Can your Apple ID email address be the same as the address as your Facetime one?
When I try to change the one already associated to Facetime to my apple ID one it says it's already in use
So i just want to know if I can or cant and why

I'm getting up there in age, lol, and I'd like to change my e-mail address (that I made when I was 15) to something more professional. I've been up and down through mac.com and other blog websites, and I can't find anything on the subject of either opening a new account and closing my current one, or just simply changing my current one. The Following is for changing the email associated with your Apple ID not an @me email.
Go here: http://appleid.apple.com
Click on 'Manage Account' - It's a link below the big blue 'Create Account' button.
Sign in and you'll see an edit button next to you're email.
Alternately you can sign into itunes and change it in itunes.
Open itunes > Store > View My Account > Apple Id Summary - Apple ID > Edit
Be aware that you can only associate a device with a different Apple ID once every 90 days.
WARNING- if you are using icloud.
I changed my email and I can't figure out how to change it on my mac or on my iphone without deleting my Documents, Calendars, etc.. that I've sent to icloud.
In theory you should be able to sign out and delete the accounts and create a new one but when I go to sign out it warns me that all the data (except contacts) that I've sent to icloud will be removed from my computer/device. You should be able to redownload it once you sign back in under the new email but it just seems ludicrous and a waste of time to delete all my data from my computer just to download it again.
There may be a solution to this dilemma but I do not know what it is.

I created an Apple ID for iTunes using a work email address and left that company before I had an opportunity to change the email and password for that same account. Now I can't seem to login to that account and I can't choose the option for forgot password because it will send email to the old workplace. How do I change the email address to a new one that I can access?
If you remeber the password to that Apple ID then follow these steps
1 - Make sure you have an email address that is NOT an Apple ID
2 - Go to AppleID.Apple.com
3 - Where it reads Manage Apple ID - Sign in
Once you are signed in want to make sure the email address you are wanting to use is NOT set up as a "Recovery/Rescue" email for this account.
[To check this - Main page where you see Primary ID - below do you see the email address you want to use listed towards the bottom? Yes - Delete / No - Good ./. If made any adjustments "Save" Next on the left select "Password & Security" - Answer your security questions you set up "if you have any" then scroll towards the bottom and check to see if you see the email address you want to use. Yes - Delete / No - Good] <-> Also you can change your password on this page as well. Any adjustments made "Save"
Once this is done go back to the main page where you should read "Primary ID" and change the email address that is showing to the new email address youo want. "Save" Done

Can not change the Apple ID email address of the person who had computer before me. Email box is un-editable & I wish to use my own account not previous owners.
If you're trying to update an application, you need to delete it and then download it from your Apple ID. You may want to erase the internal drive and install a fresh OS.

I changed my apple ID email address, and now I can't access my iCloud because it was listed with the previous email address. What can I do?
If the old ID ("email address") is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

My Apple ID (email address) is somehow registered to the US store even though I live in the UK. Is there any way I can close the US account and open a UK one with the same ID/email?
No, but you can change the country of your iTunes Store account. Sign into your iTunes Store account and click the "change country" link. You'll need a valid UK credit card to complete the change. If you have any credit balance remaining, you'll need to contact the iTunes Store to clear that for you before you'll be able to change the country.
Note that if you purchased anything from the US iTunes Store, you probably will not be able to re-download it nor update apps once you change the country. So you may prefer to set up a new email address so you can create a new account in the UK iTunes Store. You can change the email address to which receipts and other notices are sent to your actual email address, if you prefer.

I've received an email of an unauthorised access which states it was done in Canada, is there any way I can request Apple to inform me what the IP address that made unauthorised access was?
I want to know as it possibly relates to other security issues I've had of late and it would help further my investigation. Would a subject access request possibly allow me to recieve this information? As far as I know there's no way to see a list of when and where I sign in using my Apple ID?Sorry but no, Apple cannot give you that information. The only way they could give anyone such an IP address would be if they received a court order to do so, if even then; I don't know what sort of tracking and logs they do.
However, if this email claimed that someone had tried to reset your password and in any way gave you a link to click to confirm your account information, the email was almost certainly a phish. Such phishing messages have been quite common over the last two or three weeks and should be deleted without responding. You may wish to manually type in the URL for Apple's page for managing an Apple ID and change your password, just as a precaution, and make sure you've set good security questions using responses that can't just be looked up for you (they don't have to be real information; you can use any response you wish as long as you can remember what you entered).

When I received my iphone 4s 3 years ago the my apple id and icloud email addresses were the same, it was a student email from the college I attended. This account is no longer active, but when I changed my apple id email address to a current email (gmail account) the icloud address didn't change over. I now have no ability to sign into icloud on my phone and icloud hasn't been updated in nearly a year. I wanted to figure out this problem before I upgraded to the Iphone 6 this December. Is there any way this is possible?

I recently changed my Apple ID to a new email address. My old one still is in my phone, and cannot be permanently deleted as it says that Find my iPhone is still on. I can't turn it off because I do not have the password to my old "deleted" Apple ID. If you can help, please do! Thank you very much!

