Can the timeline be locked to prevent accidental edit slips ?

Just wondering what the procedure in Speedgrade is to lock the timeline to prevent accidental frame and edit slips while selecting footage and grading?

To the left of the timeloine with the eye and sound icon, you'll find a lock icon. This appears to lock position/sync while still allowing you to select clips to grade.

  • Can the dock be "locked" ?

I have a client who is bad with the mouse. She keeps clicking and holding on the dock icons and then slipping them out. Can the dock be "locked" so that the icons cannot be easily removed? Thanks!

In a non-admin account you can do this in System Preferences >> Accounts >> Parental controls.

New user to FCPx. I lost the timeline and footage I have been editing for 5 days. Can I go back 2 hours in FCPx to retrieve it or is it lost forever?

What version are you using? Were you editing inside a project, or did you open a clip into the timeline?

  • Can the iControl Plug-in for nanoKONTROL be edited?

Can the iControl Plug-in for nanoKONTROL (Maps nanoKONTROL to Logic and Garageband) be edited?
I'm using Logic Express 8 and would basically like to be able to work with logic's Controller assignment parameter.
I want to assign different controls (Change Pan and Mute) for Switch buttons 1 and Button 2 on the Nano Kontrol.
The Transport Zone was easy to edit, because I could select the control and simply change the Key Command by choosing the desired controls
from the Show menu. It's not so anywhere else on the Nano Kontrol.

    Hey.
I figured out how to set different key commands for the Korg Kontrol via
    the Logic Controller Assignment Parameter.
First I pressed a "button" on the Kontrol.
Then scrolled down the control and parameter list and selected "Scene 3 SW2 8 •Select Next Track" where I saw under controller assignment parameter that it was a class: key command. Clicked "Show…"
opened the key commands menu, selected the command I wanted
then clicked Lean New Assignment and pressed a key on the Kontrol.
Done! Just remove the original command or you'll have
multiple parameters for one button and save.

  • Can pages be 'locked' to prevent further editing?

I've created a website for our church and been updating it on my home computer. I expect to carry on for a while, but want to prepare for someone else taking it over.
I also created two websites for our youth groups to work with and placed them onto the church laptop, (i did this by copying the whole iWeb folder, domain.site2 included, onto the lap[top) then deleted the church site from that file.
Now, the youth have access to their own sites and edit them. When i add the official church site to the laptop, how can i prevent one of them from accidentally (or otherwise) changing/deleting some of our pages?
Is there any way that I could keep the 2 domain.site2 files separate? I've experimented and can't get iWeb 09 to run by doubleclicking the domain icon, no matter where it is on my HD.
    Thank you
    Elizabeth

    Thank you, Roddy
I read the info on the link you suggested but still have a question.
If I duplicate the domain.sites2 file and make the changes so that I have 2 different domain files for 2 different sites, how does iWeb know which site to open when I run it?
Currently, double-clicking the file gets an error message that iWeb can't read it and iWeb closes, yet when i next open iWeb it brings up the very same 'document' (for a better name) that it just wouldn't open.

  • Urgent editing crisis! Audio track A1 on the timeline has locked itself (not the 'lock symbol').

I can move the video footage but the audio is stuck. I get the red plus/minus (audio out of sync) when I move the video footage. I can't even right click on any of the files in the Audio 1 track, they are completely 'locked'. If I right click on the video footage that correspond with the A1 audio they have all ben 'on-linek'. Audio track 2 and 3 works absolutely fine and i can change length, delete and right click on them. What have I done wrong? Tried everything but can seem to find a solution.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Probably too late to look into your history panel. What about saving project in another name version and opening Auto Save versions?
thats all I got.  Good luck

  • Can the "Import: Store Files" folder list be edited?

I've searched both this forum and the web for an answer; nothing has turned up.
I'm looking for a way to edit the folder list when you "Import" & click on:
    - Store Files - In their current location
I have renamed and reorganized a number of folders on my hard drive, so the old folders no longer exit. They show up as grayed-out in this list. I would like to clean this up, if there is a way to edit a text list somewhere without messing up the program.
    I have Aperture 2.1.4.
    thanks

As noted above, the SSIS Wizard may not be the best choice.
I suggest you build an SSIS package.  Not only for the initial load, but for the incremental refresh as well.
SSIS has data cleansing, full error control and logging facilities.

  • FCPX Timeline acts locked

I'm just learning FCPX, but edited on FCP5 or so.  Previously, I dragged some clips into a timeline. Now I can't select clips in that timeline, or drag clips into that timeline or a new timeline. Both toimelines are surrounded by a white border, no yellow selection borders appear.  Also, to the top left of the old timeline, there's a symbol which looks like sound coming from a speaker, with an exclamation mark. What's going on? Your help is appreciated!

