Can't sort by date created in Bridge

I have raw files from two photographers that covered the same event. When I combined them in a folder in Bridge and apply view >sort>by date created, the images are only arranged in chronological order within each photographer's photos and not as a whole. How can I get both groups of photos to sort together by date created?

It should work as you expected, that is if both have correct time settings
in their dSLR set.
First try the purge cache for folder option, while pointing Bridge at the
problem folder go to the menu tools/cache/purge cache for folder and let the
cache build again for the files in this folder before you give it a try.

  • Sorting by date ala Adobe Bridge

Disclaimer: I am a complete Aperture n00b. Until now, I've used iPhoto to import my iPhone images and Adobe Bridge for everything else. In both iPhoto and Bridge, it's very obvious as to how to sort individual images by date. I am completely at a loss as to how to do this in Aperture. iPhoto imports and creates Events by date shot, but if Aperture can do this, I have no idea how to turn it on. It is importing all of the images in one batch, no matter when they're shot.
As a bit of background, I have been doing the "Picture a Day" thing this year, but I usually do all of my digital darkroom work once a month or so and then post them. As such, I need to easily see what dates the pictures were shot. I know I can set up a smart gallery and isolate images that way, but as best I can tell, it's time consuming to then go through individually by date.
An easy fix would for me to simply be able to turn on the date information in the file browser, but the only metadata I've been able to turn on is file name.
I know I must be missing something because this seems like a very basic thing to do.
Thanks in advance for any help you all can pass on!

Welcome to Aperture, From what you say i would make a folder for the year, sub folders for every month, and a project for every day. This is my exact set up and it keeps the library neat and easy to navigate, as well as being easy to find images without searches. I also keep the same structure on the HD. for the Referenced Images.
It is essential to split that one big import First of all.
To sort them by date: In Browser View go to the little Q at the top right and click. Now click Add New Rule, and click Calender on the drop down list. Click the little circle that has a minus sign in the middle to get rid of all the other search fields, you don't need just now.
Click a Date then select New Album with current images.
You can use command click, or **** click, to select multiples.
This is the important part: It is essential, that you do then split them in to Projects and don't leave them in a single Project. Projects are the the Containers for your Master Images, though they can be viewed in folders, It is only the Project that holds the master. You are best to keep them limited to about one thousand each. Keeping track of the Masters seems to cause a lot of problems for people here on the forum, but not if you Start off correct. To do this, keep the Album you just dropped in to a Project and do all your work from this. In this way you never have any duplicates in the project. You can work with gay abandon in the album and never get in to a mess that is difficult or impossible to reverse.

  • I converted a PDF to an excel sheet, but can't sort the data because of not all the merged data are in the same cell?  What do I do?

I do a sort a converted PDF to an excel spreadsheet?  The merged fields aren't the same...

Sorry, I don't understand anything.  What means "merged data" and "merged fields"?
Can you perhaps provide a screenshot of the original PDF, and the resulting Excel sheet?  See https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1070933

  • Can you sort tasks in Outlook MAC 2011 by alphabetically by date?

I can either sort by date or sort alphabetically....i want to be able to sort by date in alphabetical order - any suggestions?

    Hi Sophie,
It would be much better if you put this query on the Outlook Mac community support:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011
By the way, sorting tasks in Outlook Mac 2011 is too simple, just click on
“Tasks” from the bottom of “Navigation Pane” and accomplish sorting according the requirement.

  • Sorting by second in Adobe Bridge

For those of you familiar with sorting from multiple cameras in Bridge:
When sorting our wedding photos, I can't seem to get Bridge to sort the  Date Created down to the second. It is sorting to the minute, and with  two cameras firing at the same time, you can assume how out of whack  that makes the pics. Then I have to manually sort, which adds so much  time to my editing.
Here's a few things you should know:
My partner and I sync our cameras up to the second before every wedding. She shoots a 50D and I have a 7D.
Also, I've tried batch renaming the files with the specifics of date  time/date created/mmhhss and also millisecond and neither of those  worked.
    Any help would be appreciated!!
    Thanks so much!

