Can you restore an iTunes Library from an iPod Touch??

I had a hard drive crash on my PC and lost my iTunes Library. Can I recreate it from my iPod Touch? My fear is that I'll connect my iPod and everything will be erased. I have not yet downloaded new iTunes s/w.
Jim

Open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" and choose Ok before connecting your device.
iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
Purchased applications can be downloaded over again, see this article for details: How to redownload purchased applications from the App Store
For everything else (music from CDs etc.) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod Touch or iPhone. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer data (such as playcounts and ratings), movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.
A selection of iPod/iPhone to iTunes utilities:
Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Once you have recovered everything from the iPod and your iTunes library has been rebuilt it will be safe to sync again.
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

To restore non-purchased music on the iTunes Store to iTunes from the iPod, you need a third-party application as Senuti > http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ You can use others, but this has worked perfectly for me

  • How can I restore my iTunes library from iPod after a HD crash?

My computer HD crashed and had to be replaced....
I've just installed iTunes and connected my iPod, I can't find a way to restore the iTunes library from the iPod.
I keep all my music on an external HD, everything that is on the iPod (~140GB) is on the external HD (and more) so I don't want to restore the library from the iPod to the HD nor recreate playlists, etc.
    What can I do?
    Thanks for your help

Check out the following post. It will work with your iPod video.
Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.

Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Can I transfer my itunes library from my ipod to my new imac?  If so how is it done?

Can I transfer my itunes library from my ipod to my new imac?  If so how is it done?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Of course. The best would be to transfer the iTunes library from your old Mac or PC to the new Mac, so you will keep everything and you won't have to use any third-party app.
Anyway, if you don't have access to the old PC or Mac, you can transfer songs from the iPod to your Mac. If you purchased all the songs on the iTunes Store, just open iTunes, connect the iPod and transfer the songs. If you are using an iPod touch, you will lose everything if you sync it with iTunes on the new iMac.
Another method is to use an app like Senuti to transfer the songs to iTunes, being a safer way to transfer them if you aren't sure that you will lose your songs

  • How can i transfer my itunes library from my ipod to my laptop

how can i transfer my itunes library from my ipod to a new laptop

3 things you need to transfer music from iPod to itunes: iPod, computer, iTunes.
step 1 connect your ipod to your computer via the white USB cable.
step 2 open My Computer, or just Computer from the start menu and look for the ipod drive. It should be in the (F:) drive. You will see the ipod logo in the listing of disk drives.
step 3 Now you should have a new folder called ipod_control. Open that folder up and you should see the following: Calendar, Contacts, ipod_control, notes, photos, ect. If you are trying to save all of your music then the ipod_control folder is the only one you need to worry about.
step 3 Open the ipod_control folder then open the music folder. Copy each one of those folders (should look similar to these: F00, F01 ...) onto your computer.
step 3 Open itunes and insert the new folder you created on your computer's desktop into: library ---> Music

  • HT1364 can you move an itunes library from pc to mac?

    Hi everyone,
The days of my laptop are nearing the end and I'm strongly leaning towards purchasing a macbook. Can you transfer your media library from pc to mac?
Can you export a copy your library onto an external drive as I don't know how much longer this laptop will last?
    Thanks for the help

Sorry, I obviously wasn't clear. If you replicate the library from Computer 1 to Computer 2 by copying it, then all will be well. I routinely sync my iPhone and iPad both at home and at work using a single library that I migrate between the two locations via an external drive which is kept up do date using SyncToy.
Backup the iPod touch on Computer 1.
Copy the entire iTunes folder from Computer 1 to Computer 2, replacing any existing iTunes folder on Computer 2.
Check that content is accessible in the migrated library. (Won't be a problem for a standard iTunes library where all the content is inside the iTunes Media folder which in turn is inside your iTunes folder).
Connect iPod touch to Computer 2.
    Sync.
In the unlikely event that something goes wrong (it won't) then you can connect the device back to Computer 1 to restore it.
Note device backups are not stored within the iTunes library and stay on the machine on which they were created. It is theorectically possible to migrate them but there isn't really any point. Once you have synced the iPod with the copy of the library on Computer 2 then Computer 2 will make its own backup of the device.

