Can't play rented movies.  They appear to download OK and the timer accurately reports days remaining to watch.  But whenever I try to play the movie I get this message, "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later."

Can't play rented movies.  They appear to download OK and the timer accurately reports days remaining to watch.  But whenever I try to play the movie I get this message, "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later.". Have been using the Apple TV for 2 weeks and everything else seems to work OK.  The Apple TV reports its SW is up to date.  I've tried this with two movies rented frim iTunes directly from the Apple TV.

If after you download the movie, you navigate away and do something else with your Apple TV the content you have downloaded will be overwritten and you'll need to download it again. It's a pain in the neck for many who have slow downloads but it's something that comes with using volatile memory rather than a hard drive for storage.
Perhaps you're not doing this, but I thought it worth mentioning.

I have the same issue, to temporarily fix it go to Settings > General > Restart.  When it restarts the movie should play.  You have to do this for each movie for the most part.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
This sometimes resolved by unplugging the Apple TV for a few moments and trying again, others have found restarting the router may help. Another reason that message can occur is when the download speed is extremely slow, have you tested your Internet download speed with speediest.net.

Firstly, I should have typed speedtest.net previously.
Now that's an interesting comment you make, out of interest do you have any purchased HD movies in your iTunes collection, if so, do they play on the Apple TV with your new tv.

First, try a system reset on the iPod.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If that doesn't work, reset the Apple TV.  I'm not at mine right now and I'm talking from memory but the reset is somewhere in the Settings menu.

  • Error message:"An error occurred loading this content"

I have been having problems renting movies on Apple TV. On Sunday evening February 17th I tried to rent "Hotel Transylvania". I went through the steps to rent a movie, i pushed play and watched Apple TV loading the movie and after approx 2 min a "An error occurred loading this content". I went through the same steps 3 more times with the same error. I decided to rent another movie instead. I was able to rent "Flight" and started to watch the movie. At the 17 minute mark of the movie, the movie quit playing. I tried everything to get the movie to play beyond the 17 minute mark but wouldn't work. I went through the steps to upgrade the Apple TV software but neither movie would play after the software upgrade. I tried to play the movies again on Monday February 18th and the 19th with no luck. I did a General>Reset>Reset All Settings, and still not able to get past the 17 minute mark in the movie "Flight" and "Hotel Transylvania" wont play. I am able to watch the movies i have purchased in the past. ie Slap Shot. I can also watch movies on Netflix. I have 2 hours left to watch the "Flight"
movie but can't get it to work.

apps have to support airplay and or airplay mirror for it to work

apple tv error:  an error occured loading this content

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

  • My iPad will happily AirPlay content from bbc iplayer but not when the chosen programme comes from downloads.I keep getting message"an error occurred loading this content" Any ideas.

    Any ideas

I'm seeing the same and I agree, it's very annoying. You can at least get around it in both situations by turning on Mirroring from the Airplay menu (after double-tapping the Home button). Hopefully the iPlayer app will be updated soon to fix this. I'm assuming it's an oversight at the moment.

  • Apple tv is not working: "an error occurred loading this content. Try again later".  Any idea?

My apple tv is not working.  I have rented 4 movies and I cannot open any of them.  My Apple TV is located in USA.  Anywy I am traveling at the moment outside US, but cannot watch my rented movies.  I get the following error message: "an error occurred loading this content. Try again later".  Any idea?  What is the solution for this issue?

I have 4-5 mbps for Downloads.  It works fine when opening websites and downloading large files from the Internet.  I have set-up my IP to "automatically" as you suggested, even though I believe this was the default setting.
I changed the resolution in Settings > Itunes Store > Video Resolution from 1080p to 720p.  Then I rented again "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen", (but now using HD 720p) and I get exactly the same error.
Then I changed it to Standard Definition and now is working.  Basically what I have found out is that if I rent movies in HD 1080p or HD 720p it will simply not work.
I believe 4-5 mbps is very fast internet connection, so the errors above should not be appearing.
Feedback for Apple TV developers is to show estimated time for full downloads when using 1080p or 720p so the user can understand what is going on. Very frustrating as I just bought the Apple TV for watching HD movies. I have a 55" HD Sony Bravia tv ready to be used... !!!

  • Purchased a movie.  Trying to watch it through Apple TV.    Receiving error "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later."  I have tried to play the movie several times but still get the same message.

