Can't restore my iPhone 4. Please help me fix it!
Hello! This is my first post in the Apple community forum so if I mess up somehow please, just bear with me.
So, yesterday (1-11-12) I woke up with my iPhone 4 working perfectly fine, no problems whatsoever. I use it a couple of times during the day, but at about 3:40-ish, when I get out of school, I look at my phone and it won't turn on at all. Tried a soft reset, nope, no luck. The screen won't even turn on. I get home and plug it into a wall charger and the screen comes on with the Apple logo. I'm all excited thinking that I had gotten it to work. Nope again. The screen loads acting as though it had been restored completely. It shows this: http://imgur.com/qWFky with a little information button above the unlock switch (much like this one but with no text or buttons: http://imgur.com/3WOXD ) and when clicked it shows a blank alert box. Nothing in it at all. When I scroll to unlock it asks for a passcode. What??? I thought it had just been restored somehow. Oh well. I put in my passcode from before and it works...? Huh, weird. It comes to a screen that looks like this: http://imgur.com/eiJ9f Well.... uhh... ok then. I unplug it from the wall and it automatically shuts off. Completely. Plug it into my computer (MacBook pro 13", mid-2010) and pull up iTunes and it won't even recognize it, BUT the iPhone's screen shows the Apple logo like it's starting up, and then it shuts off, and then Apple logo, and off, again and again. But, ok here's where things get even more odd. I decide to do a manual hard reset and put it into recovery mode. Do that, it works, shows Apple logo and then this screen: http://imgur.com/pFsoz Connect it to iTunes, and YES! It's recognized! Of course it's only recognized as an iPhone in recovery mode, but that means I can at least restore it from a backup, right? .... Right? Well, no, it's not right. Press the Restore button on the Summary screen and: http://imgur.com/90mgx Then on the phone the screen flickers once and restarts. iTunes gives me "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. Unknown error. (2001 [or 2006])." And there is no changing it. No matter how many times I do a hard reset and put it in recovery mode it just will not work.
I have Applecare protection on it and have already filed a manual service request, but I would prefer not to send it in if at all possible. I already sent it in once over my winter break to get the battery replaced. It was failing on me, and not holding a charge. I'm beginning to think that the service done on it might have something to do with my current problems. Anyways, if anybody has any help or previous knowledge with a situation like this in any way or at all similar to this, it would be very greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Verify that access to ports 80 and 443 are allowed on your network.
Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or phobos.apple.com isn't blocked by a firewall or other Internet security setting.
Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps under "Advanced steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw)" below for file locations.
Restore your device while connected to a different network.
Restore using a different computer.

I have exactly the same issue as described above : I installed the update 5.1.1 on my iphone 3GS and since then, I can not turn it on anymore. In Itunes, I get an error 37 when I am doing a restauration and it stops.
This error has nothing to do with firewall : I tried to restore the phone on several computers, including in an Apple reseller and it did not work anywhere.
I spent several hours on phone with the hotline from Apple which arrived to the conclusion that it is a hardware issue, but the phone was working perfectly fine until I installed this update! -

when i try to back up to icloud i get a meesage saying that "the backup could not be completed" and even when i try to backup to my mac I get an error message and can't backup. I already had a reset of all my settings, but I have no clue what to do next and it... Anyone has any idea of What to do to fix this??

Can't restore a catalog. Please help!!!!!!
Hi all! If anyone could help me I would so appreciate it.
The situation is that my motherboard is fried on my old laptop; however, I luckily did a full backup to an external hard drive less than a month ago (I could deal with replicating my photoshop efforts for a two week or so period but not for the years of effort that I have put into my catalog of thousands of photos).
My old laptop used Vista and my new laptop is running Windows 7.
I restored all of my files from the external drive to my new laptop and after much searching and research, I finally found the Photoshop Elements 9 (PSE9) catalog file pse9db.
I installed PSE9 onto the new laptop and when I go to do a restore, the pse9db doesn't show up when I browse for the file. I believe that is because it is searching for a tally (.tly) extension and the .pse9db extension doesn't fit the bill. I never backed up my catalog through photoshop since I foolishly didn't realize that it didn't mean a backup of all my pictures (which I now know). I didn't do the photoshop backup since I backed up my computer files fairly regularly.
So, my catalog is not in the .tly format due to backing it up during regular computer backups rather than using the Photoshop backup tool.
How can I get photoshop to allow my pse9db file to be restored so that I have my catalog back in place?????
I have spent many hours trying to figure this out and I would so appreciate any help!!! I am beyond frustrated at this point.

