Can you copy MiniDV Camera to DVD directly through iDVD?

I want to archive MiniDV tape to DVD.
Roxio Toast imports and burns tape directly to DVD in NTSC. However, I cannot access this format with iMovie.
What is the procedure to archive raw footage to DVD such that it can be accessed by iMovie and in the future Final Cut Express?
Is this an appropriate way to archive tape for use in iMovie?
Thanks

My understanding is that iDVD 5 has "one-step" DVD which will do what you asked. But I would look into it more since I don't do that (burn tape to DVD for archive). However, a DVD (unless it is a data DVD) is NOT the way to archive a tape. The best way to archive a tape is to push the tab over and never use it again; catalog it and store it. A 60-minute mini-DV tape has 13 gigs of information. That is approximately 4 single layer data DVDs or two dual layer DVD all of which will cost more in both time & money than simply saving the tape.

  • Can you copy onto dual layer dvds

Have just purchased a 17" 1.67 ghz powerbook and was wondering if the dvd burner can burn onto dual layer dvds
    Many Thanks

No currently shipping PowerBook is advertised as having the capability to burn dual layer DVDs, and they can't be burned in a single layer drive. To check what types of disks your optical drive can burn to in Tiger, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and click on More Info. Once the System Profiler has opened, check the information for your burner; all the types of disks you can burn will be listed here.

MiniDV was a great format, one I still use often. I also still use iMovie HD6 to process it and, for all the iterations of iMovie that followed it, I still believe it was one of Apple's greatest movie software programmes, next to Final Cut Pro, using a timeline method of editing. That was also in the day which Apple put Superdrives into their computers, so that you could not only make your movie in iMovie, but you could render it to iDVD and then burn the DVD. Now you need to buy an external burner.
Since iMovie HD6 and iDVD 6 were "universal" software, it has continued to work through the many OS releases since it came out with Tiger, I believe it was. So, it may still work with Mavericks too and, if you could locate a copy of iLife 06, probably used, you might enjoy the difference that HD6 has over all iMovie releases since then.
Not saying you can't process your MiniDV with current iMovie versions, but I'm not the one to speak about that.

  • Can you make a backup on DVD of OS X 10.5.8?

After spending an hour+ on the phone with support.... I was told I can put Leopard 10.5.8 on my "new to me" G5 desktop, but I'd have to find a 3rd party... blah blah to download. After hanging up, I go to talk to husband and find his laptop has 10.5.8.  Can we copy this onto a DVD, then install it on mine? If so, how would we do that??????????  This old woman is seriously aggravated.

    Two options:
Boot your computer into Target Disk Mode and connect it to his computer using a Firewire cable. Boot his computer normally. You should find a disk icon on his Desktop for the hard drive in your computer. Use Disk Utility to clone his hard drive to yours using the Restore option of DU.
Get an external Firewire drive, clone his drive to the external drive. Boot your computer from the external drive then use Disk Utility to clone the external drive to your computer's hard drive.

  • Can you import video from a DVD?  If so how

Can you import video from a DVD? I have some home DVD's made on my PC. My PC program (Roxio) allowed me to pull clips off of a DVD, but I can not seem to figure out how to do it with iMovie on my Mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi, I'll see if I can help. The only way I know of importing directly from iMovie off of a DVD is with a converter box hooked up to an external DVD player. However there are a few freeware programs you could try. One is Handbrake, with it you can convert your DVD into a MPEG-4 file, this is incredibly easy however the quality will be a little lower than that of a DVD. Another program is MactheRipper which will rip the entire DVD onto your hard drive but you will have to hunt through all the files to find the ones you want. I hope this helps.

Can you copy multiple audio (text to speech) files from one slide onto a new slide at once? OR do you have to copy and paste each line of text to speech and insert into new slide?

    Hi there
I believe that you end up with a single file that you can use. Once you get that created, it's an audio file in the library. You may then add the audio file to another slide or object by looking in the Library after choosing to add audio.

  • Can you copy/paste files from the Finder to Mail in Lion, or drag them onto the Mail icon in the Dock to create a new message and attach the files to it?

Message title says it: Can you copy/paste files from the Finder to Mail in Lion, or drag them onto the Mail icon in the Dock to create a new message and attach the files to it?
I can't find anything in the Knowledge Base that says these two options no longer work or still do.
I do not have a system capable of running Lion, but I need to know the answer nonetheless.

Gee, I don't know: "paste attachments mail Lion"? ;-)
One further question, if I may: in Panther (which is where I've aggregated nearly 7 years of mail), if you copy more than one file in the Finder, switch to Mail, and paste the files into a new message, only the file names paste in. If you copy one file and paste it into a Mail message, you get the file, not just the name. Is that still true, or has that (IMHO) bug been fixed since 10.3.9?

Can you copy an insert in Logic? You can in Pro Tools, anyone know how?

Yes. ⌥⌘-drag an insert to any other slot and it will be copied (with the same settings). ⌘-drag it and it will be moved only.

    NO.
You sync songs from your computer to both devices.
All of your music should be on your computer in itunes.  You can sync it to your Nano from there.
