Can't update iPhoto because of wrong Apple ID?

I have a client that just purchased iphoto for the iphone. Now his mac says he can't update the iphoto 9.1.5 on it because he's logged in with the wrong apple account? Anyone see this or have ideas? He's running a MacBook Pro with OS X.7.3.
The exact error message he's getting is from the App store:  "To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it.". The iphoto that's installed on his mac is from a site-licensed iLife CD that we have. No one else is reporting this problem so its got to be restricted to his machine.
Nothing shows up in the Software Updates either.
Thanks,
thefishyfew

Because the iPhoto was installed from Disk  you update via Software Update
If you have moved iPhoto from the default location (i.e. into a Folder) then the updater won't find it. Move it back.
If you have renamed iPhoto, the updater won't find it. Change it back.

  • Cannot update apps because of wrong Apple ID!

    Hi,
I bought a new MacBook from Apple Store yesterday and updated to Yosemite. There are updates available for iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, Keynote and GarageBand but I can't update them. The following error occurs:
"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
I don't know how to deal with this. If the Apple ID is not mine!!! so how did I update the OS? It is just me that used the laptop and the only Apple ID that is used in this computer is mine, if the updates are not applicable for this Apple ID why does the Apple Store show them to me?!

Please test after each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes. Keep in mind that no one here represents Apple or can help with customer-service issues.
    Step 1
A purchased app can only be updated by signing in to the App Store with the same Apple ID that was originally used to buy it. There's no way around that limitation, which also applies to free apps. If you can't sign in with the buyer's ID, delete the app and reinstall it. You'll have to pay for it again, if applicable.
    Step 2
If you get the alert when trying to update a bundled iLife app, select the Purchases page in the App Store and locate the app in your purchase history. If there's a button marked ACCEPT on the right, click it.
If you have a used Mac, the bundled apps were linked to the original owner's Apple ID and can't be transferred to you. Reportedly, customer service has issued redemption codes to some second owners who asked, but it's not guaranteed.
    Step 3
If you're trying to update iLife or iWork apps that were installed from a purchased DVD, or if you have a refurbished Mac bought directly from Apple, contact App Store customer service for a redemption code. You may be asked for the part number of the DVD.
    Step 4
From the App Store menu bar, select
              Store ▹ View My Account
Enter your Apple ID password at the prompt. At the lower right corner of the window that opens, click the Reset button. Close the window.

  • Can't update iPhoto, because Mac is part of Up-to-Date Program

I had some interesting mail traffic with Apple, but now I am stuck.
I bought a Macbook Pro early August this year. When I open my App-Store it says that I have one update for iPhoto. When I click the update-button, it says that I have to buy the product. I mailed Apple to ask why I can not update, since I bought my Mac after Lion was released and I should have the rights to download any update for the software that comes with it. After a long conversation the status quo is: I either have a refurbished Mac, which is not the case, or my Mac is part of the Up-to-Date program. This means that initially Leopard was installed on my computer and Apple just changed the OS to Lion. All good with me, but I ordered a Macbook with Lion, not one with an updated system that causes problems, ie gives apple more money since I have to buy software now.
Can I get a new Mac with Lion as the initial OS or can Apple give me some codes that allow me to get the updates for free?
    Thanks for any reply.

If you purchased iPhoto through the MacApp store (MAS) then you can update via the MAS. There have been some bugs in how the update is displayed in the MAS. The key is - where did you get iPhoto from - the MAS or via the MBP when you purchased and iPhoto was already installed on the MBP.

  • Can't update IPhoto because application not found?

I have had the latest iPhoto until yesterday when I did something dumb? then I couldn't open iPhoto anymore. I did create a new library, but discovered that the version of iPhoto I can now open is only a 2. Whenever I try to update to iPhoto 5 or 6, the screen says "you cannot install iPhoto update on this volume. An eligible iPhoto application was not found in the location / Applications/iPhoto.app" when I try to install it onto the hard drive. I'm an amateur at this and would surely appreciate some help. I don't want to be stuck with a version 2! I would also like to be able to import all my pictures back.

