Cannot get Satellite L675D to complete restore

I have been having problems for about 6 weeks with what seemed like a problem of something stepping on something else in memory. I could never find anything in the event log so my assumption has been that the laptop locks before the error can be written to the event log. I finally gave up and tried restoring to the out-of-box state.
The restore seems to start off okay, but it has been sitting for the past 5 hours on a screen that says "Now Rating System Performance". Plus every now and then I hear a clicking sound like a hard drive. It's not real loud, but loud enough to be distinctly heard. This occurs about every 30 seconds or so.
Any ideas what I have here? I am starting to think it is a bad drive (which was replaced several months ago under warranty).

Just a suggestion that I found on another thread regarding the same problem; when the recover process seems stuck on "Now Rating System Performance", a problem with an aspect of the installation is causing this process to repeat over and over again. In my case (and following the instructions from a helpful contributor to this forum - you're great by the way!) I clicked on the start menu button on my latop, which showed a couple of processes on my task bar that were having trouble.  Once I closed these processes/windows, the "Now Rating System Performance" was able to complete and move on to the next step in the recovery process. Afterwards, the recovery process completed successfully. The problem with the toshiba recovery utility is that it takes up the whole screen, and if you don't click on the start menu button and check out the task bar at the bottom of your screen, you can't see/resolve the problems that the recovery process is having. Cheers!

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

Look and see if you have a stalled download in iTunes - it could be a song or a podcast - if there is something that has not completed in there, your app updates will not download. Finish those downloads first, if you have any.

  • After MOBO exchange cannot get Satellite A200 to work properly

    HI guys,
I have a Satellite A200 here, my friend took it to pc place and they told him it couldnt be fixed and needed a new mother board... well I managed to fix it and also connect it to the internet (Ive fixed a few PCs) anyway I did all the updates then it took forever to shut down.
Now it wont load it just says loading thats all. Or I get a black screen and now it doesnt want to load.. I cant get in to do a restore or do a hard drive test. Do u suggest anything?
I downloaded recovery disks the other night n they dont seem to want to work either. b4 I got it working I somehow got in and did a recovery or factory default software then it worked but I cant remember how I got I there lol.... any info will be helpful..and thank u in advance
    Its running windows vista

As far as I know recovery disc cannot be downloaded so I dont understand what have you done exactly.
Anyway if the notebooks hardware is OK you can install OS using original recovery DVD disc or install OS using original Microsoft installation disc.
If you have this original recovery DVD (ask your friend if he/she has one) use it for OS installation.
If you use Microsoft disc all necessary drivers you can find on Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
If you have more concrete questions you are welcome.

  • Cannot get Satellite A300 to work well

    Hi to all,
I've had many, many problems with my brothers laptop for a while now. It's a A300 Satellite (PSAGCA-06P01Q), and at first the laptop was running completely fine.
However it started freezing a lot. Every time we wanted to install a program, (in this occasion AVG 8.0) or get into control panel, computer or documents it would freeze up, seeming because the computer hasn't got enough performance to do the job. The green load bar where it says computer almost at the top of the computer pop up would load right to end, as if to say that it had finish loading, and then it would freeze.
Ctrl+Alt+Dlt won't work, so the only solution was to hold the power button. However, upon reboot exactly the same thing happened. So I decided to do the recovery back to factory settings thingy, and that went all well, until exactly the same thing happened again. So Vista may not be the problem. I have also tried system repair, (continuously pressing F8 at beginning of startup), but that has failed to give any positive results.
However, I had a 2GB Kingston RAM module that came with the laptop, and because of the sluggishness of the computer, I decided to install the RAM. Everything went perfect as the BIOS screen say it had 4096 MB of RAM (having 2GB before), so that went fine. However, trying to startup properly, after the green bar below Windows icon finishes loading, a blue screen pops up saying something (it went to fast to know what it said), then the laptop restarted.
The laptop recommended going to system repair so see if there was any problems with Vista startup but it came back to nothing. Then I decided to do system recovery aging to factory settings, but know I can't do anything because a box comes up saying which OS to fix, but there is no Vista Home edition in the box. It says load drivers, but I can't locate and files.
Any help will be very much appreciated. If you like anymore additional information just replies. XD
    Cheers, Hellas_

Test the RAM using Memtest, its a bootable CD or Floppy Disk.
Download the ISO from www.memtest.org and burn the ISO to a blank CD using an Image->Disc project.
Boot from the Memtest CD and it will start automatically. Run it for at least an hour, or overnight if possible.
Also test the HDD for bad sectors.
Run the Advanced Test in DFT. http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
Its also a bootable CD or Floppy Disk.
After testing the RAM, update the BIOS for the PSAFCA model. Go to www.isd.toshiba.com.au , select Support->Downloads, select your model in the list and download and run the latest BIOS in Windows.

  • 17" not getting past boot after complete restore from time machine

I have a 17" 2.5ghz mbp with 4gb of ram. Last week it would only boot up in safe mode and after running the apple hardware test it gave me the nvidia graphics card error code. I took Otto the apple store and they sent it in to have the logic board replaced. I got it back Friday working fine, but they had installed a clean install of osx. I used the time machine to restore my user settings but it did not restore my applications or photos. So I reformatted the HD with a snow leopard disc and once I had done that I plugged in my external HD with time machine on it and proceeded with doing a restore from my last restore point. Once that had finished and restarted it got stuck at the boot screen with the circle with the line through it. I restarted it in safe mode and everything is fine, I then ran the hardware test and nothing came up.
    Any ideas?

