Cannot encrypt hp 8 1401

I have tried a couple of times to encrypt my 8. First time I left it overnight but it just stayed on the android image screen (circular activity monitor at the bottom of the screen seemed to remain static - not sure if that is what is supposed to happen).
So I then did a complete reset and tried it again before installing anything. Again - the same problem.
Need this as it is corp mandated. Help!
Android version 4.2.2
Kernel 3.3.0

Hi @Nealdc  , welcome to the HP Forums. I understand you are unable to use Android's native option to Encrypt your HP 8 - 1401, even after a factory reset.
If the option is available, and it is simply not working, can you verify if you had it connected to your charger? Can you make sure your MicroSD card slot does not have a card inserted?
I am not sure if you can encrypt from Safe Mode, but it might quicker than identifying and force stopping all non-essential Apps. Try entering Safe Mode by holding down the power button until the pop up appears. Do not select, but hold down on the option to power down, until a 2nd pop up appears, prompting you to restart in Safe Mode.
From Safe Mode, see if you can begin the encryption process.
I have found a post elsewhere which discusses what this user tried, and finally succeeded with: Android Encryption Problems
If you find a process that works, please let me know

  • Cannot encrypt Password in MDSS file...

    Hi All,
Can in  mdss.ini file we encrypt the password for repository with user id other than Admin?
issue is i change the password in console for Admin and then try to login datamanager with Admin user id ,but it fails saying Invalid login credentials..
So I have to use other user id in mdss file (which has Admin role assigned to it) and restart mdss , sot that mdss can see the repository and start polling  the files in ready folder..
    This is not working..
    Any inputs ..
    Cheers!!
    Vikrant M Kelkar

    Hi Vikrant,
Once you have changed a Users Password in MDM Console.
You just need to restart your MDSS and enter in the new Userid and  pwd under that particulat repository. and Save it.
This should take up the new login for auto syndication.

The packager in the Reference Implementation uses the MediaEncrypterFactory class to determine the file type and encrypt the content accordingly.  This factory looks at the contents of the file to determine the file type, not just the file extension.  Based on the error message you see in the log, it appears that the factory determined that the file looks like an FLV despite the .f4v extension, and the file may contain a video codec that is not supported in FLV.

  • Cannot encrypt microSD card

I need to have encryption turned on on my phone because of my companies Exchange account policy. I did that without a problem. Now I just got an SD card and I would like to use it but the phone odes not accept it because it needs to be also encrypted. Unfortunately, when I follow the instruction on the phoe, the device restarts but never encrypts the card, getting the same "card needs to be encrypted" message after reboot. Any ideas?

Hi, I have the same need for encryption of my Z2, but i haven't tried so I'm not sure if i can encrypt my SD card. My question is can I later decrypt it without factory reset which would erase all my data and setttings? If there's a possiblity, I would encrypt the phone to use my company exchange ativesync account.
    Could anybody help?
    Hi,
No you can't remove encryption without performing a factory reset of the phone. The factory reset will result in your not being able to access any data on the SD card if this is also encrypted - you will have to reformat the SD card in this case. This is unlike the Samsung Galaxy series where you can decrypt an encrypted device (not sure about the SD card though!)
If you are considering encryption please be aware of the issue I posted  a few days ago wrt the Movies application - the phone will hang and need a reboot if you allow the screen to lock for any signifcant period with the Movies app running. Also be aware that the backup function included with PC companion does not work with encryption. You can however copy files using explorer to your PC.
Finally factory resetting  (necessary to remove encryption) appears to invalidate any movies that you have previously downloaded due to DRM. You will have to download them again. Backing them up using Windows Explorer does not appear to work

  • How can I tell if my Time Machine backups are encrypted?

Hi - I would really appreciate it if someone could help me find out if my Time Machine backps are actually encrypted.
I know that there is an 'encryption' option when choosing a disc for Time Machine to backup to, but the problem is I cannot remember whether or not I actually ticked it (as it was a couple of years ago).
Other info that might be helpful:
    - The disk I use Time Machine to backup to is actually a Apple Time Capsule
    - I do have FileVault2 enabled on my mac
    - I have never encrypted the Time Capsule disc itself (via Disk Utility or anything similar)
    - One possible clue might be: When I go into Time Machine preferences, and click on 'Select Disk...' (as if to choose another disk to back up to), and select the disc that Time Machine currently backs up to (i.e. the Time Capsule disc), it does show an 'Encrypt backups' checkbox at the bottom of the window... however this checkbox is unchecked and also greyed out.
    Thanks in advance