  • Trying to upload music to my itunes library from my ipod touch.

i have windows 7,when i plug in other devices i can see the things on that device and upload them to my itunes library.but when i plug in the touch it doesnt show up under my computer.its an older version of ipod touch.it shows up in the itunes library, but not under my windows librarys

What do you mean by other devices? To access the files on the iPod from you computer other than from syncing and transferring iTunes purchases from iPod to computer you need a third-party program. Some of those programs are discussed here:

  • How can I restore my itunes library from iphone 4?

My backup files failed to restore my itunes library music after I had to reinstall Win 7. I followed all the instructions from Apple but my music library is empty. It now shows duplicate folders in my itunes file under 'My Music.'
Is there a third party software that will let me back up my iphone music so it will not get erased by itunes? Or is there some way to use icloud to send my iphone music to itunes?

lol, nevermind. I came across an article that made it easy. For anyone else with this problem it's real simple.
    Open itunes
    File>Add Folder to Library
select 'itunes' and it will add your music to your library
Although it went through all my apps asking if I want to replace or don't replace with newer, when it finished all my music appeared in itunes just like I left it before reinstalling Win 7. Easy Peasy. I've seen others with same problem but nobody seemed to have this easy solution.
Now I can finally plug in my iphone and sync without losing all my music from my iphone.

  • My PC died. How can I reform my iTunes library from my iPod on a new PC?

I have two separate iTunes libraries. Jazz and Pop are on a Mac Based iPod and Classical on a Windows based one. My old PC failed and I can't get at the hard drive. I have the music from the iTunes library on my iPod. How do I transfer this into iTunes on a new PC?

    Preliminary conditions:
Through settings, you must log the Apple TV in with your iCloud account.
In iTunes, choose Advanced > Turn on Home Sharing from the menu bar.
The Apple TV and your computer must be connect to the same network.
The Apple TV is sold in many different countries. However, iTunes is discriminately serviced. Whereas in the United States, movies and musics are sold in their entirety, there is no such services in Korea ― only app purchases. If your iCloud (or Apple) acount falls into the latter category, and you login to the Apple TV with that account, Apple TV will automatically convert its systems to the similar limitations.
Here's what happens when I login with my U.S. account to the Apple TV.
But when I login with my Korean account, theres only the 'Computers' and 'Settings' menu.

  • How to restore Itunes library from stolen Ipod Touch to a new Ipod touch?

My Ipod Touch 3th gen was stolen. I bought a new Ipod Touch 4th gen. How do I restore everything that is in Itunes library to it?
Should I just give the new device the same name of the other one and sync?
Will that transfer the apps I bought on the old one too?
I also have mobile me account and it was updated 1 day before the robbery. Do I need to do anything about mobile Me?
    Thanks!

You can restore from the backup of the old one.
OR just sync whatever you like to the new one.
You can sync as many ipods as you like to the same computer.

  • How can I restore all the music from my iPod touch to a new iTunes/computer?

I have an iPod touch 4th gen running on iOS6, a computer running on Windows 7, and iTunes version 10.7.0.21 (newest as updated today).
Basically my laptop got destroyed beyond repair, the laptop that my iPod was synched to.
I have iTunes now on another computer, how can I get my music from my iPod to the iTunes on the new computer? Even getting it onto the computer will do at this point, as I don't want to have to download/rip CDs to get my entire music collection back.
When my iPod is plugged in I can click on 'transfer purchases' but this only restores the apps to iTunes.
When I had my old iPod classic, and was using an older version of iTunes, when I plugged my iPod into a new iTunes it said something along the lines of 'there is music on this iPod that is not currently in your iTunes, would you like to transfer to iTunes?' But there is no option like this now, I don't know if it's because its a different and newer iPod, or because a newer version of iTunes.
Please tell me there's a way to copy all my music from my iPod to my computer, and preferably straight into iTunes so I don't have to input all the info again.
Don'tcha just miss the old 'copy and paste music' mp3 players you had as a kid? *sighs at how complicated technology got*