Just a thought... my husband's MBP 17" hard drive crashed last month. Personally, I think it was a lemon drive since DH never moved it from our home office -- and his desk's flat surface -- where he worked all the time. On the other hand, I have a MBP 13" that gets moved all over the house, stuffed into a case and carted out-of-town, and used by our kids! yet still tolerates the abuse nicely!! (I know, I just jinxed myself there, most likely!)
We bought both of our MBPs last summer, and OF COURSE when we took his to the Genius Bar to have them take a look, it was only TWO DAYS OUT OF WARRANTY! ARGH.... But!!!! Since it was still sooooo close to being in warranty, they graciously honored it and replaced the HD for free!!! Yay Apple! Now it's working beautifully!!
Interestingly... when I was first trouble-shooting his "circle/line only boot-up," I read in one forum that some of the 17" MBPs sold via retail from early to mid-2009, MIGHT have been sold with questionable HDs... hmm... but, Apple didn't find this out until complaints started coming in... I cannot find that particular forum now... argh again... and the Genius at the Bar said he had not heard of that happening... soooooooo..... no solid evidence here, but anecdotally, an interesting thought.....? Good luck!

  • I cannot get my IPhone 3gs to restore to my last backup?

I had an issue with IPhone 3gs earlier so I synced and backed-up the phone and then attempted to restore the phone to see if I could eliminate the problem. After the restore and software update, it brought me to the "Set up your IPhone" page and I selected "restore from the last backup on my iphone" then clicked "continue." It started to restore from backup and everything appeared to be running like normal, but when it was finished and my phone restarted, my apps and songs were deleted but my pictures/wallpapers/contacts were still on the phone. In addition, instead of my itunes returning to my Iphone's library, it returned to the "Set up your IPhone" page like the restore never happened. I have tried to restore from backup multiples times after that but I end up with the same result so I cannot access my iphone's library on my itunes to add any of my songs back since the restore didn't bring any of it back. Does anyone know of a way to solve this issue? I've been able to restore my iphone successfully in the past and have never experienced this problem before so I have no idea as to how I can fix it. I hope I have explained it in a way that is easy to understand and I hope someone possibly knows how to help me.
    Thank you.

  • New ipod for me cannot get it to update or restore

I bought an ipod from a friend of mine and what was included with it is the ipod itself and a cord to hook it up to the computer via USB. I've downloaded the updater from this website but it will not run correctly. what is the reason i cannot update or restore the ipod? maybe the ipod is no good?
    thanks for any answers!

What happens is when I open the installer and have it on my screen, I plug the ipod cord into the ipod itself and everything on my computer freezes for 5 minutes. after these 5 minutes I can use the internet etc., but the updater is frozen. I have let it sit for over an hour thinking that maybe it is slow. this is not working. could this be a problem with the cord? also when using the itunes after i plug up the ipod it will freeze for a few minutes then it acts as if an ipod is not connected. i have tried using several different usb ports on my computer. this is frustrating!
    thanks.

  • After a crash, I reinstalled FF, but it looks different. Bookmarks button will not stay on the screen. Thus, I cannot get to the Library, or Restore. I need to restore Bookmarks from external hard drive. I found backups but how does Firefox find them?

I have found 2 versions of my old bookmarks in my backed up data. One is under Owner/AppData/Local.../bookmarkbackup/bookmarks-2011-10-13 , etc. The other is under Firefox Profile/Cache/E7C5F7B4d01. I don't find these places in the new Firefox program just installed.

Have you tried to drag the folder that contains your music files. Locate the folder, while iTunes is open, drag the folder to the Library icon, this may help.

  • For some reason I have a full page opening screen and cannot get it to go back to normal without restoring it to an earlier time. Is there a fix for this?

My computer would not start this morning, when it did start after repairs, I had a full screen and cannot get it to go back to normal. The toolbars don't show up, nor does the Firefox. I cannot get it straightened up without restoring it to an earlier time.

  • I restored the factory setting on my ipad and now i cannot get further than

i restored my ipad to factory settings using itunes on my pc. Itunes then opened at a welcome page giving me the options of either restoring as a new ipad or restoring using the last back up it saved in the process. I opted to restore the saved back up but once this is completed Itunes reopens at the same welcome page  giving the same two options. I cannot get Itunes to give me access to any options to sync with photo files on my PC which i want to restore to the ipad. every time i plug in my ipad to itunes it just displays the same welcome page.
all the other functions and programs seem to have been restored from the back up. the photo files on my PC are deliberately not backed up into icloud but would be restored if i could make the sync with Itunes.

Which magnifier tool are you referring to? If you double-tap with 3 fingers it should disable zoom. Then you can go into Setttings>Accessibility>Zoom and turn it off.

  • HT1212 ipod restored to default but cannot get past pass code screen

I followed the instructions and still cannot get past the passcode screen now what do I do?

If you successfully (completed all steps without errors) restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that points to a hardware problem. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Yes. Just make sure to deactivate the license on both systems using Apple menu --> Deactivate while one of the suite programs is running.
