How do I completely uninstall intego net barrier? I can't install Norton Antivirus 2012 until this is off my computer. And I can not get it off my Computer. ANyone?

Intego has their own uninstaller which is the best thing to use. Otherwise, see the following. From a practical point of view you really don't need any such software on the Mac.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

I found a fix for this, not only firefox but several other networking programs were broken as well (Outlook and IE were ok for some reason) so I reasoned that the Norton uninstall was incomplete somehow - I had done it from the add/remove programs in the control panel. Sure enough that's not enough to release Norton's tentacles in your system, there's an uninstall tool on their website (a whole set of them actually) that managed to carve it out completely and after a restart everything was back to normal. • Can't boot from cd anymore after using norton systemworks 3

It is an imac 233 , and now all that comes up on boot up is a

Recently trying to install a new hard drive by the way and to
install os 9.04. 1st says I need to update firmware but it said volume was locked and firmware won't be updated; which led me to try to unlock it with system works. What a mess.
update now it won't boot at all. Did I kill it?

    blues,
As I remember, Norton SystemWorks v3 may be the first (and last) version designed to work with OSX. It was awful. Put it away and never take it out of it's box again.
It sounds like you've got yourself into the open firmware prompt. In fact the text shown on the screen should show this.
It's un usual for Norton to force the computer to jump into Open Firmware, but type
    mac-boot
to get your mac to continue to boot into the installed OS if there are no other issues.
    It could be this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25249
if the new hard disk you've installed is greater than 8Gb. In which case you'll have to re-partition it so that the first partition is smaller than 8Gb and install your OS on that first partition. In fact it's most likely this.
Let us know how you get on.

i'm trying to run norton speed disk on my imac. so i've inserted the norton cd, hold down control C and i get a blinking folder icon which switches between the yin yang mac icon and a question mark. i've done this for decades and for some reason can't with my new mac.
does this have something to do with the fact that i've got a wireless keyboard?
from what i recall, you have to run speed disk from the cd so that the hard drive is free to be rearranged. am i doing something wrong here?

Get rid of Norton, use it for a coaster or a frisbee but not on your Mac! Do not let Norton near your X system, it will hose it!
Symantec announced almost 2 years ago, that they are no longer supporting SystemWorks or Norton Utilities for Mac. It has hosed that many systems. The latest disks are not compatible with Panther/Tiger.
If it is installed on your Mac here is a link to Uninstall Norton. Don't use the uninstaller on your Norton disk. (That uninstaller is not compatible with 10.4 Tiger)
This uninstaller works with Tiger and will find the 30 or so "invisibles" you will never find if you do it manually. However it may leave behind some files. Depending on which Norton you have installed.
Download and run Cocktail in "Interface" > "Finder" choose to see "invisibles". Or use OnyX.
Look for files like these on the top level of your hard drive:
    /Norton FS Volume 2
    /NAV Mac 800QS File
    /Norton FS Data 808K
    /Norton FS Volume
    /Norton FS Index
Find those files drag them (not command-delete) to the trash and empty it.
Get TechToolPro 4.0.6 or DiskWarrior 3.0.3 if you want to have a good utility on hand.
As hyphen says, there is also usually no need to "optimize" or defrag in X
My suggestion, if you plan to run an AV program would be ClamXav A mac friendly freeware app that is very stable with Tiger. Read the "read me" before installing and do not enable "quarintine feature". The install is just dragging the ClamXav app to your Applications folder.

  • How can I uninstall Symantec VIP Access Client?

    Hi,
Soon after getting my new Thinkpad E520 (W7 Home Premium), I uninstalled Norton Antivirus Trial and installed Microsoft Security Essentials.
But there remains in the Program Files (x86) Folder a Symantec/VIP Access Client program that pops up request for updates.
It doesn't show in  Add/Remove programs. I would like to know what this program is supposed to do.
After searching on the web, I downloaded and ran Norton Removal Tool, but VIP Access Client is still there.
Of course, I could trash the folder and scan the registry to delete as many entries as I can, but I would like to find a more elegant solution ;-)

  • Unable to uninstall Norton to update Firefox.

In trying to upgrade Firefox it said to uninstall Norton. I have not subscribed to Norton for over two years now. In the Uninstall program, Norton will not uninstall. I have clicked both uninstall and change and nothing happens, therefore I am unable to download Norton to upgrade Firefox. There must be an alternative method to uninstall Norton.

You can use https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us to remove Norton.
Then, please update Firefox to 19.0.2 [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]

  • How do i uninstall norton anti virus?

How do i uninstall norton antivirus

    Hello Pete,
I also need to uninstall Norton. This statement is on the Norton support link that you provided above with a red alert symbol: "RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all the folders created by Norton installers and any files within those folders. You shall lose all files that reside in those folders, including any you have created."  https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080427024142EN_En dUserProfile_en_us
Would you clarify what type of files that might be?
In my great ignorance, I installed Norton a couple of years ago and ran occasional whole system scans; Norton Firewall and Phishing Protection were also enabled. Could some of my personal files have ended up in a Norton folder? (I did not have the Norton Identity Safe program or Norton Zone....not even sure what the Zone is).  I don't really want to search for and open Norton folders to check on files in case that would cause more problems. I went to the Norton Support site and Norton Forum, and didn't see an answer to my question. I didn't want to register for their forum unless absolutely necessary, but I am willing to do whatever research is needed. I did find this link from another Apple Support Community discussion but it doesn't say what type of personal files could be lost: http://www.macworld.com/article/1150466/uninstall_norton.html
A related question: At this time, I only have TM backup. It was when I was was learning how to create a bootable clone with CCC that I learned that I shouldn't have installed Norton. (I'm "behind the times" and trying to catch up.) Should I totally uninstall Norton AV before downloading and running Carbon Copy Cloner?  Or since I have now "disabled" Norton's activity, is it ok to download and run CCC and then deal with the Norton. I read in another post that this Norton uninstall is not "trivial":

Thank you so very much for any insight you can provide!

