Cannot open/install lightroom 5.5

I have a problem with updating my adobe lightroom 5 to 5.5. I have bought a new camera (nx3000) with lightroom 5 in the box. From the cd everything works, but I can't update it to 5.5.
I download the file and get an error that it cannot unpack the file. I tried to open it as administrator, re-download the installation file and tried it with compatibility windows 7. Nothing helps.... I need the update to open my RAW files.
Specs computer:
- Windows 8.1 64 bit
- Intel I-5 with 3.10GHz
- 6 GB DDR3 Ram
- 5 GB free on ssd (C:) and 1 TB free on hdd (F:)
- GeForce GT 545 (3gb)
Hope that this is enough and sorry for my bad English,
Wouter
Ps. The picture is dutch, translation: There was a problem occurred while extracting of the archive. Try to download 'Photoshop Lightroom 5.5 Installer' again.

Download the package again using another browser and also save it to a different location.

  • Cannot 'open with' Lightroom

I'm using XP Pro and have a number of RAW files that are not in a Lightroom Catalogue.
I normally go straight to the file folder right click the mouse and open the RAW file by using the 'open with' command.
This does not seem to work with Lightroom, even if I try to 'choose' another program.
Am I right in thinking any photo I want to open with Lightroom must be imported into a catalogue first, or is there a way around this?
    Regards,
    Steve

    Thanks guys for your replies,
    as I suspected!
For the record, it is the 'develop' features for which I really wanted Lightroom. As a former Rawshooter Pro user I prefer these to alternatives in other software packages.
In general, I'd rather control my Libaries myself, which is why I do not use the facilities in Bridge or Elements. Glancing through this forum, many of the queries relate to what you can and cannot do by way of importing, exporting and deleting files and photos. All too constricting, in my view, if you are a long time Windows user.
I guess I shall cut and paste my files into their destination folders directly from the CF 'drive' and then import them to Lightroom for processing.
    Thanks again for the clarification,
    Steve.

  • I Cannot open up Lightroom 5.3 anymore.  What happened????

I have owned and used Lightroom 5.3 64 bit for several months now. Last night I went to go work on some photos and now the whole program will not open up!!!! I have spent more than a half of a day on SUPER BOWL SUNDAY mind you, trying to figure out what went wrong.  I have done a system restore. Nothing. I have deleted all my Lightroom programs and reloaded them. Nothing. I have no other options to try.  What do I do NOW???  I paid good money for a program that every few months just stops working and I bash my head against the wall with my limited computer knowledge to try to get it up and running again. This is NOT the first time I have had this happen and each time I don't know what I did to fix it.
Why won't this program STABILIZE??? And what do I try now?????

Are you getting any error messages?
Try starting up LR with the Alt key pressed and held.  If you do this, and LR can get started up to this point, then it will show you a list of LR catalogs.  Make note of where they are.
Then try deleting your LR preferences file, which is stored under your users folder and not affected by re-installing the software.
Then start up LR, again, and see if it works.
Here is the process for resetting LR preferences:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/recover-catalog-images-resetting-lightrooms.html
You obviously cannot start LR so the first step of finding out where your catalog is stored via LR menus isn’t posstibel.  That is why I suggested using the Alt-key method, above.
If you cannot find your LR catalog location via either method, then search your hard-drive for .lrcat files and make note of where they are before resetting your preferences.  The reason why this is important is that LR remembers where your last catalog file is in the preferences and if you reset your LR preferences then it will no longer know where, and you’ll have to tell it the first time you start it up, afterwards.

  • Cannot re-install Lightroom 5

Hi all and thank you for your attention.
I have a basic CC Photo subscription (Photoshop CC + LR)
I have a MACPRO with MASTER OS disk (A) separated from HOME directory and data disk (B). Recently i was forced to reinstall OS MAVERICKS (disk A), then i pointed the HOME location to the secondary disk (B) and all seemed ok, all my data and documents are still there. BUT when I re-installed CREATIVE CLOUD DESKTOP application, it tells me that LIGHTROOM 5 is already installed and doesn't let me re-install it........
I'm fairly new with both mac OS and Creative Cloud and so i cannot understand what I'am doing wrong
Have you ever experienced something like this?
    Thank you for your help
    Andrea

Sorry. I think I figured it out. I think I can just log onto the Adobe account and it lists my software and registration codes that I need. It will be on the same computer so hopefully it will allow redownloading and then I can retrieve my connection to files.

  • Cannot open new lightroom

    I need some help!
I downloaded the new version of Photoshop Lightroom via Adobe Creative Cloud.
It appears that the download worked fine. I have new files in my hard drive and a new icon for Lightroom, which by the way it doesn't open the program.
Also, I still have a copy of lightroom 5.7 which is working fine.
I need to understand why the new software doesn't open. I'm afraid to uninstall Lightroom since I dont want to uninstall 5.7 until the new software works.
Any ideas? What should I do?
    Many thanks in advance.

