Cannot log on to firefox home and can't get into safe mode

after installing an add on, I can not open the firefox window, or get into safe mode.......so I have no way of applying any troubleshooting actions.......the add on was an extension to stop ads and banners, the name was 3 letters A-- ...should I reinstall firefox?.........thanks for your time and expertise.......Larry

Thanks for the effort but it doesn't help me.
I have the same problem that the progress bar stops at 1/4 the it reboots in the normal way..but the big difference between me and the other user is that i am stucked at the apple boot logo and i can't access to my computer and right now i really need it.
I use this mac for work and i am on a business trip.
I don't really know how to do and it seems that this problem haven't been solved yet by other people.
This remembers me windows world.

You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.

IMac G5 running OS 10.4.11. Started playing with a bluetooth speaker (may or may not be related). Now I cannot get past the blue screen on startup. I can get into safe mode. Tried install disc for disc utility and reloaded OS. Still get blue screen.

I can get into safe mode. But no regular startup.
I tried disabling bluetooth, thinking that might be related. It didn't help.
I even tried using the install disc to run disc utility. That didn't work so I reloaded the OS.
But I still get hung on the blue screen when trying a normal startup.
All help would be appreciated.

Try resetting the PMU/SMU and PRAM/NVRAM. You'd need to identify the mode of resetting depending on the model of your G5 iMac. The Apple support sites that would help you for this are –

If you know the password to your apple id login - you can then do a restoration once you have put your device into recovery mode using itunes.
read this article to give you direction how to put your device into recovery mode.
Once you have put in your apple id login and password this then will allow you to restore the device once the device is placed in recovery mode.

Take a look at Apple's document for authorizations -> iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization.
You can deauthorize all computers from iTunes. All you have to do is click iTunes Store, click your account name in the upper right corner of iTunes, then deauthorize all.

Can anybody help me on this issue? I have already tried to replace the batteries but since the computer won't get past the spinning wheel of death then the keyboard won't connect.

Please follow Apple's advice in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570. If you need to get your hands on a wired USB keyboard, even a PC one will work fine.
Do not follow the previous poster's advice, that option is a "last chance" option. OS X is stable and in most cases a reinstall is never needed. Follow the directions in Apple's letter.

Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when opening iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (or C:\Username\Music\iTunes\ in Vista). Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

Can't boot into safe mode - PC keyboard

My Mini can't log in. I know why -- and even how to fix it -- but I'm unable to boot into any alternate state to make the fix.
The situation: PC keyboard (AOpen 90.00029.UB1) and a Logitech 4-button mouse, both USB native; also tried Dell PS/2 keyboard with a USB adapter. VGA adapter is connected to analog LCD. Away from home; do not have OS X install DVDs with me. LoginWindow.plist is fatally borked, but I can't get at it to undo the damage.
Symptoms: Mini will not respond to ANY keyboard actions during boot. Cmd-s, Cmd-v, Shift, Cmd-Opt-p-r, Cmd-Opt-o-f, or even C to boot from CD (I have a PPC Ubuntu live CD, never tested prior to this disaster). No feedback to indicate anything is happening.
If it means anything, I have the startup chime turned off by a third-party utility. Much too loud for my household.
Anyway, the sequence of events is ALWAYS the same:
* Power on
* No video (not just black -- no signal)
* CD noises
* With actual disc in drive, CD spin-up
* Still no video
* CD slows slightly (if disc in drive)
* First video activity: gray logo screen
* Spinning gear thing
* Black screen
* "Starting Mac OS X" (sometimes only a brief flash)
* Stops at blue screen with mouse cursor, no Finder
The Mini will only respond to: (1) power button on/off; (2) power-on-and-hold to go into that firmware update mode -- get scary loud tone, flashing LED, then above sequence as usual; and (3) mouse-down to eject CD. Oh, and I can move the mouse pointer around when I get to the blue screen. Yay.
For the past 24 hours I have been searching the net for ANY indication that a PC keyboard is capable/incapable of inducing Safe Mode (or any other mode). Can't find a firm Yes or No, or even a Sometimes/Maybe.
Wondering if keys are mapped differently on PC keyboards -- maybe Shift isn't really Shift as far as Mac ROM is concerned, so no Safe Mode? Tried other random key combos to no avail. Can't find a "rosetta stone" for USB keyboard signalling on net to prove/disprove theory.
First Mac, no points of reference. Hopelessly lost.

