Can you use FaceTime or iChat to call a non-iPhone?

Can you use FaceTime or iChat to call a someone who does not have an iPhone?

Hi,
Yes.
Just to be clear let me qualify that.
FaceTime can contact other devices that use FaceTime either by a iPhone Number (includes some iPads) or an Apple ID.
There is a FaceTime for Mac version so the person you contact (by Apple IDs) does not have to be on an iPhone.
As well as iPhones certain other iOS 5 devices can use FaceTime and these include iPads as already mentioned and certain version of iPod Touches.
As iChat does not work to iPhones and is an Instant Messaging app that can do Video and Audio Only chats and Screen Sharing, File Transfers, Pics-in-chats, iChat Theatre and more then the answer is also Yes.
I suspect the question was really "Can I contact other phones that can do Video using FaceTime ?"  the answer to that is No.
iChat can Text chat to most client apps on Phones (Jabber or AIM for instance)
Video needs iChat (Or AIM or Trillain on a  PC).

  • Can you use FaceTime using two iPads with same apple id

Have two iPads for wife and I. Both use same apple ID account. Can you use FaceTime between them?

Heres what you do. got to settings>facetime>add an email and than add another email (note: cannot be the same email that you use on your apple ID) A verifaction email will be sent. Go to your email account and verify the email by clicking on the link. Now using the other ipad, make a facetime call to the email you just verified and you can now facetime between the two!
One more side note. Make sure that only the email you just verified has a check mark on it. The other ipad shoud have a check mark next to the orginal apple ID email.

  • HT204380 can you use facetime in other languages

Can you use facetime when language is set to different language other than english in the US?

Is the other person on Wifi?  They may think that they can use Facetime via cellular, but they have to be using wifi as well.  And yes, you can facetime from the US to Europe.

  • Can you use the same charging cable for both an iPhone and an IPad or are they different?  When I use the charging cable for my iPhone on my Ipad, it doesn't charge.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Can you use facetime with wifi only? No SIM card in iphone4

Party A: No SIM Card, in US, calling using WIFI
Party B: SIM Card, in another country, receiving calls, with WIFI
Can Party A and B connect through Facetime?
    Thanks for your time.

You can make video calls through skype.I think without sim you cannot use facetime because facetime needs your sim number.
Slight correction: FaceTime on the *iPhone* needs your SIM number.  FaceTime on the iPod Touch, iPad and MacOS have no such need.
This is one of the things I hate about Apple.  Why not just allow everything to behave the same?  Why should FaceTime, a non-cellular application, have to behave differently on the iPhone than on all other platforms?
(I also don't like that Videos lives in the iPod app on the iPhone, but has it's own app on the iPod Touch and iPad)

  • Can you use facetime from cellular iPhone to wifi iPad Mini?

I've noticed I can connect from my iPhone 4S to an iPad Mini when we are both using wifi.
Howver, I cannot connect to the iPad when I am using cellular only (no wifi) on the iPhone (the iPad is wifi only).
I can connect to other iPhones when we both use cellular, so I know it's not an issue due to a carrier restriction of my cellular use (Verizon).
Is there an incompatiblity between using facetime from a cellular device to a wifi-only device? I would have though Apple would have a bridge between internet and cellular data for this.
    Thanks

This is copied from the Apple iOS features website.
*FaceTime video calling requires a FaceTime-enabled device for the caller and recipient and a Wi-Fi connection. FaceTime over a cellular network requires iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, or iPad (3rd generation) with cellular data capability. Availability over a cellular network depends on carrier policies; data charges may apply.
Sometimes I find the "small print" to be even more confusing, but the way that I interpret this is that you have to go cellular to cellular. Cellular to WiFi doesn't work. It does seem to make sense, if you are sending the "message" or trying to connect over cellular, the person on the other end would need to pick up the "message" via cellular since it was sent that way by you.

  • Can you use facetime with same apple id but 2 email addresses (myself and my daughter)

I am having difficulty setting up Facetime.  My daughter and I have the 4thgen iTouch and are trying without luck to use the same apple id and 2 different email addresses to use Facetime.  Apple sends me a verification email to change the email address on the apple id to her email address, which I do not want.  Is it possible to set up Facetime this way.  If I set her up a separate apple id will all her old music and apps (under my apple id) still sync without problem?  Thanks

    Yes
    http://www.imore.com/how-use-multiple-apple-ids-one-computer-and-itunes
However you can only sync all media from one iTunes library/computer. However, one can sync music and videos with different computers/libraries if you have iTunes setup to manually sync. See that method included here:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod

  • Can you use the iPod connector cable to charge the iPhone or

only the cable that came with the iPod?
Also, I put the iPhone briefly into my old inMotion speakers and a message
came up saying that the device didn't support an iPhone and would either not
charge my iPhone or have bad consequences for my iPhone-i wasn't sure-it did
    work in the speakers tho.

I use an iPod connector almost all the time and have never had a problem, even after market iPod connectors, but you'll get a different response depending on who you talk to. The guy at the Genius Bar told me yes, but phone support said no. Short answer...You should be able to use the iPod connector.
When you plug the iPhone into some 3rd party devices, you'll get a message stating "not compatible with iPhone" but that is because you are going to get interference because of the cell signal. You can put it into Airplane mode to avoid the interference or just deal with the interference and just click OK. That being said, I have read other posts where these devices do cause damage to the iPhone so proceed at your own risk.

  • Can you use facetime on macbook

How can i get a facetime application with macbook?

It comes included on all refurbished MacBooks. Otherwise, it is a $0.99 download from the app store. Then you can use it just like you would on other devices!

  • Can you use FaceTime on the same wifi connection

My daughter and I are trying to FaceTime each other. We r both using the same Internet connection. When I FaceTime her on my ipad2 it's ringing from my end. But she is not reciveing any ringtone on her iPod touch. And when she tries to FaceTime me the same thing happens. Is it because where both connected to the same wifi?

What is a SW issue? The iPod is the latest one has the FaceTime app. We both have different email addresses. Also having trouble with I message my daughter recives my messages but goes to  her email and not to her imessage and she can't send me messages. Always says not delivered.
    Have tried everything.

  • Can I use touchID for accepting a call?

In security mode I can only swipe to accept call , sadly can it be a good idea to use TouchID for it?

    Edeke wrote:
When the iPhone is locked to open you use the 4 digit code or your fingerprint identification to open you're iPhone, this is for security so I call it security/safety mode.
I know the home button when the iPhone is locked is pretty much useless.
Therefore my question; can it be a good idea to accept a phone call using TouchID? Maybe with a toggle on/off inside settings.
Everybody has access to an unattended mobile phone to accept a call even when locked not to your email/messages conversations.
    Not logic in my view.
TouchID is enough to prevent unattended calls from your trousers or bag, before TouchID we had the push, swipe and a 4 digit code to prevent it.
So, you want to make it so that only your fingerprint can be used to answer an incoming call to your iPhone, when it is locked?
If that's correct, let me explain why I think it's a bad idea and it will never be implemented.
Hypothetical situation:  You accidentally leave your phone at the mall.  An honest person finds it, then turns it in to the security office.
You try to call your lost iPhone from another phone, hoping someone will answer it and tell you where your phone is.  But even though the security officer has the phone, he cannot answer the incoming call, because you've locked it to just your finger print.
That's just one of a dozen situations where this feature is a bad idea.  But feel free to submit your input to Apple at www.apple.com/feedfback.
