Canada Area Code 249

I was chatting with Customer Support for an hour on Monday about this issue, who kept treating me like a moron but couldn't understand this very simple issue. Area code 249 is not in South Sudan, it is in Ontario, Canada. Google it. My daughter has a new phone number and I've had Skype to Go for years and use it to call Canada. All their area codes were 705, but now she has 249 and Skype will not recognize it and cannot call it. What is up? Will I need to cancel my Skype to Go that I have had for years? Bummer.

Here's an update on this issue from over a year ago: nothing has been corrected. Good grief.

  • Skype to Go - Home Area Code not listed in set up

I live in the 807 area code in Canada and it is not listed when I try to set up my skype to go number(s). Is this a glitch, or is the service not available in all areas?
    Thanks for letting me know.

Sometimes numbers go fast, however that said, just in case, you might want to contact customer service and ask when/if these area codes will be available. Please copy/paste the link below into the browser window of your choice to do that:

  • My phone does not show contact names for country and area code while having in coming calls. Although, I have endorsed the name with numbers. How do I the problem. My one is a iphone 3s device with updated os. Please text to help

My iphone does not recognize saved contact number while having incoming calls due to country and area code as auto prefix. How do i fix the problem. How do i ensure that the phone recognize calls with and without the country and area code. Please text to help.

    1) Open the Phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
    2) When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
    3) Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating something like, "Settings updated."
    4) Open the Task Manager and kill the Phone, Message, and Contacts Applications
    5) Wait a few minutes (I waited 3 just to be extra safe)
    6) Open the Message App to verify the fix

  • I keep getting calls from non existing area codes and phone numbers.  They are never the same number twice.  How do I stop this?

About a week ago I started getting phone calls on my cell phone from numbers that do not exist, including the area codes.  I can not report these to the Do Not Call list because the area code is non existent.  I'm getting these calls all the time now and never from the same number twice so there's no point in blocking them.  If I answer I may or may not get a person who has an accent from India so heavy that I can't understand what they are saying.  This is getting to the point where I just want to cry I'm so frustrated.  Anyone else having this issue or does anyone know how to stop it?
    Thank you

  • How do I add an area code to a phone number after clicking number in text message?

Some people send 7 digit phone number in emails and text messages, and I need to add the area code to the front of the number, or else AT&T will choke. I have not found a simple way to do this.
Current method: copy number to notes, add area code, then paste full number into dialer

Any carrier in the U.S. will choke unless the number is in your area code.
I'm not aware of a way to do this. Selecting the number dials the number.

  • My story of transferring a different area code number during activation

When I got my iPhone, I wanted to port my current number (which was in a different area code from my billing address) to the iPhone. I got stuck on the second page of the activation with a "you cannot transfer this number" message.
I called the AT&T corporate store that I purchased the iPhone from and encountered the worst help in a person that basically said that he didn't know anything about that problem, there was no other person here (i.e. supervisor) and he really couldn't help me and doubted that anyone else could. When I said, "So, there isn't anything I can do at all whatsoever? Like there's no phone number at AT&T or Apple that I can call and get any help activating my iPhone?" He finally, like a light bulb went on, said "I suppose you could call the 800-My-iPhone number. The people at that AT&T corporate store must only hire the most brilliant people. I suppose it could have been his first day or for that matter his first call, but still....
I called 800-My-iPhone and the guy there couldn't figure out why it wasn't letting me activate, so he went off and made a little call to AT&T and came back and said that I have two options. 1) I could just activate with a new phone number and transfer my old phone number later (you have 30 days to transfer--the 30 days probably avoids a transfer fee, but that's a guess) or 2) I would have to put in a request to transfer my number and that might take up to six days. I decided to go ahead and just get a new number and deal with the transfer later. Once I got the iPhone activated and got the new phone number, I started the porting process.
When I called the AT&T Porting phone number to start the process, I got the nicest lady that pretty much told me "I wish they had sent you to us first. The reason you couldn't activate with this phone number is because your phone number is in a different area code from your billing address. When the activation process asked for your billing zipcode, you should have entered a zip code from the area where your old phone number's area code was and not your current billing zip code." According to her, that would have allowed the transfer to occur. I wish the 800-My-iPhone people knew this and yes I sent a "One-Way" unacknowledged feedback message into the Apple abyss.
So now the story goes that since I have activated my iPhone in a different area code, the SIM card is locked into that area code. I can still transfer my number, but AT&T has to send me a new SIM card with another temporary number in that area code. Then they have to get the iPhone activated with that SIM card and then they start the whole phone number transfer process.
If I understand this correctly, I will have had two temporary numbers and two SIM cards before the transfer process is over.
It's not over yet, so the story isn't done. I'll see in the next couple of days how the whole "transferring the old phone number" process unfolds.
I can't wait to see how iTunes handles the whole process. That's probably a whole different headache.

Well, you were right about looking for problems in the billing. Even though I had made sure they had closed down the extra account. The problem stems from how they advance bill for next month's service.
When they shutdown the first account (with the temp phone number) they never refunded the advanced payment for the next month, they just kind of forgot about that and didn't have any kind of entry for refunding that pre-paid service.
On the second account (with my current number), I paid for two months of service, but I was paying again on the same month I paid for in the first account. That extra month of service was about $75 of extra charges.
There were all sorts of charges on the first account (like a $175 charge for canceling my account early), which they turned right around and removed. All the extra charges and credits, just confused the issue for not only me, but the customer service agent as well. He kept saying that they had credited me for some $235 of billing and was using that to say that AT&T could not credit me any more.
Finally, I was able to show them that they had not only charged me twice for message service for November, but they also charged me twice for phone service in November too. I think it helped when the agent realized that I only had one phone and one line of service active.
The customer service agent was nice, but with all the other charges and credits, it took a while to get to the bottom of what charge was for what service and where the double billing took place.
Anyway, I did get it straightened out. Thanks for warning me about this. It was that little flag that helped me look for those extra charges. Thanks!