    Hi lori,
From the beginning: We just bought this intel two months ago. I believe it came equipped with the latest iLife and therefore the latest iPhoto. The technician at the store booted up everything from our old broken iBook, which had older versions of everything (though I don't think the iPhoto was THAT early of a version.)
Recently, I set up a new user and I tried to copy (drag over) my old photo library from my iBook backup file, because this new user didn't have any pix on its iPhoto. When I tried to do that, I believe the computer asked me some questions, like I'm agreeing to certain terms of iPhoto. I thought this was required process under a new user. I really didn't pay attention to it and just clicked 'agree'. Then I couldn't open iPhoto anymore because it said I had done some changes to iPhoto and needed to reopen with a later version. I read some of your other posts and tried to create a new library, which I succeeded in doing. But now it's version 2. Really strange and frustrating.
I'm assuming that the latest iLife is on my computer already? We don't think our computer came with the CD/DVDs.
I SURE appreciate your help thus far! It's all new to me.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite,  Created new apple ID as couldn't remember last one now can't update iPhoto receive message this update not available for this apple Id either because it was bought by a different user or item refunded or cancelled.

upgraded to Yosemite and now can't update Iphoto or Imovies receiving message this update not available for this apple ID because it was bought by a different user or item refunded or cancelled.  Is there an easy fix

Unfortunately, anything obtained at the app store remains tied to the Apple ID used to obtain it forever. You will either have to start over with your new ID or try to recover the original ID.

I can't update software because a message appears that I have to log with the same Apple ID that was used to purchase them: iMovie, Garage Band, iPhoto, but those apps came with OSX Lion.

  • HT1338 I can't update iPhoto or iMovie on used Macbook Pro, the store asks me to log in with the Apple ID of the previous owner.

I bought this late 2011 Macbook Pro and can not update iPhoto or iMovie because the store asks me to log in with the previous owners Apple ID. What should I do? I don't want to purchase the apps.

I'm not sure on that. My macbook pro came with snow leopard. So If I was going to sell it, the person would have the os disk and the applications disk(iLife). I'm pretty sure that a computer that comes with Lion has the iLife apps tied to it through the mac app store regardless of how many different people own the computer (all you need is your own apple id). If I try to delete any of my iLife apps I get an error messege telling me it's not possible. There might be a way to do it with a terminal command, but that is way out of my league. Well this is a learning experience for everyone. If the person who sold you the computer said they did not have the Microsoft Office for mac disk or product key code, it should have brought your purchase price down a bit. I think the cheapest copy is about $120.  I'm sorry I can't help you with everything. Good Luck.

  • I recently updated to Mavericks.  I can't update iPhoto.  It states that I need the original apple ID when the computer was purchased?

I can't update iPhoto or iMovie after upgrading to Mavericks.  It stated that the Apple ID and password were not the same that were used to purchase the software?

    The Andyman,
are you the original purchaser of your MacBook Pro? Have you associated your MacBook Pro with the same Apple ID which you’d used to purchase iPhoto and iMovie?

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
    Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
    Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • I can't update iPhoto. Help?

I tried to update iPhoto and I can't because the wrong apple ID is automatically filled in (appears grey) and I cannot change it. Although the wrong apple ID is an email address that is recognized by my apple ID account (like my icloud email and backup email), it is not the email address that I use as my apple ID. I have tried entering the password for my regular apple ID as well as the password for the email address associated with the wrong apple ID that is appearing.  I've restarted my computer hoping that it was a glitch. Still no luck. Any suggestions?

Delete and redownload iPhoto. This won’t affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID.
These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the applications.
please help me to fix this problem
    Thanks
    Krishna.

You need to either delete and buy them, or get whoever holds that Apple ID to tell Apple to release them. On a Mac, deleting the applications won't affect their data, but that should be backed up anyway.