My partner and I sync our cameras up to the second before every wedding. She shoots a 50D and I have a 7D.
Sorry for late responding, missed it earlier this week.
Using a 1DS3 and having had a shoot with a colleague with a 5D2. We where not accurate time synced (1 minute in between or so). Although therefore also not accurate in order but forgetting this and looking at the metadata info (IPTC core: Date created in metadata panel) it shows the time in hours, minutes and seconds and right sorted in date created. So Bridge does sort to the second and I'm not sure what you are missing.
My workflow, importing files from CF Card using Photodownloader. Convert the CR2 files to DNG, rename with shot date and sequence number (and adding metadata template plus back up original CR2 files).
When selecting the files they are in importing order (I have filename sort by default) using the date created sort order they are in correct timeline order and then can easily be renamed with an extra sequence number in front for easy sorting.
Only downside is that using PDL for ingestion sometimes when using burst shooting every now and then there are a few files from those bursts (high speed continuous) that do change there order but I suppose you don't shoot Hi Speed at a wedding
And you also did not mention what version you are using and if you have the recent update for that.

  • Can I sort on metadata?

I just posted a message asking about filtering on metadata, but I didn't want to confuse that thread with this second question:
Can I sort on metadata? For example, can I sort on "Date Time Original"?
I know I can sort on "Date Created," but that's not the same thing as the metadata's "Date Time Original" field. E.g., I have jpg files where the "Date Time Original" is in 1990 but the Date Created is in 2012. Sorting on Date Created doesn't order the files chronologically based on when the photo was taken.
    Thanks.

I have jpg files where the "Date Time Original" is in 1990 but the Date Created is in 2012. Sorting on Date Created doesn't order the files chronologically based on when the photo was taken.
To me it seems Date Time Original in Exif data from camera equals the Date Created from IPTC. This makes also some sense because exif is created using the Camera software and when you have set the date and time correctly this reflects the moment the file was created.
When using images that don't have its origin in a camera able to provide exif (analog camera or scanner etc.) you have to provide this data yourself and fill in the right places. I don't know if you were able to add this in the filed Date Time Created in an earlier version of PS file info using CS6 I can't find an editable field in the file info that is called 'Data Time Original', only date created is available.
Hence Bridge (although the options for filter and sort could be somewhat expanded) will not likely provide this option in future versions but you can always put a Feature Request for this, but if only 1 or a few people have the need for this it is not very likely to get realized I'm afraid.
So your only chance might be a script that reads your metadata and for example replaces the 'date created' data with the 'Date Time Original' data if this is in the metadata written.
You could try the dedicated Adobe Bridge Scripting Forum for this, their are some very helpful people in there:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/bridge/bridge_scripting
And make sure backing up the files before trying to alter them, if it screws things up you always have the originals to refer to.
Also a small tip that won't help you now but can do in the future. Think of a proper naming convention of your files and stick to it. Personal I rename all my files with first "YYYYMMDD" and then a short subject description followed by a sequence number for series of that same subject.
This will place your files always in a natural sort order for date. And when scanning pre digital files create a template for the metadata in Bridge with your common copyright info and use the IPTC core fields to immediately fill in the important fields like description, keywords, place and date created. You can select multiple files and use this template to ad the info in one go.

  • Mismatch in "Date Created" in File Properties vs IPTC Core

I have scanned my old photos in .jpg format.  When I try to change the Date Created (Select Photo -> Right-Click -> File Info... -> under IPTC Image -> Change the Date Created to the date the event was held), the Date Created under File properties did not change.  In effect, when I want to do a search of dates, it does its search on the Date Created in File properties.
Can I change the date on the File Properties?  If so, how.  Can this be done on a batch, like synchronization of Date Created in File Properties and IPTC Core but using the information on the IPTC core.
btw, I am using Bridge that comes part of the Photoshop CS2.
    Heeelllllppppp........

There have been several posts about changing the "date created" in Bridge.  The conclulsion is NO.  There are other programs that can do this so concentrate your efforts there (do not have a list so will have to explore).
Do not confuse the three "dates" that are in metastock.
Date Created (as set by camera when shot).
         Date File Created
         Date File Modified

  • Preserving doc "Date Created" as displayed in Windows explorer

Hello.  We've just retired an SBS and have about 2000 Word docs that have their attached templates linked to the obsolete server.  Using EditAttachedTemplates (vb.net) solves the missing template problem but introduces another.  It wipes the
Date Created - for Windows explorer purposes.
Our staff accesses all of the .docm's by windows explorer (sorted by "Date Created").  Without the template repair app, each doc takes 30 seconds to open and machines are searching for the old server.
I do not have access to the source code of the template repair app.  Also... I am not a dev and we do not employ one.  So... hypothetically, if I could find someone to alter the vb repair app, could it in theory be adjusted so that the original
"Date Created" as displayed in W7 explorer would be unchanged?

