We all know that we can pause and resume copy/pase function in windows system using various tools, so my concern is, can we do the same in Mac systems????

Ahhh you mean something like tera copy that is available for windows system....??
Well i dont thing so there is any application that offers pause and resume a copy process on mac, however looking for a solution I found an application that actually provides similar functionality and a few more features for mac copying process.

But unfortunately, as for all the mac applications, this one is a paid tool. I had a trial run with this application and it seemed to work fine.

Audiobooks skip backwards multiple chapters often when pausing and resuming

As the title states I am having an issue where if I pause and resume sometimes the book will skip back multiple hours.
This issue is very inconsistent sometimes it happens sometimes not. It is something I will experience on almost every book multiple times at some point.
I am having an issue that spans: OS 5-7 or more, iPhone 4, 4s, 5s, iPad 2 and other. I believe Ive had the issue show itself on iTunes but I rarely use iTunes but fairly certain it has happened.
I make most of my audiobooks from CDs that I purchase but I have had the problem on others as well. I also sometime download audiobooks that are in MP3 format and convert them.
I have used different programs with the same outcome but at the moment I am using chapter and verse to create my audiobooks. I usually break them into 2 or 3 files because of how horrible the reliability is to begin with.
The M4B format seems to be plagued with issues and I am hoping I can put my finger on this one because it is by far the most annoying.
If it matters I typically use voice setting, high efficiency setting, VBR setting, 64kbits if stereo setting but set it to mono so it is 32kbits, and I have the sample rate set to auto. It results in files around 160MB/10HRs and sound no worse than what audible publishes them as.
I doubt that matters though since I have experienced this issues with different settings.
I also am currently setting my chapters to every 10 minutes to make skipping easier because of how common this issue is. If they are longer finding my spot is very difficult using the slider on an iPhone. I might even go smaller on the next book and make smaller files as well.
Any insight would be great. I am most certainly NOT the only person with this issue since I have been able to recreate it hundreds of times with CD source, mp3 source, on my MacBook, on my PC, with several different programs, without using any special program at all (iTunes only)
Apple most def will not be resolving an issue that is several years old so I'd like to know how to format my books in a way to avoid this.

One thing you can look at is if in iTunes, you right click on the audiobook track, choose get info, and go to the options tab, remember playback position should be checked.

Whenever I download podcasts, the "pause" and "resume" feature does not work!!! If I "pause" any of my downloads in mid-download..and then hit "resume"...I lose everything that has downloaded to that point and it goes back to the very beginning...this is aggravating since I have dial-up internet and it takes hours to download some podcasts. It's not just podcasts! I have had the same problem off and on, but it's just happened again. My internet access is only 64K (not much faster than the old 56K dial-up!) and I was 60MB into the new iPhone software when I paused. That's three hours gone!

There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak 2, Vista, or Windows 7. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.

Can i remap a button on the keyboard? (trying to support copy/paste on mac)

my app runs cross-platform, and on the mac os x, copy/pasting is accomplished via ctrl+c/v, when the native os wants to use cmd-c/v. (ie in order to copy from a browser and paste into my java app, the user would have to press cmd-c to copy from the mac environment and then ctrl-v to paste into the java environment.)
i'd like to have copy/paste behave the way mac users are expecting (pressing cmd vice ctrl). at the moment, my app supports OS functions like cmd-w (close window), cmd-q (quit), and cmd-h (hide) via a few import classes from apple. they neglect to provide the same support for copy/pasting.
so. how can i init my java environment so that if a user presses the cmd key, java behaves as if they are pressing the ctrl key?

ok, tested it. seems that under metal and the L&F i'm using (which is based on metal as far as i know), pasting is accomplished via ctrl-v.
if i set the L&F to the system L&F while running in a mac os, pasting is accomplished via cmd-c (meta-c?).
so that's that.
i asked google for help with the shortcutKeyMask, and this turned up on an apple site:

Do not set menu item accelerators with an explicit javax.swing.KeyStroke specification. Modifier keys vary from platform to platform. Instead, use java.awt.Tookit.getMenuShortcutKeyMask to ask the system for the appropriate key rather than defining it yourself.

The default modifier key in Mac OS X is the Command key. okay... but uh... i don't quite get it. seems that this Listing 2 solution might work, but a) this is for a menu and b) i'd like this to be a global setting if at all possible. my concern is when i use something like this:

Create an absolute time display that can be paused and scrolled

I have 3 waveform graphs that are scrolling by as the data is collected. They represent past events that can be paused, scrolled back, and printed. It represents 8 hours of data. I do not have a time stamp associated with the data going into the graphs at this time. I dont want to reinvent the Field Point code that is gathering the data just tweak the Host program that monitors the data (this would require flying to the customer site). I need to have a absolute time clock that will keep up with the data that is scrollong by and pause when the graphs are paused (that is the easy part). Here is my challenge. I am using a property node from all three graphs. I have the x scale-range-all elements tied together so they will all scroll together with 1 x scroll bar. I need to be able scroll the absolute time clock with the other information.
Any ideas?

Hi,
You can use the Get date/time function to get time when the data is recorded. However be advised that this time would only be close to the actual time of data acquisition. It will not be the actual time when the data was acquired.
As for scrolling the time display, I think yout best bet would be to tie in a time stamp (Get date/time function ) with the Y values that you are already acquiring. Then when you scroll to a particular point in the graph, you can programmatically unbundle the waveform at that point to get the time value.

Can't drag/drop or copy/paste; spotlight missing

I can no longer drag/drop or copy/paste files or folders. I can select "copy" but the option to "paste" is grayed out. I also no longer have spotlight on the menu bar.
One possible cause - there's a tmp folder in my trash bin. I have no idea how it got there. Is that the cause? if so, how do I reinstall the tmp folder?
I'm running 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro. Thanks.

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! I can't express how thankful I am for this post! Had the same exact problem as the discussion starter. I didn't even notice Spotlight was gone until finding this post! I thought the issue was Adobe/app related until copy/paste didn't work!

1) I can see that the tmp folder is an alias folder now; but can I still delete the original folder that's still in the trash (which is minus two files now, because I tried emptying the trash)?!??
2) Also, I have a x2 backup of the original folder before putting it in the trash (and emptying; that's how I know the tmp folder is minus two files). So my second question is, can I put the backup folder BACK where the alias folder is, and them delete the alias!???
