Can't see printer connected to Airport

I and an Airport Express (AE) unit as my main router and set up a second AE with the intention of being able to send documents to my printer wirelessly.  The Airport Utility says the connection is good, and the printer is connected by USB cable to the second AE, but Word cannot see the printer.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Never mind my post.  I found one from Pahu stating that the Canon MF4350d printer that I have is not compatible with Airport Express.  He says that the MF4350dn (a different model) will work if connected to Airport express with an internet cable.  Other people apparently have experienced this problem also, so I guess it's back to the wires.

  • IMac can't see printer connected to Windows 7 PC via USB

    Hi all,
I have a mixed PC/Mac (Snow Leopard & Leopard) network and a Canon PIXMA MP780 printer connected to a PC running Windows 7. Last week, when this printer had XP on it, I could print. Since "upgrading" to Windows 7, the Macs can no longer see the PCs on the network. Clearly this is a Windows issue but I opened a support ticket with Microsoft and was told it is a Mac issue. (SOP for Microsoft) I'm hoping one of you has figured out how to get your Windows 7 PCs and Macs talking to each other. I can't manually add the printer to the Macs (can't even see the PCs) so we are dragging a USB around the office until we get it working. Fun all around.
    Thanks, Denise

My best recommendation for the last 4 or 5 years has to been to only buy network (ethernet) printers. There are many available for under $100. Why put yourself and your office through constant changes caused by upgrading or changing computers? If the printer manufacturer makes drivers for your printer for the OS you want to use, then you're done.
This way, all of your OS's work with the printer in their own way, without having to make considerations for bugs or new services, or changes in the way the OS works on a particular computer. Also, if a computer dies, it doesn't take down your shared printer with it. The other computers don't have to even be turned on for you to print.

  • Can't see printer connected to AEBS

The internet modem is connected to the LAN port, the iMac is connected to one of the ethernet ports and the printer is connected to the AE USB port. The printer shows as offline to the iMac. If I plug the printer into an iMac USB it shows Printer Ready. How do I get the iMac to find the printer on the AE?

How do I get the iMac to find the printer on the AE?
You did not mention whether you had "installed" the printer again (using Print & Fax in System Preferences) when you connected the printer to the USB port on the AEBS.
Did you "install" the printer at the AEBS?
If you did, you will see your printer twice in Print and Fax because the printer has been installed at two locations....one at your iMac and the other at the AEBS.

  • How can I print from my IPAD3 to a printer connected to Airport Express?

How can I print from my IPAD3 to a printer connected to Airport Express? I have a HP printer and I can print from all my Windows PC and iMAC in the house. How can I print from my IPaD?

    You cannot.
The USB port on the AirPort Express allow sharing a printer with Windows and Mac OS X, not with iOS:
"Wireless printing over USB requires a compatible printer and OS X v10.2.7 or later, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7":
    http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/#wireless-printing
"AirPrint-enabled printers  connected using Bluetooth or shared through a USB port of a Mac, PC, AirPort Base Station, or Time Capsule are not supported":
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
The HP ePrint app also does not provide such functionality:
Can I print from the HP ePrint mobile app using USB or Bluetooth?
No. You can only print directly to supported HP printers on a local wireless network.

    Rufus Cat-
Even if it was compatible, AirPrint does not work through a USB link, only Ethernet or WiFi.
I do not see your HP 4500 listed on Apple's list of AirPrint compatible printers.  <iOS: AirPrint 101>  Therefore you need to take another approach.  To start, I suggest you download the free HP App, ePrint Home & Biz.  It has limitations, but should get you printing with your existing setup.
There are other printing Apps with more features such as Print n Share and PrintCentral, but they can only be accessed from within other Apps that have the "Open In" option.
Your best option may be to share your computer's printer as AirPrint over WiFi.  Programs that are reported to do that well are Printopia and FingerPrint.  Your computer must be on and awake any time you want to print.  <Printopia for Macintosh>  <FingerPrint for PC and Mac>

I have an iP4500, which I assume is quite similar to your model.
I had to reset the printing system to get things printing again. Only takes a few minutes and no problems at all since I did it a week ago or so.
Plug the printer into the USB port on the Express and restart the printer.
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and then open Print and Fax
Right-Click in the printer area on the left and select Reset Printing System
Then click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list to install the printer again.

  • Mac's can not see or connect to network resources

Our company network is a windows network. We have a couple of remote users with Mac's. The Mac's connect to the network over a VPN. They can connect to the network through the VPN but can not see or connect to any network resources. What settings am I missing?

My problem is that once the VPN is established and I am on the network, none of the shares or resources are visible or able to be connected to.
VPN gets you connected to the network as if you were physically present in the office, but nothing more.   Once you have successfully connected via VPN, you have to perform a seperate step to actually login to the server.
Also, some of the "it just works" aspects, like seeing all the things you can login to, before actually logging in to them, is a feature of Bonjour, which doesn't pass over VPN.  You'll probably have to use the Finder Menu GO -> Connect to Server, and then type the server's IP address in manually.

  • Can no longer print to Canon printer connected to Airport Extreme

My Canon MP830 is connected to my Airport Extreme. Bonjour on my Windows 7 Acer laptop sees and installs the printer. I have been printing to the MP830 successfully from wired and wireless computers on my network this way for around a year. Today, I can no longer print to the MP830 unless I connect it directly to a USB port on my Acer. Bonjour can still see and install the MP830 when it's connected to the Airport Extreme, but I can't print to the MP830.
    Any ideas?

