Can't Re-attach thunderbolt stand

I have removed the stand from my Thunderbolt monitor to place a touch overlay device on the sceen (needed to lay the screen flat facing up to attach the overlay)
Now I am trying to re-attach the stand and the flange that holds the torx screws has gone back inside the monitor. It seems to be locked in the "closed" position at this point.
I can release the latch at the top with a credit card but the flange doesn't come back out. I can't figure out how to get the flange that the torx screws screw into exposed again so I can re-attach the stand.
Any help? I see several other people with this question on the web but no answers. It seems the flange locks in two positions "open" which exposes the screw holes and "closed" where mine is stuck now.
Thanks

Yeah it was incredibly hard to move. There was no way I was going to move it without taking apart the diplay.
I took it to an apple store for support and they gave me no help. It was the first time I have been throughly angry by apple support. I would have expected more from them.
They claimed that removing the stand is a non-standard use of the montior which invalidates the warranty and wanted to charge me $250 to try and fix the problem. They would have needed the display for 3 - 5 days and couldn't explain to me how they were actually going to fix it....
Awful customer service imo.
So I fixed it myself. I found this explaination on ifixit of how to take apart the screen http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Apple+Thunderbolt+Display+Teardown/6525/1
I went to home depot and purchased two heavy duty suction cups (these: http://www.homedepot.com/p/QEP-4-7-8-in-Suction-Cup-for-Handling-Large-Non-Porou s-Tile-75000Q/100119050#.UZG_7CtAR90)
Within 10 mins I had the display opened. I was then able to fit the stand through the opening in the back of the display and screw in two screws to secure the stand. (I screwed them in from the inside of the display.
Then I could relase the latch and move the flange using the stand (since it was attached with the two screws)
The whole process from opening the display to closing it back up took 20 mins. This should have been incredibly easy for the Apple store to do I am sure seeing as how they open these types of screens (iMac screens work the same way) often I would think.
Anyways, hope this helps someon else that is stuck in the same place I was.
Note: that opening the display voids your warranty (howver, Apple claims that taking the stand off of mine voided my warranty already so.....)

my macbook pro goes to sleep by it does not wake up afterwards. I have to restart it. I had recently to change the board in the attached Thunderbolt display, because I noticed that the same problem arose when the display was attached.
Now with the new board, it can't be the display's fault. I hope it is not macbook pro's main board fault. Maybe hasthe notebook board been damaged by the faulty display?
To bring my MacBook Pro to service will slow down my work. This is why I am posting this message, in the hope to be able to run a diagnostic test myself.
    Thanks a lot, in advance.

    Hello Aminetti,
It sounds like your computer goes to sleep, and will not wake up, so you must manually restart your computer. I recommend the troubleshooting in the following article:

  • Has any one managed to re-attach the stand after using the VESA adaptor?

I have just bought a 27-inch replacement for my 24 inch LED display and wanted to swap them over, using the 24" as an external for my MacBook Pro. The 24" was wall mounted and I had a VESA adaptor fitted. I took the 24" off and replaced with the 27" (looks great), but now I am unable to re-attach the 24" stand in a usable manner. The arm, which you are required to pull out and lock when you fit the adaptor, will not return into the back of the monitor: it remains locked and I have been unable to unlock it. The screen is therefore stuck in a fully forward position, meaning the only way I can use it is by kneeling on the floor in front of the desk. Not ideal.
Has anyone managed to successfully re-fit the stand to an LED Cinema Display, and if so was there a "trick" to it?

How to reattach stand to 27" iMac (2009)
    I learnt the following;
    1. Plan carefully - read the advise discussions on this Apple forum. It's a 2 x person job in places.
    2. Tools - ensure you have the correct Torx screw driver or Allen key before you start as I learnt the hard way that
it is very very easy to round off the heads of the 8 x tiny little screws that attach the stand back onto the iMac.
    3. If the screws don't come out easily you have a problem - After hours of trying I managed to get 6 of the 8
screws out - the other 2 I had to get a power drill and drill them through - lesson here is don't over tighten the screws
when you put them back in.
4 Don't worry if you do not have all 8 screws to put back in - I had 6 good ones left after the efforts to remove them
and this works fine as with most Apple things it is a slightly over engineered product.
    5. Make sure you lay the iMac face down onto a blanket once removed from VESA arm.
    6. Little tip - Once I had removed 4 of the screws I put wooden cocktail sticks into some the holes as I had read
in these forums that some "iMackers" had problems as the 8 x screw block had recessed back into the iMac itself.
If this happens it's very difficult to pull back out - hence the cocktail sticks to prevent this from happening.
    7. Use a second person to hold the stand in place while you put the screws back into the iMac. (as stated don't over tighten them)
    8. Now to release the latch to ensure the iMac tilt action works as designed. Be patient here especially with utilising the plastic card that came with the Visa mount which is optimised for this job - if you don't have one use a plain unbossed card. Recommend push the iMac fully forward and turn the lights down - then use a torch and shine into the area where the latch is - carefully insert card about 3/4 inch and release the latch - you can feel it release when successful - if you look carefully into the recess area with your torch on you can just about see it - second person helps here:)
    9. Once latch is released by person one the second person slowly rotates the tilt action back and then forward throughout the full range of the iMac tilt action and hopefully that is you done:)
Overall - Not easy - frustrating at times - screws are a pain - plan carefully - have the right tool for the 8 x screws is a must - torch helps to find the release latch - to Apple I would say that the screws are not the best and of poor engineering quality which is unusual for you!
    Hope this helps.
    Kind Regards Alasdair.

