Can't set account picture

I just tried to change the picture associated with my (administrator) account. I go to System Preferences, select Accounts, select my account, unlock it, select Picture tab, select Edit..., and then either choose a picture by navigating to it in iPhoto or dragging a picture into the Images window, or taking a video snapshot and selecting Set. The picture shows up as my new account picture but then immediately reverts to the default generic silhouette picture. I can't get the picture I select to stick.
Something must be corrupted. Can anyone help?

I've had the same problem for SO long. I've looked here before, and I've changed the address book and account pictures and my iCloud account picture and address book in iCloud and in my phone. EVERYTHING.
Then today I realised that my problem was being caused by a little setting I'd enabled in the Facebook for iPhone app. Basically, you can set the app (through friends, then this icon in the top right of an arrow) to sync your contacts' photos with those from Facebook so that you have up to date pictures of them.
In those options, there's an option to 'replace existing photos' of contacts. It was turned on. BAD IDEA.
Since my iCloud account has the same name as my Facebook account, the Facebook app was replacing my contact card info on my iPhone to my Facebook photo (which had been my account photo for a short while). Of course, this was syncing to my iCloud account and finally to my computer, changing my account picture to my Facebook photo. Changing it back on iCloud etc was reverted to the Facebook photo every time that I opened the Facebook app, which caused it to sync the contacts' photos on my phone with the friends list ones.
That is why it is really variable how often the picture changes back, because it depends how long it's been since you last opened the Facebook app on your iPhone! Finally, I am SO GLAD that I managed to figure out the root of the problem. Turning off that 'replace existing photos' problem has fixed everything.
I hope that this solves all of you guys' problems too!

A tick mark appears on the photo. Touch and hold the photo again for sometime and your finger can move the photo and can be dragged to your desired order. Did I clear your doubt. Fredy.

    Hello,
    Try trashing this file: com.apple.desktop.plist
It's here: Home/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate that file and drag it to the Trash. Empty the Trash and reboot. Now, go to System Preferences/Desktop - ScreenSaver. Use the Sidebar on the left to select photos. It's ok to trash a preference file, your Mac will create a new one for you.
Run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Disk Utility is here:
    Applications/Utilities
Make sure your images are .jpg formatted. That's what Apple uses. You can see formats and image sizes for Apple Desktop Picture here: MacintoshHD/Library/DesktopPictures.

  • Can I Set Accounts This Way?

I have 3 accounts on this iMac...mine (administrator), my wife, and Guest.
Is it possible to set things up so that if I, for example, walk away from my Mac for a time, when the computer is awakened from screensaver or sleep mode, it displays the three accounts and requires login to the selected one?
Setting the Security System Preference to "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screensaver" is of limited value in my house, as it would require passing out my password just to restart into a different user account.
(As may be obvious, I haven't started looking into Accounts until recently...there may be obvious things I don't understand as yet).

The problem with auto logout is that it will close all of the users' applications and documents after the period of inactivity, which mostly defeats the purpose of fast user switching.
I have a couple of more ideas for you.
There is a screensaver called Ciao, that works like a normal screensaver, but fast switches to the login window when it activates. If you use this it would cover the wake-from-screensaver problem.
As for the wake from sleep issue, I have set up an Automator script on a hot key that does two things in one shot: It switches to the login window and then puts my Mac to sleep. Whenever I want to sleep my Mac I just press command-F13 and it's done. The next person to wake it up sees the login window. Ask me for more help on how to set it up if you like.
If you use both of these in tandem it should do what you want.

We have database 9i, but our clients are old Forms 4.5 using SQLNet2 and it isnt't able to handle expired passwords. Account status EXPIRED(GRACE) solve my problem, but Oracle doesn't have any commands for it.

  • Can't set Desktop picture in Yosemite

Since I started using the Yosemite OS, I cant save a particular photo as Desktop Picture. It always reverts back to a mountion scene that is the OS default, I guess.
    Any suggestions?

Never mind, I fixed the problem. I was reseting the Help Viewer and had to restart my computer. I was able to change the desktop pic after that.

  • Setting user picture

I know this should be really, really easy - but it's just not working.
On my new MBP (June 09), I can choose my account picture, and set it, but I still end up every time with my name in the menubar instead of the chosen picture - even after logging out or restarting.
    Am I missing something?

anyway to replace the user name in the menubar with an icon?
Yes, but it is a limited selection of icons. In "login Options" of "Accounts" system preference, you can set Fast User Switching' "View as" to "icon", but everyone gets the same icon. If you want a choice of icons, set it to "Name" (not "Short Name"). You can then set "User Name" to any icon from "Special Characters" in the "Edit" menu, such as"

  • How do  I export a set of pictures from iPhoto to Photos

My MacBook Pro now has OS X 10.10.3 and the new Photos app.
I have over 30K pictures in the iPhoto app in this laptop, and I do not have the need to sync all of these pictures with all of my iOS devices; I won't be using iCloud.
I was not able to determine if Photos can import sets of pictures from iPhoto; I could have imported all of my pictures from the iPhoto library but did not find out if Photos does have the option to import sets as per user's needs; I saw Photos allow the user to select those he/she wants to import but I don't think I would like to select these one by one from 30K photos.
I will like to transfer sets of these pictures selected by date taken from iPhoto and export them to Photos library I created in an external volume. I need to free some space in my HD.
    Any suggestions?

