Can you add new Page layouts within an Indesign Document like you can in QuarkXpress using tabs

I am slowly switching to Indesign from QuarkXpress but have encountered my first hurdle. I have grown up with QuarkXpress and want to change to Indesign. I work as a graphic designer and do large POS projects. These projects require many different size leaflets, posters etc but are all under one job/project. I currently use the tab system in QuarkXpress enabling multiple layouts in one file, I then can switch quickly to whatever layout i need to work on within that file. Is there a feature in Indesign which is similar to QuarkXpress as I find this a very valuable time saving feature. I am using Indesign CS 3.0.1

>What do you mean Sandee?<br /><br />Robert,<br /><br />Sandee's comment did come across as a bit strong, eh. InDesign is better than Quark  for the most part. (Hey,even Quark has it's good points. <g>) But they are different and preconceptions of how to do certain things can hinder a user from using the program to it's best advantage. This goes both ways, but long time Quark users will almost certainly have developed some bad habits that should be broken if using InDesign. [check out theInDesigner.com podcasts. the first few are audio only but the first one in particular deals with this idea, and others reinforce it with specifics.]<br /><br />Your concern about Quark Project files does not fit into this catagory though. You will not find a comparable feature in ID. But I don't think you'll miss it as much as you think.<br /><br />I can't answer your questions about Bridge and Version Cue. I have no experience with them. [there are videocasts on Adobe TV that may give you an idea of how useful Bridge can be. Cafe Fibonacci Ep1, touches on it, Lazy Designer has a couple of episodes that show some not so obvious features.] Essentially Bridge is a common repository for all your files, and that can include your colleagues. But it's more than a way to catalogue and codify your files, you can access the rest of the suite from Bridge, you can even access specific functions of the other applications directly within Bridge.<br /><br />Version Cue manages projects. It keeps track of who did what to where and what version is current. It also allows you to submit different versions for consideration and revert specific items of your layout to previous versions  or is that Bridge? Hopefully someone with a better grasp of Bridge and Version Cue will come to your rescue. But it's obvious that there is a lot of work group functionality built in to CS.

  • Can't add new page in the middle of document

I am creating a manual and inserted page breaks at the end of each page as I created the document. Now I am trying to add a new page to the middle by inserting page breaks and even section breaks, but every time I try to add it in, it just goes to the bottom of the document and I am unable to move anything into the original 50 pages. Any tips here?
When I look at the thumbnail view of the document it has all 50 pages in one yellow box instead of one page individually. A bit odd.

The thumbnail browser shows one small page thumbnail for each page of your document. Each yellow bounding box indicates a section. So the thumbnail browser indicates your document has a single section with 50 pages in it.
As you've typed your document it has naturally flowed from one page to the next. If you place a page break at the end of the page you are simply mandating what Pages has already voluntarily done. But if you insert a second page break you should get a new blank page. In other words, if you put your cursor at the bottom of page 6 and insert a page break you will move to the top of page 7 which has text because it is still page 7. Insert another page break and page 7 becomes page 8 and you'll have a blank page 7.
Note: if you move your cursor into the middle of the document and insert a section break you'll see that the thumbnail browser shows two sections; one ending on the page above your cursor and one starting on the page your cursor is in. This is useful to understand.
Second Note: if you use the Insert>Sections option it always inserts a new section at the bottom of the section your cursor occupies. Since your document currently has one section, that's why you wind up with the inserted page at the end of your document.

  • How I can create a new page layout template for EP 7.0

Where I can found tutorial or description.
I have already provided the par-file for new page layout but I do not know like I should integrate in the enterprise portal 7.0.
    Greeting Daniela

when you already provided the par file then
    go to content admin->portla content
go to your folder in pcd content and right click and navigate to new-> layout. There you can find your deployed  new page layout par file.
Create a page layout based on the par file and in the properties make it as template.
Later when you try to create a page then you will get the new layout as one of the option.

  • ArchWiki: suggestion for a new page layout

Finally, I have some time to spare for ArchWiki improvement.
I have modified my article on CMYK support in The GIMP as an example.
Please take a look at it here:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CMY … n_The_GIMP
The code to produce the box on the right is here:
    {{sn|'''Article summary:'''
This article will show how to enable rudimentary CMYK support in The GIMP using the Separate plug-in, and explain how to use color proof filter to soft-proof your images.
It will also cover more general topics on CMYK colors and DTP.
    '''Required software:'''

    *[http://www.blackfiveservices.co.uk/separate.shtml Separate plugin source]

This is the best we can do with current ArchWiki setup. It would be even better if we could list categories in the box, as well as i18n links.

I've been tinkering with the templates. It's fixed now, I think.
Anyway, the templates used for the job can be seen from the code:

As you can see, it's a bit more typing than before, but it sure looks better. I might shorten the names for the templates. I wanted to make them memorable so they are a bit long.
As you can see, the problem of i18n links integration was fixed, so you can use existing i18n template and combine with the new "Article summary" set.
I will modify the article about writing summaries to include those templates and examples.
EDIT:   the i18n links in the article are just examples. Don't use them, since they lead to non-existing pages.
EDIT2: Okay, I've played around with the appearance of the summary box, but I'm at work now, so it's going nowhere. I'll play with it some more when I get home.

