Cannot open more than 1 PDF

I have Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit.  I am able to open a single document without problems.  However, if I try to open another PDF, a Reader window opens that is blank, my computer freezes for about 10 seconds, and the entire screen flickers about every 3 seconds.  Once this is over, the blank window remains and I can then close it.  After closing it, I can continue working with the first PDF without any problems.  This is the first time I have experienced this, and it happened shortly after the latest Adobe Reader update.  Any ideas on what is going on and how I can fix it?  I have already tried uninstalling everything Adobe in Add/Remove programs and reinstalling, but I'm still having the same problem.

When I try opening a second PDF it goes back to the first PDF which is already open and the new one does not open. I have to delete the already open PDF to open a new one.
My friend has the same issue with his but originally he also could open up to 5 PDFs.

  • After i downloaded Firefox 7, I cannot open more than one page at a time. I have done everything you suggested about ad-on, etc. Other people are having problems. Can I get reall help with this or should I just reload Firefox 4?

Firefox 7 is a dud. Cannot open more than one tab at a time, will not open additional pages. Nothing you suggested has worked.
Can I take down Firefox 7 and reload Firefox 4?
I need to talk with a live person! I am real disappointed with this.

Sorry there is no telephone support. You could try the IRC if you want a quick response, ( whilst it is [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/ask open] )
Firefox 4 is not supported, but firefox 3.6 is

I click on the "+"on the top line of the window. It should open another TAB but id does NOT.
I click on the File item in the top menu bar. A drop-down menu pops up. I click on "New Tab" and nothing happens.
How can I get more than 1 Tab on the same window ?
This feature works with Safari !
    Thank you so much.
    Best regards

We have seen reports about a Community Toolbar extension causing this issue with not being able to open a new tab.
So if you have such a toolbar then start with disabling it.

  • AI cannot open more than 100MB file

my AI software dont know sudden cannot open more than 100MB AI file, I try clean up temp file, and repair the software, but still cannot open more than 100MB file,
    anyone can help, thanks

Ask in the AI forum and provide system info, details about the file you are trying to open and so on. A 100MB AI file can literalyl contain trillions of points and paths and may never be possible to open even on a powerful system. Otherwise it could simply be damaged/ malformated, if this is e.g. exported from a CAD program.

  • I started working for ChaCha, and now firefox will not work unless I manually close it in the process tree every time I want to use it. I also cannot open more than 1 page at a time.

I started working for ChaCha 11/26/2010, I had to download a program to take incoming questions.
Ever since then, Firefox will not work correctly, even if I am totally logged out of ChaCha, and the page is closed, if I try to open my browser using Firefox, it will not open, I have to go into the processor tree and manually end Firefox, then it will work, but it will only let me open 1 page at a time. For example I have Firefox open now, but if I go and click on the icon to open it in a new browser, it will not open, I either have to close this, or use IE-I HATE IE lol.
I cannot use the ChaCha add on you have because it is not for the new version of Firefox, please help, I love Firefox, but not being able to open more than one window/page at a time does not cut it, nor does having to manually stop it from processing. I have tried re-installing it too.
    Thank you, Melinda

I should add that I face the same problem with Safari and Google Chrome.

  • Since I upgraded Firefox, I cannot open more than 1 session at a time. What can I do to correct the problem?

Since I updated Firefox, I can no longer open more than 1 session at a time. How can I correct the problem?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Since last upgrade

Firefox only runs one session at a time, are you talking about not being able to open a 2nd window?
Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?

  • Cannot open more than one Firefox session

I am using Windows 7 on a PC. When I installed Firefox 3.6, I found that I could not open more than one session unless I deleted the process in Task Manager. When I reopened Firefox, it immediately said it had installed 6 plug-ins. It would then allow me to open a second Firefox session, but after this I could not open any more sessions. I do not have this problem with IE or Safari.
Why is it installing plug-ins without my asking for them?
Could the plug-in's be causing the problem of not allowing more than one session?
How can I have a clean Firefox program without plug-ins and one that will open any number of sessions like it used to be?

What happens when you right-click a link and use Open Link in New Window?

  • Cannot open more than one window with Firefox

I've been having this problem for a couple of weeks, now, and I've run out of ways to try and fix this.
One day, after starting my computer up, I opened Firefox. No big deal, everything looks fine, tabs are working, etc. Then, when I went to open a second window, nothing. The first window still works fine, I can open tab upon tab, but it just won't open any more windows.
As much as I'm a fan of the browser tabs, I still prefer to have them spread out over more than one window.
I've read through a ton of different troubleshooting walkthroughs and whatnot, reinstalled three or four times, restored settings, but nothing works.
Well, not entirely, I guess. Here's the part that I can't quite figure out. When I disable every single addon, Firefox works just fine. I've done the checking down the list, trying to single one out, but it's *any* addon. Even something as simple as a dictionary search ([https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/68/]) causes this to happen.
I've checked with an older computer with an older version of Firefox, and it still seems to work fine with addons enabled, so I'm wondering if this is an update issue?
Would reverting back to a previous version of Firefox solve this, and if so, where would I be able to find downloads for a previous version?
So, like I said, I'm at a bit of a loss here. Sort of at a crossroads for trying to figure out what to try next, so I'm hoping someone a bit more knowledgeable can help steer me in a direction.
Edit: I just noticed that the posting includes system information with my question. I should clarify that I'm posting this from an older computer with an older version of Firefox. On the computer that I'm having this issue with, I'm using the newest version of Firefox (3.6.8).

