Can't save Browser bookmarks

After months of working just fine, today my Playbook browser decided not to save my bookmarks ....... either on the Home screen or in the browser  (and I have saved many bookmarks previously)
I have seen some posts about doing an OS reload which scares me witless to do that !  Is there an easier way...?
The problem seemed only to happen after my playbook battery went down to 1% today - but now is fully charged.  But maybe that is just a coincidence.......?
So any thoughts on this problem would be much appreciated !!!
Thanks
Peter

Try deleting some unwanted bookmarks. You may have reached a limit.

  • I want to change the file location for the automatic backup file bookmarks.file, but I can't find browser.bookmarks.file in the list on the about:config page.

I asked about automatic backup of bookmarks and received the following answer:You can make Firefox 3 create an automatic HTML backup (bookmarks.html) when you exit Firefox if you set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML] to true on the about:config page. That backup is created by default in the profile folder as bookmarks.html, but you can set the file name and path via the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.file browser.bookmarks.file] on the about:config page. I went to about:config page and toggled browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML to “Yes” and it’s working. However, I want to change the file location, but I can’t find browser.bookmarks.file in the list.

The browser.bookmarks.file preference does not exist by default. Right-click in about:config and select "New > String" to create it.

  • How can I save my bookmarks, and email them?

I would like to save my bookmarks, and email them to one of my Gmail accounts. This way I can download them into another computer.
    How do I do this?

    A couple of methods.
If you want the bookmarks on the other computer to be replaced with the bookmarks on your current computer, follow the procedure in the [[Backing up and restoring bookmarks]] article to backup the bookmarks to a json file which you can email, and then restore those onto the other computer.
If you want to add the bookmarks to the other computer, but still keep the bookmarks that are already on the other computer, you need to export them to an html file. To do that see [[Exporting bookmarks to an HTML file]]. You can email the html file, and import it to the other computer, for details see [[Importing Bookmarks from an HTML File]].

  • How can I save a bookmark in more than one location?

In previous versions, I could save a bookmark in one folder, and again in another. This option seems to have disappeared with 29.0. The reference articles don't outline how to do this.
Does anyone have a trick up their sleeve that will let us do this?
I know that I should perhaps be using tags, but I have thousands of bookmarks filed and can't start a new procedure now with a major project launch coming up.
    Thanks!

hello allen, in the bookmark library you can copy and paste bookmarks into multiple locations. however as you have said, tags are probably a far more efficient way to organize your bookmarks...

  • How can I save my bookmarks toolbar

  • Docs&settings only shows bookmarks from Int Explorer used previously, not Moxilla. How can I save the bookmarks which are shown correctly when using MF?

I want to save my bookmarks as I have done periodically since 2000 using Xp.
For copying to F drive or USB, procedure is open C drive, Documents and settings, my name, Favorites
I have hundreds of sorted bookmarks which I update fairly often.
Changed to MF about five years ago.
It looks like nothing has been added to the Favorites within Documents and Settings since then - all have the blue Int. Explorer logo, none in Moxilla colours.
I was unaware of this as all bookmarks are shown correctly to left of desktop.

    There are three basic options
#You can backup the bookmarks in a form that Firefox can use. And these include any tags with them.<br />See [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
#Firefox stores History in the same database: '''places.sqlite'' the whole of that or even the whole of the profile may be backed up if necessary. <br /> See [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
#You may back them up by '''export / import''' as HTML. These are the same sort of files as is used for IE favourites / favorites. (These will append or tack on to existing bookmark collections) <br />See [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]]
CARE if you restore bookmarks from a backup it overwrites your existing bookmarks so always back them up manually before doing any restore.
Firefox creates its own library of bookmarks. It is possible to add HTML files from IE to these. You will not be able to make sense of Firefox's .json or .sqlite files other than by allowing them to be used within Firefox. The HTML files may probably be opened directly by Firefox or some other programs such as Word Processors.

  • Firefox Android, how can I save a bookmark to one of my desktop bookmark folders?

On Firefox in Android I can see all of my desktop bookmark folders.
I want to be able to bookmark a site and to save that bookmark in one of my desktop bookmark folders rather than the 'Mobile Bookmarks' folder.
    Is this possible?
If not is it an issue with Firefox that could be addressed with an add-on, or is it an issue with Android?

It is not possible. It should be possible to find the bookmark by typing a few letters of the name or URL of the bookmark.
The other option is to use Firefox Sync and organize your mobile bookmarks on desktop Firefox. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-up-firefox-sync

  • Can't save Safari Bookmark

When I try to save a bookmark in Safari using the little "plus sign" in the tool bar, I see something go across the screen like when you are doing a download but there is no drop down menu and a new bookmark is not created. If I use the "Bookmarks" button on the top of the screen, everything works normaly. Does anyone know how to correct this?
    I have a Macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.2 with Safari 7.0.3
    Thanks

The animation you are seeing means the website is being added to Reading List not Bookmarks.
Click the "Share" button,  left of + button , to add the site to Bookmarks.

  • I hit the firefox button and nothing happens. Since you don't have a repair function, can I save the bookmarks before I reinstall the program?

    see above

    Hi,
    Sorry you are having problems.
A clean reinstall will not remove bookmarks unless you take options to remove data or deliberately remove your profile.
You may and it could be prudent to back up your Firefox profile before doing the reinstall. At least look for and backup the data base file places.sqlite . Try Firefox's safe mode; for instance by holding shift key when you click the icon, before considering reinstalling.

Please report back to say if this helped; what you tried, and whether you need more help.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [[Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems#w_5-reinstall-firefox|here]].
<b>WARNING:</b>Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your [[Profiles|Firefox profile]] data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered </u> See [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]. [Fx31] Windows uninstaller will no longer <!-- Starting in Firefox 31, the Firefox uninstaller no longer lets you remove user profile data.Ref: Bug 432017 and https://support.mozilla.org/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer/discuss/5279offer the option to remove personal data -->

  • How can I save my bookmarks, then move them to a new computer when I re-download firefox?

I am getting a new CPU and will download FireFox when I get it. I would like to be able to save and or print my list of favorite bookmarks so I can re-create them on the new computer/FireFox. Is there someway I can just transfer the old bookmarks list to an new computer and a new download of the browser.

    Hello Hellen.
If you're just getting a new CPU, you shouldn't need to worry about backing up your information, since you don't need to format your hard drive to change the CPU.
However, and I don't mean to insult you in any way, so please forgive me for my assumption, if you're referring to the computer (the tower itself, with the drives, boards and all that) as a "CPU", hopefully this support article is what you need:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information
The main thing to remember is that you don't need to just back up your bookmarks. You can port your ''whole'' Firefox experience (that includes passwords, history, cache, settings, add-ons, bookmarks, home pages, absolutely everything) from computer to computer by just copying your profile folder around. It's a brilliant thing that many people don't know, and often people will start all over again, which is totally unnecessary and definitely a big shame. I hope this helps.

  • I 've just installed Firefox for the first time (v9.0.1) & can't save any bookmarks. I don't get an error message & it looks like my bookmark saved but when I go in to look at my bookmarks, there are none there.

I'm also having trouble importing my favourites from IE. I've gone through the steps to Import Data for Another Browser and it looks like it has worked but when I go to view my bookmarks it is still empty.

    Hi,
Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-use-bookmarks?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Bookmarks this.] You can look at the star in the location (address) bar. If it's colored, it usually means the page has been successfully bookmarked.
For importing from Internet Explorer please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Importing%20favorites%20and%20other%20data%20from%20Internet%20Explorer this.] You can also try the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Importing%20Bookmarks%20from%20an%20HTML%20File HTML] method.
