Cannot change/delete login items in Lion

First I tried to delete and change in system> accounts.  No changes
I've tried deleting in library > preferences:
     com.apple.loginwindow.plist
     com.apple.loginwindow.plist.lockfile
Some changes work for one boot up and then revert.
Is there another preference file someplace?
No library in user folder so I don't know where else to go.
I had this problem in Snow Leopard also.  I thought the new system would cure it.

No library in user folder so I don't know where else to go.
There has to be. You were on the right track...
Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.loginitems.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For Lion:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • Cannot delete login item "You cannot change this item because it's managed by your system administrator"

We migrated a server (ldap and file serving) to some new machines, which have new names.  We've got all of the login and file sharing functionality working on the new machines, but wherever we have a mount of a share in the Login Items for a user, we can't get the old machine out of the Login Items.  It's not fatal, but it does make login take a lot longer because it has to fail first.
We can mount the share from the new server, and save THAT in a NEW Login Item just fine -- it's just that when you click on the old defunct one the minus sign is greyed out, and the mouseover says "You cannot change this item because it's managed by your system administrator."  There is a yellow triangle next to the item in the list.  Went into the user's ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginitems.plist and it's not in the file.  The /Library/Preferences don't have anything that looks like a plist of the right name.
Where do I find it and how do I get rid of it?

In response to ManishBhatt94's post today, I may have some information that may be useful to you. I called Microsoft's 800-642-7676 and spoke with a technical representative with questions pertaining to my particular issue. I also have friend that has the
same issue with her computer running windows 8. A representative from my ISP told me how to go into 1)Tools, 2)Internet Options, 3)Connections, 4)LAN settings and uncheck the proxy settings box. However after restarting or shutting down my computer it reappears.
It will also reappears while I play games on Facebook not allowing me continue until I go back into the proxy settings in LAN and uncheck the box AGAIN and AGAIN. A local owner of a computer repair shop told my friend that it was a virus. After speaking with
Microsoft today I was told the same thing/it was more than likely a virus on my personal PC at home. As most people likely do,  I use wireless internet in my home on the affected computer. Solution; as suggested by Microsoft rep was to have the virus
professionally removed either by someone or to use their remote service for a fee of $149 which comes with several guarantees and does not require you to re-install software or documents. I hope that my response was of some help to you. I also kept trying
to fix this problem but wasted a lot of time. He also suggested to Google the proxy problem to see if ANYONE has any alternatives to fixing this problem!

  • How do i remove blackberry from Login items in lion?

any idea? I'm trying to remove blackberry device manager from login item but the its checked and greyed out.

Backup your files to a external data drive and disconnect
Reboot the computer holding the Shift key down to enter Safe mode, the third party kernel extensions will be disabled.
Try the BB uninstaller again and/or
Look in your System/Library/Extensions folder for anything that has the "Blackberry" or "RIM" name in the extension (with .kext at the end of the file) and move it out of the folder.
You may have to consult their web site for a manual uninstall method. Kext stands for Kernel extension obviously.
the free Easy Find can help you locate the files in that folder.
You also can Command r boot into Lion Recovery and install Lion with the
    Restoring OS X 10.5 10.6. 10.7 - simple overwrite OS method
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16276201#16276201
That should kick anything out of OS X itself, then it's just a matter of removing anything in the Applicaitons folder.
If there are remnants still in your user, you can always create a new user and transfer your personal data via the root level/Users/ "shared" folder, once up, then remove the old user.

  • Unable to delete Login Items - they come back (can't add either)

I have a couple of items listed in my Login Items from applications no longer there but every time I go back into System Preferences they are still there. I can see that they can't be found as they show as kind:Unknown rather than application.
Similarly I tried to add an application and while it shows on exit of system preferences it always reverts to the same state next time I look.

I'm not sure about "Leopard", but in "Tiger", "login items" could be configured from at least four different places, but the ones that appear in the "Accounts" pref pane were the ones listed in the user's "~/Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist" file.
The symptom of removed "login items" returning could have other causes, but combined with the inability to persistently add your own new ones suggests that that file may be corrupt or have become locked in some way. Try removing it, then reconfiguring your "login items".

