Can't sync music on Ipod after formatting

I recently formatted my computer and so, lost Itunes. I installed it all over again. No problem until then. I put my music and videos from my Ipod (Fifth generation, 30go) on my computer and then on my new Itunes. Doing this, I lost over 500 songs and about 50 videos, who knows why, but that isn't the main problem. My problem is that now, I can't sync new music on my Ipod.
Also, when I plug my Ipod on my computer, the "Do not disconnect" sign appears automatically and stays there until I manually eject my Ipod. Before the formatting, the "Do not disconnect" would only appear when I was syncing something on my Ipod, and would disappear right after.
Other minor problem, time on the clock is wrong. For exemple, it showed 12:30 AM when it was 20:00.
Can anybody help me?

just had about the same thing happened to me,downloaded a few songs, went to sync them and lost about 400 songs that were already installed....now itunes says computer is not authorized to play!

  • Permissions issue:  can't sync music to ipod after installing leopard

It says I don't have enough access privileges to write to my music folder, yet I'm the admin and the music folder says I can read and write. Here's the things I've tried:
At first I thought it was an itunes problem so I re-installed itunes to no avail. Then I tried repairing permissions, no dice. Then, I was sure it was a permissions problem when I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, because it said I had "custom access" and there was an unknown user listed along with me (the admin) and "everyone." So after searching on this forum, I tried using these commands (as suggested by djhartman) in the terminal:
To set the owner and group correctly use the following command:
    sudo chown -R yourshortusername:staff ~<enter>
Now type your administrator password. (and if needed confirm that you know what you are doing)
This will remove the write permission for everyone except you.
    sudo chmod -R go-w ~<enter>
This might "break" your Drop box in Public. This will fix it again (it means set read and write for you, and write only for others)
    sudo chmod -R 733 ~/Public/Drop\ Box<enter>
To remove ALL ACLs from your homedir, use:
    chmod -R -N ~
When using the last command, I got the message "chmod: Failed to clear ACL on file controlsocket: Invalid argument," but it cleared up the "custom access" issue and got rid of the "unknown" user. So now my music folder says I can read and write, but when I hook my ipod up, itunes continues to give me the message that I don't have enough access privileges to write to the music folder.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

  • Getting music from Ipod after formatting hard drive

I had to format my hard drive recently...
The music is still on my ipod how do i get it off and into the reinstalled program... music from ipod -> ipod program
I'm not happy about the prospect of losing my music and all of my pictures

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you copied photos to your iPod using the full resolution option, enable disk use, open your iPod in "my computer" in Windows or Finder on a Mac, open the photos folder then open the "full resolution" folder and drag the photos out of that folder to your desktop. For enabling disk use look here.
    Disk Use.
If you only copied the photos as thumbnails, you can't do this so you'll need a program such as this one.

  • Can't Sync Music to iPod Touch

I am having issues syncing or adding music to my iPod Touch. So here's what happened... I was adding new music to the iPod. I select an album and drag & drop it onto my iPod Touch in iTunes to sync the music onto my iPod. While it's syncing that album I drag and dropped another album to be synced. Once I did this all syncing ended. Afterwards I can't sync anything at all onto my iPod Touch.
I've restarted my iPod by holding the power button and home button at the same time. I've turned the device off by holding the sleep button in until it gives me the option to turn the device off. I've restarted iTunes too. The only thing that temporarily helped was updating to iOS 7.1.2, but afterwards the same issues persisted.
    Specs
    iOS 7.1.2
    iTunes 11.2.2.3

Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
    no
Do the songs play in iTunes?
    yes
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

  • Can't sync music to iPod

    Hello,
Normally, when I connect an iOS device to my Mac, under the "Music" tab, I am given the option to sync music to the device. However, when I connect my daughter's iPod Touch with a USB cable, under the Music tab it looks like this:
And I can't seem to find the option to allow me to sync music. Help! This is on a Mac Mini running iTunes 10, OS X 10.7.4.