    - Because I originally created this Time Machine Backup (to the Time Capsule) back in my 'OS X Lion' days,
I wondered; you posted in the Mountain Lion forum, but your profile still says Lion.
that means that my backups now (and moving forward) will continue to be un-encrypted
Correct (as of now, anyway).  You cannot encrypt existing network backups.  I doubt that will be available in the future, and would take forever.
    - The only way to encyrpt my backups now, moving forward, is to remove this Time Capsule disc (from Time Machine Preferences), and start all over again ensuring that I check the checkbox next to 'Encrypt Backup' when selecting the Time Capsule's disc to backup to.
Well, in theory it's possible, but would take forever, squared.
You could archive the TC's contents to a USB drive connected to it, per #Q6 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule).
Then delete the original, start a backup with encryption, and as soon as the encrypted sparse bundle is created, cancel the backup.
Mount the sparse bundle, open the disk image, and delete the Backups.backupdb folder inside it.
Connect the USB drive to your Mac, mount that sparse bundle, open its disk image, and copy the Backups.backupdb folder to the one on the TC.
Depending on how large the sparse bundle is, that could easily take a couple of days, at least, even connected via Ethernet.
Just for testing one day, I encrypted a very small set of existing test backups on a F/W 800 drive - 6 dated backups using a whole 12 GB.  Took an hour.
An alternative would be, just do the "archive" and keep the USB drive "on the shelf" for a while.  You can always connect it to your Mac and access those backups via the Browse Other Backup Disks option.
Trying to keep a couple of years worth of backups usually isn't a good idea.  It's a very complex structure, so the odds of damage increase, it takes much longer to populate the TM browser, and it works slower and slower, and if you didn't need something for 6 months, are you really going to need it in 2 years?

  • Creating Encrypted Time Machine Back Ups to a Network Hard Drive

Hello all, I can't seem to create an encrypted Time Machine back up on a network hard drive.  Can this be done?  And if not, why not?  It seems that Macs have all the necessary functionality already available in Mac OS. Time Machine can create encrypted backups with multiple computers so what's the difference if it is to a network backup drive, honestly?  Any suggestions?
My Set up:  Three Macs, Airport Extreme Base Station, Seagate 3 TB HD (with separate partitions for each computer's backups).  2 of the Macs use ethernet to connect to the network and one uses wireless regularly.  Basically, I'm trying to encrypt my family's backup drive and I don't know how or why I can't.
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Appleguy514

First, you need to know that backing-up that way is unreliable and not supported by Apple.   See:  Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk.
Second, no, you cannot encrypt a network backup on Lion or earlier.  Only Mountain Lion.

  • BitLocker Encryption ToGo; Decryption Issue.