I purchased a movie using Apple TV.  I keep receiving the same error message "An error occurred loading this content"

There may be network issues or issues with Apple's servers.
Personally I would unplug and restart AppleTV.  If there are still problems and you can access the iTunes store sections to browse I would contact itunes store support.

  • HT204291 an error occurred loading this content

Help - I'm in Singapore trying to play previously downloaded Bbc I player content through my apple tv. However I connect, ipad3 iPad 1, iPhone 4s and iPhone 5, whenever I click the airplay icon and select apple tv, I get the message "an error occurred loading this content apple tv iplayer please try later"
All the above devices work with AirPlay when I stream music or video, just I player that doesn't work. Same message every time regardless of the device. I've tried turning the apple tv off, restarting it and resetting it. The same with the various iPads and iPhones, shutting down all apps, restarting. Unloadeding and reloading I player, making sure its updated blah blah blah. Still doesn't work. As I live in a high rise I may find a use for the blasted useless (given the only reason I bought it) apple tv unit and lob it out the window!
I can see this has been an issue for many people after a short google search - however, have any of the multi billionaire brains at either apple or the Bbc actually fixed it? Frankly, when you buy a streaming device that doesn't stream, it's rather useless!
    HELP ANYONE?

    Hi Everyone,
hope this message finds you all in time. The recent Apple TV update 5.1 is terrible. Apple knows it is which is why (thankfully for some relentless user -I have no idea who but I believe it was under threat) they have allowed to sign 5.0.2 again which means you can downgrade your Apple TV 2 and 3 to a 5.0.2 version via iTunes. Who knows how long they will keep the window open but I have downgraded my ATV early this morning. I couldn't post this earlier because I was out all day but I am doing it now.
    Here's how to do it:
    1) Connect your ATV to your computer via a Mini USB (not included with ATV but included with many other electronic devices) - in order for your ATV to appear in iTunes you must FIRST plug the USB cable to your computer and ATV and only THEN plug the power cable.
    2) Download your ipsw restore file from Apple.
    5.0.2 (ATV 2): AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
    5.0.2 (ATV 3): AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
    3) In iTunes select yout ATV, hold SHIFT and click on Restore
    4) Find and choose the downloaded IPSW file in the Open Dialog Box and hit Next
    5) As long as Apple still signs that version the Restore process will begin and will take a few minutes to complete.
    Enjoy!

  • Apple tv "an error occured loading this content"

My Apple TV (2) was working fine for a year. But now when I try to watch one of my movies from iTunes, the movie looks like it wants to start playing for about 5 seconds and then I only get the message "an error occured loading this content. Try again later." And then nothing in Apple TV works, including my remote control.
Can someone help me with this problem? Thank you.

Is the computer set to sleep, is the video available to play in iTunes.
This spurious error often used to mean iTunes couldn't find teh content ecen though there was an entry for it in the library (item manually deleted, file on a powered down or disconnected external drive....).

  • I get "An error occurred loading this content" when trying to use AirPlay with some iPhone videos

When trying to stream video via Home Sharing AirPlay from the Horse Racing Now iPhone app or TwinSpires mobile site to my new third generation Apple TV, I get the error message
An error occurred loading this content
    Try again later.
The Apple TV seems to be playing everything else fine though. And I verified that the video is working on both sites. Any idea what's happening?

  • Apple TV reading "An error occurred loading this content"

I have an Apple TV 3rd Generation and have been experiencing issues trying to playback purchased movies from iTunes.  Playback from Netflix works fine and I've run the Network Test option on the Apple TV and it passed.  I've already tried the following corrective steps:
    1.  Soft reset of Apple TV (holding down Menu and down arrow)
    2.  Power cycle on Apple TV
    3.  Power cycle on Wireless Router
    4.  Reset of Wireless Router
    5. Confirmed latest firmware was installed
None of the above steps worked. I either get the error message "An error occurred loading this content" or the Apple TV shows a absurdly long load time (i.e. 2 hours or greater)  I've tested the download speed of my internet connection and it's fine (about 15 mbps and streaming content from Netflix via Apple TV works)  Anyone else encounter a similar issue?  If yes, any suggestions on how to resolve.
    Thanks

I get the same response and I rented two different movies  1st thinking that the Kings Speech was just over sold. So Rented and paid for a second movie.  So I tried something else I and get the same error message and I have been trying to get the movie to download.
I have been at this for about three hours.
"An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later."
    Not good!
    How about fixing this Apple?
