Can't send Mail on Mac Mail, but can on Entourage - what am I doing wrong?

Aggg. Help.
I have been using Entourage on my Macs, and have decided to switch to Mac Mail. I have multiple accounts for my websites on my dedicated server. I use standard ports for sending and receiving mail - and, as it is my server, I can dictate all controls.
So... I can receive mail on my Macs, but can not send. I am trying to set-up IMAP accounts - and my server requires i use as outgoing" mail.mywebsite.com
I use a linux server using cPanel.
It works on Entourage. But Mac's Mail will not accept the outgoing mail information. I have tried with and without authentication (which is required). I have overridden the port and tried each individually (25, 465, etc..). I have tired smtp.mywebsite.com rather than the required mail.mywebsite.com, just to see. I have tried every combination of information with no luck. I sort of think I know how to set it all up, but can not understand what I am missing?
Why can I not get Mac Mail to send?
I can match what is in use by Entourage - but it just does not work.
I use MS Office 2008's Entourage - and to make things more fun, Mac Mail will not import my Entourage accounts (says it can not find them). I am using a 3 month old iMac with latest OS. I have been on Macs since 1988 - so I just don't get what is going on. HELP PLEASE. Puuuullleeeeeaze.
thanks!

Hello,
If you open the Activity viewer (click on Window in the menubar and choose Activity) and watch when you try to send, what phases if any are indicated are taking place before failure?
What type of authentication is required for this SMTP? When using in Entourage, what are the selections in Advanced sending options, particularly regarding the box beside Use same settings as receiving mail server?

    I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I have the newest MAC and I loaded my Lightroom 3 and when I try to import photos it says READ only. And it keeps defaulting to iPhoto.
    Photoshop Lightroom !

    I been trying to use Lightroom 5 which is new with Nikon d810 camera also new and i am not able to import photos from the card.
    Are you using Nikon software at any step of the process before import into Lightroom? If so, please try importing directly from the camera card using Lightroom only, and no Nikon software in the process.
    If that's not it, please quote the exact error message.

  • Can someone explain what I am doing wrong? Windows Boot manager error.

    Okay, I've literally searched EVERYWHERE and can not find a reasonable answer to this question.
    Everytime I try to load windows on bootcamp, I get this error:
    Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause . to fix problem:
    1. insert windows installation disc and restart computer
    2.choose your language settings, and then click "next"
    if you do not have the disc, contact your system admistrator or computer manufacturer for assistence
    status 0xc0000017
    And that's it.
    I have tried everything from usb to countless 8 gig DVD which I wasted from burning the ISO time and time again.
    I am doing everything through the bootcamp installer and I partition up to 80 gigs of space of my hard drive for it.
    This is an official iso image from windows btw.
    I think it's a memory problem, but I am not sure. Here are my specs:

    you really are way too low on memory, but that is not the issue.

    What is Boot Camp 5?
    Boot Camp 5 is not a release of OS X software. Rather, it is a release of the Windows Support Software (drivers). You will need to use this software on your Mac with Windows 8 or Windows 7. For more information on Boot Camp 5, see thttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT5639
    Which Macs support Windows 8?
    MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
    MacBook Pro (Mid 2010 or newer)
    Mac Pro (Early 2009 or newer)
    Mac Mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
    iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010 or Mid 2011 or newer)
      For more information, see this article.  What are the System Requirements for Windows 8?
    Please see this article.
    How can I install Windows 8 on an eligible computer?
    Use the Boot Camp Assistant. The assistant will partition your internal hard drives and install Windows 8. For more information on Windows 8 installation, see the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide.
    Can I use an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8?
    Yes. Download and install the Boot Camp 5 Support Software before attemping the upgrade by using the Boot Camp Assistant in OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3. Alternatively, you can manually download the Boot Camp 5 Windows Support Software here.
    When I do an upgrade install from Windows 7 to Windows 8, an "Uninstall USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver" message appears. What do I do?
    Do not click on Uninstall. Click the back button and Cancel the upgrade. Download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software by using the Boot Camp Assistant in OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3, or click here to download them. Then, try the upgrade again. See this article for more information.
    After upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8, Thunderbolt devices are (not) being recognized when I connect in. How do I fix this?
    Disable the Windows 8 Fast Boot feature to allow Thunderbolt devices to be recognized. See Boot Camp: Thunderbolt devices not recognized after Windows 8 upgrade for instructions.
    Is there an OS X version requirement to use the Boot Camp Assistant to download Boot Camp 5 Support Software?
    You need OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 or later installed to download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software (Windows drivers) using the Boot Camp Assistant. After upgrading, click the Go menu and choose Utilities. Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the onscreen instructions. You can download the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide.
    Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
    Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
    How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
    The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
    Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
    Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
    Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
    Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
    When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
      Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.  How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
    Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
    Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
    Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
    Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
    If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
    If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
    Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
    Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
    Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
    64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. • When I send a photo via e-mail, it is recieved, upsidedown what am I doing wrong?