I currently have a USB drive that has been partially encrypted with BitLocker Encryption, but will not allow me to unlock it. I have looked for many resources on solving this issue, but have decided to post my details.
I am running Windows 7 Enterprise. I have the Password and I have a FIPS-140-2 complaint Recovery Key. All of my USB drives have the FAT32 file system. I do not have a TPM or Smart Card, but i do have the 256 bit FVE key. I have not tried unlocking on another
    computer with BitLocker Encryption.
First of all i successfully encrypted one USB drive with no issues and stored the key on another USB drive. Next I encrypted a hard disk drive and stored the key on the same USB drive. Next i begun encrypted the USB drive that had the keys stored on it,
but realized i had to have had encrypt another drive first so I stopped the encryption at about 4%, by closing BitLocker. I realize this is where i must have gone wrong, because i stopped the encryption algorithm as it was already started. BitLocker took awhile
to close so i assumed it reversed encrypted what it had already encrypted. I then encrypted the other drive and stored the key on the USB drive with the keys on it. According to a BitLocker policy the keys encrypt each other and become chained together, but
this may not be relevant to the issue. I resumed the encryption process of the partly encrypted USB drive and stored the key on an entirely separate and not yet encrypted USB drive and this seemed to complete with no issues. Then i encrypt the final USB drive
and stored the key on a non encrypted hard disk.
Now the problem I am having is when I attempt to unlock the USB drive with the keys on it. The drive unlocks, but then unmounts itself and asks for the password again and this ends up being an endless loop. I decide to decrypt all drives in the order i encrypted
them and there appears to be no issue except for with the USB drive with most of the keys on it. I am unable to unlock and decrypt the USB with the keys on it so i skip this drive in the process and I am able to fully decrypt the rest of the drives using the
keys stored on the "broken" encrypted drive regardless of skipping decrypting it. If I attempt to decrypt or unlock the USB drive with the keys on it I can not, so I tried rebooting. Now when I attempt to unlock the drive using the password through
the BitLocker Encryption Manager the manager seems to freeze and goes into a non responsive mode and I am unable to close it, even after safely removing the USB drive.
I have tried a few different methods to solve this issue, but fear that without manually decrypting every single bit exactly how they were encrypted the data may be lost.
I use an elevated command prompt to use the standard "manage-bde d: -unlock -pw" and then enter the password, but this seems to only unlock the drive momentarily before it unmounts itself.
I have also tried using "manage-bde d: -unlock -recoverykey '[recoverykey/path].bek'", but this shows the same behavior.
I have also tried using "repair-bde d: e: -recoverykey '[recoverykey/path].bek'" and the command prompt says "Error: Cannot open 'D:'. Check that it is not currently in use. To continue even when the volume is in use, add the -Force option.".
Not using the "-Force" parameter allows me to access the drive as if it isn't locked, but only lets me see the "COV 0000. ER" and other BitLocker ToGo autorun files, while not letting me modify or copy the "COV 0000. ER" file.
I am able to view the "COV 0000. ER" file with a hex editor, but do not want to have to screen capture every screen worth of characters to attempt to manually decrypt the entire two gigabytes of information, while still not knowing exactly what timestep
the encryption algorithm actually stopped at.
If I use "repair-bde d: e: -recoverykey '[recoverykey/path].bek'" again or use the "repair-bde d: e: -recoverykey '[recoverykey/path].bek' -force" the drive seems to respond and starts scanning for BitLocker metadata, and boot sectors.
I am then prompted "LOG INFO: 0x00000027", "Valid metadata at offset 579055616 found at scan level 1.", "LOG INFO: 0x00000028 Successfully created repair context. Beginning decryption". The "d:" USB drive is approximately
two gigabytes, while the "e:" is approximately eight gigabytes. This then does from 1% to 99% without any issues. As the decryption process hits 99%, I am prompted with a popup "repair-bde.exe - Wrong Volume", "The wrong volume is
in the drive. Please insert volume into drive \Device\Harddisk2\DR8", "Cancel: Try Again: Continue" and the encrypted USB unmounts itself again and asks for the password through the BitLocker Drive Encryption Manager. No matter which of the
three choices I select the command prompt then says "LOG ERROR: 0xc0000035 Failed to read sector at offset 2000010000. <0x00000002>" and repeats untill it hits "2015160832" and then says "Decrypting: 100% Complete. Finished decryption.
ACTION REQUIRED: Run 'chkdsk D: /f' before viewing decrypted data. Now I still have the USB drive with the keys on it, but it remains locked, but now the eight gigabyte USB drive I used as "e:" is seen as a "RAW" filesystem under "Disk
Management", but "FAT32" under "My Computer". If i try to open "e:" I am prompted to format the drive before using it. If I use "RUN" to attempt to check the disk for errors in "read-only mode" the drive
is detected as if it was the "NTFS" file format, but does not seem to have any errors.
If I choose to format the USB drive "e:" I am able to use it, but it appears blank. Using third party recovery software I am able to retrieve some of the data from the partition, which was on "d:", but it appears to be partly decrypted
still or possibly fragmented. I realize this step isn't because of BitLocker and may be due to the software used to retrieve the information.
I am able to repeat this temporarily unlocking of "d:" and attempting to recover process over and over, while still getting the same result.
Another interesting note is, when I use "manage-bde -status", when the drive is locked I can see that the encrypted drive "d:" is still protected with a password and external key. If I use "repair-bde d: e: -recoverykey '[recoverykey/path].bek"
to temporally unlock the drive and then use "manage-bde -status" the drive "d:" reads the status as "Size: 1.88 GB, BitLocker Version: None, Conversion Status: Fully Decrypted, Percentage Encrypted: 0%, ERROR: An error occurred <code
    0x80070057>:, The parameter is incorrect.".
Also when the USB drive is temporally unlocked using "repair-bde d: e: -recoverykey '[recoverykey/path].bek" and I use "manage-bde d: -off" I am prompted "ERROR: An error occurred <code 0x80310008>: BitLocker Drive Encryption
is not enabled on this drive. Turn on BitLocker.". If I use "manage-bde d: -on" the USB drive is detected by BitLocker as having no name, as expected, but also "ERROR: An error occurred <code 0x8031002e>: BitLocker Drive Encryption
cannot encrypt the specified drive because an encryption key is not available. Add a key protector to encrypt this drive." If I use "manage-bde d: -on -recoverykey '[recoverykey/path].bek'" then BitLocker detects the drive, but prompts "Key
Protectors Added: ERROR: An error occurred <code 0x8031002d>: The drive encryption algorithm and key cannot be set on a previously encrypted drive. To encrypt this drive with BitLocker Drive Encryption, remove the previous encryption and then turn on
    BitLocker."
If I use "manage-bde d: -protectors -disable" I am prompted "ERROR: An error occurred <code 0x8031002d>: The drive encryption algorithm and key cannot be set on a previously encrypted drive. To encrypt this drive with BitLocker Drive
Encryption, remove the previous encryption and then turn on BitLocker.", but if I use "manage-bde d: -protectors -enable" I am prompted "ERROR: An error occurred <code 0x80310001>: This drive is not encrypted.".
A review of my issue is that I have a BitLocker Encrypted USB Drive, which will not allow me to unlock it no matter how i attempt to do it. I end up with the USB drive automatically unmounting itself when I try to unlock it and this will not allow me to
    decrypt it.
Thank You in advance for taking the time and consideration to fully understand and read my post. I would have went to the Microsoft professional support hotline, but it would have cost about $250.00 for me to attempt to explain this very large amount of
text that I had to proof read and edit.
I believe I have stated all the information that is relevant to the issue I am having and I would appreciate any help that would help me resolve my problem decrypting the information, without the need to manually decrypt every single bit or using an at least
    128 D-Bit quantum computer, "Qumputer".

