I work for a business and am constantly working on projects that have multiple, separate projects within the same project. because of this I do all my editing during my business day and then when I leave for the day, I used to batch export the projects and the next morning I would come into work and be able to move onto the next thing. so far in FCP X I have not been able to find out how to do that. I know that in FCP 7 you could do it obviously, but I'm wondering...does FCP X have that same capability because I can't seem to find it and I don't really have the time to waste by exporting during the day.

Hey Scotty,
Andynick is correct about the batch export workaround. The way I do it is this:
1.     Go to the Project Library
2.     Select the first project you want to export
3.     Go to file>Send to Compressor. (I set a shortcut -Sift>Option>C from preferences, If you need help with that let me know.
4.     Repeat this process for each project
5.     Go to Compressor (it will already be open)
6.     Now here's where it gets kind of anoying, You need to choose which batch you want to make your main one. Pull off the tab on top and drag that project into your prefered batch, then close the old tab. Now you'll have two projects in your chosen batch.
7.     repeat that process for the rest of the batches Compressor created. When you're done you should only have one batch open with all of your projects in it.
8.     Submit the batch and let Compressor do it's thang.
Things to note:
When you send a project to compressor, it will automatically choose your default settings and location. If you want them to be different you'll have to do it mannually or change your defaults before you begin this process.
FUN right! Hopefully Apple will fix this so you can at least select multiple projects in the Project Library to make it a bit easier.
If anyone has a better workflow I am all ears!

FCP X: Can I export .wmv using Compressor without Flip4mac

Hi all, I need to export a movie as a .wmv and can't purchase the full version of Flip4mac. I do have Compressor 4.0.7 though. Is there a way I can export the file as a .wmv using only Compressor? I have exported the movie as an mp4 and it is 464.4MB. All the free online converters say the file is too big to convert unless I purchase the option to. I am fairly new to all of this so I appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

If you have Flip4Mac you can make a preset in Compressor. Then you can export using that directly from FCPX, but yes, you need Flip4Mac.

I tried exporting my film, but it wouldn't export. So, then I tried rendering all of the clips. However, as soon as I did that, it said that the project itself was offline. Yet when you go into the actual project itself, you can play the whole timeline.

Somehow, i have 2 iPhoto libraries which I opened today. The one with the vast majority of my images does not allow me to export photos. What can I do to manage this situation?

With my MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite, iPhoto 9.6, I find I have two iPhoto libraries. I discovered this when opening iPhoto today. One has only a few old images; the other, all current images. I cannot export images from the current image library. Can anyone enlighten me as to why I would have two libraries and how to resolve the issue of exporting?

What happens when you try to export from the library? Where are you trying to export to? Are both libraries located in the same Place? If not where are they located. If on an external HD how is that HD formatted?
How much free space do you have on your HD(s)?

How can I reduce the file size of a pdf when exporting?

I don't want to just choose between high quality print or smallest file size.
I want to export it from 60MB to 40MB.
Can I do this manually? When I use smallest file size the quality is too low and the content looks bad.
But high quality print exports my PDF at 60MB which is too big.

You cannot simply legislate the size of a PDF file. If you content is primarily text and vector, there is not much at all you can do to reduce PDF file size other than to cut out content. Otherwise, the only other variables are those of downsampling and compressing the raster images from your content.
You must be very careful in choosing the PDF export settings. The “smallest size” settings yield PDF files that realistically really are not fit for printing and may mess up any CMYK colors. The “high quality print” and “PDF/X-4” settings yield best print output, but yield the largest PDF files since they do less image resolution downsampling and only the maximum quality lossy JPEG compression.
I would recommend that you start with either the “high quality print” or the “PDF/X-4” settings and make a custom set of export settings. Assuming that you aren't going for offset or gravure printing, change the color image and grayscale image downsampling values from 300 and 450 to either 200 and 275 or no less than 150 and 225. If that doesn't give enough file size reduction, change the compression image quality from “Maximum” to either “High” or no less than “Medium.” Beyond these changes, you may end up with PDF files that will neither print nor display with any reasonable quality.