  • Deleted Login Items do not stay deleted. (OS X 10.6.8)

I go to System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items and click the lock, then select unwanted applications and click "-" and re-lock the padlock, but next time I start the computer they are back. How can I remove them?

List the items. You might find them throughout the computer in various Library folders in LaunchAgents, LaunchDaemons, or StartupItems.

  • Deleted login items still opening

    Hi,
I've removed two apps from my login items lists. But they still open whenever I log in. What do I need to do to really kill them dead?

Did you perhaps just uncheck them?
You need to highlight one and hit the little minus icon .

  • BOM Change - Delete an item(s) and insert new line items

    Hi,
We need to mass update BOMs like for some of the existing BOM's we need to delete some line items and insert new line items. We want to use the BOMMAT04 IDOC in LSMW but I'd like to know couple of things before I go ahead with that approach
For instance, I've a finished good material 12345678 and it has three components
                          a) Item 0010 Material 30101010 of quantity 10
                          b) Item 0020 Material 30101011 of quantity 11
                          C) Item 0030 Material 30101012 of quantity 12
Now, I'd like delete Item 0010 and add a new item 0040 Material 30101013 of quantity 13.
In the segment E1STKOM, there is LOEKZ (Deletion Flag) but I dont want to flag for deletion but instead delete the whole line item and add a new line item.
Is there any way to achieve this using BOMMAT04 IDOC? If not, can you please suggest me a better way to do it
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Thanks,
    Srinivas

    Dear Srinivas,
1.IF you want to change for an individual BOM,use CS02,select the item which you want to delete, select the entire and click on
delete button and then add new line items and save.
2.For Mass changes of BOM you can use CS20.
3.Check these functional module's also if you want to change using a report,
CS_BI_BOM_CHANGE_BATCH_INPUT   Change bill of material via batch input
CSEP_MAT_BOM_SELECT_CHANGE     API Bills of Material: Select BOM(s)
    CS_CL_P_BOM_MASS_CHANGE
    CS_CL_S_BOM_CHANGE_COMPLETE
    Check and revert back,.

  • Having trouble with downloads; cannot change downloads folder; items save to downloads folder but I cannot open them;it save all downloads as a .part file

I cannot download any attachments. I get the pop up message to save it, I save it but it saves all attachments as a .part file which cannot be opened (or it just opens in Word even when it is a music/sound file.
Also, I tried to change the folder I download to and it will not let me. I click "choose" in the downloads prefs area but it does not let me change it. the button is unresponsive.

Lion hides the Library directory, but there are instructions on this page that describe how to make it visible.
    * http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
In Snow Leopard, the Firefox profile is in User/<username>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<randomname>.default. I am assuming that the path has not changed in Lion.
Finding something in the Library used to be easy before Apple decided that Spotlight should no longer access it, so I have taken to using Easyfind instead. If the path to the profile has changed in Lion, you could still find it by searching for cookies.sqlite, but you cannot use Spotlight for that. Easyfind is much more versatile anyway.

  • Cannot change the open item management setting

When I try to switch the open item management specification on or off, a message comes up telling me that if I want to switch this function on, I must create a new account with the correct setting and use it to make a transfer posting of existing items.
Does anybody know how to do this ?

    Hi Antonio,
Guess the following thread will help you:

  • How to delete the item from Delivery?? (Handling Unit)

    Dear SDNs,
I have a scenario of HU (Handling Unit).
Now here I have a case where the complete cycle is done. But end user now wants to change/delet the item in Delivery. So I have guided them to reverse all documents and it is done.
Now delivery is in Editable Mode. Now here when I try to Delete Delivery Line Item.. It is giving Error like "Item has already been packed and therefore cannot be deleted"
Diagnosis says "It is not possible to delete packed items."
Procedure says "Unpack the item from the shipping unit before you delete it."
Now when I select Line Item and click the PACK Button to go to the screen for "Processing of Handling Units for outbound Delivery XXXXXXX", it goes to the screen but here there is not Existing HUs available to Delete/Empty... whole screen is Blank.. even no Material to be packed...
I think user have proceeded the cycle without HU assignment.
So now I want to Delete the Line Items and want to insert fresh Items again...
    Any inputs???