    Hi,
Did you remember clear which one store in which one? It's so complex on your description.
Have you tried to recover the drive which the most key stored in it by non encrypted hard disk that stored in the USB drive key?
If it still failed, i would like to suggest you contact the professional data recovery center for help.
Note: It's not recommend you use third party software to recover. Since your data might lost because of some fault.

Sorry i tried to explain my situation as thoroughly as possible without having to take screen captures of each step of the process.
I have written down what keys were stored where, so there shouldn't be any chance of mixing up the keys. I have also attempted to recover using a different key. Possibly using a different key causes the drive to attempt to decrypt with the wrong algorithm
and actually encrypting the data even more, but this doesn't seem to be the case because it just fails and goes back into the state it was in.
Also how would one get a hold of the professional data recovery team. Them being "professionals" i would assume their services are not free, but i may be mistaken.
Also I will not attempt to use "third party software" again, but I was just getting desperate and that is why I tried it on the partition of the backup, which appears to be blank anyways. This isn't relevant to the issue at hand though.
I know encryption isn't 100% non reversible no matter how large of the keys and algorithms are, so there should always be a way to decrypt.

I have also currently used Time Machine on the external hard drive, along with saving other data. Hence, I am not sure if partitioning is going to delete any of this (a video I watched mentioned that using the + button when creating partitions retains current data). Backing up the external hard drive is out of the option since it is the back up to my Mac.
You can't encrypt a single file. I'm not sure what you did to try. You can make an encrypted disk image which begins with a folder, if desired. Or, you can just create a blank, encrypted disk image, then move your desired files into that.
While you could partition off the free space without erasing the disk, you cannot encrypt it because you need a GUID Partition table which requires you to repartition the entire drive, not just the free space.

  • Advanced Security -TDE - Encrypted Tablespace Question

In discussions regarding the move of existing objects from a non-encrypted tablespace to a TDE tablespace, all relevant text, e.g. [TDE Best Practices|http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/security/database-security/pdf/twp_transparent-data-encryption_bestpractices.pdf], states that the objects should be exported from the non-encrypted tablespace and then imported into the encrypted tablespace. After which the old tablespace should be dropped, wiped, etc.
I'm just wondering if there is a reason that we couldn't use an ALTER TABLE..MOVE operation instead. If not, specifically, why not?

    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/network.112/e10746/asotrans.htm
" You cannot encrypt an existing tablespace. However, you can import data into an encrypted tablespace using the Oracle Data Pump utility. You can also use SQL commands like CREATE TABLE...AS SELECT...or ALTER TABLE...MOVE... to move data into an encrypted tablespace. The CREATE TABLE...AS SELECT... command enables you to create a table from an existing table. The ALTER TABLE...MOVE... command enables you to move a table into the encrypted tablespace.
So you can do Alter table move too.