I changed my apple id email address last week, not a problem I just entered the correct info on my 6 apple devices for FaceTime, AppStore and iTunes.
The issue now, is that I have changed my appleid password so that the kids couldn't install any apps and charge my credit card.
Now I am getting an icloud authorisation error, it is telling me that the account (old apple id) or password are incorrect.
What have I done and how can I fix it?
Do I have to 'delete account' on my iphone and add a new one? I have just paid for the max icloud storage plan as well.I FOUND THE SOLUTION!
I had the same exact problem. I had my old apple ID connected to a school email which did not exist anymore. My ipad was prompting me to put the password in for that ID and I could not delete it from my ipad because the "Find My Ipad" was turned on, once again prompting for password. I called apple and they said this Apple no longer exists and is not in there system, which I knew already. After hours on the phone nobody could help me. Try this.
-Go to create a new Apple ID and use the same email address as the old apple ID which is locked in on your ipad
-Create a new password and all that, it will say it send a verification link to your email, in my case my email no longer exists so I could not do this
- I called Apple to explain this problem and I asked if they could verify it for me, which they did after I convinced them it was worth a try. The guy told me that the verification shouldnt matter and should still be able to login but he did it anyway. You can try skipping this step but if it doesn't work then go ahead.
-Go to ICloud and click on your account, the email should be grayed out but it should allow you to change that password, put in the new password which you just created.
-This allowed me to sign in to accept the new terms and conditions but it said "unable to conncet to server" so I just backed out and went to "Delete Account" and it worked!
The whole idea is to re-create your old apple ID into Apple's system and then use that new password. The guy at Apple said tons of people called about this problem and nobody could solve it. I thanked him for helping me and he thanked me for helping him. I hope this helps you! -
How can I transfer albums from one of my accounts to another? My new account (Apple ID) email address is no longer available to me since I lost my job.
OK, now I have another problem. I typed in my email address wrong. Instead of optonline.net I typed in optimum.net. Though I can google my email address and it defaults to the optonline.net the email to confirm the change is not showing up. I know, real stupid. Now I cannot log onto either address as the original is not changed and the email has not showed so am I done here? I appreciate your help!!! Carl

Can't change Apple ID Email address
I have Apple ID associated with old hotmail.com email account and now i want to change it to my actual email account on yahoo.com.
When Face time was released by apple i used my Apple ID to login and added my yahoo email account like another email.
now when i try to change my Apple ID email from web sit i receive error "This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID." but when i use App Store to manage my account and change my email from there it accepts but on yahoo i receive email only information that my account info have changed and when i try to login it says that my email is not verified and asks me to verify, also on web site on my account management my primary email have status "unverified" and option to resend verification email which i click and i don't receive nothing on my yahoo account.
Do you people have any idea how i can change my Apple ID to my new yahoo account and if this issue is connected with apple or yahoo?

Here's what to do.
Create a new email that isn't associated with apple. And make it you Apple ID using the following steps.
1) Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. You can download iTunes, free-of-charge, from the Apple website:

Note: Installing the latest version of iTunes will not affect your library or any items in your account that you haven't downloaded.
2) Open iTunes, then from the Store pull-down menu at the top, choose Sign In.
3) Enter your iTunes Store account name and password and then click Sign In.
4) From the pull-down Store menu at the top, choose View My Account, or click the link below:
https://buy.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/accountSummary
5) If prompted, enter your iTunes Store account name and password, then click the View Account button.
6) Click the Edit button on the Apple Account Information screen.
7) Enter a new Apple ID (must be an email address) and/or a new password. Please make sure the email address you enter is one that you actively check. It is not possible to make the iTunes Store send email to an address different than the one being used for your Apple ID.
8) Click Done to save your changes.
Once this email has been verified. Use "manage accounts" https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/ to change your Apple IDs to the desired email address. -

If the iCloud account ends with an @icloud.com, then that is something that you cannot change it. If that is not the case, then you will need to sign out and may need to change it back to the old Apple ID to do so.

I did not do my research before changing my Apple ID from an outdated email address to a current one. I just changed and verified and though I was all set. WRONG! Now I cannot sign in to iCloud because it will not let me enter the new Apple ID. I read the 10/30/13 randers4 post to just change your Apple ID back then sign in and change it to the new email address again and then you can sign in, but I cannot change back to the prior email address Apple ID because that is no longer an active email account (or at least not mine). Any thoughts on how to get signed into iCloud when it does not allow me to type in the new Apple ID and the old Apple ID no longer exists.
I see that many people have asked, but no one has come up with a solution that I found.
Thanks for any help!This did not work for me. My old email account for iCloud still pops up on my screen every time I open my macbook. I've deleted it, reset it, every thing I can think of and it still shows up. I think six months of this is more than enough time to wait.

Your apple ID (email address) cannot be used to set up imessage at this time
My iMessage recently stopped working. When I attempt to log back in it tells me "your apple ID (email address) cannot be used to set up imessage at this time" then gives me a code to share with Apple support. (See screen shot). Any suggestions?
There is no official public documentation of that error message as far as I know, but according to reports, it can mean (at least sometimes) that the same Apple ID is being used with the iTunes Store or one of the other Apple content stores, and the payment method is invalid. Sign in to the store and review your account. You do not, of course, have to provide any billing information to set up an account to use only with iMessage, as it's a free service.
Otherwise, do what the error message tells you to do.
