Can't open RAW files with new camera ?

Hi
I've bought a new camera, a Canon EOS 550D. I use Photoshop Elements 8 and suddenly cannot open RAW files as I did with my EOS 400D
Help please?
Thanks
Eiona

Hi
Many thanks. I'd kind of sussed it was a plug-in issue so downloaded what appeared to be the relevant one from the links - unfortuntely still can't open them.

  • Cannot open RAW file with new camera

I just purchased a Nikon D610 that I use to shoot RAW files. When I inserted the SDHC card in my Mac, I got a message that "Photoshop cannot open this file. If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw update installed via Help>Updates..." This is the first time I've had this problem. With my former Nikon D600, the RAW files opened right away with no problems. I installed Adobe Camera Raw 6.7 and DNG Convertor 8.6, but it still doesn't work.

I've got some good news and some bad news.
The bad news is the D610 is supported in Camera Raw but you need a minimum of version 8.3 for it to work out-of-the-box. I know CC works with updates; I believe CS6 does too w/ updates. If you have anything earlier than that you need to upgrade.
The good news is that the D610 is supported in DNG Converter since version 8.3 but I don't know why it's not working for you. What's happening when you go to convert? Same error message?

  • I can't open RAW files from new Sony Alpha a6000 camera in PSE 11 camera raw editor. Is there an update that will allow me to do this or do I need to always use DNG convertor?

I can't open RAW files from new Sony Alpha a6000 camera in PSE 11 camera raw editor. Is there an update that will allow me to do this or do I need to always use DNG convertor?

You would need to update to PSE 12, or just keep using the DNG converter. Your camera requires ACR 8.4, which isn't compatible with PSE 11. It's also not compatible with PSE 12 if you are running Vista or XP.

  • How can I open RAW files with PSE 12 from Olympus o-md e-m 10?

How cam I open RAW files ? I use PSE 12, the Olympus om-d em 10 and windows 7.

Photoshop Elements 12 should be able to recognise raw files from the OM-D E-M10.
Check which camera raw you currently have by loading the editor, going to the Help menu and selecting About plug-in -> Camera Raw
If it not at version 8.5 then go to the Help menu and select Updates

  • Cannot open RAW files from new camera

I downloaded the first batch of photos from my new D7100 camera.  I have downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw.  But I cannot view the RAW files in Bridge or open them in PS5.  PC based.

The latest version of ACR can not be use with old version of Photoshop like CS5.  You need to use the latest DNG converter  to create DNG versions of your D71000 RAW files.  And use the latest ACR version CS5 supports to create RGB image by converting the DNG files you generated for your Camera's RAW files.

  • Using PS CS5.  Cannot open Raw files with new Canon EOS 5D Mark III.  Works fine with Mark II.  Any answers?

    Current camera raw is 6.6.

Support for the 5D Mark III was added in ACR 6.7:
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update

  • I have downloaded Adobe camera raw 8.4 so that I can open raw files with pictures taken with the Sony a6000 camera.  However it is not opening the images in camera raw.  What can I do?

Close and restart Photoshop if you have not already done so.
In Photoshop, go to the Help - About Plug-in... menu then choose Camera Raw.  What version does it say there?

Raw support for new cameras is version specific. You will have to upgrade/ sign up for CC or use the free DNG converter.

The D800E is definitely supported in Camera Raw 7.1 which is compatible with CS6.
Which version of Camera Raw are you running?
Win: Help > About Plug-In > Camera Raw
Mac: Photoshop > About Plug-In > Camera Raw
If you're already on 7.1, what exactly happens when you try to open Raw files from that camera?

  • Nikon D7200 and can not open RAW files.  Error msg says camera isn't supported.  Using PSElements 12

I recently purchased a Nikon D7200 and I can not open RAW files.  I get error messages indicating camera isn't supported.  I've downloaded RAW 9.0 but no luck.  I'm running PSElements 12.  Any suggestions?  Is the camera too new for Adobe?

  • Can't open raw files from a supported camera

Hi.  I just uninstalled pse 12, installed pse 13 and ran all updates.  I still can't open raw files from my Nikon D5200, which is a supported model.  It works on a Vista system I have with pse 12, so it definitely isn't the camera.  Any ideas?

The D5200 has been supported since midway through PSE11’s life, so PSE12 and PSE13 should work ok.
I’d suspect that the NEFs have been touched by Nikon software which can rendering them unrecognizable to Adobe products.  You can test for this by using Explorer to copy a newly shot raw file from your memory card to the computer and then see if that will open, making sure no Nikon software has viewed it or been involved in the copy process.
If the files are corrupted, then a utility from here can reverse it:

You can't directly but can use DNG Converter to convert your files so ACR can read and process them.

  • I can open RAW files from my camera in photoshop cs5, but they dont save properly after editing

I can open RAW files from my camera in photoshop, but then after I have edited, i save as .raw, and open up the newly saved file and it just comes up as a grey messed up picture.  What am I doing wrong?

Yes, it is preferable to do as much editing on the raw files as you can including global and local tone & color correction in Camera Raw...but there is a limit to the work you can do and sometimes you must go ahead and render the raw file into Photoshop for additional work. Then you'll be needing layers and other functionality that can't be done on a raw file. At that point you'll need to save as a TIFF or PSD. If you work in 16 bit and a large enough color space, the TIFF or PSDs will still be capable of the highest quality...as others have indicated, the Photoshop .raw file format ain't for photography per se.
