Cannot open pdf documents in Safari

I use Yahoo Mail and cannot open pdf attachments (via Safari) like I used too.  Safari attempts to open but stalls.  I have the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader installed App.

Take the adobe stuff out of /Library/Internet Plug-ins.

cannot open PDF files in safari.  It tells me first character is invalid - I have deleted plug-ins and reinstalled the program.

    HI..
If you are using Adobe Reader ...
Try uninstalling the current copy of Adobe Reader first.
Best to use a utility to do this to make sure all the associated files are removed as well >  Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
    Then reinstall >  http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

  • I cannot open pdf documents after installing Reader XI

Hi I have just installed Adobe Reader Xl. I now cannot open any pdf document - the screen is blank and closes after about 10 seconds. When running the trouble-shooter it states there is a compatibility issue. I have re-installed, I have looked at my internet options settings but still cannot resolve the issue. Do you have any suggestions? I am running Windows 7 and Norton 360 Premier Edition software.  Regards Doug

Interesting that when I installed ReaderXI I wasn't asked to accept terms.
    Cheers

  • I cannot open PDF documents correctly. I get an error on the page that says there is an error on the document. Neither Adobe Acrobat or Reader work.

I cannot open pdf files that are maps correctly . Some of the data layers are missing. I get a warning message that there is an error in the document and I should contact the originator. I have both Adobe Acrobat and the free version of Reader but neither will open them. When I forward them to other clients, they cannot open them either but can open them from the original sender.

Open Tools/Options/Advanced/general/Config. editor, copy mail.server.default.fetch_by_chunks into the search box, double-click the preference to make its value false, OK, restart TB, and see if you still have problems with pdf attachments.
For messages that have already been received in IMAP accounts, you can force a re-download by selecting the Message Source (Ctrl-U), then try to open the attachment.

  • Cannot open PDF document in IE8

On a computer with Windows XP, IE8 and Reader XI     (11.0.3) we cannot open a document within Internet Explorer.  The "add-on" exists in the "run without confirmation" however it will not open the document.  I did note that in trying to open the "PDF of Reader XI Help" it did download the document, and listed the size of the document but it would not open it.
    Thank You Pat G

    Hi, T.
When you import a PDF into Photoshop to get some images placed inside the PDF, there's no need to rasterize the file. This is because the feature is a bit hidden in the dialogue screen of "import PDF". Look in the upper part of the dialogue and you'll see "Select: page". Go into that drop down and select instead "image" (the exact wording may vary as my PS is a Spanish one).
Then, you'll be offered all the image boxes inside the PDF. They'll be imported "as is", no resampling or rasterizing needed.
    Hope it helps

  • Cannot open pdf documents for about a month now.

a blank popup opens when I try to open pdf documents.

I had this problem, I checked my add-ons one by one as suggested and it was the Avast online security add-on slowing me down on Google. Disabled it and FF works ok.
No idea why the avast add-on would do that? Still using the full version of avast but not the add-on.

  • Cannot open PDF documents/files

I cannot open any PDF documents.  Had been able to before.  I am using the latest Mac OS.  Have now also down loaded the latest Adobe Reader.  Still no success.

When you save it with the menu or Safari toolbar the file it saves is CALLED a PDF file and might have the icon but it is always empty and useless. So always use the Adobe Reader toolbar. This should appear over the PDF page if you hover over the page. (Hover: move the mouse there and let it go). It looks like this. The save icon is the first one.

  • IPAD2 I can not open PDF documents in Safari.

Can any one help? The link to the document is through Salesforce.

Adobe Reader on iOS works differently than on the PC.  On the PC, it installs a browser plug-in that is used to render the PDF document in the web page (or open the PDF document in the Adobe Reader application).  On iOS, it simply installs the Adobe Reader app, but no browser plug-in.
Based on the information you've provided, it sounds like the Salesforce web site is trying to detect whether the browser plug-in is installed on iOS (which it never will be), and then prompting you to install Adobe Reader.  Instead, the web site should realize that you're browsing on an iPad using Safari, and just display the PDF in a new tab, or in the current tab.
Is there an alternate link on the Salesforce web page to download the PDF file instead of display it?  (The link may be much smaller, or offscreen requiring you to scroll right or left.)  A download link should actually do the correct thing and display the PDF in Safari once the file is downloaded.
Once you're viewing the PDF in Safari, a black translucent bar appears for about 3 seconds at the top of the tab that will have an "Open in <AppName>" button, or that button plus an "Open..." button (if you have multiple apps that can view PDF documents).  Tap one of those buttons to open the PDF document in another app.
If the black translucent bar disappears, just tap anywhere on the PDF document (other than a link) to bring it back.

  • Opening PDF documents in safari

When I try to open/download a pdf document, I gat a lego brick with a question mark on it. If I want to see the file I have to download it and view separately. This only happens on Safari for Windows, on al other browsers, including Safari for Mac OS X pdf files open without difficulty. I've tried all the settings/preferences, but must be missing something. Anyone encountered/overcome this?

Do you have adobe Reader installed?

  • Cannot open PDF files in Safari

Hello, I just got my ipad and instaled the latest Adobe reader. When in Safari, I click on pdf files and a small wheel in the doc I clicked on spins then nothing else happens. My wife has and ipad 2 and she is able to go to the same websites and open the same files. Any ideas?

Whether or not you have the Adobe Reader app installed shouldn't affect Safari opening PDFs. You could see if the following help :
Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it and see if the PDFs then open : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Cannot open pdf documents. used to work well. now not at all.

Click on document and returns warning message to download software. I do that and warning says cannot download software as it is already on this computer.

You need to do as Jerry suggests because after the upgrade you very likely still have the old version of Numbers on your Mac. The new Numbers 3.1 is in your main Applications folder. The old version is in a subfolder within Applications named iWork '09.  You can use both versions.  But you can't use the old version to open a document that has been created or edited in the new version (or in Numbers for iOS).

Double click the Reader app there and accept the agreement. You may then open PDFs in your browser.

  • Cannot Open PDF in Safari

    Can someone please help.
    I cannot open PDF files through Safari. I've read some of the other comments on the same/similar issue and I have tried those steps and have been unsuccessful. I still cannot view PDF files through Safari, in fact, the Preview doesn't even open. When it worked the preview icon would pop up in the tool bar at the bottom of my Mac Book, but it no longer does that. Here is what I've tried;
Upgrading my Adobe, even though I know you don't need it for Mac.
Removed Adobe from applications and deleted.
Went to Library and internet plug ins and there is nothing in that folder.
Went to internet preferences and un clicked enable plug ins.
Not quite sure what else to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

    Hi Roxana ..
Which Mac OS X do you have installed and which version of Safari ??
Upgrading my Adobe, even though I know you don't need it for Mac.
You do if you want to use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDF files.
Went to Library and internet plug ins and there is nothing in that folder.
There are two libraries. One is root  /Library
The other denotes your Home folder   ~/Library  (the Tilde character represents your Home folder)
    Go to  /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
If you see the Adobe PDF browser plugin or just PDF Browser plugin, move that to the Trash. Quit then relaunch Safari. Try a PDF file.