True, and I did contact them about offering a DNG export option which I think would be a good move in any event as other raw for, mats are offering that for future file opening protection
That would solve the issue if they could export the raw data as a DNG. But that's unlikely. They probably don't want to provide you the option of using another raw converter (for whatever silly reasons). It appears they offer the option of saving a DNG of the rendered not raw data but that doesn't buy you anything. Bottom line is, you have to wait on Adobe to update the proprietary raw format that has no reason to be proprietary in the first place. The optional JPEG most cameras provide isn't proprietary and everyone has access to that data the day the camera ships. But for some politically stupid reasons, the camera manufacturers don't do this with the raw data and we all get to wait on every other company who's raw converter we'd like to use to spend the time and money to update the format. It will eventually happen, begging the question why the camera manufacturer's do this in the first place.

  • Cannot open installed programs? Insufficient permissions?

My apologies if this question has already been answered, or if I'm posting in the wrong place. We just got two lovely new macs in the library - one is a 20 inch iMac running leopard, to supplement our two eMacs running Panther and Tiger respectively. On the iMac, I asked that Final Cut Express and iWork be preinstalled. The disks came with the machine and I installed them today, typing in the registration codes when prompted. However, both times I got a message that the user (I was installing from the kids' desktop, which is a standard account) did not have sufficient privileges to complete the installation. After this, I was prompted for my administrator's code, typed it in, and completed the installation.
Here's the result: I can run both programs from the library desktop, but neither one will open from the teen's desktop. And I want the kids to be able to use the programs! I also keep getting asked for the registration numbers; the computer doesn't seem to remember that I already entered it. We had similar problems on the eMacs when we gave the kids a limited account, but they were mostly solved when we changed that to a standard account, which is what we have on the new iMac.
I'm sorry if this is unclear, but leopard is brand new to me, and I still don't feel as expert with OS X as I was with the classic OS. It is a beautiful machine, though! I hope we'll be able to get those programs working for the kids - all the preinstalled programs are working beautifully. TIA!

For some reason the programs are working now. I don't know how or why, which is frustrating, but the good thing is that they are working.

The situation with Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 and version earlier than it (in particular 3.0/3.0.2) is disturbing with regard to MPEG2 Activation.
Adobe document says that it no longer supports MPEG2 Activation for versions 8.0/8.0.1 and earlier and points the users of this group of products to a version later than 8.0/8.0.1, the current latest version 12.
But, I am not sure of the real answer. The doubts are cast by the findings of some who have claimed to have solved the problem using a uninstall/ccleaner/reinstall scheme when they have been met by the MPEG2 Activation issue.
But, I would ask....Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your Windows 7 64 bit computer? And, are you working with version 3.0 as the 3.0.2 Update?
Is it still possible to run your Premiere Elements 3.0/3.0.2 on the prior computer on which it was installed?
Also, does your Windows 7 64 bit come with Windows XP Mode
Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7
which is essentially a virtual Windows XP Professional SP3 32 bit.
As last resort, and highly experimental, but would you have time to experiment by replacing your latest version of QuickTime with the QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1 and then determining what happens with your Premiere Elements 3.0/3.0.2  Windows 7 64 bit situation? Do not bother with the MPEG Streamclip program download, just the QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1.

Please review, consider, and do what you feel comfortable with. We will be watching for your progress.

I installed the Lightroom CC update.  Now I cannot open the program.  Any suggestions?

    I'm having the same issue.
I had Lightroom 5 installed via CC, and working fine on a Windows 7 desktop.

I cannot open a file from lightroom into CC2014 unless I open it as a smart object. CC opens, just will not display my image. i am given an error code when I save an image, and can only save to my desktop or other locations, not automatically back into my lightroom.
I am using LR5 latest update, as well as CC2014
    Below is the error message:
    Line: 1 ->  photoshop.notifyLightroomDocClosed ('lightroom-2.0', 'B53AFA39-A49B-4709-A9BD-0B6467C175C3', 'Macintosh HD:Users:BPexposures:Desktop:_DSC5962 as Smart Object-1.psd');

I was also having this issue, and I did some more searching and found this answer in the Adobe forums: Re: Photos from Lightroom 5 to Photoshop CC (2014) and back.... The issue appears to be caused by having not updated Lightroom to the latest version prior to having CC2014 installed (wow that's stupid). The trick seems to be to uninstall Photoshop CC2014 and to then reinstall it after having upgraded to Lightroom 5.5.

  • Cannot open Lightroom program

When clicking on the image to start the program it shows the name of only one of my many catalogs, and when trying to open it, I get an error message stating something like unexpected error - cannot open, try another catalog, but no names or or paths to the other catalogs are accessible?
Yesterday I installed ZIPfile software and also CanoScan 9000f with software and I am afraid that either of those may have overwritten the access rules to Lightroom, but do not know.
    TAittola

I had exactly the same issue and fixed it almost instantly by following the suggestion to rename the previews.lrdata folder in my latest lightroom backup file. This is the same as deleting it. When you then open Lightroom, it will regenerate the missing previews quickly and you will be back in business. My problem was caused by an interruption in the backup process which corrupted the file. John W.