    What does a photo sent from the phone via e-mail get recieved upsidedown?

    Nothing. The program being used to view it on the other end is disregarding the exif data embedded in the image that indicates which way is 'up'.

  • Not all accounts can add names what am i doing wrong?

    My iMac has 3 accounts but it appears that only the account with administrator rights can add names to photos. All photos are in the shared folder so this doesnt make sense to me.
    I will openly admit that I am a complete noob, I have only owned a MAC for 2 weeks...
    On the other accounts - it lets you waste your time inserting names to faces but as we discovered after several hours.... it didnt save any of them. Admin account is 100% fine...
    Any suggestions please people?

    All photos are in the shared folder so this doesnt make sense to me.
    But where are the Libraries? Are you sharing the Photo files? Or sharing the iPhoto Library?
    OS X works rather hard to keep each user's data away from the other's. IF you want users to be able to share the photos, then using the Shared Folder is quite good, but they will have separate Libraries with separate database and so on.
    If you want to share the Library, that's a different matter.
    What you mean by 'share'.
    If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
    Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
    Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
    If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. The problem here is that OS X works very hard to keep your data safe and secure from the other users. You're trying to beat what's built in to the system. So, to beat the system
    Quit iPhoto in both accounts
    Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.
    In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
    However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.
    Alternatively: If you’re comfortable in the Terminal, and understand File Permissions, ACL’s etc., some folks have reported success using the process outlined here . (Note this page refers to 10.4, but it should also work on 10.5). If you’re not comfortable with the terminal, and don’t know an ACL from the ACLU, then you’re best doing something else... Oh, and the warning about simultaneous users still applies.
    Lastly: This method seems a little clunky at first, but works very well. Most importantly, it uses the System to do the job for you.
    Create a new Account on your Mac, call it Media. Create an iPhoto Library there. (BTW: This will work for iTunes too.)
    Enable Sharing on the Library:(Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other accounts. In those accounts, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. The Library will appear in the other source pane.
    This means that both users will be able to see the pics. If you want to use a pic then simply drag it from the shared Library to your own in the iPhoto Window. This means that each user can have their own edits.
    If you want to add photos to the Library: Log into the Media account for that purpose.
    To make it all seamless: Set your Mac to log into the Media Account automatically. Set iPhoto to launch on log-in. Then switch to your own account using Fast User Switching.
    Net result: a Library that's permanently available to all users but also protected. Each user can have their own versions of the pics if they want.
    No partitioning, no permissions issues. Uses no extra disk space. What's not to like?
    Regards
    TD

  • I'm travelling and trying to back up my new iPhone to iCloud. I have sufficient storage, am connected to wifi and it's plugged into a power source and yet it doesn't seem to work. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong?

    I'm travelling and trying to back up my new iPhone to iCloud. I have sufficient storage, am connected to wifi and it's plugged into a power source and yet it doesn't seem to work at all. I'm currently in India. Could that be the cause or can anyone suggest any reason why this wouldn't work?

    "gets stuck" - are there any error messages?
    If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test:   Go to...
    Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options.  Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup.  If that doesn't work, then this post will not help.  If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup.  If successful, keep repeating these steps.  If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail.  (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
    This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one.

