Can't update my Aperture 3.0.3

I can't open my Aperture Library.  I also can't up date it.  I bought my Aperture as a Trial that was upgraded.  I had it named Aperture 3 Trial for most of its existance but just changed it to Aperture after checking this site.  I still don't get any updates available when I choose Software Update from the Apple. The Aperture is version 3.0.3 and I have just moved them to a new computer that is running Mountain Lion.  When I put Aperture 3.0.3 on the new machine I could not open my Aperture library.  Now I can't update the library.  I don't have the original serial number for the application and can't open it. Only about 8,000photos of my kids from age 1-7 on there....  Any suggestions?  Do I need to buy a new Aperture?

What is with the old machine? Can you launch Aperture there at all? For example on a new empty Aperture library? Then use the the command "Aperture > About Aperture" from the main menu bar to show the "About" panel and take a note of the serial number shown there. Write it down.
I still don't get any updates available when I choose Software Update from the Apple.
What is the MacOS X version on you old computer? Is Aperture installed in the Applications folder?
When I put Aperture 3.0.3 on the new machine I could not open my Aperture library.  Now I can't update the library.  I don't have the original serial number for the application and can't open it
You need to update Aperture on the new machine, before you try to launch it on your new machine.
Have you installed Aperture by running the trial or by copying the Application? Run again the Aperture Trial installer on the new machine.
Download the Aperture Trial version from here:     Aperture 3.1 Trial
Now run the Aperture trial installer on your new mac and upgrade immediately (using Software Update from the menu). Then launch Aperture and unlock it with the serial number you retrieved from your old mac from the "Aperture" about-panel.

  • Can't Update to  Aperture 2.1.4 on Snow Leopard

I fresh installed Aperture 2 to my Macbook, running Snow Leopard. When I launch the app it says "You can't use this version of Aperture with this version of OS X."
I understand I need to update to Aperture 2.1.4 for it to work with Snow Leopard. But when I try to install the update it says: "Aperture 2.0 or later required to install this software."
What do I do? I can't download and install the full version of the 2.1.4 trial because Apple took it down.
    Thanks!

I had already deleted the .plist and it didn't make a difference.
I got it working though. I downloaded the Aperture 2.1.4 Trial linked to at the bottom of this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11645688
The trial wouldn't install (even after I Appzapped my previous Aperture 2 install). The install would run, say complete, but nothing would be added to the Applications folder.
I eventually went into the private/var/db/receipts and delete the Aperture files.
    It installed fine after that.

  • HT1083 My current version of Aperture is 1.5.6  My operating system is 10.7.5  How can I update my Aperture?  Aperture 3.0 requires operating system 10.9  Can i update to a lower Aperture?

My current version of Aperture is 1.5.6  My operating system is 10.7.5  When I try to update Aperture, it goes to Aperture 3 which requires operating system 10.9  Can I upgrade to a lower version of Aperture?

With MacOS X 10.7.5 you can run Aperture 3.4.5, see:   http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1657
Only, you cannot buy it from the AppStore. Try to buy a boxed retail version from Amazon or similar.
This will install an early version of Aperture, Aperture 3.1.x or Aperture 3.0.    You can update it from the Support page, using the link above to Aperture 3.4.5.
But it would be more economical to upgrade your Lion to Mavericks and to buy Aperture from the AppStore, if it is feasable for you.

  • Old Apple ID lost, can't update to Aperture 3.5

I downloaded Aperture onto my computer from an Apple ID that I no longer use. The email tied to that ID is inaccessible to me now. I (apparently) forgot the password to the Apple ID, and can't have a verification email sent to it.
How delighted I was to find, then, that Mavericks would bar me from using the 3.4 version of Aperture! Is there NO way to access the update apart from my old (inacessible) Apple ID? If not, why isn't there? Could Apple go ahead and make that possible?
    Thanks for you help!

Click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance.

  • Can not update from Aperture 3.1.2 to 3.1.3

Told to update this application to sign into account used to purchase it.  Check with emails, and emails corresponde with normal mac account email.

Another user changed Aperture to read Aperture 3. Of course if did not update as the app needs to be named simply Aperture. BUT, when he changed it back to Aperture, he was able to update.
Maybe there is an invisible character in there like a space or something.
If that doesn't work I would contact the App Store Support.

Did you move Aperture from your /Applications folder, or create a subfolder you put it in? Move it back to /Applications.

