Can't seem to restore my nano after intializing on a PC

OK, hopefully this is an easy fix.
I intially hooked the nano up to my work PC, but would, in retrospect, like to work with it on my home Cube Mac. I have tried to "restore" it so that it will work on the Mac, but when I open the iPod sofware updater, and it says, "Plug in an iPod to update", I do so and even though it will show either on the desktop or in iTunes itself, the little blue bars that should allow me to update/restore never become active.
Has this happened to anyone else, and if so what to do? I can't imagine why I'm not getting the option to restore the nano if that window comes up and it obviously knows I've plugged my nano in.
Help, please!?

Michael - Thanks! I used my wife's iBook, and it did indeed allow me to restore it there.
Unfortunately, now when I plug my nano into my Cube, it is still telling me that some of the tunes don't copy onto my iPod (in fact, none of them do) because I don't have the current software, and to install the latest by going to apple.com, blah, blah, blah.
I DO indeed have the latest software and both iTunes and my Cube recognize the nano. I just can't get it to copy them onto it.
Does anyone have an idea as to what I can do to actually get MUSIC to play ut of this thing! I've had it for a week and a half, and something as simple as getting tunes to load onto it is proving to be the hardest process ever! Arggghhhh!
The only thing I could think of - and this was late last night, was tha looking at the specs of iTunes 5.0.1, is that it requires a 500MHz processor - and my Cube only has a 450 MHz PowerPC G4 processor - Can anyone tell me if this is the problem?

    I thought I backed up my Iphone, but can't seem to recover my pictures.  Where are they stored for the back-up?

    Well, an iPhone backup consists of multiple files, not just one.  They are all stored in a single folder, and I found the location using a quick Google search the last itme I needed that information.  You might rty this link:  http://lmgtfy.com/?q=where+does+itunes+store+iPhone+backup+on+Windows

    Time Machine doesn't restore my Business Folder in Mail, which is empty after I installed Mavericks. It will restore just the folder but nothing in it. What am I doing wrong? Also, Time Machine doesn't go back more than about a year. I thought it would do better than that.

  • Since installing mavericks I can't seem to restore my time machine backups

    It only seems to show back ups it's done since mavericks. However I can see another computer's sparse bundle that also used the time capsule. Any tips?
    Quite worried that it may have wiped over my old backups

    Frequently doing a SMC reset will help this issue, for directions please click the iMac SMC and PRAM reset link. Also check the obvious such as cables and connections. Or it's even possible the EHD has failed, they can and do.

  • Can't seem to import my photos after upgrading to iOS 6

    I have an iPhone 4S and just upgraded to iOS 6. I used to import my images to my computer using Preview on my iMac, but today when I tried doing that, no photos appeared. I also noticed that the name of my phone is now "Apple iPhone" when I connect, when it used to be called the name of my phone ("Miellen's iPhone" for example). I tried with Image Capture and iPhoto, and none of them showed any images from my phone when connected. It was like they connected to a phone with no photos.
    Can't import my images! Aargh, what happened?

    Connected my iphone AFTER unlocking and could import all photos.

  • I can't seem to find a function to check to see if a connection was success

    Hello everyone. I'm running into 2 problems that I can't seem to find functions for after reading the java API on socket and serverSocket.
    If a client closed a connection on my server, like if someone telnets into my server, then closes the console, i get the following:
    Event from: localhost-> null
    Exception in thread "Thread-1" java.lang.NullPointerException
         at server.MultiThreadServer.run(MultiThreadServer.java:62)
         at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:803)This is the check i do to avoid getting this, but it doesn't seem to work:
    //close a connection on this condition.
                  if(csocket.getRemoteSocketAddress() == null || input.equals("bye"))
                       System.out.println("Connection closed by client.");
                       break;
                  }If I attempt to run a server socket on a socket that is already being used, I'd like to print out a statement saying its being used and do something about it, like let the user enter another port number. Right now I have:
    public class MainTest {
           public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception
                //get console input
                BufferedReader stdin = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
                System.out.println("Enter port to run server on: ");
                String input = stdin.readLine();
                int servPort = Integer.parseInt(input);
                try
                ServerSocket ssock = new ServerSocket(servPort);
                System.out.println("Listening on : " + ssock);
                  while (true) {
                    //waiting for client to connect to server socket
                    Socket sock = ssock.accept();
                    System.out.println(sock + " connected.");
                    //get host information
                    InetAddress clientIa = sock.getInetAddress( );
                    String clientName = clientIa.getHostName();
                    String clientIp = clientIa.getHostAddress();
                    int localPort = sock.getLocalPort();
                    System.out.println("hostname: "+clientName  +
                              '\n' + "Ip address: " + clientIp
                              +":"+ localPort + "\n\n");
                    new Thread(new MultiThreadServer(sock)).start();
                catch(IOException e)
                     e.printStackTrace();
    }Me catching the IOException is too broad....if anything goes wrong it will spit out the error and stop program execution as it should.
    I tried
    if(ssock.isClosed()) { System.out.println("Socket is being used, try another");but it doesn't work.
    Also inside my server program I'm connecting to another server and if that other server isn't running I'd like to print out an error message stating that.
    Right now it will just say: Connection Refused if its not running.
    here's that code:
    public class MultiThreadServer implements Runnable {
         Socket csocket;
      MultiThreadServer(Socket csocket) {
        this.csocket = csocket;
      public void run() {
        try {
          //setting up channel to recieve events from the omnibus server
             BufferedReader in= new BufferedReader(
                        new InputStreamReader(
                        csocket.getInputStream()));
             //This socket will be used to communicate with the reciever
             //we will need a new socket each time because this is a multi-threaded
             //server thus, the (outputServ) will need to be
             //multi threaded to handle all the output.
             Socket outputServ = new Socket("localhost",1234);
             if(outputServ.getLocalSocketAddress() == null)
                  System.out.println("OutputServer isn't running...");
             //Setting up channel to send data to outputserv
              PrintWriter out
                   = new PrintWriter(
                   new OutputStreamWriter(
                   outputServ.getOutputStream()));
             while(true)
                  //accepting events from omnibus server and storing them
                  //in a string for later processing.
                  String input = in.readLine();
                  //accepting and printing out events from omnibus server
                  //also printing out connected client information
                  System.out.println("Event from: " + csocket.getInetAddress().getHostName()
                            +"-> "+ input +"\n");
                  out.println(input);
                  out.flush();
                  //close a connection on this condition.
                  if(csocket.getRemoteSocketAddress() == null || input.equals("bye"))
                       System.out.println("Connection closed by client.");
                       break;
             //cleaning up
          in.close();
          out.close();
          outputServ.close();
          csocket.close();
        } catch (IOException e) {
          System.out.println(e);
          e.printStackTrace();
    }Both those conditions don't seem to work, if a client closes a connection it doesn't respond and if the server isn't running on port 1234, i get that connection refused.
    Any help would be great!

