Can you carry L3VPN MPLS packets over Ethernet XConnect?

Hi All,
Can you carry L3VPN MPLS packets over an ethernet port-based xconnect???
Current:
POP_1 >> Physical Circuit <<  POP_2
Proposed:
POP_1 >> Provider_Router_1 << ethernet port-based xconnect >> Provider_Router_2 << POP_2
We are cancelling our physical circuits between each POP and going with another provider who is going to carry all our traffic between the POPS using ethernet xconnects. We have a few L3VPN MPLS customers and I wasn't 100% sure if their L3VPN data would be carried over the proposed xconnects.
Thanks.
Andy

Thanks guys for your reply...
One thing that I've never fully understood is the MTU setting you need within the Service Provider's core network (and I've read quite a bit about it).
For example we've cut across to the new xconnect circuit last night and I can get a 1500 byte L3VPN MPLS packet through the Service Provider's core from one PE to another PE via the xconnect (see below). I think this is made up of the payload (1492 bytes) + 2 x Tunnel/VC headers (8 bytes) = 1500 bytes total - so the Service Provider's core has MTU of 1500 bytes (correct me if I'm wrong on this).
Now I don't know if this is good or bad??? What should I be looking for? How do I determine what MTU is required through the Service Provider's core???
PE_1#ping vrf NSTEST 172.16.100.17 size 1492 df-bit
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 1492-byte ICMP Echos to 172.16.100.17, timeout is 2 seconds:
Packet sent with the DF bit set
Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 24/25/28 ms
PE_1#ping vrf NSTEST 172.16.100.17 size 1493 df-bit
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 1493-byte ICMP Echos to 172.16.100.17, timeout is 2 seconds:
Packet sent with the DF bit set
Thanks.

  • Can you use a 3600 for an Ethernet bridge??

Can you use a Cisco 3600 to do a P2P bridge? Using the MAP's ethernet port  to connect to a remote LAN?  On that remote LAN can you have  lightweight APs that connect to a controller on the RAP side?

Can you use a 3600 for an Ethernet bridge??
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/7.0MR1/configuration/guide/cg_mesh.pdf
Check - Converting Indoor Access Points to Mesh Access Points
Ethernet bridging has to be enabled for the following two scenarios:
    1. When you want to use the mesh nodes as bridges.
    2. When you want to connect Ethernet devices such as a video camera on the MAP using its Ethernet port.
    Wireless Backhaul:
In a Cisco wireless backhaul network, traffic can be bridged between MAPs and RAPs. This traffic can
be from wired devices that are being bridged by the wireless mesh or CAPWAP traffic from the mesh
    access points.
Guidelines For Using Voice on the Mesh Network
    • Voice is supported only on indoor mesh networks in release 5.2, 6.0, 7.0, and 7.0.116.0. For
outdoors, voice is supported on a best-effort basis on a mesh infrastructure.
    other factors to note:-
#you would be running on backhaul using A radio which is prone to DFS.
#CAPWAP may not tolerent enough with AWPP convergence on MAP roaming.
#CAPWAP is more latency sensitive than voice.

  • Fragmenting packets over Ethernet to improve voice quality

    Setup:
    1750--Ethernet---Satellite Receiver---128K Sat Link---Sat. Recvr--Ether---1750
    Question:
Since the Satellite Link is only 128K there will be a problem of Serialization Delay. Is there a way to fragment packets and Interleave over ethernet ? The same way it is done over Frame Relay or MLPPP.
In this setup how does one lower down "Serialization Delay" ?

    rocampo,
With a Satellite link, most the latency will be travel time and not serialization delay. I would expect VoIP quality to be an issue, since the users will have to tolerate long delays and have to wait to make sure the person on the other end has actually finished speaking before starting to speak. VoIP packets are generally small enough that they are already at or near Ethernet minimum packet size of 64 KBytes, so they are not fragmented on Ethernet. However, you may want to look into the QOS / COS capabilities of your LAN switches. But the real issue for you will be the large amount of latency across the satellite link. Be sure to use QOS on the satellite link, to send along VoIP packets on a preferred basis over other less time sensitive traffic. And you may want to see if you can use RTP header compression on the Satellite link to shrink the size of VoIP frames.

  • Can you determine link status with USB Ethernet adapter?

I'm wanting to replace an old G4 PowerBook with a 11" MacBookAir. I install networks, and I often need to determine link status of an Ethernet connection. With the built-in Ethernet port on most Macs, you can check the Network Status to see if there is link on an Ethernet connection (either the green or yellow status signs).
If I am using the Apple USB Ethernet adapter, do I get similar feedback from the Network preference panel? If not, perhaps a terminal command that would do the same?

Yes - the Network Panel under System Preferences works the same as with a regular Mac, showing USB Ethernet status (connected, disconnected, etc) and with the updated connected IP address, etc.