You people are amazing -- so generous. I am attaching the screenshot, but I also solved the problem -- and generated a new one. Okay, it seems that when the "project library" is open, the white border appears and the timelines are locked. When I double-klicked any given timeline, they get bigger, show the clip names, and are usable. But when I then selected one clip and dragged it in, everything in the event came in.
Clearly, I need t learn to use FCPX from top to bottom so I don't keep bothering anyone. Is there a good book, tuitorial, manual or anything? The help menu gives very little.

  • [discuss] Does anyone use the Timeline Effects?

Just curious. I don't, but I probably would if the effects
were better -- the system itself of applying and editing effects
    works nice.

I've never used the Timeline Effects either, and after some
fooling around with them I think these are the main reasons:
    1) There aren't very many effects. I don't expect to discover
    much there.
    2) The effects that are there aren't particularly useful.
I've never really needed to "explode" or "expand" something in my
animation. Some of the effects are so basic they don't seem to
really offer any benefit over normal tweening, such as Transform
and Transition. And what about Text effects? If there were
professional text effects, such as the quality found in After
    Effects, I'd find that useful.
    3) The effects that exist are not very high quality. They
    aren't smooth and natural looking.
    4) The preview framerate is not synchronized to your movie
framerate, so the preview is mostly useless.
    5) UI visibility of the Timeline Effect is really low.
There's no indication in the timeline or Property panel that a
symbol is actually a timeline effect. The only way to edit or
create a timeline effect is through a menu. This makes for a very
    awkward interface.
    5) You can only have a single Timeline Effect at once.
    6) A Symbol with a Timeline Effect can't be edited, you can't
even adjust the frame span in the timeline without the timeline
effect being "baked" and not editable anymore. This makes some of
the "helpers" particularly useless, since it basically locks down
    your selection after being applied.
So in the end I think I'll avoid extending Timeline Effects
altogether and just create some Commands to help us in creating
tweens. Any suggestions as far as that goes?

  • How does one loop playback of small selections within the timeline?

How does one loop a selection of footage from within the timeline? I'm trying to edit students' tapping hands and pencils on desks into small timed chunks that will play back as seamless loops and I need to be able to slowly shorten or elongate sections of footage as it plays and repeates until the loop matches the timing of the song we are making. I'm using PE8 and can't seen to find an easy way to do this. Surely there is one! Is there?

I appreciate the help everbody, but It looks like I didn't state my question effectively. Let me try again.
It will be easier if I explain what it is I am used to. This is what I need to know how to do in PE8, because the school in which I teach AV has chosen PE8 for my classes and won't let me install anything else.
In Sony Vegas - all versions, you can click and drag to quickly make a selection of video and audio. You can do this while video is rolling and you can then choose to have your A&V loop within this selection. I have seen replies on this forum where this feature within Vegas was treated as if it were a dumb thing. It's not dumb once you realize what it can be used to do for you. While continuing to loop within your slelection, you can move this selection throughout your timeline, rough tuning where you want your loop to be. If your loop needs to be exactly 66 frames, for instance, you could first set this selection at 66 frames and then move it up and down the timlene until you find the best place to cut. Or, in the case of trying to find where some sound within your selection makes a seamless loop, you can increase or decrease the size of your selection on the fly as the selection continues to repeat.
How do you do that in PE8? If it can't do it, can the full version of Premiere?
    Thanks again for the help.

  • Video: Can photoshop timeline be exported to Premiere or After Effects?

I love the video ability. Other than just rendering out, can the timeline be exported in an editable way to Premiere or After Effects for further work?
If not, it would be a very useful feature.

There are lots of different tips to create timelapse with difficult footage, but my images have always just been pretty smooth. Do not frame blend or try to get fancy. The goal for me is just to make sure that when I shoot, I don't try to change the exposure. Set it yourself, do not use auto. When I shoot sunsets, I start overexposed and end up way underexposed. But it works better than trying to adjust in the middle.
I shoot with a Panasonic GH3 which shoot s much larger image than 1920X1080. That allows me to pan around the image, making it look like I used a slider or zoom lens.
For example, this was show with about 170 images. An image taken every 5 seconds and played back at 24fps.
The original frame looked like this:

  • System freezes when placing still pictures on the timeline.

    I'm using CS4 on a windows sys
tem. When I place a pic
ture on the timeline it locks up my system
. I get the spinning blue circle
. Working with video does not cause
    a problem. Please help.

I have seen (do a forum search) the advice that a picture should be no more than 1000x750 but that is for performance, not program locking
Is this a picture direct from a camera?
I have also read that some cameras put "metadata" inside the picture that will confuse Premiere
What happens if you open with Photoshop and resave to a different name, and use that new file?

or imagine you import large images sequence (200 hundred) and
need to reposition them all :)
The edit multiple frames options comes handy in such case...