Some old posts indicate the following add-ons have caused the problem of not being able to open a new window in Firefox in the past. If you have any of them you might want to disable or uninstall them to see if that is causing your problem.<br />

You need to update your plug-ins. It is important to keep them updated due to continuing security fixes and improvements in those plug-ins:
    * Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 11.5 (you '''<u>may</u>''' need to update)
    * Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32

You are using an out-of-date version of Firefox. Unless you have a reason for using that old version, you might want to consider upgrading.
*The Firefox version series 3.0.x is no longer being supported or updated, even for security issues.
*The last version in the 3.0.x series was 3.0.19 which was released 03/15/2010.
*You are using version 3.0.13 which was released 07/31/2009.
Consider upgrading to the current version, Firefox 3.6.8. Firefox 3.6.9 is scheduled to be released in a few days and the new Firefox 4 will be released later this year or early next year.

  • Please help cannot open more than one window at a time.

Everything was working well but this morning I could not have more than one window (application or folder) open at a time.
As soon as I open one, the previously oppened one closes.
I tried restoring from Time Machine and also Lion altogether but this behaviour did not change.
I posted in the Imac forum as well but maybe this forum is more appropiate.
    Thank you.

Another possiblity is that "Single Application Mode" has been set.  This would be unusual as it normally takes a terminal command to set it.  You can check by downloading the program TinkerTool from this site:
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/0TinkerTool/download.php5
It's free and doesn't modify your system, just turns on or off the hidden options that are already there.  Run it and look in the Dock tab and see if this option is checked.  If so, uncheck it and click the relaunch dock button.

  • Cannot open more than one PDF at a time

Hi, when I open a PDF my laptop automatically closes any other PDF's open - I have uninstalled & reinstalled all Adobe products but still have the same issue - help!

What has changed (a few versions of Reader ago) is that instead of each PDF opening in a part of one window, Reader opens a separate window for each. (A lot of people don't like this, but it's the way Microsoft recommended at that time).
Now, each of these PDFs-in-a-window can fill the screen, or can be smaller. You can use Window > Tile for example, or resize so you have a bit of an overlap. You should also be able to choose between the different windows right in the task bar by holding down the mouse on the Adobe Reader icon.

  • Cannot open more than 25 images at a time

Ok... I've been one of those users who has been very happy with Bridge. I'm running version 2.1.1.9. I'm using it with Photoshop CS3. My workflow is I open 125 JPEGs, edit-save-close and then open 125 more etc. One of the recent updates seems to have broken Bridge. I can now only open ~25 images at a time. If I select more and hit enter I get the error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permission to access the item.
What could have happened? This was working fine.

Just for clarification, from Photoshop I can do File -> Open and select 300+ files and they open just fine. It only fails if I try to open them from within Bridge. Very frustrating.

  • ORA-31223: DBMS_LDAP: cannot open more than 63 LDAP server connections

I get this when I use the function wwv_flow_ldap.is_member
    which is a HTMLDB package.
I use this function on every page for authorisation but after a while i get this error.
Metalink says to close the unused connections, but unfortunately it doesn't say how to do this.
I tried asking the HTMLDB people how and why this function opens connections without closing them but before I end up hoping for a patch I'd like to know if there is a quick fix to close unused connections with a procedure....

You need a handle to the LDAP session to close the connection, so it really needs to be done by the entity that opened it.
If you have access to the LDAP session, then you could close it if you have some sort of "end of request cleanup processing routine". This is what the standard Portal code does. Since yours is a HTMLDB-specific issue, you may need a fix from them.

  • Cannot open more than 1 file without generating windows error

I am using Adobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 extended on Windows XPSP3.  While I can open and edit any single file in the program, if I try to open a second file a windows error report is generated and the Photoshop is closed.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application, turned off potentially conflicting services, removed scanner drivers etc. without resolving the problem.
Any suggestions what might be the root of the problem?
The machine has 4GB RAM and a very large (but single) hard drive.

    durrant_d wrote:
It's not limited to just Photoshop, but Elements 6 and Lightroom 2 but not Illustrator CS3.  Interesting that it will pull up the images in the pre-editor but only errors when actually entering the workspace.
This sounds like a memory problem that is tied to the OS since it occurs across different programs.  If the paging file has enough capacity then perhaps bad RAM?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