There is no way to import from an iPhoto Library to a Photos one. You can migrate an entire Library at one time, that's all. Otherwise your choice is to export from iPhoto to the Finder, thereafter import to Photos.

  • How can I delete user account picture in Windows 8?

I have set my account picture, but now want to delete the pic and back to the default.
    How can I do it?

    Hello,
The userpic, the image tiles used for your account picture, is located, in different resolutions, in the following folder: C:\Users\Public\AccountPictures\%UserAccountSecurityIdentifier%
where %UserAccountSecurityIdentifier% is a placeholder for the Security IDentifier (SID) assigned by the operating system or domain controller to your user account.
Here is how it looks like:
NOTE: If your are using multiple account for login to your computer, like local Security Account Manager (SAM) account (standard account created and stored on your local PC in NTFS), your Microsoft Account (the one using internet account name provided
by Microsoft such as [email protected],
[email protected]), or an Active Directory account, please open root C:\Users\Public\AccountPictures\ folder and browse to the folder with the name of the SID assigned to your user account for which you want to change the user picture.
To find out what SID refers to what user account name used on your PC, proceed with the following:
Start the elevated command prompt by pressing WindowsKey+Q and typing
    cmd, then hitting Enter.
At the command prompt type: wmic useraccount get name, sid and press
    Enter.
This will return a table with all user accounts registered on this computer (that is those who had once logged onto this PC) and their corresponding SIDs.
    Now lookup this registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AccountPicture\Users
And locate the subkey (named correspondingly to the desired SID), then remove REG_SZ values that contain paths to the userpic images to remove traces of userpics.
WARNING: Please create new system restore point before making this registry change!
    Hope this helps.

  • How can you disable "set desktop picture" from the finder contextual menu

I teach high school.  And MUST find a way to keep my students from changing their desktops.
First I basically got rid of Firefox when it had that feature in the Tiger days.
Then for Leopard I had to create dummy "locked" Safari Desktop Picture files for all my user accounts so the kids couldn't use Safari to set their desktop pictures.
NOW I discover (maybe this was here before) Snow Leopard lets you change the desktop right from the Finder itself!  Just right click on any image file and the contextual menu  will give them the option to "set desktop picture".
Come on Apple, every educator I know has complained about what a distraction and constant battle images are for students who use computers.  While not all students are inappropriate, quite a few are...meaning no one can be allowed the privilege.  Why is this such a huge battle to try and lock down?  Please allow Parental Controls or Server managed preferences to keep our students from being able to change their desktop pictures, ever, at all, from anywhere or any program.
Does anyone know if this is even possible?

The only way (I have found) to shut down using Safari's "Use Image as a Desktop Picture" feature is to create a bunch of blank documents that the users have no permission to change (i.e. set permission to only allow, say YOU to read it and no access to write to it for anyone)
Create a number of these blank documents and rename them
    Safari Desktop Picture.jpg
    Safari Desktop Picture.tiff
    Safari Desktop Picture.gif
    Safari Desktop Picture.jpeg
    Safari Desktop Picture.png
(you get the point....come up with as many .3 extensions of photo files that you can think of)
Put these locked and unchangeable files into the following directory of each of your student accounts
    Macintosh HD/Users/~User Name/Library/Safari/
What this does is create a bunch of dummy files that will "block" Safari (or the system or user) from trying to replace them.  Even though the right click comman will still be there, Safari will not be able to put the picture in the correct part of the system for it to be used as a Desktop Picture.

  • My wife and I share the iPad. Can we set up separate accounts to log in (like on our Mac)?

My wife and I share the iPad. Can we set up separate accounts to log in (like on our Mac)?

Good question, but I'm 99.9% certain the answer is "no".  Here are some considerations:
Think of the heritage of iOS.  It really started with iPhones and maybe iPods.  These devices cost a whole lot less than a Mac.  They are generally not thought of as shared (with exceptions, of course, as is true for you).
Think of the backup process.  i-devices typically sync with one iTunes on one computer.  How would an i-device with multiple users enstantiate this?
Anyway, all this is to say I'm convinced you cannot do what you're inquiring about.