    Thank you, Paul.
    This code has following issues:
    1. Its "Last Modified" date retention line returns an error. "Object does not support this action". I worked it around using the Shell method though.
    UpdateModDT xFolder, xFile, xDT
    Function UpdateModDT(myFolder, myFile, DateTime)
    Dim objShell, objFolder
    Set objShell = CreateObject("Shell.Application")
    Set objFolder = objShell.NameSpace(CStr(myFolder))
    objFolder.Items.Item(myFile).ModifyDate = DateTime
    End Function
    2. It skips the Protected files and returns an error when it cannot write the reason in the the document from where it was run
    3. It only works on one extension type at a time, i.e. currently set for *.doc
Can you please assist on this?
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • What is "date created" and why does it change?

I have Photoshop Elements 10 that I am using with Windows XP  Service Pack 3, a Pentium 4 CPU with 3 GHz, 2 GB of RAM and 48.6 GB of free disk space.
None of the "dates created" in Properties  match the date the picture was taken. What does "Date Created" represent? Is it the date that the images are pulled into a catalog in Organizer?
I have multiple catalogs that show creation dates that are later than the date modified, (example: date created of June 2012 and a date modified of March 2012). How is it possible that the date created is later than the date modified? Shouldn't the date created be earlier than the date modified?
Also, I have had several instances in which the date created was changed again, making the system think it was a "new" image in my watched folders. Shouldn't the Date Created remain constant?  How can I keep the date created from being changed?

  • Downloaded attachments show download date as "Date Created"

I am having an issue with Mail but have also tried using my webmail ( Gmail ) and I am having the same issue. When I download an attachment ( documents, jpegs, etc ) , it does not retain the original date created, instead it displays the download date as "Date Created ". Is there anything I can do to fix this?
    Daniel

No, as far as I know, because the document is "created" as a new document (or is that recreated? when you save it to disk. This is true not only for email attachments, but to any file copied to your hard drive, and the same is true under Windows.
However, some programs save that information within the file itself, independently of your OS's file information. For example, in MS Office apps, if you go to File > Properties you can find the original date created under the Statistics tab (but note that the General tab shows the date you downloaded the file as "date created").

  • P2 ingested footage with wrong date created metadata

Hello, we're trying to standarize all of the media for our systems. Part of this includes ingesting P2 footage using Prelude and encoding it as DVCHDPro quicktime files. I know that the recommended method that adobe gives for ingesting P2 footage is to keep the file structure in tact and use the media browser function of Premiere; this, however, doesn't suit our company's needs of maintaining a relativaly NLE-agnostic media library and having quicktime compatiable discrete video clips of all our media. We're using Mac OSX operating systems, by the way.
The problem is that, when using Prelude to ingest, it seems that Prelude obliterates the "date created" metadata and file data (e.g. when selecting the "get info" on the clip itself; that file data). After ingesting a clip, if I open it in Premiere, there is no date-based metadata that matches the original record time on the .mxf file itself. Nor when I view the clip in OSX's "get info" does the "date created" panel reflect the date that the original file was created. It seems that it should be possible to write the original "date created" data to the ingested file (in the ingest panel in Prelude I can see the correct "date created" time); FCPX is able to do this when ingesting P2 media using their systems. Is there an option that I'm missing or is this simply not possible with this version of Prelude?
To illustrate: here's a screencap of the ingest panel in prelude, notice the "date created" column reads 2013-06-28T11:43:05; which is the correct record date of that clip:
However, after I ingest the clip, both within Premiere and the "get info" panel in OSX, the "date created" now refers only to my import time:

Thanks both for your responses. I checked the .mxf file "date created" and it is indeed empty (see picture).
The "date modified time" however, is correct. I do understand that when dragging media directly from the media browser in premiere that the metadata displays correctly; what I think should also happen is that when the footage is ingested and transcoded via Prelude, it should also display correct metadata. As shown in my pictures above, prelude does indeed see the correct "date created" (wherever it gets that information); it just obliterates it after it transcodes the clip; it's not available either in the "get info data" (which, somehow, FCPX does do when importing P2 media through their system) nor (most strangely) in premiere. Any settings or changes that could be made to address this would be appreciated.

I've tried several workarounds but with no luck. As metadata is present, surely this should be simple...
