Cannot Manual add music or restore

Back in June I bought an iPod shuffle for the missus and had problems manually adding music. This was fixed as described here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2501294
I've not tried changing any of the tracks since then until this weekend, where once again I couldn't add any tracks, and received this error: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/groves.darren/ipod/readwriteerror.jpg then when you click OK you get this error: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/groves.darren/ipod/uknownerror.jpg
I tried to 'restore' the iPod through Itunes and then got this error: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/groves.darren/ipod/restoreerror.jpg
Itunes version: 7
Ipod software version: 1.1.4
The fix before was to leave the shuffle in the iTunes source list, but I can't even find that option anymore.
Any suggestions please people.
Thanks

Thanks, I had already found that document.
I can confirm I'm running XP and it's up to date, I have installed the latest chipset & USB drivers (VIA). I have tried with no other software running, anti-virus disabled, in the USB ports at the rear (connected to the mobo), and the those at the breakout panel at the front - no different.
The only way I can now choose which songs I want on the shuffle is by creating another profile on my PC, and having just the tracks I want on the shuffle in the iTunes library, restoring to factory setting, and on the initial connection choosing autofill.
As soon as I try and add anything manually i get the error I previously stated, and then the iPod won't play, you get the flashing green/orange lights.
Any others ideas?

  • TS1347 I cannot manually add an appt to my iPhone 4S calendar

After I updated my iPhone 4S with new operating sys I cannot manually add events to my calendar.

It means that you have too many tasks running on your phone (in the background) and need to close them down. You do this by deleting the tasks from the multi-bar at the bottom of the phone screen.
To delete tasks off the multitask bar, click the button on the bottom/front of the phone twice quickly. This will dislay just the multitask bar at the bottom of the screen (generally you see Music, Phone, Mail, and Safari here). Then click one of those tasks and you'll see all the items in your multi-task bar start to wiggle. You can scroll across from right to left to see all the apps you still have running, even if you aren't using them. click the X on each of these to close the apss -- this will not delete them from your OS. I did this and am now able to create Calendar events again!

  • What happened to manually add music?

I'm in iTunes 8.2 and I no longer have the option to manually add music to an iPod. I'm required to sync. What happened to this feature?

Thanks for the judgmental response, Dave. My favorite part was where you told me how to manage the space on my computer. My second favorite part was when you accused me to stealing music.
I have only synced my iPhone with one computer and its iTunes library. I download music legally to that computer, from mixtape sites, Bandcamp, Amazon and---GASP---other none iTunes sites, load it onto my iPhone, then delete some of it, because I don't listen to music on my computer. I listen to it on a device I purchased to play it. That device is called an iPhone. It's supposed to play mp3s.
    Have I blown your mind?
But if I am hearing you right, you are telling me the iPhone is literally the only mp3 player in existence that doesn't and shouldn't have the basic functionality to have new mp3s loaded to it from a single authorized computer. That I should be happy now that I cannot load new music onto it, and I should just live with the music that I have already loaded, since I can't load anymore.
And that I should be happy that this basic functionality that, until the most recent software update, I have always had has magically disappeared.
How foolish it was of me to be upset about this! Thank you for showing me the light, Dave.

  • Cannot Manually Add Top Sites

This problem is driving my nuts.
On both of my Macs, I cannot manually add URLs to Top Sites as I used to be able to. Dragging a URL into a Top Sites window (in "Edit" mode), does nothing. It used to allow the URL to be dropped in an available space, manually creating a Top Site.
This isn't working on my 2011 MacBook Pro, and I was curious to see if it would work on my new Mac Mini that I just got, out of the box....nope.
    Both Safari 6.0.1 and OS X 10.8.2
Reset Safari > Reset Top Sites has no effect.

    I have the same problem.
It would be nice to have a suggestion for solving this problem.

  • I am unable to manually add music to my iphone.

I have an iphone 3gs. Laptop running windows XP.
I have, for years, manually managed my music etc. I have the "manually manage music" box checked.
But when I drag music onto my phone in the sidebar, instead of getting the "+", at which point the device shows the spinning "synch" circle, I get a grey crossed out circle - the international symbol for "NO".
My phone has space on it.
Also, if I delete a song off my phone in itunes, it doesn't actually delete it off the device - there is no "synch" process. If i delete the song off the phone through the music ap, my computer/itunes thinks it's still there.
All i want to do is add an album, but this *** doesn't even do that. What is it, is my phone no longer supported by itunes because it's old?
Have i simply gone too long without buying a new phone and now it's "locked" (im being facetious, i know, but this is infuriating).
Please note, i do NOT want to "restore" or delete my phone. That is not a viable option for this sort of thing. You wouldn't get that in a hospital: "I've broken my finger."
"Ok, let's cut your arm off, and attach a new one"
I also do not want to automatically synch music - doing so will erase my music, and my computer library is bigger than the phone. I only want specific songs that i chose.

