I am having problems interacting with Microsoft Office programs since the last update:cannot create a pdf through the 'print' menu in exel and both Word and Exel docs sent in Mac Mail end up being received as .dat files.
Both these situations have cropped up on my MacBook Pro since the last update.
    Thanks for your help.
    Cheers
    Bob

The 'Winmail.dat' problem has been extensively covered in these forums, I would search for that (a Google search works well) and unfortunately I have not seen the pdf print problem before, but assuming the software is current and functions normally (other than the pdf print problem) I have no suggestion other than the obvious (but time consuming) re-installation of Office.

For some reason, when my Macbook Pro starts up now, all of the MS Office applications open.  This was not happening when I first purchased the laptop, and I never added these apps to the startup menu.  How do I remove these apps from startup?

By default Mac apps do not close when you close the window you were working in. Unlike in Windows when you click the top right X icon in any program is closes the window and the program shuts down. On Mac OS X clicking the X in the top left hand corner only closes that windows and leave the program running in the background. If they are left open and you reboot they will restart with the system and load a window for them.

  • Cannot Load Backup-database cmdlet in powershell v 3.0

I am trying to work around with writing powershell script to backup sql server 2008 R2 database but the example i have searched they
require to add backup-sqldatabase cmdlet, but i am unable to see neither SQLPS or backup-sqldatabase cmdlets, I have recently ugraded to powershell v3 and i am running windows server2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2.
Also there is a confusion  windows
server 2008R2 is a virtual server i am using, but i downloaded powershell on my local desktop and for some reason it loads SQLps and backup-sqldatabase cmdlets
There is no database installed on my local machine but as soon as i type backup-sqldatabase i get to see the cmdlet on screen

See the top part of this post

  • Backup database without the data

    i have several questions.
i have a typical database with many schema, can the objects, such as view, sequence function, etc, be backup by itself?
secondly, can objects such as table be backup with schema only and no data with it?
third, what is the way to create a minimal backup to backup the existing database, the control files, index defination, pfiles, oracle binary, and etc, with no data in the table of the backup.
yes. i basically like to backup and recreate the objects inside of the schema without any data in the table, because the table has way more data than a tape to handle and i can't get new disk this year.
    thanks.

To create a non-data backup of your schemas, you will need to utilize exp or expdp. Check expdp or exp.
Sounds like you want a text backup of the controlfile, therefore you can issue the following:
SQL> alter database backup controlfile to trace; And to create a backup of a pfile, you can simply copy the file.

  • How do I change the name of my Mac partition in the startup menu?

    Hi,
So when I transferred my data to my new hard drive, I originally called my hard drive "changetitle" so I wouldn't confuse it with my other drive also named Macintosh HD.
Now that I have my new drive installed, I changed the name to "Macintosh HD" but when I hold Option to use bootcamp on startup, I notice that my HFS+ partition still has the name "changetitle".
Any way to change it? Thanks!

System Preferences->Sharing sets the network name of the computer. The issue here is the name of the startup volume as seen in Startup manager (the option key start up mode).
That should be changeable from the Finder: highlight the name of the volume, press return, & type in the new name. Is this what was done?

  • Boot from CD-Rom option no longer available when I press F9 on the Startup Menu

After bringing up the options menu after pressing the Esc Key, when I press F9 there is no longer an option to boot from the CD-ROM showing in the list.
Also when I use the System Recovery option and select the option to Boot the Laptop using the Internal CD-ROM, after the Laptop has restarted a message appears basically saying the selected boot option is not available and I have no idea what the problem is.

    Hi @John-Davis ,
I saw your post regarding the option to boot from CD no longer being an option in your BIOS. I will be happy to help. Let's start with testing the DVD/CD ROM or optical drive. This HP document Testing for Hardware Failures will show you how to access the UEFI tools that come as part of your initial setup. Under Components Tests there will be a one for the Optical Drive. Run that to see if the optical drive has failed.

  • Cannot connect to database using the Upgrade Simulation Tool

I have installed the Upgrade Simulation Tool on my system and when I try to run the tool my system works in the for awhile in the background and creates the _Simulation mdf and ldf files and a .bck file.  After 3 or 4 minutes it gives me an error "Cannot connect to the database".
It looks to me like it is connecting to the database because it is creating the files in the SQL Data folder.  I have tried to run it on several databases and get the same results.
    Thank you, Jeff

    Hi,
You may not have the ability to upgrade it directly.
    He does have the ability.
When downloading Pl 42, it is cleary marked as "Upgrader", which means it can be used for upgrade (in this case simulation) from a lower version than 2007A
Patchlevel which are marked as "patch" are suitable only for updating the PL within the very same version of SAP Business One.
This tool should run under 2007 system I believe.
The Upgrade Simulation tool was designed in orderto test an upgrade, therefore it can run at a machine where 2005 version is installed. Technically speaking it creates a second SBO-common, which can be used only with the special designed (read only) client of the tool.
Jeff, you should check access rights of your SQL Data folder.Maybe grant user "Everyone" modifying rights to that folder. In addition you could try to detach a DB and move the related *.mdf and *.ldf to another folder where no access denied rights were applied.
If using MSSQL 2005 create via ODBC a Native Client connection to the Server, although you might just working locally only.
    Regards
    Mario

  • How do I get to the startup menu. I have 6 apps start when I power on that I want to turn off.

I want to turn off some of the apps when my system starts up. There are about 6 apps, programs, that start and it takes too long for the mac to get going.

Two possibilities: Open System Preferences, select Users & Groups, and right above your user picture you'll see buttons for Password and Login Items. Select Login Items. In the window pane you'll see a list of items that are selected for startup at login. Select an item you don't want and click on the minus button at the bottom of the pane.
If any (or all) of the programs that are starting up don't appear in this list it means that these programs were running when you shut the computer down. In Lion, by defaul, any program running when the computer is shut down will automatically restart. There's a dialog box that appears when you select logout or restart which allows you to cancel this for that logout only. In other words, you much click the checkmark each time you logout/quit. I don't shutdown often and have an SSD so this behavior doesn't annoy me much, except at work where i don't have an SSD and I do shut down more often.

  • Lightroom 5 CC just upgraded itself unexpectedly since then the since then the startup menu where you chose the catalogue is not appearing

Since Lightroom 5 upgraded unexpectedly today the start-up menu where you choose which catalogue to load is not appearing at start-up and Lightroom is loading into the last catalogue used, I have a number of catalogues so I need to be able to find them quickly the start-up menu did that.  How do I get that back?

That is certainly true once lightroom is loading. My concern is before lightroom loads that the choice of catalogue is no longer presenting itself. Previously a window would appear before lightroom opened offering a choice of all the catalogues I use. Without this window Lightroom is loading the last catalogue used (since the upgrade) which will in all likelihood be the wrong one.

    Hi,
Create the Second instance thro' Database Configuration Assistant, and Replace with Back up files. Now you can run two instances at parallel.