  • Powerful swf encryption tools

Hey guys, I have just developed a flash encryption and analyze tool.
    My product page is here:
    http://www.orandea.com/product
We provide free trails, so if you have some swf files need to be encrypted, take a look at this. Thank you ~~
    Some awesome features:
    Command line and Gui tools
We provide both command line and gui tools.
    For large projects, which might be built and released with continous integration tools or scripts, command line tools wil be easily integrated into your existing process, and providing a transparent encryption feature;
For small projects, which might be only one swf file and built with IDE commands, GUI tools will provide a friendly interface to encrypt and analyze your swf files.
    Multi file obfuscating
Some large projects consist of several seperate swf files, which reference classes in each other file.
A lot of swf encryptors will break the references and make the project not work.
Swfspy™ will automatically resolve the references and avoid renaming such symbols
    Customizable
Some times, your project is very complicated that our tools cannot encrypt your project properly.
You can easly configure Swfspy™ to avoid injecting code, renaming some packages, classes or methods.
We provide command line options, gui options and flash as3 metadata options to flexably control the behaviour of Swfspy™.
    Some analysis features
We provide both command line tools and gui tools to analyze swf files:
    For command line tools, we provide the "-s" option, which means "interactive shell";
For gui tools, we provide the analysis panel.

Ok, it's me again, we have just release the new version 1.6.0 with some new features:
    getDefinitionByName and PushString detection
Nowadays, more and more application use reflection features to optimize the architecture. Swfspy™ now support automatically detect invocation of the getDefinitionByName as well as the PushString instrument.
    Save and Load Configuration
We added a save-and-load feature of obfuscating options, that will ease your encryption.

  • Encrypting email?

I have S/MIME working fine for encrypted/signed email messages sent from my imac (10.8) to my iphone 5 (latest IOS).
    No problem.
I have GPG Tools on my imac.
I have a free comodo email cert (now on my imac and my iphone (both keys)).
However, I can't send S/MIME encrypted/signed emails from my iphone to my imac.
    Not sure why.
When I open a new email form on the iphone, it says Encrypted at the top.
As soon as I choose a To email address (even my own, the one tied to the cert), it changes to Not Encrypted.
    Does anybody have any clues?
    Comodo does not.
    However, maybe this is relevant:
On the iphone, in the Profile area, under Settings>General, for the comodo cert for my email account, it says NOT TRUSTED.
It was installed 1/1/2014, and it is definitely comodo's cert.
Again, I have no trouble decrypting email, but cannot encrypt email on the iphone.
    Thanks.

Is there anywhere else that explains how to encrypt mail

  • IPhone 6+ refuses to send s/mime encrypted e-mails

    Hi,
i am experimenting with s/mime encryption of e-Mails on the iPhone 6+ ios 8.1 and got as far as being able to send signed e-Mails, but not encrypted e-Mails from the iPhone.
Encrpytion fails with the message "Verschlüsseln nicht möglich" (encryption not possible) in the e-mail header without telling me why this is not possible.
    Here is what i did:
-in addition to my existing e-Mail accounts i created an iCloud e-Mail account.
-for all accounts i got myself free Class 1- certificates from StartSSL.com.
-i added the certificates to my mac osx 10.6.8 and os x 10.9.5 keychains
-next i downloaded the iPhone configuration app v 3.5 (289) from Apple to my desktop mac running os x 10.6.8.
-i noticed that my keychain app shows the iPhone Configuration Utility certificate in red as not being trustworthy - i verified that i downloaded the latest version from Apple (support.apple.com/kb/DL1465) - i ignored the warning
-i connected my iPhone 6+ via usb cable to my mac and installed the certificates on the iPhone - i can see new Profiles with a green tick on the iPhone.
-i turned s/mime on (+default signing +default encryption) in my e-Mail account settings on the iPhone.
using Mail (os x 10.6.8 + 10.9.5) on my desktop macs i am able to send signed+encrypted e-Mails between my accounts.
I am also able to read the encrypted e-Mail on my iPhone on the non-iCloud accounts (i see the blue tick + blue lock). Trying to reply from the iPhone with an encrypted message results in the error described above - cannot encrypt.
Sending a signed+encrypted e-Mail to my iCloud account from one of my desktop macs makes it disappear in Nirwana - it is nowhere to be found. I also do not receive any returned message about any failure - i tried to send from securesmtp.t-online.de and smtp.gmail.com + another smtp server from Belgium - same result.
i turned iCloud keychain sync from off to on, thinking it might have something to do with the problem - same result.
    thanks for any tips
    Peter

i finally figured out the problem:
i thought that the public key would get installed automatically when receiving a signed e-Mail as happens with Mail on the desktop.
This is not the case. On the iPhone I have to click on the signature or lock of the received e-Mail that contains a public key. Then i need to open the received certificate and press the install button. That done, the public key is on my iPhone and i can return encrypted e-Mails.
This also means that the iPhone Configuration utility is still working for iPhone 6+ running ios 8.1 and that the information from Apple support, that i need to use the new Apple Configurator utility is wrong.