The new iTunes 12 Get Info dialog lacks right-click context menus (at least for now) but it still accepts most standard keyboard shortcuts and drag & drop actions.
    Delete Artwork
On the artwork tab of Get Into, tap the image in question, use Backspace or Ctrl+X. Delete doesn't work.
Or, tap the image at the top left of Get Info, this time use Backspace or Delete, it is Ctrl+X that doesn't work.
    Add Artwork
Select artwork, press Ctrl+C to copy, tap the centre of the Artwork tab, press Ctrl+V to paste.
Or, select artwork, press Ctrl+C to copy, tap the small image area at the top left, press Ctrl+V to paste.
Or, you can drag & drop to, or sometimes from, the same locations.
You can also copy artwork from the Get Info dialog to Windows Explorer with the keyboard shortcuts.
If the source image is on a web page right-click and use Copy Image rather than copy. (With Chrome I get a one pixel wraparound so tend to go for a temporary local copy anyway - not sure whose bug this is, but it isn't new.)
If you have multiple images embedded drag the one you want to be the primary artwork to the leftmost position.
    Replace/Remove All Artwork
The top left image box can be used to add or delete art from multiple tracks. In either case all existing artwork in all tracks is replaced/removed.
    Old Style Get Info Dialog
Select some items, right-click, hold down shift, then click Get Info from the context menu. (Use alt/option on a Mac)
If you still cannot add artwork via any of these methods then I would suspect a permissions problem. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.

  • HT1535 How do you manually add music to a device's playlist in iTunes 11??? YOU CAN'T!!!

I don't know what Apple was thinking with iTunes 11, this is the worst iTunes EVER. Year after year, Apple continues to ruin what used to be a great app.
In iTunes 11, your devices no longer appear on the left along side your playlists. There's now a spot in the top right corner that says the number of devices. If you click on that button you can see the devices that are connected, the ammount of free space and an eject icon but that's it. If you click on the device, you can set it up but I cannot seem to find a way to simply drag and drop a song from my music library to my iPod or more importantly to a specific playlist on my iPod. A very common thing... HOW DO I DRAG AND DROP SONGS INTO AN IPOD PLAYLIST IN ITUNES 11???
If there is no answer, how do I downgrade my iTunes to 10 or 9???

It's is Sooooooooo RETARTED!!! WHY CAN'T I MANUALLY ADD PLAYLISTS TO MY IPHONE??? AFTER I PURCHASE MUSIC IN ITUNES I THEN USUALLY CREATE A PLAYLIST (In Itunes 10.7) BECAUSE I FORGET THE ARTISTS!! AFTER I CREATE MY PLAYLIST I WOULD MANUALLY DRAG THAT PLAYLIST TO MY EXISTING IPHONE ICON AND VOILA! NOW I CAN'T EVEN DO THAT!! I HAVE TO WRITE DOWN THE ARTSISTS NAMES AND ENTER THEM INTO THE SEARCH BAR AND ADD THE SONGS MANUALLY TO MY IPHONE ICON!!!! ITUNES 11 JUST PUTS ME IN A REALLY BAD MOOD! I'm soo mad and upset. First world problems yo...

  • I can no longer manually add music to my iPhone from iTunes; what happened?

Recently I have been unable to add new music to my iPhone from iTunes. I used to be able to just select the songs I wanted, then drag and drop them onto to the phone by hovering over the iPhone icon. Now I get a crossed-out circle icon when I try to do this. Why is this happening, and how can I work around it? I'm pretty frustrated, as you can imagine!

Thanks for the judgmental response, Dave. My favorite part was where you told me how to manage the space on my computer. My second favorite part was when you accused me to stealing music.

  • Cannot manually manage music and videos without erasing and syncing first

I have an iPhone 3G bought new from the Apple store using 2.1. Using iTunes 8.0 and checking the "Manually manage music and video" checkbox, iTunes prompts me to "Erase and Sync", no other option is available to me. It was the same when using version 7.7 as well.
I'm not syncing to another computer, it's the same MacBook I've had for almost a year. How do I get the Library Persistent ID in iTunes to match the iPhone. I have the ID from the iTunes Music Library.xml file. I just need to know where the matching file for the iPhone is so I can make them match.
The ID doesn't match because I had to rebuild my drive a month ago and my question to Apple (actually Steve) is why can't I sync the other way from the phone to the computer.
Why does my library on the phone have to be wiped out. Who had the warped thought to come up with this genius idea.

