Cannot Insert Object in Excel 2013
I am having trouble inserting PDF's in Excel 2013. I go to Insert-->Object-->Create from File then browse to the PDF and select the checkbox for "Display as Icon." After doing this i get a generic error message that says "Cannot Insert Object." No other details.
Specs:
Windows 7 x64
Office 2013 x64
Adobe Reader X and XI. Tried them both.
What I have tried:
The most common answer I have found was to disable the enhanced security in the Adobe Reader preferences. This does not help.
I also tried downgrading from Adobe Reader XI to Reader x, disabling enhanced security. That does not work either.
I have found a workaround in Excel by going to Insert-->Package and doing it that way, but it does not show the Adobe Reader icon in the spreadsheet when it's done. If there's a way to use this method and still have the adobe icon that'd be great.
I called Microsoft support and they think this is an Adobe issue, because I can insert other things via the create from file method, just not PDF's.
Other notes:
The Insert-->Object-->Create from File method works fine in Excel 2010 so I think that Adobe Reader doesn't do well with Excel 2013.
I need the inserted PDF's in spreadsheets to look a certain way. They must have the Adobe Icon and I need to be able to change the text below the icon.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Update:
I uninstalled Adobe Reader and tried a different PDF reader and the insert in Excel works fine. I really would prefer to use Adobe though. This leads me to believe that maybe it's just a setting or something in Adobe reader. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Cannot insert object error using Power View in Excel 2013
I created a short table in Excel 2013, positioned the cursor in the table and clicked Inset/Power View Report. I get a status window saying Excel is opening a Power View sheet but then I get a Power View error: Cannot Insert Object. I am able to insert new
tabs in the workbook. When I try the insert again, I just get the Power View error. I looked at other threads with similar issues and did the following:
Made the Formula bar visible - no change
Tried to repair Office 2013 but that option is not available when I right click on the program in the Control Panel
De-installed Silverlight - Tried to insert Power View Report. A Power View tab was created with the Power View picture and Power View ribbon. Got the message to install Silverlight and Reload. Installed Silverlight hit Reload and the Power View tab didn't
change. Hit Power View Report and got the Cannot Insert Object error message again.
Any help is appreciated.Hi,
Did you use PowerView first time? I notice you had found a similar thread and tested the solutions.
PowerView is an add-in in Excel2013, We must make sure that you check some option in the trust center and Add-in center.

Getting "Cannot Insert Object" message while attaching .pdf file to excel spreadsheet.
While I am trying to attach an adobe (.pdf) file in excel spreadsheet I am getting message as “Cannot Insert Object”.
I am following the below mentioned steps and getting message as “Cannot Insert Object”.
Open the adobe (.pdf) file from IE browser.
While saving the adobe file on local machine it gives warning as “This document does not allow you to save any changes you have made to it unless you are using Adobe Acrobat 9, Pro 9 or Pro Extended 9. You will only be saving a copy of the original document. Do you want to continue?” On pressing "OK" it successfully saves the file on my local machine.
While I Tried to attach the saved adobe file in a spreadsheet of excel it gives message as “Cannot Insert Object”.
Does any one have any thoughts at all as to how to solve this?Deepika,
The alert dialog your screen shot depicts will only display if there is some kind of form annotation present in a PDF that is not "Reader Enabled".
Look closer at your 'final' PDF.
A PDF, not "Reader Enabled", that contains any form annotations will, when opened by Adobe Reader,
result in the alert dialog that you mention. A "hard wired" default.
Note that the forms document message bar can be "off" by a selection in Adobe Reader / Acrobat Preferences.
Select the 'Forms' category. Select "Always hide forms document message bar".

