Can't set up Mail on iPad?

My wife recently bought an iPad 3 and somehow managed to get her old email address (not a mobileme address) set up as an iCloud address (i.e., neither me/mac.com or icloud.com). The iCloud account shows up in Settings, but when I click on the Mail app, I'm given a number of options, iCloud being one of them. When I click on the iCloud icon, I'm prompted to enter an email address and a password, which is verified, but that's where it all ends?
In Settings > iCloud when I turn on Mail, I'm prompted to enter an ermail account but the @me.com part already supplied, can't be changed, so my wife's email address ending in .edu can't be entered?
So, hiow does one get access to the Mail app on the iPad 3?

settings>mail contacts calendars>Add account, and its either an exchange or other, you would have to get the server settings from the IT people

I am not sure I understand you question, but if you are attempting to set up an iCloud email account, you can start in System Preferences >  iCloud > Account Details. Establishing the details of your iCloud (a.k.a. Apple) ID there automatically creates the account in Mail

  • HT201060 How can I set up a new iPad with my 5 year old daughters iCloud address when it won't let me because I've allowed her to be part of my family on my iPad.?

How can I set up a new iPad with my 5 year old daughters icloud address when the new iPad won't let me cause I've made her part of my family group?

If you want to migrate your phone to a new iCloud account, start by saving any photo stream photos you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tap the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward pointing arrow), then tap Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Keep on My iPhone and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.

You can download the apps again by opening App Store app on the iPad and tap Purchased at the bottom. That will display all apps that you have previously purchased on that Apple ID and you can download any of them by using the icon to the right of each (icon of a cloud with a down arrow).

  • How can i set up mail rules from an iPad?

I am familiar with using rules to filter email.
From my Mac at home I acces iCloud.com and have no problems.
I went away for the long weekend, and brought only my iPad.
I started receiving spam from a new source and wanted to filter it out.
From safari, when I go to iCloud I only have three choices, none of them useful.
I have tried to use different URLs but always get redirected to /ipad_welcome/
Is there a way to do this?
Or does the post-PC device still need a PC?

I think there is not a good solution for it (yet). The best solution is to check if you mailserver provides a spam filter solution. I use Gmail and it provides a filter on the serverside. This means the mail is filtered befor I receive it on my iPad (and iPhone). You can also set up a gmail account as a exchange and push all the filtered folders.

  • Can't set up mail using a long used .mac account.

I'm trying to set up my new iPad and can't get my mail set up. I've had an account with MobileMe all the way back to when it was .Mac and I still use that account on my iMac, Powerbook and iPhone. Under Mail, Contacts, Calendars to add an account I select MobileMe. The only information I'm prompted to fill out is Apple ID and Password. No area to add Name or Description was given. I entered the Apple ID I've had for years as well as password and a blank window comes up with a Cancel and Save button. I click Save and the account shows up but has Inactive under the name.
I've deleted this account and tried again as well as trying to enter it as a .Me account. When I do that I get the message "MobileMe Mail Not Available. This Apple ID cannot be used for MobileMe Mail, but you can use it for other MobileMe services. There are two buttons to choose from.... "Don't Add" and "Add Anyway".
When I add a different .Me account, one that I've only had for a year or less I have no problems. It acts as the primary account on my device.

When it says "Inactive" that just means that you don't have that account turned on in Settings. If you don't turn it on it doesn't appear anywhere else in Mail.

  • Can't receive e-mail on ipad 3

    Can't receive e-mail on new iPad...sending not a problem...using Comcast

Here is what I did to resolve the problem:
In Mail/preferences/accounts/account information/ and at the bottom of the box there is a toggle arrow up and down to edit the outgoing mail server, check the box "use only this server" and  hit this toggle button and select "edit SMTP Server List" at the very bottom of the email names.
Select Advanced tab.  Correct and/or add usernames and passwords as needed for each email account.  Be sure to select OK each time to get the passwords to hold!  Some changes don't seem to hold unless you click OK before you move on.
To test:       Window/activity (a little windows will pop up showing activity bars)   and then "get mail" button.  This should show any problems
    Another test:  window/connection doctor
This shouldl fix both pop and imap.  so far it worked on yahoo, mobile me, gmail, hotmail, and others.  Of course, you will need to know the incoming and outgoing mail server info, user name, and passwords.
Too bad we have to go though hoops to use an email program that used to work well.  Worse yet, many may not know for days that their email isn't working.
This is easy method of setting up your email accounts but may not allow enough detail to make the mail accounts function properly in Mail 5.0:
system preferences/internet and wireless/mail, contacts, calendars/ add account

    Hi,
If your OS is Linux you can update Firefox using the Package Manager / Software Center. After opening the Manager type '''firefox''' in the search area, tick '''firefox''' in the results and apply. You may also be asked to accept additional new dependencies.
    or
You can directly download the latest version for Linux here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
It is a zip package and you have to unzip it and run the script file named '''firefox''' inside the unzipped folder. You have to go inside this folder every time to run this file or you can create a link to the '''firefox''' file on the desktop. In this case please note that the old Firefox installation will still exist and the usual links will open that instead of the new one.

  • Mailbox Server Crashed, can I use ActiveSync mail on Ipad to "recover" email

I had an Exchange 2010 server (only one), running all services have a hard crash with no backup. I was lucky that 2 days earlier setup a second AD controller, and second Exchange server in the environment.  There were no backups of the original server
(I DON'T HAVE ANY MDB FILES). I was able to get most users email back, by exporting OST to PST, then re-importing the PST file. I have 4 users who never used Outlook, only OWA. They have all their email on Ipad's. I have changed their passwords so the IPad
are not connecting to the new mail server. I need to find a way to get the email on the IPads back to the new mail server. I am afraid that if I just let ActiveSync connect, it will delete all the email on the IPad, since it is no longer on the mail server.
No mailboxes were actually deleted from the crash.  I was able to re-home them to the new Exchange server, I don't know if that make any difference.
    Thanks.

There are no official MS Office apps for the iPad.
Luckily, Apple has built a lot of the functionality into iOS5.
Go to Settings >> Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Near the top, hit Add Account.
    Select Exchange.
Fill in the details. You may need to ask your IT guys for the details if you don't know all of them.
You can use the standard Mail, Contacts and Calendar apps for those items. Tasks is handles by the Reminders app.
As James said, the functionality is more limited than the full desktop apps, but you can perform probably 80-90% of common tasks fairly easily.

  • Sister can't set up Mail on macboook running 10.7.3

    I

Sorry about the blank above. Tried to recover a post I started late last night, and it didn't work.
I sent my sister my old MacBook after booting into recovery partition and doing a clean (erased Lion partition first) install. It now runs 10.7.3.   As part of the reinstall, had to register it again, and that created an accunt for me. I then added two accounts for my sister and shipped it out to her. BTW, computer had had Apple Care, but that expired over a year ago, and I upgraded the HD and RAM since then.
My sister can't set up her main email account in Mail, even though she carefully input the credentials she has (and which work just fine for her) on her iMac and iOS devices. She even checked with her internet provider to verify that what she was inputting was correct. When she went to Apple online with her problem,  it kept telling her that the birthdate she put in was invalid.  She even tried using mine, but it didn't work. My questions are:
    1)What is causing this?
    2) Is there anything I need to do or that she can do from home -or does she have to go to her nearest Apple store's Genius Bar?
    Please advise, thanks. Faye
