Can't remove start up program

Hi.
I just found out that the app Extensis Suitcase X1 appears in my account as a start up program. The url for the app points to a DVD I no longer own and I'm not able to remove this from that panel.
Is there another way to do that?
Thanks in advance.

This entry is stored in a plist file here-
/Users/youruser/Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist
This plist is an xml file with entries relating to startup items needed by the user account.
You can edit the file in a text editor (harder) or use a plist editing program to remove the entry for Suitcase.
Apple provide a free plist editing program that installs as part of Xcode or you can try this one-

  • Can't remove automatic opening program

When I want to remove a program from the list of programs that automatically open when my MacBook Pro starts up, there is a specific program that I can't remove of the list.
Strange is that Sophos is even installed anymore on my laptop. So normally it is possible to remove it by selecting it and clicking on the - , but here the - is grey and can't be selected.
Has anybody an idea how I could remove it?
    Thanks

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other solved threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • I can't remove a spyware program from my Thinkpad G40, even after using the factory reinstall

    Hello,
Is it me or is this in German?  I recently discovered a spy-ware program that had escaped detection for months.  When I tried to remove it  critical files disappeared.  I am running Windows XP pro.  I also found a program Supportable Agent-en which I could not uninstall.  I did find a way to erase some of the programs files, but the, you guessed it, windows would not load.  I followed the instructions for returning the O.S. to factory condition, which is supposed to erase the hard drive, but when the process was done the program was still there.  I attempted the reinstall several times and observed that right at the end of the program installment phase, Support.com  unzipped and installed itself.  Of course I am not able to load any virus removal software.  Can anyone explain what is happening and if there is anything that I can do to fix it?  Thank you, Scott

You can follow this method if you have the recovery cds with you.Use Lenovo's secure data disposal and wipe the entire HDD clean, then use your discs to restore to the default factory settings.

  • Can I remove these Toshiba programs from my NB305?

Like many other people, I've been disappointed with the molasses-slow behavior of my NB305 netbook.  It's slow in every respect: startup, shutdown, opening programs, running programs, etc.  Everything takes much longer than it should.  I know that the underpowered processor is the main culprit, and there's not much I can do about that.  Adding memory did not help at all.  I'm trying to figure out whether I can improve performance even a little by getting rid of all or most of the programs Toshiba loaded on to this underpowered paperweight.  In particular, I'm wondering  which programs I need to keep, if any.  I don't want to get rid of something I truly need, but I suspect that most of the following don't fall into that category (the list comes from Revo Uninstaller's list of installed programs):
    TOSHIBA Assist
    TOSHIBA ConfigFree
    TOSHIBA eco Utility
    TOSHIBA Flash Cards Support Utility
    TOSHIBA Hardware Setup
    TOSHIBA HDD Protection
    TOSHIBA SSD Alert
    TOSHIBA Media Controller
    TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor
    TOSHIBA Quality Application
    TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator
    TOSHIBA ReelTime
    TOSHIBA Supervisor Password
TOSHIBA USB Sleep and Charge Utility
    TOSHIBA Value Added Package
    TOSHIBA Web Camera Application
Thanks in advance for your help.

THIS Support Bulletin explains what they are all for.  You decide but definitely listen to Peter's advice.

  • Can we remove Start Private Browsing from Tool list, but use Ctlr + Shift + P instead?

Is it possible to move the word "Start Private Browsing" from the Tool List because it can create suspect or accuse to use it, I prefer to have it dissect like using the keyboard (use Ctlr + Shift + P) to start private browsing.

You can modify the appearance of Firefox via two customization files.
The customization files userChrome.css for the user interface and userContent.css for websites are located in the chrome folder in the user profile folder, but aren't there by default.<br />
You may need to create the <b>chrome</b> folder and the <b>userChrome.css</b> (the names are case sensitive).<br />
Make sure to use a plain text editor like Notepad.exe and make sure to have all files selected when you save the file as userChrome.css to avoid that the editor appends a .txt file extension (userChrome.css.txt).

sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServi ces.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -f -dump -domain local -domain system -domain user
press "enter" and typed my password and pressed "enter" waited a few seconds it did something a whole list of stuff and I closed the terminal and restarted my MAC and I still see the same list of apps when i click file OPEN WITH....
Im not sure why it's not doing what it's supposed to do, could I be doing (or missing something) wrong? - appreciate your help.

  • Can I remove just Entourage & Messenger?

I just installed Office 2008 for Mac. I was hoping it would allow me to custom install because I don't want Messenger or Entourage on this Mac, but I did not see any such option.
Can I remove these two programs without adverse effect? And if so, how do I uninstall them?
    Thanks!
    Daisy

You have to uninstall it all, then re-install just the apps you want. There's a "Customize" button at the bottom of the dialog before the last step of the installer where you can choose which packages to install.
I should mention that removing Entourage didn't remove [what I thought was] it's calendar reminder thing; the atrocious purple pop up. iCal now properly handles all of my calendar stuff but I haven't found a way to stop the MS reminders.

  • 5.0 and 6.0 became entngle, and neithr will start. How can I remove all traces of Firefox and do a "clean" reinstall? Mozilla dosn't appear in Add/Remove Programs, and the uninstaller must've left something behind...

I tried deleting the Firefox folder as well, but after reinstalling Firefox 6.0, I continue to get a Run error message saying essentially that 5.0 & 6.0 aren't compatible. So, how can I remove all versions from all locations and start fresh?

If you are using a Mac, simply hit Command-Spacebar to bring up Spotlight Search.  Begin typing the name of the application and when you see what you are looking for, press enter.  You should get a hit by the second or third letter you type.  Great way to launch apps on computers that you are not familiar with.
Windows 7 and 8 should have something similar.  I think you simply press the Windows key and begin typing.  Press enter when you see a match.
Both Mac and Windows search tools can be customized to search for applications, files, emails and so forth.  For Windows, look for Taskbar and Start Menu Properties.  For Mac, go to Preferences Spotlight.  Turn off items you know you won't need to speed up searches.

I stopped in to see one of the genius at the local store who referred me to "Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable" (I am trying to install it on a Windows XP System)
The last version on iTunes on my PC was iTunes 7.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • I can not upgrade from 10.2 to 10.6 because of missing "itunes.msi" file.  How do I repair it? I can not remove itunes and start over.

I can not upgrade from 10.2 to 10.6 because of missing "itunes.msi" file.  I can not delete ITunes and start over either.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