Dear all,
I'm having some serious issues with Office 2013's Trusted Center settings. In Outlook 2013 XLS Attachments cannot be directly opened in Excel 2013 with double-clicking due to Trusted Center restrictions for Excel 2013 regarding Outlook's Secure Temp Folder.
I tried to adjust the corresponding Office 2013 Administrative Template within my GPOs but to no prevail.
I did find out that Outlook 2013 places an attachment within the Outlook Secure Temp Folder located at "C:\Users\a.ollischer\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\PPIU10RW” before passing it to Excel 2013 in order to
open it. It fails due to not trusting this location though I added the corresponding path to my Trusted Locations.
What can I do in order to make this work without having to tediously save each and every attachment to "My Documents" prior to opening it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Deal and customize attachment security behavior to access such kind of blocked file format. Usually, Outlook does not allow users to open such unsafe type of attachments. It means they are blocked them by default, so you need to unblock such items using REG
values.

Inserting Object in PowerPoint 2013
Hi All,
We are unable to add a pdf(Adobe Reader 11.0.09) as an object in the powerpoint document. Insert- Object- Create from file- Browse the file and display as icon. We get the error: " The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned
an unknown error.
You may need to reinstall the server application"
We have already tried the solutions enlisted by other websites:
- Adobe Reader X is not in protected mode
- We have the latest version of antivirus in place(FEP)
- Tried re-registering OLE32.DLL
- Some websites indicated the old components of MS Office can cause compatibility issues- I have hence un-installed MS Webcompoents 2003
- I have tried running Procmon but wasnt able to find anything unusual- All the files were clearly accessed- no lockouts, no access denied
Has anybody faced the same issue before? Do we have any application having compatibility issues with Office or Adobe?
PS: We have recently moved over to MS Office 2013 and we did not face this issue with MS powerpoint 2010
Appreciate a response! Thanks.
V
VasSeems you have tried all possible solution for this issue. Do you have the "Link" check box selected when insert the PDF as an object?
Try running a repair of your office installation to see if it works:

Cannot able to save Excel 2013 file in Sharepoint 2007 document library
Dear All,
We have SharePoint 2007 intranet portal where in we have teamplace created for internal users to collaborate on documents.
Now we are having issues when using uploads Excel 2013 or Excel 2010 file on document library and try to edit the document.
Sometimes it doesn't allow to check out the file it say someone already checked out ..but when I try in my laptop its OK.
And some times when user opens the file it opens as non editable file and it does not take any changes.
Pls advise whether there is issue with SharePoint 2007 document library and Office Excel 2010,2013 files.
-- Regards SandeepThe lock can apply in two places. Are you seeing the message in your browser or does it arise within Excel itself?

Cannot insert object excel 2013 on Windows7
Hi
I'm suddenly unable to use Active-X Controls on Excel. I guess this is due to an update because a friend of mine experienced the same problem on office 2007 last week. He deleted the update because he could find the relevant KB-Number on the internet. What
is the number for Office 2013 please? How can Microsoft implement updates that break such important features?See
http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2014/12/11/forms-controls-stop-working-after-december-2014-updates-.aspx
Quit all Office applications.
Start Windows Explorer.
Enter %temp% in the address bar, then press Enter.
Use the Search box to search for *.exd
Delete all found files.
You can also open the following folders within the Temp folder and delete the .exd files in them:
- Excel8.0
- VBE
- Word8.0
Restart Windows.
(Thanks to Excel MVP Rory Archibald for pointing to the .exd files)

