Cannot connect to network printer: Canon MX330 series

Hello,
Not sure if this issue has been posted before, if so then please forgive me. I recently purchased my first Mac, a Macbook pro running on Mac OS X 10.6.6.
I have a network printer, a Canon MX330, at home that is connected to the family desktop computer, a PC on Windows XP.
When I connect my printer to the USB on my Macbook, it works instantly and I can print a test page. I can also go on my Desktop PC and print on that printer through the network.
The problem arises when I connect my printer to my desktop PC. The Macbook is unable to connect to the printer. However, I can browse my Desktop's shared folders from my Macbook. The printer also works locally on the Desktop as well as from the other PC's that are on the network, but not on the Macbook.
If anyone can please help, that would be really appreciated. Right now I have no choice but to copy my files to the public shared folder, then go upstairs to the Desktop, open them, and print.
Thanks!
Phil

Hi Phil,
What they have described is the correct procedure for adding a Windows shared printer to the Mac. Given that you can connect to the shared folder on the PC then this process should work but can take some time.
The first thing to ensure is that the printer on the XP PC is shared. In Printers & Faxes on XP, right-click the printer icon and select Sharing. Select 'Share this printer' and set the Share Name to a single name (spaces can impact things). OK this to close the driver properties window.
With regards to the three columns that appear, the first column is for the workgroup name. If you are using XP Professional then the name will be Workgroup. The Home version will show MSHome. This workgroup name can take a while to appear (the Mac needs to determine who is the master browser on the network) but you can help the Mac by opening System Preferences > Network and for the connection type you are using (Airport or Ethernet) select it and then select the Advanced button. With this new view you will see the WINS tab. Select this and you will see the Mac's workgroup name and the workgroup it belongs to, which will most likely be blank. Click the drop menu and the workgroup name will show. Select this name and OK the change.
Now try adding the printer again, selecting the Windows icon. The workgroup name of XP PC should show in the first column. If it does, select it and then second column will show the XP computer name. Select this and you should get prompted to enter the admin user details for XP. After entering the correct information the shared printer name will appear. Select this and then you can progress to selecting the PrintFab MX330 driver.

  • How to connect my mac book pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f?

I'm desperate to know how to connect my Mac book Pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f. This printer has an independent system, therefore, no need a PC to be on, in order to print. But this printer is a network printer. Help me please.

The Canon UFR2 v2.20 driver for Mac OS X does not list the iR2010F as a supported model. The same is so for the Canon PS driver so I therefore believe this model is PCL5e only.
What you should do is open Safari and type the IP address of the iR2010F. This will connect to the internal web page of the copier and from the provided pages you should be able to see what printer languages are supported.
If it only lists PCL then you will be able to print to this copier using the Generic PCL driver included with 10.6.
So if you open Print & Fax, click + to add and then select IP > LPD for the protocol you can then enter the IP address of the iR2010F and leave the queue name blank. For the name you can change that to iR1020F and for the Print Using, select Generic PCL Laser Printer.
One note with regards to this driver. It is defaulted to 300dpi so you will need to open the print dialog when you do print and change the resolution to 600dpi to get better print quality.

  • Can't connect to Network Printer

I just bought a laptop with Vista.  I have  wireless router connected to a wired router.  My two desktops are conneted to the wired router and the laptop is wireless to the wireless router.
My printer does not have a wireless card, so I have it plugged to one desktop, and I have the other desktop using it as a network printer.
I can't seem to get the wireless to see the printer.  I have enabled file & print sharing on all computers, and the print spooler service is started on all computers.  When I do "Add a printer" it doesn't see the printer.  I tried doing "Add a network printer" and entering the name as \\computername\printername (where computername is the computer the printer is attached to), but I alternately get these two errors:
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. The server print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler on the server or restart the server machine" or
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Makes ure that you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to network."
I have not been able to see the desktop computer at all in the network options, but I do see the wired router listed, but no computers connected to the router.
Can anyone help with this?  I am at my wit's end.                     Dan

see the tail end of my thread here, it sounds a LOT like your problems and my own are similar:

    Hello,
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2388142
    Might be the right hotfix!
I will be trying this hotfix this week. I have this problem SO bad right now. The only slight difference is that my print server is running Microsoft Storage Server
2003, and all my clients are now windows 7. The problem hits users at seemingly random times, random 5% of the company per day, and all printer pools...it made no sense at all!
I'll keep you posted as to whether the asyncronous RPC reg key helps, or if your hotfix does.
There is also something i found that works (for 48 hours straight anyways):
On vista/7 client, go to Devices and Printers and click Add Printer
Then choose Local Printer. I know your printer is shared on a print server, just stick with me here!!
Choose Create New Port and select Local Port...
When it asks you for a port name, type in the UNC ADDRESS of the printer (ie \\printserver1\HPLaser5000n).
When it asks you for a driver, point it to the right location where you downloaded a clean set of drivers matching your client OS and printer. Or press the Windows Update button.
finish adding the printer. You will notice the name of the printer doesn't have a "...on [printserver1"
anymore, BUT it will still print!!
I have done this for 4 printer pools and for the last 2 days the 1 user i set it up for has had no printing problems. May be total coincidence, but at this point i was willing to try anything. I'm not sure if this constitutes fooling windows 7 into setting
up a remote printer as a local printer, and i'm also doubting this will be deployable via GPO or script...but still, i hope it helps.

  • Windows cannot connect to the printer the local print spooler service is not running please restart the spooler or restart the m

We have 7 computers on a local network 3 of them have local printers 2 and are brand new Vista equiped. we shared the local printers on the vista machines but they are unaccessable from one vista to the other... it works from an XP to a Vista, but not from a Vista to a Vista.... go figure.... When we try to add the printers, the error message that we get is: "windows cannot connect to the printer. the local print spooler service is not running. please restart the spooler or restart the machine."
    I would appreciate any help...
    Thank you

    This worked for me.  GP
Problem : error 1075 and Local print spooler service is not running.
problem description : I have a Lexmark x4270 all in one. I installed the driver for it in my new laptop running Vista. Turns out the driver is not for Vista but XP. I uninstalled the XP driver and downloaded a Vista driver from Lexmark. When I try to run the printer software I get a message "Local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." I tried all of that. I have looked this problem up on the web and it is quite common with Vista. Many of the "solutions" say it is a problem with an incomplete removal of the incorrect printer driver and they show how to correct in the registry. I am not comfortable tinkering with the registry and thought I'd consult with you first.
I tried "everything" I could to fix the problem of getting "error 1075" fixed in my HP laptop running Vista.  HP came up with simple solution below.  The regedit part is what fixed mine.  I did not need the safe mode part.  I think Lexmark should add the solution to your knowledge base.
    ==============================
From HP:  Please perform the below given steps in safe mode to resolve the issue.
Reboot your notebook and press F8. The system will show some booting options select safe mode.
Note: Starting computer in safe mode may take some time.
Uninstall the printer using Programs and Features from the control panel of your notebook.
Uninstalling any software from Control Panel :
    1. Click on Vista (start) button
    2. Click on control panel
    3. Double click on Programs and Features
    4. Click on YOUR Lexmark Printer  and click on remove.
Download and reinstall the printer software using the below given link :
    http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:438:0:0&searchLang=en&os_group=Windows%20Vista&target=
NOTE:  Clicking the link may give an error indicating it is invalid.
Copy and paste the entire link in a new browser window.
After the installation of drivers, restart the notebook into normal mode. Now plese check with printing any document. If the still persists then perform the below given steps :
Click on Vista (Start) button, and type Regedit.exe in search bar
    Navigate to the following branch
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ Spooler
In the right-pane, double-click the DependOnService value
Delete the existing data, and then type RPCSS
    Close Regedit.exe
    Restart the computer.
    This should resolve the issue.

Have you tried restarting the printer? Reboot the iPad as well.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Got a local password/username on your Win7 ? Create the same on the 2003R2 as you seem in workgroup
    net user /add useraccountname mypassword
net localgroup users useraccountname /add  (I think it's users the name, you can validate to be sure) or
net localgroup administrators useraccountname /add in worst case.
nb, or add the user guess in the printer share security

  • "Sorry, I cannot connect the network right now" - Siri has become fairly useless for me.

I having been giving Siri a fair shake since I know it is still very new.
9 times out of 10 my Siri responds, "Sorry, I cannot connect the network right now"
I have tried disaling, and enabling in Settings
I have tried enuciating clearly, in a quiet environment.
I have tried everything I can think of, and basically just stopped using it.
    Any thoughts?

A forum search would have found dozens of threads discussing this Siri server issue the last 2 days.  Some have found that resetting the phone helps, at least temporarily:
Press both the home and sleep/wake buttons until yhe Apple logo appears.