Sounds like the your daughter's iPod was synced to another computer/iTunes library. you can only sync automatically with one iTunes library/computer. You can however copy music and videos from any iTunes library/computer if you sync manually. See that method included here:

  • Can you sync music from ipod to a computer

My hard drive on my apple computer failed and was replaced. My music library is gone but I have it all on my ipod touch. Can I sync the ipod music to my Apple computer.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup copy to put everything on the new hard drive.
The music sync is one way -computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases

  • Can't sync music or podcasts after update to iOS4

Just upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS4. Since doing this, iTunes can no longer sync music or podcasts to the iPhone. Only the apps will sync. iTunes claims the files cannot be found - despite the fact that they are all listed correctly in iTunes and all play fine if I double-click on them in iTunes. I've done a complete reset of the iPhone and configured it from scratch and the problem remains. I'm at a total loss as to what to do. Everything worked fine before the update. The only possible oddity in my set-up is that the music files in iTunes are stored on another Mac in the house, mounted as a shared drive - but this hasn't caused any issues previously.
All my computers are Macs running 10.6.4 and all latest updates. Help!!

Problem solved itself - eventually. Solution was to reboot the computer and reconnect to iTunes. When iPhone was connected to iTunes a message appeared which said that the iPhone restore had been previously interrupted and did I want to resume, restart or cancel. Ironically, whilst choosing resume and restart failed every time, by selecting cancel the system proceeded to correctly sync all the music. Go figure.

  • Can't sync music on 3GS after IOS5 upgrade

Upgraded my 3gs to ios5, got an error state, restored, got "An error occurred while restoring this iPhone (-34)", but successfully restored after a couple of tries, but now I can't synch any music to the phone. My Apps, contacts, and photos are there, but no music.  When I try to synch the music, It says syncing, and "completes" but the music app shows "No Content".  I tried unchecking al music in itunes, syncing, then checking some music and resynching, thinking it my clear something out, but to no effect.  It's as if it thinks it's adding music, bt nothings there.

my problem occurred when I upgraded to IOS5 on my iPhone 4.  I received an unable to sync message that indicated that there was no space left on my iPhone; and a "Other" Capacity indicator appeared on the bottom of the iPhone device sync screen (in yellow color) and noted an overage of 12GB!  Ofcourse, prior to the upgrade I actually had 6GB free on my 32GB iPhone.  So, there is a bug.  The following link indicates a few solutions and hopefully it will answer your concern.  The link is http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1503
However, I had to restore as the first two solutions didn't work.  Furthermore, about 3.3GB of "Other" remains while I synced up.  Clearly, the problem has not been resolved.  Apple owes me and you community members a patch to fix this bug.  Basically, I have spent about two hours fixing this and I still cannot use 3.3GB of my iPhone space.

  • Can't sync music to iPhone after iOS 5 upgrade

    Help. PLEASE HELP.
So here's what happened. I finally took the plunge and upgraded my iPhone 4 to OS 5. To my surprise, everything seemed fine... until I opened the Music app and there was NO music. No playlists, no albums, NO songs. Only a message that said "No Content You can download music from iTunes." With more than 10,000 songs in my iTunes library, i have no shortage of music. So, I tried syncing it again the next night and when iTunes opened, a window popped up saying that my last restore was stopped and asked if I would like to continue so i said yes. After a few minutes of waiting for the restore to complete, i got a window saying that it couldn't finish the restore and gave me error number (-36). I tried again, and this time it looked like it loaded my playlists, but when I opened them all of the songs were greyed and I couldn't play them. I hit the forums to find an answer, and after a few solutions (such as playing a song in its entirety in the device drop down menu and then resyncing) I was able to load SOME of the songs, but about 348 would not load. I tried restoring it again... and again... and again. Nothing worked to get the last songs on the phone, and I kept either getting error messages (-36) or (-47). Finally I was about to go onto the summary page from the device menu, but I couldn't . Everytime I connect my phone to my computer and iTunes, it is stuck on the "Set Up Your iPhone" screen, so my only option is to restore... again. I'm going in circles here, people. I'm flying out of town tomorrow for a few days, and i can't bare the thought of traveling without music.

