You can buy gift cards at most any place.....Wal-Mart, Target,etc., without a credit card. Then you can enter this gift card into your iTunes to use. If you mean online within iTunes, then yes, you have to have a credit card just like any other website to purchase a product.

I need some help please, or advice, or anything..
I just found in my mail this morning a very unexpected and generous gift from the USA, of $100 in iTunes gift cards ($50 x 2). I am in the UK and am disgusted to find that I cannot use them. After reading through the forums, I do understand that I'm unable to use foreign gift cards, but what's getting to me is why? For what reason? This is what I can't find, the reason.
I do not want to jeopardise my account in any way, I do not want multiple accounts (is this frowned upon by Apple?), and as yet I have not scratched the foil to reveal the codes. I don't know what to do? This was an unexpected gift and what now? I have to tell the person kind enough to send them that they've wasted their time AND money?! Diabolical. I'm going to feel just awful telling her that! I don't want her to lose her money, and I don't want to have to almost throw her kindness in her face because Apple are implementing ridiculous "rules" and give me no other option.
I don't know what to do at this point. Does anyone have any ideas or words of wisdom please?

Sorry, but you cannot use a UK iTunes card in any country other than the UK. Sell or give the card to someone in the UK and buy a French prepaid card.

What's the actual error message that you are getting, that the card hasn't been activated or that the code is invalid ?

Why can't I use my iTunes gift cards in the Apple Store or online to purchase Apple merchandise?

I have received iTunes gift cards from people who expected that I would use them to buy Apple merchandise. I understand that there are two different types of gift cards but it just seems intuitive that they would be interchangeable Since it all funnels back to Apple.

Because this is how Apple has chosen to operate it's business.
No one here would know why they made that decision and discussing Apple policies and decisions is not permitted here.

I purchased some iTunes gift cards from Britain from where I have just returned. I am having problems using these at the iTunes store. The wording that comes back is that I am using a British Card for a Malawi application. I bought these on the understanding that Apple is one company internationally. That is obviously not the case. iTunes gift cards can only be used in their country of issue, so UK cards can only be used in the UK on UK based accounts. Do you know anybody in the UK that you could sell or give the cards to ?

Why can't I move an iTunes gift card?

I just got our SeniorNet Computer Learning Center into Apple computers and tablets two years ago (Dec 2011) and I'm beginning to wish I hadn't. Here's the latest "policy" problem with Apple I've encountered. We have 10 Apple computers and 14 Apple tablets (iPads) and I've created unique Apple IDs for each device. When I upgraded the software on the Apple computers I had to assign my PERSONAL credit card to the account long enough to order the Mountain Lion upgrade and then I immediately removed my credit card from the account. I didn't like doing it because all of our students know the Apple ID and password for each computer so there was an exposure but I lived with it. However, it would be MUCH better (and SAFER for me), if I could order the upgrades for the desired Apple IDs, using my personal Apple ID account. I keep hoping Apple will hire some smarter people that might see the flaw in their current policy and change it.
Now, onto the latest policy problem. As part of teaching the iPads, I wanted to have a song on each iPad, purchased from the iTunes store. You already know my concern with assigning my PERSONAL credit card to an Apple ID account created for our computers so I really didn't want to follow that procedure in order to purchase a song for each iPad. My solution was to buy a $25 iTunes gift card. I could then apply the gift card to the first iPad Apple ID, purchase the desired song, then remove the gift card from that Apple ID and apple the gift card to the next Apple ID. That way, our maximum monetary exposure is whatever the balance is on the gift card rather than my available credit on my PERSONAL credit card. Sounded like a much safer plan than having to enter my PERSONAL credit card information on each Apple ID for all of our iPads.
Now, we encounter the latest DUMB Apple "policy". It was really easy to redeem the Apple gift card on the first Apple ID. I scratched off the label to reveal the code, entered it into iTunes, and was able to purchase a song for that Apple ID. Now, all I had to do was to remove that code from that Apple ID and move it to our other Apple IDs in order to purchase the remaining songs. The iTunes gift card balance would follow it, just like gift cards you purchase anywhere else.
I went into the account for the first iPad in order to remove the gift card but was unable to find out how to do it. I went into Apple Support and sent an email, asking how I could remove the iTunes gift card from the current Apple ID and move it to the next Apple ID. I just received a reply back this morning from Aaron: The BAD NEWS, currently, once you redeem an iTunes gift card on an Apple ID, you can't remove it from that Apple ID!!! I'm now stuck with an iTunes gift card with a balance of something over $23 and I'm unable to use it to purchase the other songs for each of our other iPads! I have no reason to purchase anything else from iTunes for that Apple ID so our SeniorNet Computer Learning Center is OUT the remaining balance on the iTunes gift card!
Apple needs to CHANGE this policy, IMMEDIATELY!!!

I bought a $25 iTunes gift card from the 7-11 in Windsor Locks, CT earlier this afternoon around 6:45 P.M, and when I tried to activate it, the code was invalid, and when I called the 7-11 to let them know what happened, the foreign man that answered the phone started yelling at me when I told him the cashier was the too busy on the phone with a friend to give me a receipt for my purchases. Considering that my card didn't work and the guy yelled at me when I was trying to make him aware of the situation, it made me wonder how many other people has that convenience store scammed into buying invalid gift cards? If they are scamming people, is there a way for me to report the store to Apple for using the company to gain fraudulent dollars? Is there a way I can get my money back?