    Hi all,
I was getting messages that my Aperture Library was full, so made an appointment at my closest Mac store, but have to wait 2 days. They advise you to update saoftware before coming in, so I updated to Aperture 5.3.1. When I open it, I'm asked to update my library. When I select that option, I'm told that my library is full. Now I can't access my library at all. What should I do to access my library? Do I have to uninstall 5.3.1 and reinstall an older version?
Another problem I have recently encountered ... all the up and down scrollers on various screens have disappeared. They reappear fleetingly when I use my up and down arrowa, but I can't always catch them. How do I get my scrollers back?

Thank you so much for your patient guidance and screen captures.
    You are welcome.
My external hard drive is properly formatted for Aperture, so I am currently copying my Aperture library to it. That will take hours since it is copying 101 GB.
    o.k.
I understand that I need to clean some space on my internal hard drive and reformat the Aperture library to get back in operation.
You need to upgrade the Aperture library to be used with Aperture 3.5.1.  That will happen automatically, when you first double click the copied lirary to open it in Aperture.
I'll also need to back up my external drive with a new external drive if I make space on my internal drive by removing some photos from there and store them on my current external drive.
What do you use for backup? If you are using TimeMachine it is better to have only the Time Machine backup on the Time Machine drive . In that case would I put the Aperture library and other data on a new drive and keep the old drive for backup.

  • I've moved my Aperture library to another computer, and masters are referencing an old path name.  How can I update these references?  Reloctating masters does not work in this case :(

I've moved my Aperture library from one computer to another using Finder.
I merged the library with one which was already on the computer.
Now, the photos I imported have reference to the old path name on my old computer.
How can I update these references as "Relocate Masters" does not work in this case?

Just one suggestion to be able to reconnect all at once:
Create a smart album containing the images with missing masters:
File -> New ->  Smart Album,     and add a rule: File Status is "Missing"     (or File Status is "offline")
Then select the images in this album and go to the File menu:
and select:   File -> Locate referenced File
If you are lucky, Aperture will reconnect all at once, if you point the first image version to its counterpart.

  • Can not update aperture 3.1, wrong app store account

I have recently upgraded to Mavericks, and now can not open Aperture, version 3.1.
I tried upgrading to version 3.5, but the app store says I have the wrong apple account for this app.  I only have one Apple account, and all other applications upgrade successfully with it.
Aperture was purchased in a box in version two some years ago, and has been upgreaded a few times, by downloading the upgrade and installing.
I have also moved to a new Mac Pro since the last time I upgraded.
I can find no way to upgrade Aperture, and can no longer use it.  It's essential, I'm a photographer.
    Kind Regards,
    Michael Hund

    Micheal,
you can download updaters for all versions, but Aperture 3.5.  But the manual upgrade should enable you to upgrade to a version that will run with Mavericks at least, even if it will not let you upgrade to 3.5.
On my laptop at home I have Aperture 3.4.5 already
Does Aperture 3.4.5 run with Mavericks, and can you at least open your Aperture library and continue to use Aperture?
The update to Aperture 3.5 is handled very differently from all other updates. What Apple is doing, is transferring your Aperture registration key to an AppStore licence bound to your AppleID.
If you cannot update and get a warning, that your Aperture is tied to a different account, could mean, that there is a problem with your Aperture serial number. I suspect, if someone else had used your serial number to activate Aperture and upgraded it at the AppStore, you cannot use the same serial number again with your own AppleID. Compare the serial number you are seeing in Aperture's "About Aperture" panel with the ones on your Aperture upgrade boxes.  And make sure, that you are signed into the App Store with the same Apple ID on all your Macs, when you are trying the update.
if there should be a problem with the registration code, contact Apple and ask for a replacement serial number:  Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers
Another frequent problem with upgrading Aperture is, that it only seems to be possible, if your main system language is set to "English". Try to set it temporarily to English, while trying to upgrade.

  • TS2518 how do I update my Aperture 3? I can't find where to download it.

how do I update my Aperture 3? I can't find where to download it?

What is your current Aperture version? And how did you buy Aperture originally?
If you bought it from the App Store, you should see it in the "Updates" tab of the App Store window; if you bought it differently use "Software Update" from the "Apple" menu.
Software update will only work, if Aperture is installed in the Applications folder, not a subfolder of this folder, and if it has not been renamed. It must simply be called "Aperture".

  • Software Update, Now I can't run my Aperture 3!