  • Streaming, can someone explain what I am doing wrong?

    I have two ATVs both synced to one computer. I have a large music library on a second computer but can't find how to stream to one of the ATVs.
    I followed the instructions in the booklet, opened iTunes on the relevant computer, chose sources on the ATV, "Connect to New iTunes" and noted the passcode, selected the ATV icon and "Click to set up", entered the passcode and the ATV icon disappeared. "My Library" shows in the sources but the ATV icon only re-appears on the computer if I switch to "Connect to New iTunes". If I then click on the icon the ATV page opens up with details of the ATV and a message saying that the ATV icon will only appear when "My Library" is selected on the ATV, but as soon as I do that the ATV icon disappears. The help file says in System Preferences sharing pane make sure "iTunes Music Sharing" is on! There is no "iTunes Music Sharing"!!
    Please, can someone take this idiot through the process step by step, including how you start streaming once you have successfully made the connection?

    Glad to see everything is starting to work out.
    You might consider two user accounts (that's logins) with a music library in each. It's a little more work to operate, but probably less than having two libraries in one user account and providing both users are logged in and have itunes running you should get both libraries available to you at the same time on the tv (obviously you would need to switch between them on the tv).
    Otherwise I'd consolidate them by opening itunes (with library 1) and then dragging and dropping the music files from the music folder of library 2 onto itunes, I'd start by doing a few tunes to satisfy yourself that all is OK, you can probably do them in large chunks but I'd probably not drag them all at once, if something did go wrong you probably wouldn't lose any files but it might be difficult to figure out what files had been added and which hadn't before the problem occurred.

  • Trying to draw a 2D shape, but Graphics2D is null, what am I doing wrong?

    At this point, I just want a shape to appear. But when I call draw(...), I get a NullPointer. Turns out when I call getGraphics() on the input JFrame (which does show up properly when the rest is commented out), I get nothing. Maybe it's the casting, I don't know enough about this issue to really say. If anyone out there has worked with 2D primitives and can shed some light on the problem, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks for any help.
    public class BatteryDisplay extends JPanel {
         Graphics2D g2d;
         Rectangle2D.Double rect1;
         JFrame jf;
         public BatteryDisplay(JFrame jf)
              this.jf = jf;
                    // Is there another way to get the graphics object?
              g2d = (Graphics2D) jf.getGraphics();
              createRectangle();
              drawRectangle();
         public void createRectangle()
              rect1 = new Rectangle2D.Double(100,100,200,50);
              System.out.println(rect1.height);
                    // The next line returns the NullPointer, so g2d is NOT initalized
              System.out.println(g2d);
         public void drawRectangle()
              this.g2d.draw(rect1);
    }

    Your painting functions should be initiated from an overridden paintComponent, not from the constructor. A graphics object will be provided to you there.

    Very strange. If the apps are not in the Settings>General>Usage>Show all Apps list, then they are truly not installed on the device and of course cannot be removed/deleted from the device. Have you tried logging out, then logging back in to your Apple ID?
    You may also want to try reverting to a previous backup (assuming you have one) before this started happening.
    Also, are these apps for iPhone only? Apps that are written specifically for iPhone will not install on the iPad. They will show in your purchases but will not allow download/installation on an iPad.

  • Bought music on itunes but one album wont sync onto my iphone. All others are fine, i have removed it and reloaded, re synced etc but to no avail - what am i doing wrong!?

    I have bought loads of music off itunes before and loaded to my iphone. I recently bought an album that for love nor money will not load to my iphone although is clearly visible in my itunes account. I have tried removing it and resyncing it, reloading it, syncing and then reloading the whole phone but still to no avail. Any ideas what I might be missing!?
    Thankies
    Sarah

    Hey Sarah!
    Have you updated your phone to iOS 5.1.1? I know the most recent update aided to resolving this issue. If you have updated, though, does the album look like its downloading and then stops or "crashes" at the very end?

    - Try resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
    Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Reset network settings:Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