Can We have multiple SLEDs maintained in a single Batch

Hi all
Can we have multiple SLEDs maintained within a single batch. This SLED would be maintained at Quant level. One batch will have multiple quants and would be maintained in separate bins. However in LX27 i should see both the SLED for the same batch.

My sources tell me that batch management is not a part of Retail but of logistics and unfortunately I am not able to move your post to a better thread. However, I suggest you please do a search of all forums using "batch management" as your search criteria.You'll see loads of hits. You might find your answer there or a better place to post your question.

Exporting to Facebook - why can't I use the old plug-in?

It's nice that iPhoto '09 tried to help us with the Facebook exporter built-in. But why couldn't they make it useful? Why can't I tag people before I upload them? Why can't I upload photos to an existing album? I wouldn't mind so much, but they seemed to have disabled the existing (working) plug-in that was available. So now I have to export the pictures to my desktop and upload them through Facebook. Hmm...doesn't seem too user-friendly.

Ok, some problems are present with that.
--| There is no such application as "Adobe PDF".
--| PDF is not Adobe's (it is an ISO Standard file format/technology, ISO 32000-1:2008).
--| If all you have is Adobe Reader (any version) then you cannot create PDF.
No version of Adobe Reader can create PDF files, manipulate PDF page content or export PDF page content.
Perhaps the online source already provide PDF files and these were download?
Both Adobe Reader XI and Acrobat XI (Standard and Pro) provide us with a "Select" tool.
IF the PDF's page content is renderable text ("digital" characters rather than an image / picture of characters which is the output of all scanners or "outlined" fonts (which is a vector graphic drawing of the character and not a renderable font) then that renderable text can be copied.
Using the Select tool one selects some rendrable text content then right clicks for the context menu.
On that menu there is the choice of "Copy".
Once copied the content can be pasted into a support application / file.
So, doing this from either Acrobat XI or Adobe Reader XI I can (and have) done a "copy" of renderable textual content in a PDF and then "pasted" same into an MS Word file.
With that said I must admit I am skeptical of what you have harvested being textual content that is actually renderable text (real glyphs derived from real font encoding tables associated with the source file).
Almost always old - old stuff that gets online (in webspace or network space) is the image / picture of the imprint on paper that was scanned (aka "captured"). It may or may not have been OCR'd.
If some organization had folks type in / keyboard in content to a file then, yes, there'd be renderable text.
If what you have is displaying the same layout as the old newspapers then it is 99 44/100 ths of certainty that you have an image, a picture of the old newspaper articles / issues.
If the image / picture of text that is a PDF's content has had OCR applied press Ctrl+A while viewing the PDF.
If many "boxes" of blue appear you have OCR output.
If one big blueish box over the whole page appears you do not have OCR output present.
If you have OCR output then you have the "characters".
These can be exported. These can have copy and paste performed.
BUT no picture / image of text has "styles", "format", "layout", etc. -- it is a picture eh.
So, you get recognized characters. It will not be 100% (an "m" might be recognized as "n~")
Once you have the OCR output characters in Word or whatever you must engage in cleanup.
Please note the MS Word is most decidely not a page layout application so any rework to get a Word file to resemble the layout of a newspaper is problematic.
Keep in mind that back in the day what got to become the printed imprint on paper for any newspaper, etc always came from a manually laid out setup. No InDesign, etc back then.

Export to pdf filename (can of worms?)

I know this is probably a perenial post, but I'm trying to unserstand the logic of not picking up the filename in PDF exports.
Anyone know if this behaviour can be changed in CS4.
Adobe: Can you please give us a button in the export dialogue to chose to export to the filename? Its a small thing, a bit like my brain, when I'm trying to remember the filename of the document and trying to keep my exports in sync with my files.