  • Double contacts as "iPhone"...my phone saves the same number twice, once with a 1 before the area code and one without it. It causes two different threads in my texts even of they're saved as the same contact

My wife is having the same problems as a reciever. She works in a school as a teaching assistant and her teacher sends messages that are mixed with previous texts from ages ago.
Can anyone shed some light on this problem or is it only her and this poster?

  • I am unable to change my credit card number, because my profile shows United States therefore it does not accept the phone area code, and zip number, because I live in Switzerland. Please inform me how to do it. Many thanks.

I am unable to change my credit card number because my apple profile shows me as a resident of the United States, although I live in Switzerland. Consequently I cannot edit my area code, zip number, State info, etc. Please advise me how to do it. Many thanks.

    Hello Luis,
To update your billing information, you would need to change your iTunes Store country to be able to enter the information for Switzerland.  I found an article with the steps to update this:
    Change your iTunes Store country
Sign in to the account for the iTunes Store region you'd like to use. Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region.
Follow the onscreen process to change your region, agree to the terms and conditions for the region if necessary, and then change your billing information.
You can find the full article here:

  • Need to be able to block area codes or allow only from specific ones

One of my numbers is receiving calls from several soliciters from Oregon, and all are robo dialing applications that you cannot ask to be removed from.  Since, I don't know anyone from Oregon, I would like to block the whole area code.
I am also on the do not call list, which apparently does not work.  And this is a wireless phone number being solicited.
I consider this is a serious privacy issue.
Entering numbers one at a time will not work, and I'm afraid the default limits of 90 days and 10 callers is poor customer service on Verizon's behalf.  I know, I can double that number for a mere 4.99 a month (sarcasm).  Seems like Verizon is profiting off illegal phone scams if you ask me.

What is it with phone companies? Since the days of Ma Bell and AT&T they have consistantly the very worse in customer service.
Your request to block an entire area code is exactly what is needed to stop all these telemarketing calls from scum who refuse to honor the do not call list. I am computer programmer, it would be very easy to accomplish a block such as this yet Verizon does not seem to offer this.
I get up to  3 a day sometimes from area code 503 on either credit card rates or home security. I am tempted to claim to want the home security product just to get one of them at my door and let them see my .357 home security system while I call the police.
This is harassment pure and simple yet the phone companies seem to keep selling lines to these vermin and ignoring those of us paying exorbitant monthly fees.

  • My photos are not streaming from my iPhone 4 to my iPad 7.  The settings are correct and it always has before I had a recent holiday in Cuba. Those photos didn't stream and now new photos since home in Vancouver, Canada are not?

Hmm... It looks like they are gone forever now then. I can't think of any other way of getting them back apart from restoring from an iTunes or iCloud backup. Somebody else might be able to help but I think they're gone forever. I don't know why they were wiped from your iPod but it could be something to do with security. In the future I would recommend syncing to iTunes or iCloud to prevent it from happening again. You can always make a reservation at the Genius Bar and see what those guys can do because it seems that they are still there, they are just 'hidden' from view. http://concierge.apple.com/reservation/gb/en/techsupport/

  • Address Book won't import local area code

I'm trying to export my contact info from Palm Desktop to Address Book. Everything works fine, expect that AB doesn't import a contact's area code if it's my local area's code. In this case AB only imports a contact's 7 digit phone number. This isn't a problem with area codes outside of my local code, --they import just fine, and I get the whole 10 digits.
I've tried exporting both vCards and text files. By opening the text file with TextEdit, I have verified that Palm Desktop is indeed exporting the area codes --both my local code and distant ones. Yet when I import that same file into AB, contacts in my local area are stripped of the area code.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance, --Brian

Thanks for your questions/suggestions. I think they have helped lead me in the right direction over the past 24 hours, though I still don't have a solution.
To make the long story short:
I believe the problem lies in the fact that as I've added contacts to Palm Desktop over the years, I've not included an area code if they were in my area. Now I'm switching to AB since it can sync with my new cell phone, and I'm needing area codes for all calls. Rather than enter my local code for hundreds of contacts, I've used a Palm preference whic sets up a "default area code."
What I have discovered is that contacts for which I have manually entered an area code transfer to AB just fine. Contacts for which this preference provides the area code lose this information in the transfer. This is baffling, because the two cases look identical when viewed with Textedit, --the area code is visible plain as day in either situation.
Just as puzzling --when AB imports a contact it gives a chance to review the information if the card is a duplicate. When I perform this review a "Text File Import" window appears. In this window areas codes always appear, --whether manually entered or provided by the Palm preference. However, in the "Reviewing Card" window which follows, cards which had Palm preference provided area codes have inexplicably lost those codes, while those with manually entered codes have retained them.
    Any further thoughts?
    Thanks some more, --Brian

  • Voice Dialing and Area Codes

    Hi There,
Does anyone know how I get voice dialing to allow me to include the area code when I ask it to call a phone number?  It currently only allows me to specify 7 digits instead of 10.  I have set up my area code via the Call Log options and the number of digits for National numbers is set to 10.
If you cannot configure it to allow 10 digits, is there any way to configure it to automatically include a default area code when you specify a phone number by saying the digits?
    Thanks.

    Hi Rob,
Thanks for your input.  I actually do exactly the same thing as you described.  However, my question was more for those instances when you don't currently have an entry in your Blackberry for the number you want to call using voice dialing and have to specify the number by saying the digits that comprise the desired phone number.
    Thanks.
