Can't view photos on dvd in iphoto 11

I have several dvd's with iphoto libraries on them that I burned with iphoto 09 or earlier.  When I insert the dvds into a computer with iphoto 11, the dvd shows up with the correct title, but it says "no photos" where the photos should be displayed.  The photos are still there, because if I go up into import, iphoto 11 will allow me to import the photos, but that's a pain as the thumbnails in the import menu are so small.  These dvd's all still work properly when inserted into my laptop running iphoto 09. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

The library on the CD is not a full library but one that can only be partially used by iPhoto from within iPhoto.
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Insert the disk with the mini library into the optical drive and see if your can import those photos into the test library.  Report back with the results.

So it sounds like you are trying to burn a DVD with photos on it so the photos can be either transferred to or displayed on a Windows PC, is that correct?
For the purposes of this I am going to assume you are using iPhoto '11.
Gather the photos you want to burn to DVD in one album in iPhoto. This is not absolutely necessary but it sure makes things easier for me.
Select that album, then go to the File menu and select Export...
In the dialog that shows up, select the File Export tab. Select the setting you want to use for export. Click the Export button.
Another dialog will show up. Set the location to Desktop and click the New Folder button. Name the folder something nice and descriptive and click the Create button.
Click the OK button. Quit iPhoto as the rest of this work will be done in the Finder.
You will now have a folder on your desktop with that nice descriptive name. Find it and select it. Go to the File menu and from it select Burn "Descriptive folder name" to Disc...
Insert a blank DVD when prompted.
Let the finder complete the work and eject the disc afterwards.
    That's it. Best of luck.

  • After downloading yosemite, can't import photos from camera to iPhoto

After downloading Yosemite  10.10.1 to my Macbook Air, I can't import photos from camera to iPhoto. Had no problem before. It recognizes camera and says loading, but it never does load photos.

    That's the latest version.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto. Version 8.1.2
    - What version of the Operating System. OSX 10.9.4
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
When I open iPhoto, only the most recent photos are shown (last 12 months)
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages? This has been going on for several weeks now. There are no error messages, but yes, I had an update in the system (QuarkXPress 10.1), and the problem has occurred from that day.
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue. I tried to find out where the problem came from, but found no solution.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto? No
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
Thank you so much for offering help. I am not a proficient user of the system.

    Hi ryan,
You can use automator to rename your files, BEFORE you import them into iPhoto. Doing so while they are already imported into iPhoto and iPhoto's database will cause iPhoto to lose the links between the thumbnails and the images.

To restore your library you need to create a new one and import/add to the library. Instructions are on Page 2. Good luck!

  • Lightroom will not import my photos.   It did up to a week ago.   I have changed cards and cameras (both worked two weeks ago).   I can import the photos to Picasa and iPhoto

Lightroom will not import my photos.   It did up to a week ago.   I have changed cards and cameras (both worked two weeks ago).   I can import the photos to Picasa and iPhoto.   I get the following error message:
Some import operations were not performed.
The following files were not imported because they could not be read  [followed by a list of the files I wanted to import]
Thumbnails show up.  LR just will not import them.
Any idea what is going wrong?

If the Import button is not clickable, that means that Lightroom thinks you have no new photos to import (one possible reason is that they are duplicates)
So, you need to figure out why Lightroom thinks that. The way I would do this is to search your Library module for at least one of the photos, by file name. To do this, you would follow all 4 of these steps in sequence:
Click on All Photographs in the Catalog Panel on the left of the Library Module
Turn off all Filters (Ctrl-L or Cmd-L once or twice)
Expand all stacks: Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks
Search for one or more of the photos using the Filter Bar (press backslash), search by File Name

    Hello, eco1.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like you are wanting to move your iTunes media folder to an external drive and have iTunes this folder from this location.  If this is the case then I would recommend taking a look at the article below.

  • Can I import photos from an old iPhoto library?

Can I import photos from an old iPhoto library on an external hard drive to my current iPhoto library?  The icon on the hard drive appears greyed out when I try via Import.

Open the older library and export the Photos from it to the Finder (File -> Export) and switch to the new Library and import those.
Or, use  iPhoto Library Manager to move the photos, plus all the versions and associated metadata to the new Library.
    Regards

Aperture won't delete the photos from your iPhone. Most users have settled on using Image Capture ater importing into Aperture to delete the photos from the iPhone.

Hi, i can't open photo library on my iPhoto. Now lost all my photos.  How to restore all photos on iPhoto on Macbookair?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

to know what your OS is, click on "apple" up there,  then click  "About this Mac ".

  • Can't view photos in iphoto but I still can in Preview

Recently I changed some of the folder names of my photos in the iphoto library, but now when I want to view them in iphoto they are blank. I can still view them through Preview mode if I go through Finder, but that's a hassle. Also, the photos that I didn't change the folder name I can still view in iPhoto. I use iPhoto 5.
What should I do in order to get things back to normal and be able to view my photos in iphoto??

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
1 - this is the iPhoto '08 forum - your question would be better placed in the iPhoto 5 forum - http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=850 - some things work differently and here people will assume that you have iPhoto '08 and the answers may not work on iPhoto 5
What should I do in order to get things back to normal and be able to view my photos in iphoto??
2 - You should NEVER modify the iPhoto library (or any other database structure for that matter) - you should ONLY use iPhoto to change things. At this time your two choices are to put things back exactly like they were or recreate your library which will lose your edits, albums, etc

  • Error-can't view photos in photo library using this version of iphoto .

Hi, I recently bought a macbook air and wanted to transfer pictures to it from my old mac (macbook 10.4.11). I viewed the pictures through file sharing, but was unable to finish saving most of the pictures that day.
When I try and view my iphoto photos now from/and on the macbook or the macbook air, it tells me I am unable to view the photos (you can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo libray using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.) I can't download the latest version of iphoto on that computer because it's 10.4.11. When I try to view the photos on the macbook air through file sharing (like I had done previously and it worked) it gives me the same message as above and I have the most recent version of iPhoto on the macbook Air. Anyone able to help me out?? I am unable to view any of my photos, is there any other way of opening photos other then through iphoto?? Thanks, Bo

If you opened an older iPhoto library with a newer version of iPhoto you received a warning that the library would be converted and that this can not be undone so you will have to either:
    1 - Load your backup from before the conversion;
2 - upgrade to iPhoto '09 on the old system (which will require an OS upgrade too); or
3 - create a new library on the old system and reimport the photos form the originals folder on the library that you mistakenly upgraded

  • I can't view photos in the cloud from my iPhoto. Any one else have this problem?

I cant view photos from iphoto in the cloud.
I have turned on icoud in iphoto but nothing appears in the cloud.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    David Winters

Do you mean at icloud.com you can't see your photos?  If so then that's normal.  They are only viewable on Macs running iPhoto 9 or later and on mobile devices running iOS 7.
So where are you not seeing the photos and what system and iPhoto versions are you using?