  • Can you make a 5s ring over speakers with headphones plugged in?

    Hi,
Does anyone know how you can make an iPhone 5s (on iOS7.0.4) ring over the external speakers when you have the headphones plugged in?  Can't find any options to make the phone that.
Reason being, I leave my headphone plugged in most of the day since do a lot of calls but if the headphones stay plugged (and they are not always in myear)  then I miss calls and SMSs cause it doesn't ring.
    Any thoughts?
    Bob

    Hi,
I assume you are talking about the side switch, which is not set to silent.   And the "Vibrate on Ring"  is off too, under Settings | Sound.  Unless thee is another silent setting I am overlooking. It has never rang through the speaker... just rings in the headphone.

  • Can you sync calendar and contacts over the air to...

I'm considering getting an E71 or E63, but apart from email I really want to be able to sync calendar (and contacts)over the air, not just from to/from Outlook on my PC - is this possible ? It's not really explained clearly in any of the specs and doco I've been reading.
Also, if I receive a calendar invitation as email, will it appear on the Nokia and can I accept it, and is it written to the calendar locally and at the POP server, or is this kind of behaviour only supported by Windows Mobile devices?

POP (post-office protocol) is only for email retrieval (and SMTP, simple message transfer protocol, for sending).
If you want to sync calendar/contacts, then it is done over SyncML (synchronization markup language).
Also "proprietary" synchronization protocols, like Microsoft's ActiveSync allows message/contacts/calendar/tasks synchronization.
Nokia supports ActiveSync over-the-air through the Mail for Exchange software.

Yes you can.  I do it all the time.

  • Can you help with an arithmetic over/underflow error?

I have learned that the '0' or null value is the problem and I have fix it in a couple of instances such as:
    if  (TotalBreakdown>0) then (Breakdown5/TotalBreakdown) endif
Now I have a more complex situation that will not work.  This is the best I could do with this one and now I am having an issue with the '100'.
    if ( ContractAmt >0 and ReimbFee > 0 ) then (ReimbFee/ContractAmt)* 100   and it returns error below.
I am sure it is an easy fix but indeed one that escapes me and I have not been able to find a solutions.
Thank you in advance for any help I can get.

Is that the entire script? I any case, you should post this in the LiveCycle Designer forum.

  • Can you:  Sync Calendar, Contacts, & Tasks over the internet?

    Hey!
We have a iMac and love it. I am primarily a PC user at work and am used to a windows mobile device that syncs Contacts, Calendar, & tasks over the internet.
As stated we have the iMac. I also have the .Mac account which currently publishes our calendar to a read only web site.
    Here's the Q's I have as a perspective buyer:
Can the iPhone sync up with the calendar on my Mac?
Can the iPhone sync up contacts with my Mac?
Can the iPhone sync up tasks with my Mac?
*When I use the term "sync" I mean that if I update something on the mac, it shows up automatically on thie iPhone and when I enter an item into the iPhone it shows up on the Mac.*

No. The iPhone does not support any Over the Air (OTA) syncing at this time. With the 2.0 release in June the iPhone will support OTA syncing with Exchange servers.

  • Can you carry forward plan amounts on orders at year-end?

We use KOCO to carryforward Internal Order Budgets and KOCF to carryforward Order Committments, but is there a way to move the PM Order Plan amounts from one fiscal year to the next?
The issue we are having is that if the PM Order is linked to a WBS Element, the remaining plan amount from the previous year stays on S_ALR_87013558 Project Report, even when actual costs for the order are incurred in the following year. In this scenario the Project Assigned Total is overstated, because the order costs are in the Actual column and the RemOrdPlan column.
Any help would be appreciated ...
    Thanks,
    Kay Clyburn

Let's assume that Current PL Leave is Quota 10 (linked to Time Type 9010), that PL Leave Balance is Quota 12 (linked to Time Type 9012) and that PL Encashment is Quota 14 (linked to Time Type 9014), and that they all have the same validity dates.
Create a PCR that is activated on the last day of the validity period of PL Leave Quotas (for the relevant ESG Grps and PSA Grps).  The Quota 10 Balance is transfered to Time Type 9011, and the Quota 12 Balance is transfered to Time Type 9013.
Create a PCR that is activated on the first day of the validity period of PL Leave Quotas (for the relevant ESG Grps and PSA Grps).  Yesterday's value of TT 9011 and 9013 are added together, the sum is checked against the Constant (from V_T511K) holding the maximum transferable, and the lesser of that balance or the maximum is transfered to Time Type 9012, any excess being transfered to Time Type 9014.
I have never created "Automatic Encashment", but I believe that it could be created by substituting the creation of TT 9014 by the creation of the Time Evaluation Wage Type 9014 in table ZL (and not having a Quota 14).  In Payroll Calculation, that WT could then be valuated and paid.