Final results are in. I ordered an Apple keyboard from Amazon, plugged it into the Mini tonight and wonder of wonders, I could get into Safe Mode, Single User Mode, Pie à la Mode, you name it. Microsoft and Apple clearly have different ideas about USB keyboards at the hardware level. (And just for the record, the Mac keyboard won't get me into my PC's BIOS either.)
Fixing the login problem took considerably longer, but that's because I overlooked the obvious and wasted a lot of time on generic boot troubleshooting: If you got yourself into trouble with defaults write, a little reading of the Man pages will lead you to defaults delete.
Things go much smoother when you have a well defined target.
Anyway, anyone out there with a Mini and a PC keyboard, do the Safe Boot test now. If it ain't working, do yourself a favor and get a Mac keyboard.

Can anyone suggest a remedy for what's ailing this powerbook. its a g4 powerbook, i don't have much more info other than that. all indications are that it is running 10.2.6, although i was told that it had been updated to 10.2.8, its possible that it was updated only to 10.2.6. following the update, you get to the apple and spinning pinwheel screen and it will not proceed. literally, the pinwheel will spin for 24 hours+.
it looks like it gets to the point of the startup(login) items and hangs indefinitely. ie it will
if i start in verbose mode it will, give some clues:
truncated or malformed library: /System/Libray/Frameworks/Security.frameworks/Versions/A/Security
Some starup items failed to launch due to conflicts
/usr/libexec/crashreporterd: crashdump terminated by signal 5
init: getty repeating too quickly on port /dev/console, sleeping
/usr/libexec/crashreporterd: crashdump terminated by signal 5
last message repeated 10 times

this will continue to be repeated and i assume a new core.## file is sent to the /cores folder, until the hard drive is maxed out.
I can boot in single user mode and everything is fine but i cannot boot into safe mode.
fsck says the disk is fine, as does disk first aid, i have also corrected permissions, and followed many of the things that have been previously posted.
It looks like ther are conflicts with some startup items, what can i move from the starup folder and is best not to be touched?
what about the truncated library message?
also can i update to 10.2.8 from the single user mode, if i cannot get into safe mode?
any suggestions?

I have solved this problem. I mounted the laptop in target mode and replaced this file:
/System/Library/Frameworks/Security.framework/Versions/A/Security
with the equivalent file from a machine running 10.2.8.
It booted all the way through then i upgraded to 10.2.8.

No display after changing settings. Can't get to safe mode to change it back. Help please.

I was trying to change my display to an external monitor going through a laptop dock. I had managed it before without the dock. I changed something in the display properties wizard and now have no display either on the external monitor, or on the built in screen. I have tried every combination of going through the dock or directly plugged in, and also with no monitor. I cannot get a display. I have tried to get into safe mode but cannot - the screen goes black immediately after the lenovo logo goes off.
It seems a bit silly that this is possible really with a "are you sure you can see this?" before confirming (like when you change screen resolutions).
Any ideas? Really stuck. The machine is only 2 months old.

Am I correct in this? The G500 can't boot from a DVD or USB stick?

Cannot get into Safe Mode

Fairly new Toshiba Satellite p875-s7102 (purchased in Feb but rarely used). Laptop has not been working for a week, been trying everything. Now I cannot even get into Safe Mode. Almost every link I read shows how once you get to the Windows Start page but I can't even get to that. I have beat the hell out of F8 button to no luck. I have had every issue trying to fix this lap- error messages, blue screen, Disk at 100% usage, Check disc at start stopping at 40% scan, you name it it's happened. Any suggestions other than throwing this thing against the wall???

I tried to follow the directions here http://support.toshiba.com/support/viewContentDetail?contentId=2737864 to restore to factory settings. I press 0 (zero).....
In Windows 8 things are different. This part was intended to help (but doesn't help much).
For laptops equipped with Windows 8, "Reset" returns your computer to its out-of-box, factory default conditions (removes your personal files and apps as well reset all settings to defaults) similar to a “System Recovery.” Refer to the How To: Understanding System Restore, Refresh, Reset, and, Recovery options in Windows 8 + Video knowledge base article for complete information.
In case Windows does not boot, you should be able to enter the recovery environment, which in Windows 8.x looks like the picture below.
From Troubleshoot you can go to System Restore, Safe Mode, Startup repair ("Automatic Repair"), a command prompt, the BIOS/UEFI, or even restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents from the recovery partition..
According to Microsoft, trying and failing to boot several times will eventually take you to the recovery environment instead. According to Toshiba, you can also get there by pressing F2 or the zero key on powering up.
If you have completely shut down, Toshiba says you can get there using F12 to reach the UEFI boot menu and then selecting HDD Recovery. One might expect that to take you to Toshiba's recovery back to factory-new, but it actually leads to the recovery environment above.
Please try these out many, many times and let us know what happens.