  • Re-attach iMac stand after VESA mount

I've had my 24 iMac mounted with the VESA Mount kit. Now I need to re-attach the stand. I've tried following the instructions backwards, but when I get to the part with the access card, I can't get it to work. I'm afraid to use a lot of force, because I don't want to break something. I've had no luck googling this.
    Any clues?
    Thansk in advance.

Hi, I had same problem when I decided to replace my stand on 24in white Apple, after a lot of cursing I found that after replacing the screws etc you now have to place more pressure on the stand by pushing downwards before sliding the card in, I am assuming that you have the face of the computer laying face down on a soft cloth, give it a try, Robin u/k.

Why can I not attach a document to an email? Every time I want to send an email with a document attached to it, an error notice pops out. It tells me that the file is being used even when  iall other programs are closed. How can I fix this issue?

Thanks Jeff, I was not aware that a template could be multi-page.  (All the existing templates were 1 page)
But it worked, saving me some steps.  When I was finished I renamed the document, and locked it.
Then tried to save it but  could not because it was locked.  I closed it, went to my Spread Sheet Folder ,
to find it, it was not there.  The Finder could not find it either.
    So I start over again.
I opened up Numbers and it showed my personal Numbers template folder, it contained both my new
original 4 page template and the vanished saved document!
I tried to delete the template containing these document data and could not - I had to go to the Library/Application Support/Numbers to physically remove it from this folder. Then I started over again.  I Finally found out how to make it work: I can now "save as", and then lock, and it will go to place where I want it to be saved and locked.
The secret is: Click on the document title in the menu bar, and it opens up  "Save as...", which works the same as in OS 10.4.11, and you can pick the place you want for saving.  Once done that, you can then lock the document in the same pull down menu, and then close it.
I also found later that I can delete a template from its folder, by letting Numbers open the templates,
clicking on the one I want to remove, then go to the "Numbers Menu/File/Move to...", select "Desktop"
and from there the selected template can then be thrown into the Trash from there.
It appears now that the real fault of the Numbers software is that the "Save as" command is not available in the "Edit" or "File" pull-down menus, but hidden behind the title of the document.

  • I can no longer attach files to my outgoing Hotmail emails.  I only receive a message that an  error has occurred. Help appreciated.

I can no longer attach files to my outgoing Hotmail emails.  I only receive a message where I would expect the Upload to appear that an  error has occurred.
I am using a MacBook Pro with Retina, 2 Ghz Intel Core i7, OS X 10.9.4
I have no difficulty attaching files to the outgoing Hotmails on the same account using my iPhone.
    Help appreciated.

Thanks for this - not an immediate solution I fear but will keep unplugging stuff and restarting stuff.
To try and be clearer about the problem - I have in the last managed to send attachments successfully.  Now  I can send and receive plain email messages but get the error message when I try to attach an existing file to an email - not just a particular file but it would appear all files are being treated in the same way.
An experiment to send a mail to which an attachment has failed to upload got the following message alongside the SEND button
Files with errors will be removed from the email and not sent.
    - but the mail alone was sent and received successfully.  Thanks for any pointers you can give me.

I can no longer open excel documents in my doc to go app. Error message simple reads can not open attachment. And the attachment is now a winmail.dat

winmail.dat files usually mean the email has been sent in rich text format - you could either the person who sent it to send it in a different format e.g. plain text or HTML, or there are a few apps in the store that support it (search for winmail.date in the store).

Did you try to hook up both monitors to the Belkin adaptor? Trying will determine if your monitor has a bad input port. See if the Belkin adaptor is the problem. I have never used that specific adaptor, but I have always had luck with the Dr. Bott's DVI for ADC adaptor. Best of luck.

Is there a format for a file that I can use for attaching a one page document with photos embedded that will open in everyone's email automatically?   I've tried PDF and Word, but PDF worked only in Mail.  Word worked in nothing.  I also tried copying and pasting the document but lost all formatting when just copied and pasted in email.  Is there a way to do this?

Are you sure PDF won't work? It should as what you're trying to do is pretty much what it is designed for (PDF - Portable Document Format). On a Mac anywone who receives the file should be able to see it in all its page layout glory by using the app Preview or Adobe Reader. Same on a PC, the file should be viewable as a PDF file using Adobe Reader and probably some other viewer (don't use PCs so not sure what other apps).
What application are you creating the file in and are you sure you're exporting it correctly in PDF format, fonts and images embedded?

  • HT5219 Can some one please help me clarify if I can set up two thunderbolts as split screens to my Macbook pro 15" (October 2011)? Thanks

There is a lot of different answers to this on the internet but all different. The Luxembourg Apple retailers are not able to give a real answer either.
Please don't answer too technical as I am no IT expert.

  • How can I manually attach images from my photo booth (imported into iPhoto) to emails? Auto function, in photo booth has my photos lying sideways?

How can I manually attach images from my photo booth to iCloud emails?
They are imported as 'events' into my iphoto library.
Auto function, in photo booth has my photos lying sideways when placed in 'mail' emails?

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