Sounds a bit like a problem being discussed in this thread:

I suspect some kind of update is at fault. Like you, my printer/base station setup had been working fine until recently.

  • Can't print to hp laser jet 1020 printer connected to airport express

Hello All - I recently bought an airport extreme so I am doing some re-configuring of my home network but I am having issues getting the desired out come.
I have the airport extreme connected to the modem. From the extreme in another room, I have an airport express connected to the airport extreme wirelessly (I set that up through the airport utility without any problems.)  Now I want to connect my usb hp laser jet 1020 printer the airport express to print from.  I have a windows 7 machine.  I can see the printer connected to the airport express through the airport utility.  I have tried to use the bonjour print service to set up the print connection.  Bonjour sees the printer connected as well, I run through all the prompts and click finish, but when I go to print something, it goes to print que and nothing happens. (side note, the printer works just fine when connected directly to the computer).
So I guess my question is, it appears the computer sees that my printer is connected to the airport express. But some point along the way, when I go to print, the message gets lost or goes to the wrong place. I am on the right track?  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

Does "plugged into it" mean that the printer is connected using USB or Ethernet?
If USB, have you run Bonjour for Windows to find and configure the printer?  (Pages 16-17 in the Setup Guide)

  • Can not print to printer connected to airport via other computers.

I have recently purchased an Airport Express base station. I have connected to my company network in my office, to access network, internet and my printer wirelessly as well as broadcast my iTunes audio. I have managed most but fail the most important.
I can access to internet, broadcast my music, print wirelessly.
But I can not access to files and other computers within our company network (a windows network)
Also by connecting my printer to airport, other wired users can not access to my printer, but they should.
Please help me to resolve these issues.

    Hello KUT,
Have the windows users download and install the wonderful Bonjour for Windows!
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows.html
They will be able to use the printer connected to the airport. As for file sharing, this is a much harder task, only due to the nature of the PC's. I recommend reading :

  • Can't see printer or shares when connected via Internet Sharing

I recently switched from a 2006 to a 2008 Mac Pro. Rather than do a migration I simply took the hard drives from the old machine and put them in the new one.
I then upgraded to Mountain Lion.
I use Internet Sharing to share my Mac Pro's Ethernet connection via wifi, but the other Macs can't see the Mac Pro's printer or shares when connected in this way. They can access the internet. If I connect a machine via the LAN rather than Internet Sharing, the shares and printer are visible.
This worked fine on Lion on the old machine. Any ideas?

Seems that the issue is something to do with connecting via WPA2. When I set Internet Sharing to use WEP (by option-clicking the security menu), I'm then able to see the network shares and the printer.

  • IPhone4 can't "see" or connect to home WiFi network (AirPort)

    Hi,
I recently moved to an apartment building. When I was at my parents, we used my Airport Extreme (about 3 years old) for a home network. All three iPhone4's in the house, two PC's, two Macbook Pro's and a first gen iPod Touch all connected without issue.
Since moving, I've hooked up my Airport Extreme and did a firmware update I'd been prompted to do for a few months, but have been ignoring, via Macbook pro. I went to connect my iPhone, and it could no longer find the network. The two Macbook pro's in the apartment connect without issue, however my iPhone4 is not connecting - it can't even "see" or "find" the network!
I don't believe it's a WiFi card issue in the phone, as I can see a number of secure wifi networks in the building, and my phone connects without issue to an unsecured one, Starbucks, friend's networks, etc. However, it can't see my home network; and if I try to connect by manually entering the network name/password it says it can't find the network (which is clearly in existance and working, as I'm on it right now on the Macbook).
I have the latest iOS on my iPhone, and have tried the following (many due to other threads on these boards):
    Restarting the modem/router
    Restarting the router only
    Reseting the iPhone network settings
Downgrading the base station firmware from 7.6.1 (the update I did tonight while setting up the router) to 7.6, 7.5.2, and 7.4.2
Elimintating the newly created guest network
    Setting the channels myself
Using it as an open network
Resetting the airport network settings to factory and reconfiguring the network
    Standing next to the router
Putting the phone on top of the router
I'm fresh out of ideas, and really, REALLY frusterated.
Any insight or suggestions would be appriciated.
    Thanks,
    Lauren

  • WIndows can see and connect to Airport but...

Windows XP SP2 on HP Compaq NX9110. Airport Express. ADSL modem linked via Ethernet Switch.
    The situation:
Windows can connect to the Internet via Ethernet cable.
Windows can connect to the Airport Network.
WIndows cannot connect to the Internet via Airport.*
WIndows cannot connect to other Macs via Ethernet or Airport.*
One mac on Ethernet, one Mac on Airport - both Running 10.3.9., and one Mac on Airport running 10.4.10. The macs can see each other, and connect to the internet via Airport or Ethernet, whichever combination I use.
Any suggestions regarding the WIndows machine?
    Christo.

    WINDOWS PROBLEM SOLVED - WOHOO!
The XP laptop had IP settings were configured manually, which were setup for my old network settings, and which never worked properly at all.
After switching to automatic settings (DHCP - distributed by the router) and restarting, internet access is now working, the macs can see the PC and connect.
At this point the PC can't see the macs, but I have a suspicion that the workgroup settings on the PC may need some adjustment.
The advice and suggestions certainly pointed me in the direction to look. And it turned out to be quite simple in the end. Doh!
My next endeavor is to setup an 'ethernetted mac' as a server so it can host a website that can be accessed via the internet outside of my network.
If anyone can point me to a discussion or website that explains this it would be greatly appreciated.
    Christo.
