  • "There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup"

I currently have an iPad 2, and my husband has an iPod Touch (not sure of the generation - its about a year old). As of tomorrow, we'll both have iPhone 4S's.    We both use my iTuned account for purchasing apps and music. I've finally got iOS 5 up and running on my iPad, with iCloud linked to my iTunes account.  I've got my husband's iPod Touch updated with iOS 5. I set it up with his old iTunes account, and put my iTunes account into the 'Store' part of the settings, as the 'Apple IDs and iCloud' document suggested to do. But when I try to set his iPod Touch to backup to iCloud, I get the following error: "iCloud Backup Failed. There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup."
Any suggestions?  Am I misunderstanding how I'm supposed to be doing this?  It's not a huge deal with the iPod Touch, but I want to get this figured out before tomorrow, so that I can set it up so that my iPad and iPhone both sync to one iCloud account, and his iPod Touch and iPhone sync to a different one.

@uzagaku yes this works, and that's the only way to re-enable iCloud backup actually. No need to disable encryption, that's only for further local backups. But thanks for pointing out to that iCloud setting in iCloud .. I should have looked there immediately, obviously. As soon as it's activated there, the setting syncs on iOS. Remains that enabling iCloud backup from iOS should of course be possible, so there's still a huge bug there.

Keep getting this error when trying to backup iphone 5 to icloud: "There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup."

It looks like you need to install iOS 6.0.1 that was released yesterday.  You can find more information here: http://lighthousetechnologies.com/blog/software-testing-iphone-5-bug-upgrade

  • Re: There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup

Why do repeatedly get this message when trying to turn on iCloud Backup on my iPad: There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup?

You really do have to sync after enabling iCloud on the device in iTunes. I just clicked Apply after enabling iCloud and it gave the error in the thread title. Went back to my PC, disabled it, synced, enabled it, synced, then synced to iCloud from the device and it worked a treat.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.

I cannot activate my iCloud backup of my 4S iPhone, even though I have definitely deactivated Airplane mode, and am connected to Wi-Fi.  I also have a correct Apple/iCloud ID and password.
Should I delete my iCloud account and set up a new one??
Please give me some assistance with this problem!

To unfreeze it, reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.
To troubleshoot your problem with backing up to iCloud, this may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your iPad that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • There was a problem enabling icloud backup (settings crashes)

I have an iPhone 4S with IOS 7.1.2 and i've been able to backup my phone prior to updating to IOS8.
After installing IOS 8 my phone became really slow and unusable and I went back to iTunes and did a full restore.
I've been able to get everything working again except the iCloud backup.
It was enabled after a fresh install but never actually backed anything up:
"there was a problem with icloud backup" and a daily backup is never performed.
    The phone is fully charged
    Connected to wifi
Whenever I try to backup manually it also fails.
I tried to disable icloud backup and enable it again but that didn't work either as now SETTINGS crashes everytime I enable the icloud backup setting.
    any suggestions?

Make sure to change your backup selection in iTunes to icloud...you can't backup your phone to icloud unless iTunes is set to icloud.

  • I just enable icloud backup for my contacts and now my contacts are gone. I sthis just another new operating software problem.

I udated to the new operating system about one week ago. Not too many problems at first.
Yesterday, for no reason, I lost all of my bookmarks in Safari. Now it won't even let me do book marks at all.
With this in mind, I thought I should probably enable Icloud to backup my Contacts.  Big mistake ......Now every thing that was in my contacts is gone.
I can't tell you how upset I am.  I hope there is a fix for this and soon.

You can always resync the Contacts, Notes, and Messages by signing into those services with the same AppleID once you have the new phone set up.

  • Cannot find ICloud backup

I accidentally erased one of my notes on my iphone 4S. The Icloud backup says that one was done at 1:30 am but when I go into Icloud the last notes was 17 days ago. What happend to the back up from 1:30 AM this morning.

    That depends.
Firstly, it won't help if the notes aren't in the back up, you would need to be sure they are.
Secondly, it's not clear that notes are included in back ups, some seem to think that the data sets for contacts, calendars etc are not backed up, there is however evidence to suggest that some (if not all) are. The uncertainty is brought about because restoring any data that is used by iCloud is likely to immediately erased again because the timestamp on the data set in iCloud is newer than that in the back up.
I have seen users be able to restore contacts by following the method below, whether you can modify this procedure to work for notes I wouldn't know.
If you do decide to try, perhaps you could let us know the outcome.
Ensure the device is connected to your local network.
Start the restore from iCloud back up.
Allow the devices settings to restore (watch for the confirmation of completion).
As the apps begin to restore pull the connection to your router WAN port (the one that goes to the telephone point).
Wait for the time out confirmation.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn off contact syncing (keep contacts when prompted).
Reconnect the router to the internet and let the restore process complete.
Delete any iCloud contacts from iCloud.com on a computer.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn on contact syncing (merge contacts when prompted).

  • Cannot enable icloud photo's,?

i need to enable iCloud photo's to enable me to copy back to my computer after computer crash.

Okay, it appears that the photos seen in Photos aren't tied to iCloud photo library.  It finally updated after an hour.

  • HT201318 cannot delete icloud backup

So I wanted to get rid of the ridiculous size of the a 5GB backup on my iPhone because I didn't want to take 5 hours to restore my new iPhone.  No matter where I go into it from, I cannot delete the photos or even the entire backup because it says it is in use.
Anyone have any idea on how to delete this mess from iCloud and start over with a fresh backup?  Or at least get rid of the 4.8GB of photos and videos that have already been offloaded to my MBP?

I knew if I waited this would not be an issue, however, the point was to backup to a new profile so that I could move to my iPhone 5 instead of having to wait for it to download 5GB of photos, when I had deleted them from the old phone and then backed up again, but it wasn't respecting the deletion of data, even after 3 backups.

  • Cannot Access iCloud backup from April 2013

Hoping someone can help figure this out.  My daughters i4 was stolen but the day before, April 30th, there was an automatic backup on icloud created.  When I went to restore to that backup on her new phone there was nothing listed older than May 12 or something like that.  The family shares an Apple ID for the cloud so that calendars sync.  All the other members show their backups but not before mid-May.  How do I access those older backups?

You don't.  You only get, I think, 3 backups, and since backups are usually done daily, the April ones are long gone.
As for your daughter's situation, since she hasn't had any newer backups (missing phone), I'm not sure - many users have reported having only one recent backup when looking for them.