You should be able to put the old hard drive in an enclosure. Just make sure you are very careful so you don't zap the hard drive. You may want to read up on some static prevention proceedures.
Also, this is only assuming the hard drive was not also zapped. There is a good chance the power supplie fried other components if it fried the mother board. The thing you don't want to have happen is for a zapped hard drive to damage your new/fixed computer and specifically the new computer USB port.
How did you make your backup of the original computer? What software did you use? Is there any way to search the backup for additional catalog files.
I am realizing that you are all right about it being an empty catalog file. I looked through my external hard drive's backup file by file and it seems that the pse9db file doesn't exist there. I must have found that file on my new computer after I installed PSE 9 (not necessarily when I restored the external drive's files to the new laptop). It must just be the file created upon installation of the software.
I looked through other backup dates sitting on my external drive and still don't see any pse catalog files (the older backups would have had PSE 6, but still couldn't find any).
My only hope is that my old hard drive isn't fried or I have wasted hundreds of hours cataloguing family holidays, family vacations, BBQs, get-togethers with friends, parties, etc. over several years. That thought is enough to make me ill.
With respect to backup types, I must have done different ones. My most recent was through Norton and it looks as though it didn't back up much of anything that wasn't in my user files.
An older backup from July must have been done using the backup software from the external hard drive. I could see file names on that backup and don't see any pse files.
I also have one from this past October; however, I am not sure what I used for the backup, but I can't tell what files are in there since the file names don't show. This backup seems to have strings of letters & numbers for each compressed file so I don't even know if it is there or not.
Maybe I should restore my files using that backup and see what happens. If nothing is there, then I could go ahead and redo the December backup.

Hello everyone how are you people doing?
I'm in serious trouble in my browser, regarding to recovery of my History. My operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). When I go to this site "https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile" I realize that the places.sqlite file is where contains all my bookmarks, downloads and my browsing history.
What happened is that I copied the files "places.sqlite (30 MB)", "places.sqlite-shm (32KB)", "places.sqlite-wal (1.15 MB)" inside the folder enolq5l7.default to a New Folder and pasted them.
Then I took the files containing these same names from an another place where I had saved my old History, and I pasted them into the enolq5l7.default folder. Then it replaced those that had already inside this folder. I opened Firefox browser and when I went to see my history, were all there, the pages on which I accessed at 6 months ago. So far, so good!
Next, I took the files "places.sqlite (30 MB)", "places.sqlite-shm (32KB)", "places.sqlite-wal (1.15 MB)" from the New Folder, and I copied them and pasted them within the enolq5l7.default folder replacing files that already had in it.
I realized that when I put them there, after opening the browser, automatically it has made changes in the files within the folder enolq5l7.default including these same files in which "places.sqlite" from 30MB became 10MB, "places.sqlite-shm" continued 32KB and "places.sqlite-wal" from 1.15 MB became 97KB, in other words, Firefox seemed to not recognize "places.sqlite (30 MB)", "places.sqlite-shm (32KB)", "places.sqlite-wal (1.15 MB) ", automatically undoing the changes every time I opened the browser. The previous session didn't return and the page that appeared when I opened the browser returned back to the defaults.
I tried to go in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bookmarks_history_and_toolbar_buttons_not_working_-_Firefox site, but I'm not sure what actually is occurring if the "places.sqlite" seems to be blocked or damaged, I believe that is only blocked because I tried it """If you have a recent profile backup, another possible solution is to remove the "places.sqlite" file (and any other files named "places.sqlite*", e.g., "places.sqlite-journal", if found) from the Firefox profile folder and replace it with the "places.sqlite" backup file.""" (obviously what I did before) but it didn't worked. I downloaded this addon Places-Maintenance, I clicked execute, restarted Firefox, but nothing worked.
In the "Rebuild Places database" tab advises to me simply rename or delete "places.sqlite" but says that I'll lose all my History. That's not my intention!
I tried to go to the Windows CHKDSK tool and nothing.
What I really 'd like a(some) possible(s) solution(s) to make "places.sqlite (30 MB)", "places.sqlite-shm (32KB)", "places.sqlite-wal (1.15 MB)" be recognized by the browser, retrieving and viewing on the library from my all lost Firefox data, and an advice, if possible from anyone who is interested, so that in future I can get Backup of my history and retrieve it without subsequent errors.

iPhone 4 went into recovery mode when trying to restore it. Now the only option iTunes allows is for "restore & upgrade", it is not offer an option to restore from a backup, says that must first do the upgrade, when attempting to do the upgrade the iPhone won't accept it.
How can I restore from a back up in recovery mode when the only option is "restore and upgrade"?
Please help.You don't you must restore your phone first and then you will have the option to restore from your backup.

If you are the original owner of the phone and know the Apple ID and password that were used to activate it originally, and if you have an existing backup to restore from, you can force it into recovery mode (which will completely erase it) and restore it as explained here: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. When you do you will encounter activation lock, and will have to provide the ID and password used to activate it originally in order to activate it again. If you can't, you won't be able to activate and use it.
