Can't Update iPhoto or iMovie

Brand New Macbook Pro running 10.8.2, has an update for iphoto and imovie but when I go to update it in the appstore it gives me this: "To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it." My dad bought it, so he put his apple ID in and gave the SAME message.
Any Ideas on to how to fix this? Thanks!

I can't update iPhoto or iMovie.  All others update OK.  message pop up: "There was an error in the App Store" (18)

Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store and try updating your apps.

  • HT1338 I can't update iPhoto or iMovie on used Macbook Pro, the store asks me to log in with the Apple ID of the previous owner.

I bought this late 2011 Macbook Pro and can not update iPhoto or iMovie because the store asks me to log in with the previous owners Apple ID. What should I do? I don't want to purchase the apps.

I'm not sure on that. My macbook pro came with snow leopard. So If I was going to sell it, the person would have the os disk and the applications disk(iLife). I'm pretty sure that a computer that comes with Lion has the iLife apps tied to it through the mac app store regardless of how many different people own the computer (all you need is your own apple id). If I try to delete any of my iLife apps I get an error messege telling me it's not possible. There might be a way to do it with a terminal command, but that is way out of my league. Well this is a learning experience for everyone. If the person who sold you the computer said they did not have the Microsoft Office for mac disk or product key code, it should have brought your purchase price down a bit. I think the cheapest copy is about $120.  I'm sorry I can't help you with everything. Good Luck.

  • How can I update iPhoto and iMovie on a different apple id without having to buy the apps again?

I started up my macbook pro 2 years ago using someone else's apple id. I just recently updated my software to OS X Yosemite and now I can't open iPhoto & iMovie.  It says I have to download the latest version. How can I download it using my own apple id without having to purchase it?

Go to the Mac App Store main page, choose Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and see what they say.

  • Can't update iPhoto and iMovie.

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro Retina, and once everything was set up, the Mac App store tells me I have updates for iPhoto and iMovie. However, when I tried updating them, I get the follwong message: You have updates available for other accounts. To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it.
I only have one iTunes account for the past several years, and I just bought this laptop. Anyone have any solutions?

    Might be pirated apps...

  • Can not update iPhoto and iMovie

With the OS update, I can no longer open/use iPhoto.  When I try to update in the App Store, I receive this message:
"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
I only have one apple ID, which I have successfully used for every apple computer, ipod and ipad since the ipod 1.  I personally removed the cellophane wrap from the box my macbook air came in, so no one else logged in before me...Can anyone offer a suggestion on getting around this issue?  At the very least, I would like to be able to access my pics in iPhoto.
I am not an IT pro, so if the processes is involved, please provide instructions for dummies!
    Thanks!

  • Can't update iPhoto and iMovie in Mountain Lion

I get this message" To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it"- I have an apple account and have logged out and back on repeatedly, but still get the same message. I just received an new MacBook with iMovie and iPhoto already installed- but not Mountain Lion, so I purchased Mountain Lion, and now seem to be locked out of these updates.
    Any ideas?  Thanks

As fellow User leonieDF noted in another thread:
To upgrade your preinstalled iLife applications you have to accept them as purchased with your AppleID.
Launch the App Store and sign into your account. Then go to the "Purchased" tab. Here the iLife applications should be waiting for you to be accepted. Click the "Accept" button. This will register them to your current account. Now you should be ablet to upgrade them using the App Store.
    See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.
    Hope this helps

  • I recently updated to Mavericks.  I can't update iPhoto.  It states that I need the original apple ID when the computer was purchased?

I can't update iPhoto or iMovie after upgrading to Mavericks.  It stated that the Apple ID and password were not the same that were used to purchase the software?

    The Andyman,
are you the original purchaser of your MacBook Pro? Have you associated your MacBook Pro with the same Apple ID which you’d used to purchase iPhoto and iMovie?