I recently backed up my Aperture 3 Library, then ran a Software Update on my imac. Now when I try to open Aperture, it says: "Your library needs to be upgraded to work w/ this version of Aperture." I just upgraded to Aperture 3 last year. What can I do to use my current program w/out upgrading or reinstalling?
    Thanks in Advance!
    MCH

3.1.3 was for better integration to Lion update.  below is the release notes for it as to what it upgraded.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2518
Any update is a minor increment and fixes bugs and can provide more minor features.  This is at no cost to you just need the internet and update the aperture though your computer may have already uploaded the latest above patch and installed it and it may have been a while since you opened aperture.  In this case by following the instructions and upgrade the library it moves it to the new version.

  • I can't upgrade my Aperture libraries since update to 3.3 (3.3.1)

Since I update my Aperture to the 3.3 version (included the latest update which is 3.3.1 I think) I'm unable to upgrade my libraries, which are located on 2 external HDs, via USB. My macbook has only 11.68 GB of free space, and one of the libraries is about 36 GB.
Everytime I try to upgrade any of the libraries by the time the progress bar is up to 60% a window appears with the next message: The library “Aperture Library” is open in (null).
I have tried everything I read on the discussions about upgrade to 3.3, but nothing works!
    - Repair Permissions. Did it many many times.
    - Repair Database. Did it, but tried more than one time and sometimes the same error appears while trying to do this repair.
    - Rebuild Database. Never had the chance to do this because always send my first to upgrade the library and then the error appear again.x`
Please, somebody help me. What can I do? Should I wait until apple update to 3.3.2?
I have weeks trying to solve this issue.

Did you look at the thread that tdoyle pointed to? And did it help?
If you ctrl-click your Aperture Library, then select "Show Package Contents" you will see folders like this inside the package:
Open the folder "Database" inside this package, then the folder "apdb". There should be a file called lockfile.pid. This file contains the process id of the program currently using this Aperture Library. Delete this file and then Aperture should be able to use the library again.

  • Can't update Aperture 3.0 to 3.1.2 downloaded via Firefox.

Hi I'm new to Apple and Apple software. Thinking about turfing my Windows but having second thoughts with this update of Aperture 3.0. I have minimac OSX10.6.3 and Aperture 3.0. I experienced problems with Aperture 3.0 and noted that the update 3.1.2 would solve the issues. Downloaded the 3.1.2 update. Copied the 398mb file to minimac and tried to update Aperture. The error msg occurred "wrong version of OS." I checked http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2518 and it says Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later. Can anyone help?

If it says it applies to OS 10.5.8 and 10.6.6 and you are running OS 10.6.3 then your version does not apply.
You will need to update your OS first to 10.6.6 as that is the requirement you have stated.
After that, applying the Aperture update should proceed without error.
P.S. Use software update to ensure you get the right updates rather than downloading from the webpage.

  • HT4007 What happened to my keywords? Since the last update of aperture I can't see my keywords anymore! Who will help me find them back?

What happened to my keywords? Since the last update of aperture I can't see my keywords anymore! Every photo (1000s of images) had several keywords, but they're all gone. (Or at least I can't see them anymore.) Who will help me find them back?

You need to enable the display for metadata in Browser and Viewer.
There are several places how whereyou can turn it on; for example, from the main menu bar "view" menu:
View > Metadata display > Viewer > Show Metadata
View > Metadata display > Browser > Show Metadata
You need to configure the Metadata shown in these overlays.
    Use
View > Metadata display > Browser > Customize
Enable all tags you want in the left column of this panel. The "keyword" are enabled in the "Content" section of the left colum.

  • Can't update Aperture 3.2 to 3.2.1

For some reason (or the other) I just can't, as the subject line reads, update my Aperture from 3.2 to 3.2.1.
    I keep getting:
"File got corrupted while downloading" (or something)
Which is odd as everything else I update via Apple Updater works fine - iTunes 10.5.1 came down without any problems during the same session...
This is VERY annoying and started after I updated to Lion some time back. I have tried for a good couple of weeks now
The same problem arised when I tried to download (and update) both my iPhone 4 and iPad 1 gen which I finally got updated via Apples website rather than the Software update and by restoring the devices.
Is there anyway I can get Aperture updated without getting the annoying Error message?
    Thanks...

This is when you double click the dmg file or when you are doing the actual install or during the download?
Could you post a screen shot of the actual error window?
Just tried downloading the dmg that the link I posted above points to and it loaded and installed ok. So either you have a something strange going on on your Internet connection or else something on your system is messing you up.
After you get back with the answers to the questions above we'll see what else we can do.