I cannot express how disappointing this was for me to find out.
I want my music to be mobile, I don't want to have to copy it to every computer I want to listen to it on. I want to listen to it from the device, and be able to buy a new album at work or at home. This is a major disappointment for me, as every other device I have owned including my iPod Touch had this capability. I could authorize 5 machines and manually sync, and the music on that device could be played and managed on those authorized machines. For example, my wife has her own music collection, and I have mine, but we have a media center connected to our flat-screen in the living room, that we use for playing music when we are entertaining guests, and with our old iPods and iPod Touch devices, we could unplug one of our devices and plug the other persons in and listen to music from both our libraries without copying the music to that computer, as long as we authorized that machine for the both of us. Now with our iPhones there is no way to keep our seperate librarys and be able to play music on multiple computers in our house and at work, which we have always been able to do until our iPhones. The whole point of the iPhone for me was to be able to combine two devices and now because of the lack of this feature I still have to keep all our iPods around too... Dumb. I almost took our phones back because of this, and if apple doesn't fix it, I probably won't buy another. They should have at least mentioned this little fact before selling the devices to us. I know it's a different device, but it's similar enough that you expect it to work the same as the iPod and iPod Touch. It's not like I am wanting to be able to copy music from the device to multiple machines, it's exactly the opposite... I just want to be able to copy music to the device and listen to it at home and at work... why all apples other devices do this, and the iPhone doesn't is completely perplexing to me, and a serious oversight on there part. This pill would not be so hard to swallow if I had been warned about this prior to dropping almost a grand for iPhones for myself and my wife, expecting what I saw as a more advanced device to work at least as good as the other similar devices I own did.

  • Cannot manually manage music

I recently had to replace my hard drive, and I am just now trying to manage my iPhone music again through iTunes. At the moment, I cannot manage my music. When I go into the summary page and click "Manually manage music and videos," then Apply, I get the message "This iPhone is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?" The only choices which appear are Cancel or Erase and Sync. I don't want to erase my iPhone, but I do want to be able to manage my music...what do I have to do to be able to select the manually manage music option without erasing my iPhone?

Well, without a backup, you're gonna have to use third party software to first put your content into itunes BEFORE you sync. You can transfer purchased content, as I've said: File>Transfer Purchases. Music you ripped on your own will have to be transfered by third party software:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/
Like I said, when you first sync or manually manage, all itunes content on your phone will be erased & replaced with the content from your "new" computer. There is no way to avoid this. Backing up is your only protection, as the iphone is NOT a backup device.

  • How to manually add music

I want to add music manually from my mac. however when i try to set it up to do that, it wipes my itouch music out completely and have to do a complete re-sync for music from the Library. Isn't there some way to sync it and only add new music that i have added?
Also, how do only add certain tracks on the albums that I have added to library. thanks in advance to help!

I just use the manually manage music selection. I don't ever sync music because my music library would be huge and I constantly add and delete music.

I'm attempting to manually add an album in my library onto my iphone library, but it won't let me.
On the phone summary it only has "Manually manage videos" and not music, and on the Music tab it only allows me to add voice memos.
Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong?

I can't figure out how to add music manually when synced to my itunes 12. I could just drag the song to the ipad icon in previous versions to add, but it doesn't appear to work the same way with this latest version.

I don't have the latest version of iTunes, but on a hunch, do you have iTunes configured to Manually Manage Music and Videos in the settings?

  • Unable to manually add music to my iphone

For some reason, when I go to settings for my iphone and I click manually manage music, I get a message that in oder to apply this change, I must erase my iphone and start over. I have 2 computers and it gives me the same message with each computer. This is rediculous since 1 of the computer is the home computer. I do not want to erase my iphone because of all the apps and my contacts. What do I do?

You can only sync or manually manage music with one iTunes library at a time.  Move the music you want on the phone to the computer you normally sync with and  add it to the phone from there.
Changing between syncing and manually managing music will always facilitate erasing all of the media from the phone.

  • Can I manually add music WITHOUT 'Erasing and Syncing'

I've always been able to import individual songs from my iMac to my iPhone - however, I recently got a MacBook, and now all I'm able to do is create a new playlist under the little "iPhone" badge that appears once you connect it to the computer. Like when you click and drag a song with your iPhone connected, a bar slides out from the right side that typically allowed me to then drop it onto "Ethan's iPhone" which would in turn sync the song.
I believe the solution to that is to check 'manually manage music and videos' under the iPhone settings page in iTunes - however, it then asks me to erase all of the music on my iPhone and sync it with my MacBook. But I would then lose a large majority of what I have since I imported a lot through CD's on my iMac.
Is there anyway around this? I really just want to import one or two individual songs - not erase everything.

Just add the songs you want to your iTunes library, go to 'iPhone', go to 'on this iPhone' and click 'autofill' at the bottom right

  • Cannot manually download music to my iPhone.

I bought songs off of iTunes and when I go to drag them to my iPhone to be downloaded, it doesn't form the blue box around it and let me download it to my iPhone. It doesn't say anything, it just won't let the song download. The iPhone is connected via USB.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
