No. an unlocked iPhone will only work on GSM networks. The only GSM carriers in the US are AT&T and T-Mobile. Any of the small, regional carriers that use GSM are actually MVNO's that piggyback on the T-Mobile or AT&T networks. You will have issues with some features using those carriers, most notably MMS messaging and cellular data.
If you are going to want to use Verizon, then buy a Verizon phone.

Yesterday I went looking for an iPhone 5, I went to 2 stores which were sold out, finally at the third store they had them in stock, I picked the Black 16GB model, the apple employee was setting it up for me and asked which carrier I wanted the phone with, I said telus, she asked for my telus account details, I told her I didn't have a telus account and that this was a new activation, she then asked a manager and came back and said sorry I can't sell you the phone, we don't do new activations, you have to order the unlocked version online and wait 5-6 weeks for delivery, I told her I wasn't going to wait that long, so she asked another manager, same thing, she couldn't sell it to me
My question is, why are they not selling the iPhone 5 unlocked in store? I don't want to buy it on contract, why is ordering it online the only option?, to me this is just stupidity.

This may be a stupid idea, but I was just wondering... I'm considering buying an unlocked iPhone as well, currently not available in the US. I'm with AT&T and will probably stay with them because of my grandfathered plan and discounts I get from my employer. However I am interested in the Verizon model phone since it has the most 4g bands AND will work on AT&T out of the box. Since I'm willing to pay full price, what if I bought a new iPhone from verizon with a contract and then simply cancelled an paid the early termination fee? Since I want the 32gb version I figure I'd pay 299+tax, ~100 for a month of service and the 350 early termination fee. Isn't that the same as buying an unlocked phone for $750 (32gb) ?
I'm not trying to cheat the system (stupid as it may be and actually encourages clever solutions for dealing with it), I would rather switch to Verizon (actually I'd rather be on Virgin Mobile to eventually spend the least in monthly service fees) but I'm not too keen on the inability to talk/text at the same time AND my monthly plan would go up $20 or more...

Unlocked phone 6's are not available in the United States at this time. Apple has not announced when they will be sold. Historically, it's within 3 months of the release of the iPhone

You can probably get an unlocked iPhone 4. Apple has not yet released unlocked versions of the iPhone 4S in the US, at least not officially, though unconfirmed reports have claimed that some Apple Stores have had some. You'd need to contact the appropriate Apple Store and ask.

You can not buy an iPhone from Apple online in the US unless you have a U.S. issued credit card and a US shipping/billing address.
If you want to physically come to the US, you can buy one at any Apple Store.
The warranty will not be valid outside of the US. It will not work with LTE networks outside of the US. If you need out of warranty service, you will not be able to get it outside of the US. You will not be able to ship the phone to Apple in the US for service. You will have to physically carry it back to the US, or you will have to send it to someone you know in the US to take it in for service.

I think you will hav no chance of getting it in store here in London, only have 3 stores at Whitecity, Regents Street, and Brent Cross, all which I have visited and they advice to order online as it will be faster and you will have details on expected shipping and delivery. Regents Street actually said I might have to wait longer than a month...this was 2 weeks ago.
I therefore ordered online, the time to ship when ordered is about 2 and half weeks and delivery is about 3 and half weeks, so 3-4 days earlier than estimated.
This is just based on what I have read on the forums and from experience of my friends, a small minority of people have had to wait full 3 weeks for it to ship and another week for delivery.
My advice put your name on the waiting list on all there stores, if you are in London for 2-3 weeks you may be lucky to get one. If you are here less than 2 weeks order online!

You need to clarify where you are as Virgin Mobile are a Global Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) brand however the terms and offers differ in each country.
If you are in the USA the brand is actually franchised and operated by Sprint .
Operating on Sprint CDMA and LTE frequency bands.
The CDMA radio will be provioned to work off of the Sprint towers - This IS locked down and can't be used on any other network -for instance Verizon.
The phones GSM Sim card holder and radios should be unlocked but we won't know for sure until the handsets are available to test.
The models in question are the A1453 - 5S ad A1456- 5C- these support the most channel frequencies of any iPhone , however NOT the all important European LTE band 7 (2600mhz)
So it is highly likely that the Virgin USA model will have unlocked SIM and GSM support will work on all European 3G and most earlier 2 and 2.5G networks however may have patchy to no European LTE support.
Note that comment reqarding 2G (GPRS) and 2.5 G (Often called Edge) - A number of European countries and mobile operators are re-provisionng (reusing) frequencies in the 800mhz spectrum to 800DD (digital) for future LTE and where this takes place normal subscibers without LTE contracts will loose service in some areas.
This is already taking place in the UK - Beware.
Virgin Mobile UK are not currently an Apple iPhone dealership.

According to this list, iPhone 5 CDMA versions are only available in the U.S., Japan, and Puerto Rico. The CDMA phone is Model A1429.

Even if you get an unlocked A1429, it may not work with Indonesia's CDMA network, although it looks like it should work since the iPhone 5 CDMA model supports both CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B. You may need to take it to your service provider to set it up though.