ORA-22979: cannot INSERT object view REF or user-defined REF
I'm getting this error when trying to insert a parent_type object into an object table. The parent object contains a nested table of parent object references.
CREATE TYPE cl_ArgList AS TABLE OF REF cl_Expression
CREATE TYPE cl_Expression AS OBJECT (
args cl_ArgList;
Somehow the system-generated parent object REF that is returned from one STATIC function (using MAKE_REF) turns into a incompatible REF by the time it is passed to aother STATIC function and used in the constructor of the nested table for a new args instance.
Does anybody know how this might be happening?
Is there any way to test if a REF is a valid system-generated REF vs. a user-defined REF?
I don't even know what a user-defined REF is, how I might be getting one, and what's wrong with it anyway. Shouldn't strong-typing ensure that the REF is okay if it is of the appropriate type?
Glenn.Okay, solved that.
FYI the problem is that the nested table arguments (REF cl_Expression) have to be SCOPED REFs, ie. constrained to refer only to objects in a particular table (although I don't really understand why).
Then of course the trick is how to constrain the arguments in the nested table, because you can't do it in the CREATE TYPE statement. You also can't do it when you create the containing table, when you define how the nested table is stored:
CREATE TABLE <containing table> OF cl_Expression (
NESTED TABLE args STORE AS t_args
Instead you have to modify the nested table properties after it has been created:
ALTER TABLE t_args ADD (SCOPE FOR (column_value) IS t_Induhvidual);
'column_value' is the actual syntax, not your own column name.
But you probably knew that ;-) -
Cannot open PDFs inserted as objects into Excel.
Two-part question. I know this has been addressed before, but the solutions are not working for me.
I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and Adobe Reader XI. When inserting a PDF document as an object into Excel, it will not allow me to insert the icon/object from the "Create New" option. I get one of two error messages: 'Cannot insert object' or 'Cannot start the soruce application for this object'. I am able to insert the PDF icon/object if I insert from the "Create from file" option. (Please note I cannot always link to the PDF, as some spreadsheets are sent out externally and will not have access.)
Once I am finally able to insert the document as an object, I can open and view the PDF. However, when I close the spreadsheet and re-open it, if I try to open the PDF document again, I get this error message again: 'Cannot start the soruce application for this object'.
I have changed my preference to disable the Protected Mode at startup and this issue is still happening. VERY frustrating. I never encountered this is past versions of Adobe and all previous suggestions are not fixing the issue. Does anyone have any insight or know of an update to fix this issue? Is this an Adobe issue or a Microsoft Office issue?Hi Jerry,

Excel 2013 "cannot use object linking and embedding error"
Hi
We are using excel export as pdf functionality and have the following DCOM configuration
1.start->run and type 'DCOMCNFG'
2: Open 'DCOM Config' and locate 'Microsoft Excel Application'
3: Set its identity to 'This User' and give specific service user
On opening excel we are getting "cannot use object linking and embedding error" and the microsoft sugestions tells to change to launching user which is not an option for us,Is there any other suggestion to fix this issue by keeping Dcom
configuration with'This User'
Thanks in advance
PradeepHi
when excel is opened, a warning pops up saying "Cannot use object linking and embedding" . This
fix change the DCOM ID to Launching User) does not work for us. We need the Excel DCOM ID to use a particular user "domain\user" in order to access excel from our website.
Is there any other suggestions
Thanks in advance

Hello everyone,
I am getting the following error while importing the CRM 2013 managed solution, Does anyone have any idea regarding this, What could be the possible cause for this ?
"Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'XPKLocalizedLabel'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'MetadataSchema.LocalizedLabel'. The duplicate key value is (184191c0-1d6f-e411-9400-e41f13be2efc, 25a01723-9f63-4449-a3e0-046cc23a2902, 0,
Jan 1 1900 12:00AM). The statement has been terminated."
and this guids in the error message is different from organization to organization. Where it is having fix with the solution or organization ?
please help me to solve this.
Thanks in advance, VeereshHi All,
I have exported one unmanaged solution from my development CRM system and imported in to production, while importing i am getting the following error.
"Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'XPKLocalizedLabel'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'MetadataSchema.LocalizedLabel'. The duplicate key value is (184191c0-1d6f-e411-9400-e41f13be2efc, 25a01723-9f63-4449-a3e0-046cc23a2902,
0, Jan 1 1900 12:00AM).
The statement has been terminated."
The key point i have noticed here is, recently i have updated my CRM system with server pack 1 and development organization is created after the server pack is installed and production organization is created before the server pack is installed. and
i have tried this in some other organization which is created before the server pack 1 installed it is failed there also and some organization which is created after the server pack 1 is installed it is imported successfully.
so i can see here it is not able to import solution into organization which is created before server pack 1 is installed from which is created after the server pack 1 is installed.
please help me to solve this error.
Thanks,
Veeresh