  • ITunes freezes when syncing music onto iPod after restoring

I have an iPod Touch 4th generation. This thing has become my life, but it has given me ungodly amount of problems since the day I got it. It is updated and always remains that way. Well, due to the amount of problems I had I decided to start fresh and restore my iPod. It seemed to work which was great. I slowly built things back onto it: first all my apps, then photos and onto music. When it came to my music, iTunes would seem to freeze on one song and stop syncing. This has gotten very frustrating for me.
Am I doing anything wrong? I mean, I restored it completely thinking that it would be fine and act as a new iPod again. Obviously I was very wrong.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • No music on iPod after sync

I've been having a problem with syncing music to iPod gen4 and and iPod gen3 for some time now.  There are similar issues reported in a variety of questions on this forum:  after syncing, apparently successfully via iTunes, you disconnect the iPod and the iPod appears to have no music on it.  However, I have not been able to find any that present to me a working solution, nor have a found a discussions which shares particular details of the situation that I am experiencing.
After a "no music on iPod after sync" experience, the iPod will no longer function properly after this, and you have to put it into disk mode in order to connect to the computer and "do a restore."    The first time this happened, I didn't know about restoring, and actually discarded the iPod (a gen 3) and replaced it with my first gen 4.  Now I have an additional gen 4 (my 2nd), plus I also purchased a used gen 3 to replace the one I threw away.   Each of these three devices has experienced the problem, and I can get the device functioning again after restore.   All the devices seem to be in good working shape and serve me fine; I do not believe that any of them has a hardware problem such as failing hard drive etc.
The problem of "no music on iPod after sync" can be created in a repeatable fashion by choosing the appropriate set of playlists to sync.  I visited an Apple Store genius bar twice now to discuss the issue, and the conclusion was that there possibly was a "corrupt file" that was causing the problem.  However, I can also reliably sync the music by splitting it into smaller pieces.  For example, suppose I have a group of 20 playlist folders, and I choose to sync the first 10.  This can be done without problem.  If I then choose to sync the last 10 but without the first 10, this also can be done without problem.   However, if I sync all 20 together, then I get the "no music" screen on the iPod after the sync.   So I can load and play all the music files involved with my problem.  What seems to be associated with the occurrence of a "no music" event is the volume of songs that I sync.
I am working with a large number of audio files organized into a large number of playlists arranged in a somewhat large number of playlist folders, some nested inside others.  I suspect that a cause of the problem may be the large number of files and/or playlists and/or folders.
For instance, in my latest experience, I worked with a collection of files that I have sitting all together in one playlist folder, that itself sits inside a higher level playlist folder..  In this collection there are 4358 "songs" (the audio files aren't actually music) occupying 1.68 GB of memory. So I have one playlist folder (level 1, let's say) that contains within it a playlist (sub)folder (level 2) that has within it 36 playlist folders (level 3), each with a set of playlists inside that together account for all 4358 songs, without any repetitions of the songs between playlists. Some of the playlist folders contain as many as 206 playlists.  The playlists vary in the number of songs they contain; I think there are some with just one or two, and I now there are some with at least 32 songs.
Anyway, with the above described collection, I can sync the first half of the set of level 3 playlist folders without problem.  I can sync the second half of the level 3 playlist folders without problem.  But if I sync all together, I have problems.
Any ideas as to what's going on here?

Verify you have the itunes/ipad music tab set to sync music and the correct playlists selected.

  • TS4062 I can't sync music on my computer to my ipod touch; the ipod shows up under Devices in itunes but does not show buttons (Summary etc.) when I click on it. Suggestions?

I can't sync music already on my computer to my ipod touch; the ipod shows up under Devices in itunes but does not show buttons (Summary etc.) when I click on it. I've read through all the Help tutorials but none of them say what to do if the sync options don't pop up when you highlight the device.  I've already spent way too much time trying to figure this out and it's driving me crazy!  Thanks for any help you can offer.

This is correct.  It will not show in finder.  It is not an external storage device.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  Open itunes connect ipod, do not sync, click File>Transfer Purchases