  • No Norton SystemWorks for Mac Pro?

In 2 days I will receive my Mac Pro 3.0 GHz and having been a very happy user of Norton SystemWorks 3.0 and Norton Utilities for 6 years, I'm concerned about Symantec not having a Universal upgrade. In those 6 years I never lost a single file and my machine worked great because of Norton Disk Doctor and Speed Disk. Please, does anybody know of any similar software as reliable as Norton? Please help, this is very important. Thanks

I agree, Norton has been a headache for us Mac users. It used to be good and we needed it, but now it's really a pain in our collective butts and obsolete.
The new method for keeping a machine up and running is called "cloning", which software is used to image the boot drive to another, which one disconnects and keeps safe. (copying all files doesn't work)
This way if something, like the OS hangs or the drive fails, one can hook up the clone and hold option and boot right off it like nothing happened. One can then repair/recover/even reverse clone back onto the original drive. Downtime is minimal. Your whole drive clone is done in minutes for 250GB drives on Firewire 800. Some auto clone software will only change the updates, making it even faster.
The best free info I've found for cloning is over at the Carbon Copy Cloner forums, their "before you clone" is very helpful. I advise Erase w/Zero all brand new drives one time to eliminate any possible bad sectors before your data is laid by the driver software and found out too late the sector is bad.
Of course a Mac Intel version of cloning software must be used.
Also search Apple for DejaVu, they are supposed to come out with a Intel version soon. It's a System Preference pane that combines auto-cloning/auto-backup and does it's thing even if your logged out and/or over a network. Very Sweet.
Once your cloning properly, like before installation, experiment or auto-weekly, your going to find out that a lot of these "utilites" are really a wasted effort. You'll immeditalty just grab the clone, option boot off it and grab your files and reverse clone. Go out to lunch while the cloning is going on. It's really painless and a lifesaver if the drive dies one morning or you need to "go back" to a earlier version of the OS before it broke a app on you.
Also by reverse cloning the whole drive, your automatically optimizing and defragmenting your boot drive (the files that didn't get done by Mac OS X automatically) . Do option boot the clone to check it carefully before reverse cloning of course.
I second OnyX too, cheap, effective and cleans everything out if need be, like a corupted cache for instance.
Again make sure your using MacTel versions.

  • Re: Uninstalled Norton Internet Security - no connection to the Internet

I have the Satellite A210-11P laptop.
Recently I uninstalled Norton Internet Security after the subscription expired and since then my laptop will not connect to the internet.
The internet itself is working fine. I would appreciate your help and advice.
    Kris

You don't need Norton Cd disk, you can download it here:
    http://liveupdate.symantec.com/upgrade/NIS09EN.exe
Try to do what I mentioned above in previous post
if it doesn't fix it, I think the best solution is to reinstall Windows than fix the problem. You have to get Windows Vista Dvd disk, you can borrrow it from your friends or download from the Internet.
After that, you have to back up all the necessary files, otherwise they will be wiped during installation. To boot from Windows Dvd disk you have to enter the Bios and make some settings.(To enter the Bios, press F2 on powering the computer up) In Boot menu, you have to choose Cd/Dvd boot as the 1st boot device and press F10 to save and exit. The computer will restart.
Then, it will start from Dvd disk asking you to press any key, you can press any key. The installation will be initialized, at middle of instalaltion you wil be asked to enter the Windows serial number, user's name and etc...
After the complete installation, enter the Bios and choose Hdd as the 1st boot device and press F10.
Then, go to to the Toshiba driver page, choose your model, and download all drivers.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
For now, do what I mentioned above. How to install drivers (driver installation order) and optimize system, I will explain later.

  • How do I uninstall Norton AntiVirus so I don't get msg after startup?

Last year I received an iPod Nano, and then found out I needed to upgrade my OS because my version of iTunes wasn't compatible with the Nano. Ever since I've been getting a msg saying to reinstall Norton AntiVirus after I startup. I have a 2003 iBook G3 (and I don't know where I put the disk to reinstall). I've tried to drag to the trash the applications, including the startup items from the library, but nothing has worked. And apparently you can't trash some Norton AntiVirus items because "they are in use". How can they be in use if they need to be reinstalled? How do I get this app off my computer so it doesn't pause on the reinstall msg each time??
This is part one of a two part dilemma...

  • Used control panel to uninstall Norton

This A665-S5187X came with a pre-installed 30 trial of Norton which I uninstalled using the control panel. I have installed McAfee and I am not having problems.  This forum indicates there is a special tool that you can download to uninstall Norton.  Will I have any problems having done it the old fashion way?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

A program called Revo Uninstaller will use a manufacturers uninstall program but then it will also discover if any other files or registry entries have been installed and give you the option to uninstall those as well. This is a free program available at http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html
Read the reviews, decide for yourself, but the program works very well at removing all traces of any program you wish to uninstall. Plus you can use it instead of Control Panel if you wish.
