open a photoshop EPS file in Photoshop it rasterises everything. So what I said isn't a viable solution for this project. But to keep in mind that PSD will output as raster only and PDF can have transparency and raster + vector data.
Just thought I'd through that out there.

  • Applying a colour to a 1 bit photoshop eps file

    Hi everyone,
I've placed a 1 bit photoshop eps file into Illustrator and I'm trying to colour it. I tried selecting it and applying one of the colour swatches but nothing happens. I wondered if anyone could help me out?
    Thanks in advance.

    gwh,
Nothing magical happens just because you save a raster image in a format that may contain vector artwork. A raster image is a raster image is an Argh.
If you just want it to appear with another colour with the help of Illy (you can actually recolour in Photoshop), you may cheat, such as this way:
    1) Create a rectangle (at least) the size of the raster image with the desired (darkest) colour;
    2) Place the raster image on top of 1) and in the Transparency palette flyout click Make Opacity Mask, with Clip ticked (unless you want a frame) and with Invert Mask ticked (unless you want a negative).

  • Is it ok in the long run to placing a RGB photoshop eps file into a Illustrator CS2 CMYK color mode

Is it ok in the long run to placing a RGB photoshop eps file into a Illustrator CS2 CMYK color mode document ?
I am using windows XP with Adobe Creative suite 2.
In both Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2 have the same color settings.
If I take a RGB file that was created in Photoshop CS2 and place this file in a CMYK color mode document in Illustrator CS2, does this cause a problem for the output of the document ?
If you look at the ''Document Info'' window you can now see that the RGB file is now a CMYK file. Is this a good working habit ?
    Thanks in advance. :)

    >Is it ok in the long run to placing a RGB photoshop eps file into a Illustrator CS2 CMYK color mode document ?
Please explain why you would do such a thing? (Why RGB, and why EPS.)
    >If I take a RGB file that was created in Photoshop CS2 and place this file in a CMYK color mode document in Illustrator CS2, does this cause a problem for the output of the document ?
    Yes.
You are working in CMYK mode presumably because your Illustrator document is destined for output on a PostScript device -- e.g., a printing press. That means that your RGB image will undergo a space conversion somewhere in the process, and the questions are when and how?
The issue is compounded by the fact that Illustrator ignores color profiles embedded in EPS files by Photoshop. (Just another reason not to use EPS.)
By performing the conversion yourself in Photoshop, you take control of the process and ensure predictable color.

  • InDesign CS3 "White Box" when printing with linked Photoshop EPS files

This problem has been covered before, but never really resolved:
Robert Levine, "InDesign CS3 Erratic White Box Phenomenon with Placed Photoshop EPS files" #1, 1 Apr 2008 11:05 am
Now, I'm aware that we should no longer be using EPS files. I wholeheartedly agree. But until we can convince the department to change to another format (namely PSD or TIFF) for our vast library of images, I need a workaround.
It seems that setting the clipping path for each linked image to "Photoshop Clipping Path" resolves this issue. So I tried writing an AppleScript that would find each linked Photoshop EPS and set it's clipping path to "Photoshop clipping path", but it didn't work for me (my expertise with AppleScript is basically nil.)
Can anyone assist with the creation of this script? Or does anyone have a better suggestion for solving or working around the Photoshop EPS erratic white box printing problem?
    Thanks!

    >Why??????????
Because they've got zillions of EPS and have no time to resave them all and because it
    b should
work even if Buko doesn't like EPS...
(Your vendetta against EPS takes on strange proportions. Were you bitten as a child by a rabid EPS and have sworn to wipe them out? Must be an interesting story behind it ;) )
Brian, this script seems to do the job with one very important caveat: I see no way of finding out which path is active in the EPS (in case that more than one). So the script simply activates the first in the list.
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
    set aDoc to active document
set allLinks to links of aDoc
repeat with n from 1 to (count allLinks)
set aLink to item n of allLinks
if link type of aLink is "EPS" then
set anEPS to parent of aLink
       tell clipping path of anEPS
set ePaths to photoshop path names
if (count ePaths) > 0 then
set clipping type to photoshop path
set applied path name to item 1 of ePaths
        end if
       end tell
      end if
    end repeat
    end tell

  • Can't open vidoes on Photoshop?

I can't open vidoes in Photoshop CS4 Extended. When i import a quicktime file it says Movie cannot be opened. When i try to import a .mp4 file i get a message "Photoshop Stopped working" Whats going on why can't i import vidoes in to photoshop?

    Bill,
I've read the three or so pages on the subject of codec and wrappers. This
is way beyond what it should be. I have a colleague with a mac and cs4. and
does 'file, open, selects the .mov and they open.  I must change from ''all
readable documents'' to ''all documents''.  Even then , when I look at the
''format'' option, ''quicktime'' is not available. I have just fully
uninstalled  pcs4 including preferences, updated quicktime and reinstalled
ps4. unfortunately, I still have the same problem.
    2011/5/17 Bill Hunt <[email protected]>
What is the CODEC contained in the MOV "wrapper?" It could well be one that
PS-Extended cannot use, though you might have it properly installed on your
    Mac.
    >
For a little background, see this *
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037?tstart=0* on "wrappers," and then
    this http://forums.adobe.com/thread/546811?tstart=0 for background on
    CODEC's.
    >
I am puzzled why the MOV wrapper is not showing as a supported file format
in PS-Extended, and especially on your Mac. At that point, PS-Extended is
not yet looking inside the wrapper. You are not getting the linking to that
wrapper, and that is odd, at least to me. The issue with the contained CODEC
would surface, when PS-Extended tries to Import the AV file.

  • Placed rasterized photoshop .eps files dpi varies, why?

Placing an bitmapped .eps file from Photoshop, sometimes the file comes in at the dpi it was saved at, (say, 1.25 inches wide and 1200 dpi) and sometimes at 72 dpi (and a couple of feet wide).
Is there something the creator of the .eps file has set in photoshop that is causing Illustrator to interpret the incomoing dpi?
I realize a 1.25 inch 1200 dpi file has the same information as a 26+ inch 72 dpi file, but it causes an extra key stroke (a recorded action to resize the placed file).  Not all the time, just some times.
Not a big deal, but I wonder why.
I open the customer's .eps file in Illustrator and it opens at 72dpi/26 inches.
I open the customer's .eps file in photosohp, hit "save" and open it in Illustrator at 1200dpi./1.25 inches.
Is there a setting in photoshop (or Illustrator) that is causing this?

The files are not coming from me, so I don't actually have control.
Basically I have to reach out and grab .eps files from a number of different users, and was wondering if they had some sort of setting causing this.
For instance, I take one the miscreant .eps files that opens at 72dip, re-save it, and it opens at 1200 dpi.
So I'm gussing there is some sort of tag in photoshop (or perhaps something to do with the precise build being used).
Not a big deal, but is has aroused my curorsity.

How do i open sites that require adobe flash? I can't open my own website, not to mention tons of other sites.  It's ridiculous.

Flash is not supported on the iPad and never has been supported on any iOS device - and as Adobe have never managed to make a version of their flash player that works on iOS devices, and they have recently announced that they are stopping development on all mobile versions of it, it probably never will be.