  • Upgraded to Yosemite,  Created new apple ID as couldn't remember last one now can't update iPhoto receive message this update not available for this apple Id either because it was bought by a different user or item refunded or cancelled.

upgraded to Yosemite and now can't update Iphoto or Imovies receiving message this update not available for this apple ID because it was bought by a different user or item refunded or cancelled.  Is there an easy fix

Unfortunately, anything obtained at the app store remains tied to the Apple ID used to obtain it forever. You will either have to start over with your new ID or try to recover the original ID.

I can't update iPhoto, GarageBand nor iMovie, and iPhoto is the only one I can't open at all. I bought my Macbook half a year ago and when I try to update the Apps it says it's being modified and then that there was an error with Apple Store ):

There is an issue with update servers today, so you'll have to wait anyway.

  • Can't open iPhoto after iMovie 10.0.3 update

    Hi,
I can't open iPhoto after iMovie 10.0.3 update with message:
    iPhoto is being updated
iPhoto can not be opened while it is being updated.
But problem is, that nothing idicate there is some iPhoto update.
    Please help Apple.
    Pavel

I don't understand why first update has almost 2GB and there is also second update which has around 300MB, so I can see two iMovie updates in App Store - Updates.

  • HT2476 I got my Macbook Pro from another user (different apple id) and now i'm not able to update iPhoto and iMovie. What can i do?

I got my Macbook Pro from another user (different apple id) and now i'm not able to update iPhoto and iMovie. What can i do?

You need to contact Apple and transfer that computer, the serial number, into your name and your Apple ID. Then you should be able to update the included Apple Apps from the App store. No need to Re-buy them again.
    Caveat to the above.
If your Mac did not originally come with Lion Preinstalled, early releases of early 2011 models and older, and originally had Snow Leopard installed the original owner should of supplied the Mac OS X System Discs with the system. If that person didn't you should order them from Apple at a small fee, and don't lose them.

  • Unable to update iPhoto and iMovie?

When i try to update iPhoto and iMovie, this first message appears: "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID - This update is for an app downloaded with a different Apple ID. Sign in with that Apple ID and try again" so i press ok and a second message appears: "We could not complete your request - There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (100)"
Can someone explain me what this error means? and what can i do to fix it?
    Thank you

It means what it says: The apps were bought or installed by someone with a different ID to yours. So, in effect, these are belong to that person and you can't update them.
This can arise if you've bought a second hand machine, or if you've bought an open box machine, or even if the Mac was set up for you by the shop where you bought it. Or, if you used one Apple ID to set up the machine and are using a different one now. Of course, it can also be caused by installing pirated software.
    So, what to do:
Where did you get the machine? If it was second hand, or open box then you need to get back to the vendor.
If you used a different Apple ID then sign in with that one.
And, if the software is pirated then delete it and purchase legally.
    Other than that:

  • I'm having trouble updating iPhoto and iMovie.

This has been an ongoing issue that I just get aggravated and stop trying for awhile.  Updated to OS X Mavericks and now I can't even access iPhoto.  It says this version can't be used with OS X.  Everytime I try to update iPhoto and iMovie, I get a message saying it was purchased using another ID.  I bought the computer brand new and set it up with the one and only ID I have.  iPhoto and iMovie were preinstalled.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I do NOT want to delete them, pay to download them and then request a refund because I don't want to lose all of my photos.  I didn't worry about it much until my husband did the OS X Mavericks update and now iPhoto isn't compatible to even open anymore.  Please help!

    Congratulations!
Everything is great---except when alerted to updates for iMovie and/or iPhoto I'm instructed: "To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it".
NO need to re-purchase. Launch the App Store from the Applications folder or dock icon. Follow as the alert instructed, i.e., sign in with your Apple ID and password. Click on the Updates icon (near the top of the App Store window). The Updates window will list iPhoto and iMovie. Click the UPDATE button for each.
Note: This is based on my experience with having iLife 11 on disk prior to getting a new MBP last July.)
    Hope this helps.