If it's really a thorn in your side, 4 quick keystrokes can serve as a workaround:
When you're ready to export, press Ctrl+Shift+S to bring up the Save As dialog box, which will contain the current filename, preselected for you. Press Ctrl+C to copy it, then Esc to cancel the Save As operation and dismiss the dialog box.
Now press Ctrl+E invoke the Export dialog box, and paste the filename in using Ctrl+V.
Sounds like more than it is...only takes an extra 2 or 3 seconds:
Ctrl+Shift+S
Ctrl+C
Esc
Ctrl+E
Ctrl+V

I'm re-wrapping footage from Canon XF100, which is why m2v1. I like working this way to preserve original footage.
I just had my logo animated and designer matched everything except the m2v1. Providing ProRes 422 (HQ)

I'm new to FCPX too!
When creating a new project, if you click on Use Custom Settingsand then ckick on the Custom checkbox in Video Properties, you can specifyexactly what you want!
If you need to change it after the project was craeted, I found that you can click and highlight on the project in the Project Library window, then go over to the "info" button . The Properties window will expand from the right side (above the "info" button . With Properties selected it will show you the present settings, if you need to change those settings, click on the icon of the WRENCH on the bottom of that dialog box (Properties). You can then change your settings.

Can I use 4k footage in a 1080p sequence, then export 4k without resolution loss?

Hi,
I cut a 1080p sequence using 4k footage that I scaled down in the Effect Controls window. If I export that sequence as a 4k file, will Premiere compress that original 4k footage to 1080p, then expand it back to 4k in the exported file (please say no)? Or is Premiere intelligent enough to interpret the export scaling using the size of original footage, rather than the sequence size? (Hope that makes sense)
Of course it's wise to create a sequence based on your delivery requirements, but sometimes clients change their mind and I don't feel like rescaling every damn clip. But thanks for the advice

Premiere will export to the settings of the timeline / sequence you've created. It doesn't matter what formats you've used withing that timeline. So if you use 4k in a 2k sequence, Premiere sees it as a 2k sequence and, without user intervention, will export at that format.
Obviously you can up-scale during export but i) why would you want to do that when you've previously down-scaled and ii) anything above 100% magnification will begin to pixelate.

Can't import projects to GB on IPad which are exported by GB on IPad

I have recorded over 110 songs on the IPad with Garageband. Lately GB started to react kind of leggy, which makes sense because GB was taking up the bulk of the memory on the IPad. Now you can export complete GB projects files and delete the original song, however if you do that, the exported versions of the files remain on the IPad. So I did the best clean I could come up with: I exported everything (.band) directories and made a clean install on the IPad of GB. Now here is where the sadness begins. It is not possible to import the xxx.band directories back into GB, so I'm not able to work on the IPad on the songs that I made on the IPad. I feel quite devastated. Anyone with a solution for this? (I run Itunes on my PC so a Mac solution is not a solution for me).

By new version I mean the version that was just released on Wednesday, Version 1.2 (178.87).
I haven't made much music with it, have only been checking it out and since I was not able to share files between the two devices, I haven't really used it. Only tested it as of yet. But since I just got the Apogee iJam, what I've done is import songs that I created on my PC with FL Studio, minus the guitar track, so I can jam along on the iPhone.

Everytime I try to export my slideshow I get the "The operation can't be completed because the item can't be found." message. How do I fix?

Trying to export a pretty basic slideshow to our desktop/iTunes and I keep getting the "The operation can’t be completed because the item can’t be found." message when I try to export. What am I doing wrong?

What is your iPhoto version?
Your slideshow may contain a photo or a video where the original file cannot be found. Try to find the offending item.
You could duplicate the slideshow (select it in the source list, ctrl-click, and the select "Duplicate").
Then remove half of the photos from the copy and try to export this partial slideshow. if it works, you will know, the problematic photo or video is in the other half.
Keep duplicating the slideshow, removing photos from the copy and testing with smaller sets of photos, until you know exactly, which photo it is.
Then select this photo and use the command "File > Reveal Original" to see, if the original file is still there.
Check the revealed original, if Preview can display it. If the file is o.k., copy it and remport it. Add the new imported photo or video to your slideshow.
If the original file should really be missing, restore it from your backup.

My free trail expired before I finished exporting my video, how can I get it back?

I didn't realized that my free trail expired, I didn't export the video I just saved it. So when I tired to reopen it its asking for an serial number. I don't know how to get the serial number, is there any way I can get the video back. If I buy it will it be there?

if you subscribe you should be able to open your project. if you know someone with adobe cc, then you could take all the files to them and have them export out your final video.