  • Can you restore Time Machine to any Intel based Mac?

I have a bet with a friend on this one.
If you have a full Time Machine backup of your Intel based Mac and your Mac breaks down, can you use your Time Machine to restore the full system to any other Intel based Mac? Or is your Time Machine backup specific to the computer model you were using?
Similarly, if you are running your Intel based Mac off of an external drive (like a portable USB drive), can you carry that drive with you and boot any other Intel based Mac off of it, so you can, for example, use the same system at work and at home?
    Thanks,
    doug

The backup is specific to one particular computer, not just a computer of the same model. You can use Migration Assistant on a different computer to get all your user accounts and data onto another computer if that computer already has OSX installed.
Similarly, if you are running your Intel based Mac off of an external drive (like a portable USB drive), can you carry that drive with you and boot any other Intel based Mac off of it, so you can, for example, use the same system at work and at home?
Not always. It won't work on a Mac that shipped with an OSX more recent than that on the USB drive. Also there are some OSX updates that install only on certain hardware, so you my want to run Softwae Update when you move the USB drive to a different Mac.

  • Yet Another Expressing anger and dissatisfaction over the Cyan situation. How can you ignore so many and not answer a single question about this?

When I bought my Icon it was advertised as being "8.1 ready." Soon, I was led to believe, I would have Cortana. I was told that there were improvements to the camera that were in the Cyan firmware. As this phone had high spec hardware and was being called the Windows "flagship phone" on Verizon, I had no reason to doubt the update would arrive.
Not only did it not, as we are all aware, but as months went by and people took to this forum, other Windows forums and Twitter to complain and question, Verizon has never put out a simple clear statement to their customers about what their intentions are and when they might take action. I feel deceived and ignored.
To not address this in any way when so many are so vocally asking is rude. Quite simply rude.
Even today the Icon is available online at the Microsoft store and the copy there says that this phone is "Windows Phone 8.1 ready" with an asterisk that leads to the disclaimer that "update availability and timing varies by carrier." It has been four months since this update began rolling out.
What has led me to post this and lend my voice to the chorus is the articles published in the last day or two saying that Verizon has now changed the status of the update to "under development." Once again, without a single word of explanation or apology. Without a single message to all of their customers who have been asking for information for months. Again, just rude.
These articles suggest the reason for the delay is Verizon's dissatisfaction with how their apps are working with 8.1. Of course there is no way for me to know if this is true since Verizon will not say anything at all about it. So I might as well believe what the reports say I guess. This of course makes the whole thing so much worse.
Verizon, are you seriously holding up this thing that all of your customers want so as to make sure the horrible bloatware that no one wants will "work"?! You can't put out the update and then fix your terrible apps yourself like every other app maker? Only so that we can then uninstall them anyway? This is ridiculous and insulting.
Verizon is always trying to disable phone features to customer's detriment and their profit. I don't doubt that is what this delay is about. Now it is difficult to tether my phone without paying an extra fee even though the feature is built into Windows Phone. Just a way to keep me from using the data that I payed for and that is allotted to me. In the old days you couldn't move pictures off of your phone through the usb cable you had. You had to send them over the network and use data.
Why not try providing services instead of taking them away and delaying them? Why not treat customers well instead of ignoring their questions? Why not do what is right and allow Microsoft to update their hardware, hardware that we bought after being told that it was 8.1 ready?

    Hi Danny-CoolKID,
AIM for Mac is not at version 5.9
    It is here http://www.aim.com/getaim/mac/latestmacosx.adp?aolp=0
It is still at version 4.7 and the pages style has not been changed along with the other AIM pages.
It does NOT do Audio or Video Chats.
If you are looking at text only then also consider
    1) Proteus (Site being revamped at present)
    2) AdiumX
Both these are third party software that can connect to multiple services.
As iVmichael says there are other crossplatform solutions as well.

  • Can you help with my troubles connecting to Ethernet in Europe???

Hi, so the deal is that my boss is in Italy (lucky her) and her iBook isn't recognizing the ethernet cable. Any ideas???

    Hi eryntracy,
...my boss is in Italy (lucky her) and her iBook isn't recognizing the ethernet cable. Any ideas???
Ethernet cables are standardized. There's no such thing as a US ethernet cable and a European Ethernet cable.
There are two basic Ethernet cables:
A straight through cable (the most common one), which is used to connect to a hub or switch, and
A cross over cable used to operate in a peer-to-peer fashion without a hub/switch.
Some interfaces can cross and un-cross a cable automatically as needed, really quite nice.
Which iBook model does she have? Some users reported that the early iBook models required a cross-over Ethernet cable. Also if you're trying to connect @ a hotel network she could always check with their IT dept.