  • Is the 'add new page' button working? (SG CC)

Anyone else having issues with the add new page button under the look tab?  When I click it, instead of being able to add a new page with my custom looks or reopen any of the example folders, it makes a copy of whatever page happens to be selected.  I feel like I'm missing something because I don't remember encountering the problem with CS6.

Answered my own question.  I was in "Quick View Mode" not "Look Management View Mode".  From the right view you can navigate to the folder you want displayed. /winning

    Hi adobespurs,
To extract pages from a PDF, you need to use Acrobat. If you don't have Acrobat, you can try it for free for 30 days. Please see www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html for more information.

  • __ Is there a way to add new art boards to an existing document?

Is there a way to add new art boards to an existing document (same dimensions and same space betwen artboards)?
What I do now is I have to create a new file (with new number of artboards) and cut & paste - is there another way to do this?
    Thanks.

    What Illy version?
File > Document Setup > "Edit Artboards" button (top, right)
Before entering Edit Artboard mode though, draw boxes at the right size and at the right locations as your desired new artboards so you can snap to them. While in Edit Artboard, anything other drawing boxes will cause you to exit it.
Tip: Alt+Left Click to convert a slected shape to an Artboard, while in Edit Artboard mode.
    EVEN EASIER:
Draw out your new Artboards in normal mode, select them > Object > Artboards > Convert to Artboards.

  • Make Data Merge import certain page of pdf or indesign document

I don't know if it is possible but can you make Data Merge import certain page of pdf or indesign document, this would be great addition for indesign

Here are a couple of questions that might help understand what might need to be done to achieve your request:
    * How do you propose to identify the desired page(s) within a PDF and an ID document, so the merge field placeholder knows how to find it?
    * How do you propose to keep track of the page if they're re-ordered in an updated document?
    * What if the identification marker is within text and flows to a different page - would you want to retrieve the original page (before the reflow) or the new page to which the marker would have flowed?
Perhaps the scripters could comment on the possibility of scripting these.

  • Automatically place images within multiple InDesign documents

I work for a publishing company of agricultural trade magazines and work on few titles each month. We are trying to streamline our production procedures and previous company I worked for had a script they used to place images within text pages by searching for the file name, however there were some limitations with this script (it would only work within 1 InDesign document and only within 1 InDesign story at a time). The company I am with now breaks out each editorial story into separate InDesign files and we place image boxes when the display ads are going to go. For our purposes now, I am looking for a script that, once all of the image boxes were tagged with the image file names, could search between multiple InDesign documents in a folder and automatically place all the images for us. Is anything like this available or able to be created? If so, would it have the capacity to search between multiple InDesign documents and search the entire document for the image file names? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Kasyan,
They were tagged using a program called Pathways created by a computer programmer the company used at the time. The issues that I was working on were annual Buyers' Guides so they were mainly just listings and inline graphics. The kinds of issues I work on now are monthly issue with various stories and no inline graphics, but display advertisements. And each story is created and laid out in a separate InDesign document. So I would need a script that can search an entire group of documents for file names and/or image boxes instead of just in one story in one document for inline graphics. (sorry if this is confusing).
I currently do not have a script to work from and am looking for something new that can be used to save use the time of placing every ad manually.
Thanks for your help and feedback!

  • Can I create a new document with a locked PDF file, add new pages, and lock it all again?

I published a PDF document ten years ago and now want to add Creative Commons licensing language to the copyright page.  But I forgot the password!  I gather from the Forum that there is no way to recover the password.  However, I wonder if I can take the locked PDF file, create a new document (adding a new page for the licensing information), then lock the whole thing up again.  Will this work?  Thanks for your help!

To create an unprotected file you would need the password.

  • Add new page by copying old one

I want to add a new page to an existing website.  I would think that just opening one of the existing pages and renaming it, then linking the CSS, would work -- but the CSS refuses to recognize the new file name, and insists on adding new style rules to the old page.
Isn't there a simple way to do this?  Most of the new page will have the same colors, layout, and headers as the others in this website.
    Thanks.........

Does the original page have a link to an external style sheet
(as opposed to your css styles being contained in the head of  the original
    html file)
If so, all you need to do is open the original file > click 'File' >Save as...
and choose your new file name.
The new document will automatically be linked to the right style sheet.

  • Need help. How do I add new pages to .dwt?

    Hi,
What I have going is this. I have a index.dwt in DWCS3 for my website. I recently just added about 8 more pages. However when I update my .dwt page those 8 pages do not get updated, of course because I didn't create them from the .dwt template.
Is there a way to easily link those pages to the .dwt so they will update whenever I update my index.dwt? thanks in advance dano

    I would definitely follow Gary's point #1.
It is always better to create a child page from the template (follow the instructions given by Gary)  and add the content from the other pages and rename the file appropriately.
*Applying* a template to a page can be fraught with problems and will likely lead to you having to create new pages anyway.  :-)

I have a main page (dspSystemsGrid.cfm) that uses a cfgrid