  • Leopard 10.5.3 - Login Items still Crash

This is the exact steps I took in the past hour. Nothing was omitted.
Installed a freshly, re-partition and totally erased Leopard 10.5 on a white Macbook.
Ran software update, downloaded and installed 10.5.3.
    Opened up Directory Utility.
Bound to AD and to my OD server.
Changed Login Options so it wouldn't auto-login my local admin.
Restarted, logged in with my AD account.
Went to System Prefences, Accounts. Selected Login Items (next to "Password"). Panel hung immediately, just like it has been for months, since 10.5. Console logs the same Assertion Failure. I still cannot alter my Login Items when bound to AD.
Again, this is a completely fresh system. Anyone with a spare computer and access to an AD domain should be able to reproduce this problem in about an hour.

Also, there is no com.apple.loginitems plist file in my ~\Library\Preferences.
On another note: Because of this problem and various others with Leopard's AD and OD and Kerberos, I would never recommend upgrading. I have spent 100+ hours trying to integrate Leopard into my network. All of my Tiger machines integrate fine.
Problem is, Apple doesn't sell any machines with Tiger installed on them. You can only buy Leopard machines, and you can't downgrade them to Tiger. Therefore, any new hires we have get Leopard machines, and they don't work right on my network. I am considering installing Windows XP on most of these new Leopard machines until Leopard's networking functions properly.
I don't think I have a very complicated or unique network (OD Xserve for OSX managed prefs that shares all files via SMB, Windows 2003 server for AD and for my PC users, Kerberos for SSO capabilities) and it all works fine on Tiger.
I'm really tired of spending hours trying to get Leopard to do the same basic things, such as figure out why Login items still crash, figure out why I get Broken Pipe errors and "Volume could not be mounted" when connecting via the Finder to SMB shares on my Xserve, why I need to use the IP address instead of the FQDN when binding to my 10.4.11 Xserve's Open Directory.. very basic level things that work fine in Tiger. I would gladly pay thousands of dollars for someone to come and make this work, but Googling my problems show up tons of "me too" and no solutions.

  • Getting rid of AdobeResourceSynchronizer (CS3) in Login Items OS 10.4.11

I'd like to know how to get rid of the Acrobat (CS3) AdobeResourceSynchronizer from Login Items on Mac OS 10.4.11. Reportedly, it replaces itself in Login Items if removed. In trying to follow the instructions from the Barnaby James blog of 12/06 (first open ye file in a text editor and change the login item key from 'true' to 'false'), I found two files (with names that differ slightly from those specified in the instructions) in Library/App Support/Adobe/Acrobat, which I presume are for Acrobat Pro and Adobe Reader (though I don't have the latter on my drive). They are:
    AcroENUDist80SelfHeal.xml
    AcroENUPro80SelfHeal.xml
I wondered if I could use TextEdit to change the code, but
something is apparently screwed up on my drive. The 'Big Bang' game was installed with Tiger.
Spotlight says 'Kind' for both adobe files is 'PBEM Game File', and when I double-clicked either the icons for the Adobe support files, I got the 'Big-Bang-4-In-A-Row' splash screen with sound effects and 'Solo', 'Network' or 'Email' options; when I tried the 'Open With' command in the context menu, I got a list of the Big Bang game apps: Big Bang Backgammon, Big Bang Chess, etc. A similar wire-crossing has happened before occasionally, for instance a Photoshop file icon will depict and open a completely different file from the named file, which has disappeared into limbo.
Adobe CS3 was installed on a clean drive following installation of Tiger and updates, all permissions repairs done incrementally. Does anybody out there have any ideas????

    >I wondered if I could use TextEdit to change the code, but something is apparently screwed up on my drive. T...when I double-clicked either the icons
Just don't double click. These files aren't designed to work that way.
Use TextEdit and open them directly - if it will do that. Be SURE to
    back up first!!