    Thanks for the help guys!
    adding -1 to the stream worked perfect:
    i have it like this:
         String input;
         //accepting events from omnibus server and storing them
         //in a string for later processing.
         while ((input = in.readLine()) != null)
                  //accepting and printing out events from omnibus server
                  //also printing out connected client information
                  System.out.println("Event from: " + csocket.getInetAddress().getHostName()
                            +"-> "+ input +"\n");
                  out.flush();
                  out.println(input);
                  out.flush();
                  //close a connection on this condition.
                  if(in.read() == -1)
                       System.out.println("Connection closed by client.");
                       break;
        //cleaning up
          in.close();
          out.close();
          outputServ.close();
          csocket.close();
        } I had one last question, when I catch a socketExpection, such as, if the user enters a port that is already in use, I would like to give them the chance to enter another port before stopping the program.
    I'm not sure how I can do this with exceptions though, like i have:
      //setting up sockets
                ServerSocket ssock = null;
                Socket sock = null;
                try
                //setting up server to run on servPort
               ssock = new ServerSocket(servPort);
           catch (SocketException e )
                     System.out.println ("Socket error: " + e);
                }now inside that catch block, is there a way for me to allow the user to enter another socket and try again? or am I approaching this wrong?
    while(true)
    if the port is already been used
    allow the user to enter in another port number
    else
    break;
    }I'm confused on how this will work though becuase:
    once it hits this line:
    ssock = new ServerSocket(servPort);the exception is thrown and it jumps down to the catch block,
    now inside that catch block how would I let the user enter in another port number and try this line of code again?
    ssock = new ServerSocket(servPort); //this time with the new servPort number?
    Thanks!

  • After doing the iOS6 update, i had to restore my iPod. But now I can't seem to find my pictures. Is there anyway to get pictures back?

    I wanted to update my iPod and after I had done it, it told me I had to restore the iPod. But now after the back-up none of the photos i had are being put back onto it. Is there a way I can get these pictures back?

    - Did you restore from a backup that contained the photos?
    - The backup only contains photos in the iPod's Camera Roll album. It does not included photos synced to the iPod.
    - All you can do is try restoring from backup again.

  • HT1727 I lost my old iPod and bought a new one. The old one had many of MY personally owned and legally bought CDs on it. I have those iTunes backed up ant now I can't seem to "synch" them to the new iPod nano.

    I can't seem to synch my new iPod nano to the legally purchased music from CDs that had been on my old iPod which I've lost.
    I had a backup of all those iTunes that I want to import to the new nano.
    How can I "synch" the new iPod nano to the music I see in an iTune library? The new iPod nano displays "no music" and
    doesn't play anything.

    Hello PrettyinPinkInk,
    You might consider restoring the iPhone, then removing the SIM card after activating the iPhone, so as to use it as an iPod Touch. This should prevent any unwanted association with a phone number, and thus, voicemail, as well.

    The page load progress bar that was on the lower right of the window is no longer there. After updating to the latest version of Firefox on my Mac there is no progress bar for the page load. I really miss this feature and can't seem to find a way to obtain it. The tab has a circular progress wheel but this is useless for determining a stuck or slow loading page.
    PLEASE NOTE: I am typing this in from a Windows based work computer but am asking about my Apple MacBook Pro that i use at home.

    Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
    You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
    There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
    Another possibility is to use:

    Wow!  I think I had this same issue just last night.
    I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside.  Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly.  It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle.  Of course I took no pictures!!!  I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
    But I digress...  The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect.  After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though.  There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top.  After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen.  I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background.  After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle.  After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange.  But I believe that might be all in my head now.
    So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.