  • Buying new all-in-one printer- canon pixma series?

    hi!
i really wanna replace my hp 5610 with a better, faster printer.
    * fax
    * duplex (feeder ofc) scanner
    * duplex printing
    * five ink cartridges (not combined)
    * network access: ethernet OR wifi. which will connect to the router; wireless or wired.
    **cheap black ink**
well, i checked out canon pixma series. the real problem is that i dont know what "mac support" mean. at my hp 5610, hp say the printer is mac cimpatible. but as i worked with windows and mac, i can honestly say the mac support is as good as nothing... just to add "mac supported" at the features.
i am a student so i will print much @ black. plus i always scan my papers so i really need duplex scaning too.
what do you say about the canon pixma mx860 model?
if you can recommend other models (*not HP!!!!*) i will love to know.
    thanks!

I would actually recommend the [PIXMA MX870|http://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/For-You/Printers/PIXMA-InkJet-Printers/MX870].
It has 5 individual tanks with a high volume black tank for text printing.
    Duplex document feeder
    Wireless or Ethernet support
Mac OS X printer and scanner driver included as part of Apple Software Update
well my hp (which *****) also have "mac support" via apple software update. the peoblem is that its features lacking and even the simplest operations like increasing brightness/contrast are missing.
i would prefer the manufacturer's software is its full featured + ofc mac supported.

I am very happy with my MX 850, a predecessor. I use it for most of my printing, except that I have a color laser printer for really big jobs. I suspect that the cost of consumables is comparable on both printers, as 5-8 ink cartridges print about the same as a laser cartridge, and cost about the same as well. Maybe the laser is a bit more expensive, when the other consumables are taken into account.
Scanning is very convenient. I also use the printer as a card reader, although the computer cannot write to them.
do you use canons software or the apple built-in? can you set a new profile with higher brightness+higher contrast?
what about the duplex feature? for scanning? works well? fast? those kind of details usually arent taking into consideration either at specs nor reviews

  • MacBook Pro cannot connect to wireless printer

I just replaced my printer with an HP Photosmart plus e all in one B210. I set it up and it connected to my network and prints fine from my PC. When I installed the software on my MacBook, it is able to find the printer, but after installation is complete it is unable to connect. I have checked the HP support page but it appears I have done everything correctly. I am assuming there is a setting or two that I need to tweak but I cannot figure it out. I have turned off firewall, and all devices are connected to the same network. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently my original post was not clear enough. The printer shows up in Print&Fax under System Preferences as idle with a green dot. I have tried with "share this printer" selected and printer sharing turned on but still does not connect. The printer works just fine with my PC connected via ethernet to a dual band Airport Extreme. I have installed/reinstalled the software several times and the printer says it has the latest firmware. I am also unable to utilize the AirPrint feature with my iPhone 4 running 4.2.2.

  • Single account on imac can see but cannot connect over network

This one is driving me crazy:
As of this morning I cannot connect to other computers in our network. Using other accounts on the same imac is no problem, but mine simply refuses.
I can see the rest of the network, connect to the internet, print, etc., but if I try to actually connect to another machine I get the error that it cannot find the original item (the error is in Dutch so I cannot give the litteral version)
Network, firewall and sharing settings seem to be the same as the other, working, accounts as far as I can tell.

OK, we found the problem. my permissions were screwed up...

  • Cannot connect to wifi printer

I have a new macbook pro and am trying to set it up to print to a shared canon ip1000 connected to an xp pc . I have a netgear router.
I can access the printer and set it as the default printer on the MBP. When I send a job to the print queue, the job shows as "Printing" for about 5 minutes, then disappears. Nothing comes out on the printer.
I think I have the network set up properly as the MBP can read and write files to shared directories on the xp pc and vice versa. (I can print to the printer over the network using an xp laptop.)
If I enter smbtree in an X11 terminal, I can see the printer as attached to the xp pc.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Hello Sylvb369,
It sounds like you have an AirPrint capable printer, but are unable to print from it. I want to recommend starting at step 2 of this troubleshooting assistant:
    AirPrint setup and troubleshooting
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/airprint/#section_2
    Connecting to your printer
Verify Wi-Fi is enabled and that you are connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your printer.
Open an application that supports AirPrint, including Safari, Mail, and Photos. Apps from the App Store may require an update to use AirPrint.
Choose the content you want to print and tap the appropriate icon to display the option to Print.
Select your printer and tap Print.
If you are unable to print, the next section can assist with setting up your printer and troubleshooting basic issues.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling
